Name: Anikan Location: Rotterdam, NY Breed: Mixed Breed Approximate Age: 3.5 years old Sex: Male Weight: 69 lbs Medical History: Anikan is up to date on shots and microchipped. 🐶Other Dogs: No ❌ small dogs and small animals; Yes ✅ dogs of his size or larger. 😽Cats: No ❌ 🏠House-trained: Yes ✅ ⭐️ Crate-trained: Yes ✅ 👫Kids: Yes ✅ Foster Comments: Anikan is in need his furever home 🏡 he’s looking for a place with kids as he loves to pal around with them, especially my 1yr old. Anikan’s place should NOT have any cats 🐈 or birds 🦜 or small dogs 🐶 but he loves to have a buddy his size (over 50lbs) to romp around with. Anikan is kennel trained and knows basic commands, but does still need to learn pulling while on his leash is NOT acceptable. This young stud muffin absolutely loves the outdoors and being snuggled up by your feet or lounging on the couch 🛋 with ya! ACC volunteer writes: Anikan is an endearing chap who has already made a number of friends at the care center. He has a gentle demeanor, enjoys company and treats, listens to commands and owns an outgoing personality. He wonders why some dogs bark at him and I think that if he was a human, I would see him shaking his head. Anikan is wise! He is a good walker, does is business as soon as we are out of the building and is fine sharing the street with other pooches, bikes and cars. Spending time with Anikan is relaxing as he is such an easy going four-legged friend, ready to please and share his life with you. He needs TLC, a new suit, a loving home to call his own and a family to cherish and belong to. To learn more about Anikan, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or fill out our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Follow Chloe’s Instagram @whatischloesaying for day-to-day updates! 5 years young 40 lbs Philadelphia, PA Darling Chloe is a former stray from Manhattan, NYC. She came into the shelter fearful and reactive, and is now working on living her best life! Currently, in a Foster/training program, Chloe has been able to work on her fear of strangers as well as her leash manners. She has been enjoying the Philadelphia lifestyle but is looking for a home that is a little calmer and outside of the city. Chloe is known to display aggression to strangers. Once she picks her *person*, Chloe will defend them from others entering the home, approaching her on walks, etc. Chloe needs to wear a muzzle when outside and meeting new people for this reason. Strict, structured, force-free, and reward-based training is of the utmost importance. Her adopter must be committed to lifelong training. Chloe must also be in a home without children. Her aggression can be triggered by sudden noises and movements. However, we are open to considering adopting Chloe to a home with a gentle, playful, and well-adjusted male dog. She has had excellent dog meets with large breed males. (Videos available) From foster: “Chloe is my go-to cuddle buddy. I have severe panic disorder, and Chloe will jump on my lap and comfort me when I am having an attack. She also loves sleeping next to me like a ‘person’”. Chloe is house-trained and highly food motivated. She is able to complete a loose-leash walk in Philadelphia with proper guidance and control. She loves doing tricks, especially for peanut butter. Chloe has mild separation anxiety, but can be left alone in the crate for a few hours at a time. She is currently using trazodone and Prozac to help her anxiety, and the adopter must be committed to continuing her medication and working closely with a vet. “Whoever has the room in their heart for Miss Chloe is the luckiest person in the world. She is my ride-or-die, and she deserves the whole world. She’s nearly a perfect dog, and once she conquers her fear of strangers, she’s going to be the happiest little pup on earth.” Chloe is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet this special pup, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application to get the process started. https://www.amsterdog.org/application Thank you for caring about a pet in need! show less

Darlin’ - a term of endearment….so deserved for this sweet 60 lb, 8 year old girl. Surrendered to our care when her person lost their home, Darlin' lost everything too – her person, her home, her safety. She’s an amazing dog who is not only housetrained, she heads to the edge of the sidewalk to take care of her business. She’s friendly to all people, loves kids, loves baths (and will jump into the tub on her own), sleeps on her own bed but will sometimes sneak onto her person’s bed in the middle of the night, loves to jump and give kisses, loves belly rubs, and knows her basic commands. She is also well-behaved when left home alone while her foster mom is at work. She is not a fan of other dogs or cats so she needs to be an only pet. She does pull on the leash moderately and would benefit from leash training or from home with a fenced yard. "Darlin’ is a gorgeous, sweet, playful, snuggly, takes treats gently, has a great smile and gorgeous eyes, is beautifully groomed, loves playing with her plush toys, and poses for photos like a pro,” says her foster mom. “Seriously, if you are still reading this and not rushing over to meet her, you are missing out on a gem. But don’t just take my word for it...see for yourself." In fact, the only reason Darlin’s foster mom is giving her up is because she works multiple jobs and is out of the home for many hours at a time. She would love to see Darlin’ have a family where she gets all the attention she deserves and more physical activity than she can provide. Darlin is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. This happy, healthy, darling girl Darlin’ is ready to meet you! To learn more about Darlin', please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or fill out our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Name: Ejay Location: Brooklyn, NY Breed: Mixed Breed Approximate Age: 6 years young Sex: Male Weight: 57 lbs Medical History: Ejay is neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped. Ejay has a skin condition. 🐶Other Dogs: No ❌ (ok with resident dogs in the home) 😽Cats: No ❌ 🏠House-trained: Yes ✅ ⭐️ Crate-trained: Yes ✅ 👫Kids: Yes ✅ If you would like to foster or adopt Ejay, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 or info@amsterdog.org. To get the process started, please fill out our online application. Link to our Application: https://www.amsterdog.org/application Owner’s comments: Ejay is not a fan of other animals initially but once he gets used to them, he is ok with them. He is unfriendly towards any animals near the property that he does not know. Ejay is good kids and people in the home but takes a little bit to get used to outsiders and will bark if anyone enters the home. He would be perfect in a quiet home with a dedicated owner who could work with him on his behavioral issues. He is crate and house trained. Ejay has allergies that require either a monthly shot or daily oral medication along with medicated baths. The allergies cause redness of the skin along with itchiness and once the shot wears off, a slight odor indicating he needs his next dose will peak through. He is very respectful and polite to us, and has a very strong trust with me. When he feels uneasy he clings to me for some balance to ensure everything is okay. We would be willing to help with some of the expense of his allergy medications if needed. They arent that expensive, but we know it’s tough right now, and we just want him to have what he needs. show less

Meet JellyBean 3 years old 65 lbs West Haven, CT At the shelter in New York City where JellyBean arrived as a stray, the volunteers said, "JellyBean takes his time making new friends but once the key to his heart - food - is found, he will warm up quickly. He needs a special person who will understand that he has a guarded heart and will make friends at his own pace. Once he knows you, he will show off his good side, rolling around on the floor and happily dancing by tapping his front feet. A quiet home where he will have the space and time to do this would be ideal for him. Once he gets to know his people, he will be a loyal friend.” Based on what we've learned about him, we suspect he's been mistreated in the past and, understandably, it takes him some time to warm up to his person (or people) and begin to trust them. With his current foster mom, he's really begun to blossom in her care. "Jellybean is very special," she says. "He promotes himself as a tough guy, but far from it - he's truly a lover! JellyBean is a happy soul, just scared someone is going to hurt him which is completely normal. Although he's nervous and confused, he's feeling more confident every day. He has an amazing sense of character, loves to explore and learn. He's pulling through in his own time. He's come a long way since he first arrived and I believe in him. He's finally beginning to learn to love life." His foster mom also reports that JellyBean loves his toys, is well-mannered with food, and takes treats nicely. He is well behaved/trained, low-key, and knows his basic commands. He walks well on the leash; doesn't attempt to bother anyone and is non-reactive (indifferent) to other dogs that he passes by - he looks to his trusted person for reassurance and guidance. Since loud noises and sudden movements make JellyBean nervous, and knowing he is very protective of "his person", he will be best set up to succeed in an experienced, adult-only, single-pet home that is calm and low-key where he can continue gaining confidence and building his newfound trust of humans. "JellyBean's definitely been hurt to the soul," says his foster mom. "He just wants to fit in and he's slowly starting to believe that no one will ever hurt him again. Now, he's just waiting for that family that wants to give him a permanent home and love him forever!" If JellyBean's story is one that you can relate to and you feel you are the special, patient, understanding person (or people) that he needs, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. JellyBean is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Thank you for caring about a pet in need! show less

It’s sad that “I will love you forever” at 8wks ended up meaning, I will love you until life gets tough, you do something wrong, or until I get old. Then, I will dump you in a big, scary, loud shelter in the city. And, I will sign you over to be euthanized, as supposedly, I am old, people aggressive, and animal aggressive. That’s Justice’s story. Her family welcomed her into their home at 8wks and then dropped her off to die at 5-6yrs old. Now, we don’t know the whole story, but we will tell you that it is apparent that Justice was not socialized outside the yard or home. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t understand guardian breeds. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t know they were adding a highly intelligent, working dog to the family and that this higher energy mastiff breed needed exercise, socialization, and training. Or maybe she was owned by someone who started off training and socializing her and then had tragedy strike and everything took the back seat. Whatever it may be, Justice did NOT deserve to die. CCR could not allow that to happen. We brought Justice to safety and now that we have learned more about her, we know that she needs an experienced home WITHOUT small dogs or cats. Here’s a little more about Justice: Justice is an active 5-6 year old Cane Corso who was surrendered to a Philadelphia city shelter back in February, by the family who added her to their family 5-6yrs prior. AmsterDog and CCR came together to save Justice hours before she was “to be destroyed”. She is currently being fostered by a fantastic and very experienced CCR foster family in Delaware. However, there’s one major issue…. Justice likes the cats too much. Remember that love for chasing the tennis ball I mentioned? Well, that stems from Justice’s incredible working drive, otherwise known as her “prey drive”. We REALLY need to get Justice into a foster to adopt situation in which she is ideally, the only dog. And, definitely NO cats or small dogs. Justice has no known history with children, so please don’t apply if you have children under 12 who live in your home or visit your home. Justice enjoys multiple walks a day, averaging about 3 miles. This girl has ENERGY and she can play fetch until her humans are more than worn out. Once she gets to know you, Justice is very loving and seeks out attention from men and women. Currently, she is crazy about her foster Dad… absolutely crazy about him! Justice is eager to please and knows many commands. She is getting better and better on leash, as she is as strong as an ox! **PLEASE SHARE JUSTICE’S STORY AND HELP US FIND THE PERFECT PERSON TO APPLY TO FOSTER OR ADOPT JUSTICE** show less

PRINCESS LIMA BEAN - 7 years old, 52 lbs, Manhattan Let's get to know each other a bit more... A volunteer writes: Princess Lima Bean is a delicate flower, soft and affectionate and longing for someone to take her under their wing and make her feel safe. She's shy at first, but very much wants to be friends, and with a 'slow and low' approach, is happy to come closer for petting and get dressed in a bandanna for our photo shoot. No camera can truly capture her aristocratic beauty, and she's not a fan of posing. Fortunately, my fun-loving friend Simba is playing in the pen next-door. The two are soon enraptured with each other. Princess hops onto the bench and gazes longingly through the fence, whining a little at her beau who jumps and grins hello back at her, then throws in a few reciprocal whines of his own. Even after he leaves the yard, her big brown eyes keep watch on the door, a perfectly loyal Juliet wondering wherefore art her Romeo. I'm a poor substitute but try to soften the loss with some gentle snuggles, and Princess sweetly rewards me with fluttering little cheek kisses. Out in the street she walks nicely on leash, almost immediately takes care of business, and passes yappy small dogs with ease. When a familiar staff member approaches, she greets them with tiny happy tail wags. Princess is quietly charming, easy to handle and so easy to love. With time and TLC from a caring family, she's going to blossom into the most wonderful pet. Lima Bean Videos: https://youtu.be/_DMbKAaOdm0 https://youtu.be/AFAsoS-ZLHo show less

Meet Mocha 6 years old 40 lbs Brooklyn, NY At the New York City shelter where Mocha arrived, a volunteer called her "half gremlin, half piglet, and 100% sweetheart"! It's all smiles and fun with Mocha, an ever so slightly chunky low-riding lady. She is energetic but easy to walk on a leash, and oh, does she love her snacks. So much that she oinks and grunts like a sweet little pig in anticipation of them. She is a well-cared for, super sweet girl who will snuggle her way into your heart with her soft brownish-black bat ears and bubbly personality. While we don't know Mocha's full history, we do know that her former owner became ill and Mocha was surrendered suddenly. She took the transition hard and attached herself very quickly to her foster mom, showing us how much love she has to give and how ready she is to invest in her new home. Despite her painful mid-life transition, she finds true zen in testing her head in your lap or snuggle up In your arms like the loyal velcro dog she is. Affectionate doesn't even begin to cover how much Mocha loves affection or the extent of her love for people. Every person we pass on the street gets a friendly look and strangers are met with joy. Mocha loves playing ball, chewing bones, doing her once-daily zoomies, and following you room to room wagging her tail. She knows basic commands and is sharp as a tack so we think she would benefit from even more advanced training. She has no resource guarding, is very well-mannered with food, and takes treats nicely. Mocha is friendly with other dogs, seems to favor males but can be selective, and plays rough, so she will need a meet and greet with a future doggie housemate. Mocha can be anxious when left alone and would do best in an active home with loving company. She is also heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all shots and vet visits. If you're looking to adopt the world's #1 most cuddly dog, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application. Name: Shelly Breed: Mixed Breed Age: 4 years old Weight: 55 lbs Location: Staten Island, NY HOUSE-TRAINED: YES CRATE-TRAINED: YES HEALTH: VACCINATIONS UP TO DATE, SPAYED, MICROCHIPPED PREFERS A HOME WITHOUT: CATS, DOGS, YOUNG CHILDREN Shelly is a captivating 4-year old, 55 lb. girl who is creamy white with brown speckles on her ears, about 55 pounds, with an endearing face, is very smart, eager to please for a food treat, and would love to be your furever pup! This beauty was taken into the shelter as a stray and did not seem to even understand what a dog bed was, how to walk on a leash, or people who wanted to pet her. New to the park experience, Shelly was fearful of tree trunks and insects that fly and buzz. Now that she’s been in foster for a while, she leaps and prances through the park, enchanted by sights and sounds and sweet-smelling flowers. With time and positive behavior training, Shelly is now house trained, knows her basic commands, and is following leash instructions like come close, look (at my eyes), find it (she searches for the treat tossed on the ground), and other safety tricks to keep her mind on her handler. She responds to the safety command of “here, here!” when off leash, expecting a treat of real meat. She is still working on “stay”, but she understands and follows “wait.” She is also quiet and well-behaved in the home. Since Shelly is very food motivated and eager to eat her meals, she gets fed from food dispensers requiring work or smarts to retrieve the food (puzzle bowls/toys, snuffle mats, etc.). Shelly could be the perfect jogging partner as she has a lot of energy to expend and loves to chase balls. In fact, Shelly’s foster mom thinks she could be part of a family with tweens-teens to be pet by and chase balls and run around with, or adopted by active adults who like to walk or jog in the park. Prior to being spayed, Shelly was downright unfriendly toward other dogs, male or female. With positive behavior training, she no longer readily lunges at them, but instead “looks” at her handler for a treat when she sees or hears another dog. However, Shelly should be your one-and only pet, since she is unpredictable toward other dogs and is also very reactive toward small running animals like cats and squirrels. Shelly may try to chase a small animal she sees from a car window, and if a backyard is part of her furever home, it must be securely fenced in. “Shelly is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves, loves, loves to be petted by people, even those she meets on walks,” says her foster mom. “And people often remark on how beautiful she is.” Shelly is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Skye Terrier Mix 3 y/o Female 35 lbs Philadelphia, PA HOUSE-TRAINED: YES CRATE-TRAINED: YES HEALTH: VACCINATIONS UP TO DATE PREFERS A HOME WITHOUT: CATS, DOGS, KIDS Skye is a little 3 y/o, 35 lb. female terrier mix that was saved from euthanasia in Philadelphia PA. This little girl is very sweet and super affectionate, knows her basic commands, is house trained, and crate trained. She loves cuddling, playing with her Kong and other chew toys, and peanut butter! *But* she also becomes very protective of her “person” after she settles in and becomes comfortable and has shown to lunge at and nip/bite others as a result. She is also highly reactive to other animals so she must go to a single-pet home, with no children, and a very experienced owner willing to work with her and provide the behavior training and modification she needs. We know there is someone out there who will see this sweet little girl as the diamond in the rough that she is and show her she need not fear being abandoned ever again. Due to Covid, she was not spayed at the shelter and may also need to have a potential hernia repair done at the same time (according to the shelter vet exam).
