About Jacko

Here's Jacko! A 7ish-years, 10-pound male chihuahua mix. He is low-key and quiet and his hobbies mainly include napping. Jacko is healthy and house-trained and also loves going on walks. He loves people and hanging out but gets a little barky on leash walks near other dogs. He takes a bit of time to warm up to you, but he is a good little guy! We are still learning about him, and are unsure about cats or kids but stay tuned! He was a real charmer at his recent photo shoot with @photosforfostersnyc. Jacko is up to date on shots, microchipped, and neutered. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Bobbie is 2ish-years, 10-pounds mix (maybe schnauzer/terrier?) surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter now in our care. He's a little nervous and takes a bit of time to warm up to people - but once he does he’s fiercely loyal and protective. Outside, Bobbie is all business and considers it his solemn duty to lead you back home for some zoomies around the house, a pit stop at the pee pad, and then directly into a warm lap or a cozy blanket. This pint-sized sherpa can seem aggressive to strangers, so his pawrents need to be prepared to calm his territorial tendencies. When Bobbie is out with his dog friends, he prefers to keep his distance and appreciates when they keep theirs. He is a loveable scruffy little guy though! Vaccinated for bordatella, dhpp, rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Buttercup is a beautiful bashful 3 year old female , Papillon mix from an LA shelter. She's 6.9 pounds, white and apricot color, and reported to be Gentle quiet  and good with kids and cats.  She loves to be held and petted or get belly rubs.   She lounges a lot and she's is a great companion to chill and watch YouTube videos with the kids or a Sunday sit back all day kinda gal.   Since coming to NYC she's been less than excited to go for walks outside, but she's getting the hang of it and using wee wee pads for now.  Her foster knows she is happy because her tail is always wagging.  She falls asleep in the bed with her teen-age human foster brother and in the middle of the night she walks to her own bed. Buttercup is Spayed and microchipped and had a recent dental. She's UTD on shots.   Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Sweet Gordo was rescued from a hoarder's house. About 11 year old mix breed that weighs 23.6 lbs. He has early cataracts in both eyes so maybe his hesitation to walk around is due to some vision impairment although vet thinks he can see well enough to get around.  He was really scared when he first came in to us but he's come out of his shell and is so so gentle.  You can do anything to him he doesn't mind but he's still cautious.  He has a heart murmur.  He is not neutered. His teeth have some plaque but not terrible. He also has mild arthritis in his hip joints.   We'd love to find him a patient forever home, but we would consider foster to adopt. He does need a new foster who can give him eyed drops every 4 to 6 hours.  This is TRULY a rescue dog! Judge is 2ish-year old, 13-pounds male miniature pinscher mix. He is a happy, playful little guy who is also equally sweet and affectionate! Judge is great with other dogs (especially the resident frenchie in the photo) sometimes he gets a little mouthy and excited when he plays - but not at all aggressive. He has medium to high energy and walks pretty well, but could use some reinforcement on leash skills. This gorgeous boy is house-trained and sleeps perfectly contently in a crate all night. He really enjoys long walks with his humans and foster fur-brother. Look at those ears! Because Judge is very active, we're looking to place him in a home with another dog. Received rabies, bordetella and dhpp vaccines. Neutered and micro-chipped. Little Man is a 6 year old, 17 pound male chihuahua mix who arrived from Tijuana in July. He came into rescue when his military owner had to move away. Little Man is a very special all-around great and sweet dog! A couple weeks after he arrived he was sadly diagnosed with a heart condition and he is looking for a special friend who is around a lot and can follow his medication schedule and really pamper him with love. Full health disclosure - the specialist we took him to gave him up to a year to live, but we are very hopeful after seeing him really blossoming in his foster home after he got started on the medications two months ago. On his last appointment he had improved so much that he can wait 3 months for his next follow-up with the cardiologist.  Little Man is very calm and gentle and spends most of the day sleeping. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you around like a shadow. He likes to snuggle up next to you, but is also independent enough that he will retreat to his bed and sleep through the night in his own space. Because of his condition, he needs to stay low activity - he's happy going for short walks around the block on his own pace. He's very mellow and doesn't really bark, though when his person returns home, he will run laps around the apartment, wagging his tail like crazy while making happy squeaky sounds! He is a funny little one, and will also have a few spikes of energy throughout the day where he loves to play fetch with his toys! He can howl and cry a bit when his favorite people leave him alone for too long - he would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home! He's at his happiest when he is napping the day away in close proximity to his people. He walks great on a leash and is calm around other dogs, and does well with cats also. He's a smart one who learns easily, and is very food motivated! He's pee pad trained within a small area (such as a playpen.) Some of the heart medications he is on are diuretics which means he drinks a lot of water and needs the bathroom frequently. In his foster home, he goes to the backyard door to signal that he needs to pee (about every 2 hours when he is awake.) Medication details: Currently, Little Man is prescribed 4 different heart medications. 3 of them needs to be given twice a day (every 12 hours). 1 of them needs to be given three times a day (every 8 hours).  Vaccinated for dhpp and rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Merlin is 3ish-years, 7-pounds (needs to gain a few) male stray from the Brooklyn animal shelter. This little muskrat dog is a scruffy ball or fur, eyes, ears and bones - he has a lot of 'getting healthy' to do. Merlin (formerly Malbec but that doesn't suit him) is underweight now eating well since he is safely in foster care. He's currently being treated for some missing hair spots but it doesn't stop his charm! Merlin is SUCH A GOOD BOY and he's pretty much housebroken. He loves to go on walks and took his first bath like a champ. He also gets along just fine with his resident dog and cat siblings. An adult only home, or home with older children, is needed for Merlin - he needs a bit of time to trust you and wouldn't tolerate young children grabbing for him right away. But, once he gets to know you, he’s a total snugglebug and insists on being on your lap or pressed up against you. Adopt his goofball muppet baby! Vaccinated for bordatella, dhpp, rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Oreo is 3ish-years, 15-pounds of cookie sweetness! This male terrier (and we think affenpinscher?) mix is such a good boy we cannot believe he was found as a stray! Oreo is such a stunning grey-haired boy! He is very easy-going, eager to please, and with such a regal trot. Oreo listens (not yet to his name) and responds very well to humans. This salt & pepper stud is happy as a clam lounging on the couch next to you - he hasn't quite understood yet that the squeaky banana is a toy - but does love carrying it around. Oreo walks surprisingly well on a leash and is housebroken and spends his days quietly hanging out on the couch while his people work. He needs a bit of encouragement with meals and treats, but with lots of pets and snuggles he quickly gains confidence and comfort. And, Oreo Cookie sleeps in his crate all night without a peep! Such an adorable fluffy scruffy boy available for adoption - check out his before and after haircut photos! Vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and 1 out of 2 rounds of dhpp (needs 2nd round). Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Sadie is 11 ish-months, 25-pounds female dachshund/lab mix. This sweet girl is so happy and gentle - she was found as a stray in Texas before coming into our care. She has mastered going potty outside but is still learning the concept of leash-walking as she's quite strong and pulls hard.  Sadie is pretty smart (the lab part of her) and learned 'sit' pretty quickly. She is playful and really enjoys the dog park, and is great with people and kids but a little shy initially. Sadie is also a great traveler in the car! Such a silly girl as you can see by these photos! She would do best in an active home with a yard and another dog to play with. Sissy is 8ish-years, 8-pounds female chihuahua mix who just flew in from Texas to NYC. She is snuggly and cuddly and pretty much an indoor dog. Miss Sissy is fully wee pad trained and not at all familar with the city sights and sounds, which are scary to her. This teeny mini german shepherd look-alike will sit happily with her human in the park, but is not a fan of walking around the busy streets. Sissy barks a bit at new people but warms up quickly especially with treats. If you are looking for a pocket-sized home-body dog, this is your girl! Vaccinated but needs microchip and spay. Snow is 2ish-years, 10-pounds male chihuahua mix from the Brooklyn animal shelter. Affectionately named Bones by his foster humans, he is a sweet companion! Still a bit fearful after only a week, Bones cowers at times but is really loving and affectionate and prefers to be on your lap or by your side. He walks well on a leash. Snow aka Bones is agile and smart enough to have figured out doggy stairs in his first week. He lives with resident dogs and cats and no issues there thus far. Snow is reportedly fearful of being crated - pre-Waggytail care - from it being used as punishment. Hasn't quite mastered potty training but is learning!  Vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and 1 out of 2 rounds of dhpp (needs 2nd round). Neutered and microchipped.
