Flora can be shy at first, but time and patience is the key! She eats up all the attention she can get. Flora was transferred to the San Antonio Humane Society with 22 other dogs from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. They were a part of an emergency seizure from a home on the City's East Side where over 50 dogs and puppies were being kept in unlivable conditions. Although they are friendly, they are currently in need of socialization and lots of TLC. We believe they will do well in a loving and understanding home with lots of patience and friendly faces. We hope that you'll understand Flora may need some time to feel comfortable here and with any new visitors, but once she warms up to you, she really loves affection. Flora's heartworms are currently being treated here at the SAHS and after adoption, Flora's adopters can take advantage of free heartworm treatment at VCA Animal Hospitals. Heartworms are not contagious between dogs-in fact, transmission of heartworms requires a bite from an infected mosquito. Please give Flora a chance to prove that she's worth your time and love!Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and complimentary follow up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA animal hospital , and 30 days 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less

Foxy came to the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) because her previous family believed she deserved more! She's a very sweet cuddle bug who has been described as "very well behaved." Her previous owners surrendered her due to a lack of space and time. Foxy enjoys playing with crinkle and squeaky toys, and will jump and nibble lightly while tossing her toys around. According to her previous owners, Foxy knows how to SIT, STAY, go DOWN, COME, and SHAKE on command. She walks well on her leash and enjoys lounging on a comfy dog bed after a long day with her favorite companion. If you're interested in visiting this good girl, please speak with staff!Did you know? Over one-fourth of the pets taken in by the SAHS are surrendered by their previous owners. This may be due to owner illness, allergies, relocation, or etc. When meeting this pet, please keep in mind that they are adjusting to everyday life away from familiar surroundings. Please forgive them if they can't seem to keep their attention on you: they may be nervous or distracted by other sights and smells.Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA Animal Hospital, and 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less

"Guy" is still getting used to all the positive attention he's getting. He works regularly with his volunteer pet pal, and he's known to be a sweet bud who is eager to accept treats and affection. When staff approaches his kennel, he can show all the eagerness of a pup excited at the prospect of being walked (playful stance), but he can sometimes shut down when we attempt to put a leash on him. We think it's just nerves. Guy was transferred to the San Antonio Humane Society with 22 other dogs from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. Like any puppy, Kermit is still learning to be a grown-up pup! This includes learning his manners and how to play nicely. Please keep this in mind when you visit him and don't allow him to play with your hand or fingers. He's really hyped about meeting new people and his energy is high. SAHS Dog Trainer, Jenna, believes he just needs training and patience. Puppies are serious commitments, and they'll be depending on you to teach them obedience and proper social behavior. This pet was transferred to the San Antonio Humane Society from another animal organization we regularly partner with. Our partnerships include dozens of other shelters and rescue groups in our area. Transferring pets between shelters opens up space for more pets to be received and also helps hard-to-adopt pets find a new family in another community. The joint efforts of these collaborations and partnerships not only makes our community a more humane environment but also saves hundreds of pets who might otherwise face euthanasia due to overcrowding.Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA Animal Hospital, and 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less

It's not difficult to love Mischa! She's a sweet and mellow girl who will be a loyal companion to her adopters. She's a mostly mellow lady, but she does enjoy going on walks and playing a short game of fetch. She walks very well on her leash, and she's had a lot of practice with our volunteers! After a short bit of exercise, Mischa enjoys relaxing by her favorite person and asking for belly rubs. Mischa enjoys spacious yards where she can carry out one of her favorite hobbies: digging! Our dog trainer believes Mischa would benefit from a family that can provide a fun digging pit for Mischa to play in. You may have noticed Mischa does sometimes have a tendency to bark towards visitors--she's just trying to get your attention. She wants to come out and socialize!Mischa would do well in a home with no cats but she is known to do well with other calm dogs. However, adopters should stay mindful about slowly introducing newly adopted pets to pets at home. Ask staff for more information! Mischa came to the San Antonio Humane Society after her previous owners were no longer able to care for her. She has a Guardian Angel, which means a generous donor has sponsored her adoption fee. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA Animal Hospital, and 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less

According to Oona's Pet Pal Volunteer, she is "quite possibly the most wonderful lady in the joint. Watch out for her hugs!" While Oona is quite the sweetie, she's still a little nervous around visitors and will be looking for patience and understanding in her new home as she continues to acclimate to a more stable life and environment. We hope interested adopters will not let shyness overshadow sweetness! Oona was transferred to the San Antonio Humane Society with 22 other dogs from the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. Ignore the gray on Roy's muzzle! It definitely doesn't define him. This beautiful brindle boxer enjoys socializing with visitors, so don't hesitate if you're considering a visit. He's a regular walker with our volunteers who say "he has a spring in his step and acts almost like a spry pup." Roy walks well on his leash and does not jump on his caregivers. Roy really enjoys treats... maybe even too much! Be sure to offer Roy a treat with a flat palm to avoid any accidental nibbles. If you have a treat handy, Roy will sit for it! He's a good boy. Roy has a Guardian Angel. That means a generous donor has sponsored his adoption fee! Roy is heartworm positive. He is currently being treated for his heartworms at the San Antonio Humane Society, and adopters are able to get FREE heartworm treatment at local VCA Animal Hospitals. Ask staff for details! Roy came to the San Antonio Humane Society after a good Samaritan brought him in as a stray. He was thin and hungry when he arrived at their door, and he's a much happier pupper in our care. He's looking for his forever companion, and we hope he won't have long to wait. Visit him soon!Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA Animal Hospital, and 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less

Wiley absolutely loves rope toys and playing a good game of fetch. This smart pup knows how to SIT and go DOWN for a treat-he'll even catch them in the air! He's a boy of many surprises. We're afraid Wiley may be getting overlooked because he's "just another brown dog," but the truth is he's so much more! He'll be your everyday companion and he's looking for someone who will stick with him for life. He's a great jogging partner, and although we recommend a harness, he isn't a regular puller. Though he may suddenly change direction on you, it's easily corrected and overall he walks well on a leash. He's known to do well with other friendly dogs, but what he's really looking for is affection. He loves pets and cuddles. Please don't be discouraged by how he acts in his kennel (he can seem a bit over eager with all the barking and jumping), out in the yard it's like night and day! He's an active boy with a loving heart. Don't just take our word for it, drop in and spend the afternoon with Wiley!Wiley's adoption fee has been sponsored by Red McCombs Toyota as their Pet of the Month!Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations, microchip, de-wormer, flea and heartworm prevention, complimentary wellness exam (within 5 days of adoption) and complimentary follow-up care (within 14 days of adoption) at any VCA animal hospital, and 30 days 24PetWatch Pet Insurance. show less
