Meet Alpine she is from a high kill shelter in San Antonio. She was left there as a puppy with her 5 littermates and a bad case of mange. Because of her hairloss everyone who came to the shelter to adopt a puppy looked right over her little family. Thankfully the team at CARE was able to pull the family from the shelter just in time. Alpine is now in a foster home having the time of her life. She has been having tons of fun with the other dogs in the foster home and they definitley emjoy a good romp in the yard. Meet Jake. This fella has quite the story. We were told Jake spent most of his life with a family. Sadly his owner passed away and Jake was given up at an estate sale. Somehow after being passed around to different owners Jake found himself in the worst position he had ever been in. He was unwanted and living with a terrible person. Jake's "owner" took him to a vet's office to be put down because Jake is old he no longer wanted him. We find it heartbreaking that this is something that vets here encounter because to many people dogs are just things. We could go on and on about how terrible humans were to Jake but this story isn't about the people who failed him, its about Jake getting another chance at a family. Thankfully someone at the vets office where he was taken to be euthanized pleaded with the owner to surrender Jake to them instead of ending his life. That is when CARE was called. After Jake saw our vet we learned that he is about 10 years old, healthy and spry! Age is not a disease and it was no reason to end this happy pups life. Jake is now in a foster home where he happily follows the humans around and interacts with the other dogs. We considered giving him a new name for his new start to life but his foster shared that as she was driving to pick him up the song "Feed Jake" came on her radio. As the song says Jake is a good boy, he's just looking for someone to be a best friend to! Meet Kenzie! She is about 3 years old and weighs about 10lbs. She is listed as a Terrier blend but we think she may have soem Corgi in the mix. She wound up at the city shelter as part of a hoarding case. She was with 10 other dogs all very neglected. Majority of the dogs from that group have rebounded very quickly for the most part. They are loving and gentle and show no signs of any lasting issues. Kinzie started out a bit shy but once she knew she was safe she opened up and showed us how friendly she really is. Her foster tells us that she is very low key and gentle. She would love to find herself a patient home that is willing to take the time to make her feel safe and loves. Her 4 pups found homes very quickly leaving Mooney here at CARE waiting for her turn. We all have grown very fond of this sweet little mom and cant wait to find her a home of her own. Meet Ralphie, The cutest fella around. Ralphie is almost 3 months old and we believe he is a Border Collie blend. This tiny little guy only weighs aboiut 6lbs. Ralphie came to CARE from the city shelter where he was dumped at just a few weeks old. It wasn't the easiest start but now Ralphie's life has taken a big change. He is currently getting spoiled in a foster home and has the CARE team all on his side helping him find a loving forever home! Meet Sarah Jessica Barker, SJB for short. She came to CARE from the city shelter with her little family of 5. SJB has been in a foster home with us since leaving the shelter and we have really enjoyed getting to learn more about her. She is super friendly and playful but also pretty lowkey for the most part. She does very well with other dogs of all sizes and so far has been very uninterested in the cats. Her foster mom tells us that she has progressed very well with potty and leash training . She thinks SJB would do best in a home with a furry playmate and of course a very loving family! Meet Saylor! Saylor is about a year old, from her behaviour we can tell she probably didn't get a lot of attention in her first year of life. She came to us from the city shelter. A CARE team member was at the shelter and said Saylor's eyes were pleading for love and she couldn't leave her behind. Since leaving the shelter Saylor has welcomed every ounce of attention and affection that she has been given. She is a bit of a "low rider" with a longer body and shorter legs, she weighs about 15lbs. She would love to find a home with a canine friend in it to show her the ropes. Say Hello to Webster! This 1 year old Terrier looks like a mini Irish Wolfhound if that were a thing! He is about 14lbs though so no where near the size of a wolfhound. Webster is very friendly, playful and active. He has long legs and can jump very high to check out whats over the fence or whats cooking in the kitchen. His foster mom tells us that he is quite the agility star. He is the type of pup that wants to be included in all activities and go everywhere with his human. He would love to find an active adopter who is looking for a pup to join in on daily walks or hikes. Say hello to Zack! This adorable little fella is about 14lbs and 2 years old. We think he is a Cairn/Maltese blend. Zack was scooped up with 10 other dogs in very bad condition and dumped at the city shelter. It was clear this who crew had been very neglected so we got to work right away changing that for him. Despite his past we are learning that Zack has a very friendly loving temperament. He gets along great with others and loves spending time with all his buddies in his foster home. His foster mom tells us that he does need regualr brushing but he is pretty low shed. He also has the cutest underbite we have ever seen! Meet Zelda, this wire hair Terrier blend is about a year old and weighs around 15lbs. She came to CARE from the city shelter and has been in a foster home for a few weeks now. We can tell that Zelda hasnt been socialized very much. She can be a bit timid at first and is hoping to find a patient adopter with a quiet home and a lot of love to give. Zelda would do very well with another dog in the house. She is playful and really enjoys learning from other dogs. Zelda's foster tells us she thinks that Zelda would do best in a home with a secure yard for her to run and play in.
