This very good boy was initially shy and a bit scared when he first arrived but he`s come out of his shell so much! Alpha is now confident and goofy and he LOVES adventure! Whether it be going on a hike at McKinney Falls State Park, or going swimming, or even just hopping in the car for some sightseeing – Alfalfa is your guy!Alfafa is not only curious and adventurous, he is also a smarty pants! He knows several commands (sit, down, and shake), and we`re pretty sure he`d love to learn a few more. Oh, and he is somewhat of a diva… that’s right, Alfafa loves it when you brush his hair. He’ll thank you by wagging his bushy tail and maybe even giving you a kiss or two!As a larger, black dog, Alfafa is often overlooked here. When you walk past his kennel, he`ll bark and jump, but all he`s trying to say is `pick me!`. And he doesn`t understand why nobody ever does pick him :( Alpha just needs someone to give him a chance, which is why we`re hoping to find him a foster home, so they can see the amazing dog he is without all the stress of being at the shelter. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Alfafa will go home with everything you need, including a crate, harness, goodie bag, a training voucher, and all the support you need. Buddy is the epitome of resilience. After his owner died and nobody in the family could care for him, he lost the only home he ever knew and was surrendered to the shelter. Buddy was understandably afraid those first few days…. he would shake and cower and we were pretty worried about him. But then Buddy decided this wasn`t such a bad place after all and we all finally got to meet the real Buddy! The confident, goofy, sweet Buddy. The very chatty Buddy! That`s right… Buddy has all the gossip and he wants to tell you all about it. Oh, you`re looking for a housetrained dog? Check! One who walks nicely on a leash? Check! You`re also looking for a dog who likes to go on hikes and explore? Check! And you want a dog who is sweet and happy even after all he`s been through? Check! Buddy lived with a poodle in his last home, and we think with proper and slow intros, he could live with another dog again. More than anything, though, Buddy is looking for a human to come scoop him up and remind him that it`s all gonna be okay. He`ll return the kindness with sweet Buddy kisses. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Buddy goes home with a harness, training voucher, and all the support and guidance you need. If you are looking for a dog with some east coast swagger, Koopa is your guy. Originally from Boston, Koopa’s name is actually Cooper, but we all thought he was saying Koopa. So, Koopa it is! Sometimes he talks about drinking water from the bubblah, seeing the B`s play at the Gahden, and eating grindahs and half moons. We don’t always understand what Koopa is saying, but he sure is cute when he’s saying it! The first words that come to mind when thinking of this boy are adorable, sensitive, and oh-so-awkwahd. When Koopa first arrived at the shelter he was pretty shy and didn`t exactly know what to do with people or toys… even how to walk on a leash. He`s really blossomed with the help of his friends and grown into a playful, engaging, silly, and affectionate sweethaht.Koopa would do best in a home with someone willing to go a bit slowly with him and help him adjust to new experiences. He`ll also need help with mild reactivity to other dogs but he`s gone to pahks around town and had lots of fun… fuh days! With summer here, we are probably gonna get Koopa a wiffle, make sure the ice box is stocked with tonic, and maybe even go down the Cape. Koopa is ready to book it outta here so let us know if you’d like to meet this chahming kid! It`ll be wicked fun! Email us at orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more about Koopa. show less

Penelope. Penelope Cruz. Sweet P! These are all names that friends fondly call this sensitive and loving senior gal. Penelope is ready to leave her past behind her and is looking forward to a future filled with lots of love… and belly rubs! She is described by the people who know her best as affectionate, silly, and loyal. As an… ahem, distinguished lady, Penelope has experience in a home, and knows a thing or two about couch snuggling, potty breaks, and zoomies in a yard. Penelope would be more than glad to snuggle up and watch a movie with you, or take a leisurely stroll in the neighborhood in the cool mornings or evenings. When she feels happy and safe, Penelope makes the cutest little grunt. Oink oink! She can sometimes be particular about new people but it all comes from a past that she had no control over. As an outside dog, Penelope felt the need to protect her home and family from strangers. Her ideal home would be low traffic, and slow proper intros when there are visitors. She does have the potential to live with another calm, respectful, low-medium energy dog. We would love to introduce you to Penelope if you think she sounds like the dog for you!Email orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more! She`s available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means you`ll have two weeks to get to know each other before sealing the deal! Come to the Austin Animal Center at 7201 Levander Loop during open hours (11am-7pm) to meet her! show less

You know those folks who are always bright and happy, no matter the circumstances? This is true for Putter, who after nearly a year in and out of the shelter system is ready to have a family of her own to love! This always-happy gal has lived wonderfully in a home before, but was brought to the shelter due to changes in her owners` living situations. However, they let us know that here`s what you`ll get when you take Putter home: belly rubs, cuddles, playtime with stuffed toys, basic commands, constant tail wags, gratitude and an always-smiling face! Check out her video below for proof. She is VERY crate-trained and LOVES people. She treats everyone like an old friend. She is whip smart and will thrive with a family interested in working with her on new commands and focus games. Putter`s last foster provider shared that she is `one of the friendliest and confident dogs I have met. Thinks she is a lap dog, sniffs absolutely everything, clumsy goofball at times, & loves being held and loved. She sleeps through the night and likes to be close to her human! I would feed her, give her space, then immediately she would attempt to give me a `hug` and would roll near my side. Speaking of rolling, falling off the couch was a daily occurrence. This is the sweetest, most loving, and intuitive dog I have ever met!`CONTACT her Champion Sara at 312-493-0390 or sara@friendsofaac.org. Putter is available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means we`ll have two weeks to get to know each other. Fun fact: Putter is also a cover girl, and made her modeling debut in a shelter calendar this year! show less

Roger arrived in June with severe and aging wounds, badly infected, with a matching high fever. 3 rounds of surgery were required to repair the wounds to his face, his head, his chest, his front legs. His wounds are now healed and it’s time now to focus on his heart, soul and spirit. We hesitate to assume what happened to him. He would tell his stories,,if only he could. He’s just 37 lbs, petite. And he’s heartworm positive but the shelter will supply a free voucher for his treatment through Emancipet. We look for a home to let him decompress and gradually over time see how he fares with safe interactions near other animals. Animals can be so forgiving. But we’ll never know until someone comes forward to help him on this journey. Roger is ready for adoption and is also approved to be released for foster.Always check the location in his link to determine if he is still onsite or has moved to a foster home.Adopters and pre-approved fosters may simply arrive onsite to the shelter between 11-7pm daily. If you are a new to fostering with AAC please complete the online application http://www.austintexas.gov/fosterpetsand when onsite request Roger as an emergency foster for the Classics program. Please note due to area construction it is best to use the Bolm Rd exit from 183 to reach 7201 Levander Loop as you can not enter Levander Loop currently from Airport Blvd (you can exit though).Inquiries can also be made to his shelter advocates at caring@classiccanines.orgOr message us at our FB page https://www.facebook.com/ClassicCaninesATX/Make a difference in a senior shelter dog`s life today by extending a home, a hand, a heart. show less

Meet Scout! This handsome fella is looking for a special adopter who can help him be the best dog he can be. From his friends at Orange Dot Crew: `We just love this quirky dude! And it`s important to know that he is indeed quirky. While going through heartworm treatment as a young’in, his family did not touch him because they were worried it might excite him too much. We know it is important to do your best to keep your dog calm during heartworm treatment. However, not being touched, while also being confined for so long during a crucial time in his young life, made Scout wary of being touched by people he didn’t know well. Scout’s trust must now understandably be earned. But if you are patient and willing to go at his pace, he will open up and show you what a loving boy he is! While it can be disappointing to not be able to touch him as much as we’d like, that’s his preference and we respect his boundaries. It’s important to go slowly and show him that we are his friends! Scout`s favorite thing to do is lie in the kiddie pool. He is not a fan of big swimming pools because he can`t feel the bottom! But give this boy a kiddie pool, and you have one very happy (and wet!!) pup.Scout is as smart as he is handsome! He knows several commands (sit, down, shake, stay) and we have no doubt he can learn even more if you want to work with him. Please email the Orange Dot Crew at orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more about him! show less
