She`s never needy or pushy but has a calm presence, never barks and over time her affectionate comes out. She loves outings. She lives with a small dog in foster and prefers aloof animals. This very good boy was initially shy and a bit scared when he first arrived but he`s come out of his shell so much! Alpha is now confident and goofy and he LOVES adventure! Whether it be going on a hike at McKinney Falls State Park, or going swimming, or even just hopping in the car for some sightseeing – Alfalfa is your guy!Alfafa is not only curious and adventurous, he is also a smarty pants! He knows several commands (sit, down, and shake), and we`re pretty sure he`d love to learn a few more. Oh, and he is somewhat of a diva… that’s right, Alfafa loves it when you brush his hair. He’ll thank you by wagging his bushy tail and maybe even giving you a kiss or two!As a larger, black dog, Alfafa is often overlooked here. When you walk past his kennel, he`ll bark and jump, but all he`s trying to say is `pick me!`. And he doesn`t understand why nobody ever does pick him :( Alpha just needs someone to give him a chance, which is why we`re hoping to find him a foster home, so they can see the amazing dog he is without all the stress of being at the shelter. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Alfafa will go home with everything you need, including a crate, harness, goodie bag, a training voucher, and all the support you need. Please email them for more info, or to set up a time to meet him: orangedotcrew@gmail.com data-link=`https://photos.app.goo.gl/bRpHCVc39unVMD858` data-title=`A790878 Alpha ` data-description=`4 new photos added to shared album`> show less

If you are looking for a dog with some east coast swagger, Koopa is your guy. Originally from Boston, Koopa’s name is actually Cooper, but we all thought he was saying Koopa. So, Koopa it is! Sometimes he talks about drinking water from the bubblah, seeing the B`s play at the Gahden, and eating grindahs and half moons. We don’t always understand what Koopa is saying, but he sure is cute when he’s saying it! The first words that come to mind when thinking of this boy are adorable, sensitive, and oh-so-awkwahd. When Koopa first arrived at the shelter he was pretty shy and didn`t exactly know what to do with people or toys… even how to walk on a leash. He`s really blossomed with the help of his friends and grown into a playful, engaging, silly, and affectionate sweethaht.Koopa would do best in a home with someone willing to go a bit slowly with him and help him adjust to new experiences. He`ll also need help with mild reactivity to other dogs but he`s gone to pahks around town and had lots of fun… fuh days! With summer here, we are probably gonna get Koopa a wiffle, make sure the ice box is stocked with tonic, and maybe even go down the Cape. Koopa is ready to book it outta here so let us know if you’d like to meet this chahming kid! It`ll be wicked fun! Email us at orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more about Koopa. show less

Penelope. Penelope Cruz. Sweet P! These are all names that friends fondly call this sensitive and loving senior gal. Penelope is ready to leave her past behind her and is looking forward to a future filled with lots of love… and belly rubs! She is described by the people who know her best as affectionate, silly, and loyal. As an… ahem, distinguished lady, Penelope has experience in a home, and knows a thing or two about couch snuggling, potty breaks, and zoomies in a yard. Penelope would be more than glad to snuggle up and watch a movie with you, or take a leisurely stroll in the neighborhood in the cool mornings or evenings. When she feels happy and safe, Penelope makes the cutest little grunt. Oink oink! She can sometimes be particular about new people but it all comes from a past that she had no control over. As an outside dog, Penelope felt the need to protect her home and family from strangers. Her ideal home would be low traffic, and slow proper intros when there are visitors. She does have the potential to live with another calm, respectful, low-medium energy dog. We would love to introduce you to Penelope if you think she sounds like the dog for you!Email orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more! She`s available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means you`ll have two weeks to get to know each other before sealing the deal! Come to the Austin Animal Center at 7201 Levander Loop during open hours (11am-7pm) to meet her! show less

You know those folks who are always bright and happy, no matter the circumstances? This is true for Putter, who after nearly a year in and out of the shelter system is ready to have a family of her own to love! This always-happy gal has lived wonderfully in a home before, but was brought to the shelter due to changes in her owners` living situations. However, they let us know that here`s what you`ll get when you take Putter home: belly rubs, cuddles, playtime with stuffed toys, basic commands, constant tail wags, gratitude and an always-smiling face! Check out her video below for proof. She is VERY crate-trained and LOVES people. She treats everyone like an old friend. She is whip smart and will thrive with a family interested in working with her on new commands and focus games. Putter`s last foster provider shared that she is `one of the friendliest and confident dogs I have met. Thinks she is a lap dog, sniffs absolutely everything, clumsy goofball at times, & loves being held and loved. She sleeps through the night and likes to be close to her human! I would feed her, give her space, then immediately she would attempt to give me a `hug` and would roll near my side. Speaking of rolling, falling off the couch was a daily occurrence. This is the sweetest, most loving, and intuitive dog I have ever met!`CONTACT her Champion Sara at 312-493-0390 or sara@friendsofaac.org. Putter is available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means we`ll have two weeks to get to know each other. Fun fact: Putter is also a cover girl, and made her modeling debut in a shelter calendar this year! show less

*read/sing to the tune of Rio Rio by Duran DuranHis name is RioAnd he sits, high-fives, and shakes.Just like the goodest boy he shows his love for youAnd when he shines he really shows you all he can Oh Rio, Rio wishes for his forever friend!Oh Rio’s family come and let’s go hike the Rio Grande!Rio has been an absolute doll of an office dog with the Animal Protection Officers. He was always excited to have anyone walk into the office and insisted on greeting each and everyone. He never chewed on anything that wasn`t explicitly given to him, and even then he wasn`t much of a chewer. He does love a well stuffed kong or treats though! The only notable time he took something that wasn`t his was when he took a staff member`s zip-up hoodie to his bed to sleep with. He didn`t do anything but snuggle it, and that is down right heart-warming and endearing. He loves to walk and could be a great running/hiking buddy. We hope a public kennel will help him find his furever home or a lovely foster until that certain someone(s) come along. Rio is a perfect house guest. He was in an office for a while and didn`t get into anything he wasn`t supposed to. He is definitely potty-trained as well! He for certain acts young and is very athletic and would love walks, hikes, or even runs. He is pretty smart as well and could do agility training work if you wanted to go that route to burn his physical and mental energy. As for his dog sociability, he did go to play group a couple times but didn`t love it. He was attacked a few times by other large dogs and gets a bit worried when in a group of big dogs. He has the potential of doing well with one dog his size or slightly larger, but groups may always be a bit intimidating for him. He does not do well with small dogs, cats, or other small animals including chickens. For further information and inquires please come to the shelter and meet this sweet boy. His Champion is Hilary, she works here and is the owner of previously mention hoodie, so just ask if she is in and she would be more than happy to come help you get to know this chocolate dream boy! Meet Scout! This handsome fella is looking for a special adopter who can help him be the best dog he can be. From his friends at Orange Dot Crew: `We just love this quirky dude! And it`s important to know that he is indeed quirky. While going through heartworm treatment as a young’in, his family did not touch him because they were worried it might excite him too much. We know it is important to do your best to keep your dog calm during heartworm treatment. However, not being touched, while also being confined for so long during a crucial time in his young life, made Scout wary of being touched by people he didn’t know well. Scout’s trust must now understandably be earned. But if you are patient and willing to go at his pace, he will open up and show you what a loving boy he is! While it can be disappointing to not be able to touch him as much as we’d like, that’s his preference and we respect his boundaries. It’s important to go slowly and show him that we are his friends! Scout`s favorite thing to do is lie in the kiddie pool. He is not a fan of big swimming pools because he can`t feel the bottom! But give this boy a kiddie pool, and you have one very happy (and wet!!) pup.Scout is as smart as he is handsome! He knows several commands (sit, down, shake, stay) and we have no doubt he can learn even more if you want to work with him. Please email the Orange Dot Crew at orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more about him! show less

This lovable boy was originally named `Roger` when he arrived at the Austin Animal Center in June as a stray with severe wounds on his face, head, chest, and legs. He landed himself in an awesome foster home to recover from three rounds of surgery. His foster family soon learned that he didn`t respond to Roger, but carried himself much like the very debonair, handsome, and strong actor Patrick Swayze. Swayze is a quiet and loving furry little gentleman. He exemplifies how forgiving animals can be. His sweet nature and slow pace show you he has no emotional scars from whatever happened to him. His foster believes little lover boy would be a perfect companion for someone in search of a low-maintenance pup. Swayze does well in his crate when left alone. Apartment life seems to suit him well, but he also loves to lay outside on the balcony, pretend it’s a yard, and smell all the smells. Swayze has adorable little habits that all center around how much he loves to be around people. Swayze loves to collect a piece of his foster’s laundry and snuggle with it. He loves snuggling with anything that smells like his person. On walks around the neighborhood, Swayze greets every single human who passes with a slow and gentle kiss on the hand. The of the most adorable thing about Swayze is that he doesn’t make a sound. He whimpers fondly when he sees another dog friend on his walks, but is otherwise completely silent. Swayze is dog friendly and has shown respect to cat friends. Overall, his foster says Swayze is an A+ gentle furry family member who just wants someone to help him feel safe and loved. If you would like to meet Swayze, email his foster mom at lauren.knobloch@gmail.com. Swayze is part of the Classic Canines nonprofit advocacy program at AAC. Find Classic Canines on Facebook at Facebook.com/ClassicCaninesATX or write us at caring@classiccanines.org. show less
