This bonded pair have lived peacefully indoors, happiest balancing their time between napping in safe, quiet places and enjoying time as lap cats - kneading the perfect place on your lap to cozy up and enjoy some gentle pets.  Bella is the more social of the pair and Bisou is her bigger (and more timid) sister, but with a little patience and tenderness she warms and stretches out to soak up some chin & belly pets.  Both are affectionate, but Bisou takes a little more time to build trust with her caregivers. Life at home has changed for Bella & Bisou; what once was their exclusive domain now includes two young children - and the environment they once enjoyed quietly lounging in a lap has become noisy, active, and lacking the relaxed time to love them in the way to which they've become accustomed and crave.  The time has come for them to move on to a home which can provide the peace, pace, care, and kindness which they deserve - so please reach out if you have the right home to offer and can enjoy these lovable sisters. And just look at that adoring expression on his face, don't you just love it!  Bobby is playful but not as crazy about it, and he knows when it’s time to kick back and just chill as the picture shows!  Still we want him to have a playmate, and it would be ideal if it could be Melvey, as Cathy and Freddy already have forever homes.  But Bobby would also be OK with any other feline - he is that laid back - and fine with kids and gentle dogs.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Online Adoption Application › Loving and adorable, but very special needsBriar is outgoing, loving, playful and loves life.  He purrs close to non-stop and head butts you for loving.  But he had a perianal hernia and GI tract complications since he was rescued as a bottle baby.  Multiple attempts to help him with vets locally would work for a while, but finally we had to take him to UC Davis vets for another surgery.  This created quite a large vet bill for the group, requires special food, and significant care.Any donation will help significantly, towards his bill, and his on-going expenses. Please help us fund this little guy - - never seen such a trooper in a little kitten, he won’t give up; help us make sure we don’t have to!    THANKS for helping!UPDATE Nov 5 2015, working with the vets we have come up with a mix of canned and kibble to help  Briar's poop firm up some so he makes the litter tray more and has gained some weight in last months.  He had stalled at about 5lbs, but with the mix of canned and kibble we've got him up to 6 lbs.  Also we had a scare when he plugged up with a hairball in rectum - with work we got it out.  But now he gets every meal hairball treatment gel till shedding season is over, and we have trimmed his beautiful tail (sadly) so he will not ingest the long 4' tail hairs.   Still he's a wonderful, happy, beautiful cat!    UPDATE Dec 14 , he is gaining weight and is now up to 4lbs at 6 months of age, yeah!Update Jan 15, 2016- at Vet check he was 4.8 lbs (yeah!) and is now got Royal Canin Mommy and Babycat kibble, as well as canned IAMS intestinal plus food to eat, both easy to digest, so poop a bit more consistant timing and firmer .Update March 6, 2016-  After trying baby kibble with Briar and finding it was a very fine balance to keep him from getting too firm of poop, we have started him on Metamucil in his canned food at the recommendation of UC Davis.   So far we find that is nicely helping to manage the really loose stool.Update Sept 20, 2016 - Briar is much better on Meatmucil and gained some weight as he's able to not have the food just run through im!  Though he still doesn't always make it to the litter tray its much firmer poop and easy to clean up.   He's just a total love bug and he's worth the work! Update August 2017We have him on a diet of canned food mixed with metamucil and it does a realitively good job firming up his stool but sometimes he still can't make the litter box so he does have his own lineoulum floored room.  And he does get out to hang out in the house when we can watch him to clean up after him if needed.  We did have a scare earlier this month when he had a bout of colitis but the Vet said that can hit any cat and figured it was an isolated instance and so far she is right!Update January 2019 Its a new year and briar is already 4.5 yrs old, wow time flies!  We have worked out a specific food for him mixed with metamucil and he is doing much better about getting to the litter box now.  Still sometimes has accidents but we are pleased that it is somewhat better and if you are looking to help support him the food is Fancy feast (Gravy Lovers chicken feast in grilled chicken flavor gravy).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Casey Jones is a gorgeous long-haired flame-point kitty with amazing blue eyes.  He is fixed and chipped.  Several years ago, his right-rear leg and several inches of tail were amputated due to very severe injuries.  He doesn't usually let that bother him, and he gets around fairly well.  He needs to be an indoor-only cat, though.       He weighs less than eight pounds, in part due to the missing leg, but he is also a relatively small kitty.  He is an adult, at a guess somewhere between 6 and 8 years old.   He is talkative, but does not have the typical low-pitched Siamese voice.  He is particularly talkative when you are handing out chicken-flavored Temptations treats, or when you are putting down his wet food, which we usually mixed with extra water for him to lap up.  We re-introduced wet food when our vet noticed his weight was going down; it went back up again with the wet food added back in.   He generally does not like to sit in any human's lap, but he does like to sit right next to his people after he warms up to them.  He would often curl up on the couch next to me, or in a kitty bed right next to the couch.  He likes being brushed, but mostly on the cheeks and not on the belly where he can sometimes get mats.  He can be picked up, but usually he gets unhappy after a short period and wants to be put back on the floor.  He purrs when you pet him, and loves head scritchies.   The reason we are unable to provide a home for him is that he needs to be an only cat.  He simply does not get along consistently with the other cats in our household.  We have not had him around dogs or children, so we do not know how he acts around them.  I suspect he would like children, as he tends to approach us when we use higher-pitched voices, but that could be wishful thinking on my part.   He is good about using the litter box, and prefers it to be clean.   We would love to see him get into a loving home where he can be the only cat. Contact info would be this email address, damp_dave@yahoo.com .  I would put any inquiries through to his foster mama, Pat, who has him now. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › So Sweet Honey was her First Name Demi is one of the many cats rescued from an apartment complex in San Jose. Demi came up to the 13th St Cats volunteer asking for pets before being fed. The decision was made to rescue Demi when she tried to get in the volunteer’s car and leave with her. Demi loves all kinds to toys, mice being her favorite. Interaction with humans engages Demi nightly. She will sit under the bookshelf where the wand toys are kept waiting and silently asking for play time. She loves being petted and sleeping next to her foster. Demi is slowly getting used to being picked up and cuddled. This task will require patience from the adopter. Demi has the cutest vocalizations when asking for food and treats. Street cats know to be quiet so Demi doesn’t have much experience talking. She makes sound like a soprano frog, “reebit, reebit.” Demi gets along with other cats, older and younger. She loves company and is affectionate and docile. It is best that she get adopted into a house with multiple cats and/or people. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bonded, needing outdoor homeThe Ballad of Henry and Gigi Meet Henry and Gigi--two community cats born under a broken down van on the Peninsula.  This bonded pair have lived their whole lives in the surrounding backyards, quietly carrying on with life in the shadows.  I met them two years ago when I moved into the neighborhood and joined others caring for them.  I've been committed to them ever since.  Sometimes Henry nuzzles me for pets, and I look into his purely innocent eyes and I tell him everything is going to be okay, I won't let you down.  It's a hard life outside for a homeless cat, even with some human help, and they bring dignity to everything they do in spite of their circumstances.  They know when to trust and when to run; where to bask in the sun and where to hide from a dog.  Now times have changed for Henry and Gigi. They are now no longer welcome on the private land where they have thrived for twelve years.  Suddenly the cats' world is shrinking, their safe space going away, and life is changing fast.  Too fast.  But my commitment to them is certain; I will not let them down.  The time has come for them to move on and I will guide them to a new home.  A home, a barn, a large property-there are many ways these semi-feral cats can be safe again--so please reach out if you have a refuge to offer.  With love and patience, they will adjust to a new life, for Henry and Gigi have always transcended and thrived, and they will again with your help. Gray/white (Henry), Gray (Gigi) DLH (Henry), DSH (Gigi) 12 years (best estimate) These two cats have lived outdoors entire lives Spayed/neutered: Yes Gets along with kids, dogs, other cats: Unknown Henry is very affectionate and loves to be petted once he knows you, Gigi will sometimes let you pet her; both develop trust with caregivers over time.   If you have a piece of property or someplace these two can call home, contact seibeck63@gmail.com THIS animal listing is a COURTESY LISTING - not a 13th St Cat Rescue animal. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Calm, loving soulKiwi is a calm and loving soul. All she wants is a quiet, peaceful home where she can cuddle up to you and sleep. She loves attention but she needs to be the one to initiate it. She’s a chubby kitty but doesn’t realize it. She likes to crawl on you and lay WHEREVER she’s comfortable sitting. She talks to you when you pet her and when she wants your attention. She loves treats and to explore  when it’s quiet. Once she’s comfortable, she’s like one of the family. She’s only interacted with our other cat and he was mean for a very long time. She was very scared and we never introduced her to another animal. She does not like to be picked up but she will lay on you when she wants to be loved (which is often). She is an indoor only kitty and has excellent litter box habits. I am still a kitten at heart and like to play for hours with my toys. I especially like foam balls and hunting down my squeaky mouse and bird.  I even play fetch, liked to walk around carrying the balls and brings them to my foster home to toss like a dog. I really enjoy all the attention that I can get; I love to sit in your lap and will purr loudly so you know how happy I am. I enjoy being close to my foster mom so I can get my chin scratched, back rubbed and like to keep her company so I am always in on what’s going on in the house. I am litter box trained, use a scratching post, I like sleeping in my cat bed, on a soft blanket, or on my foster moms bed. I am a very well behaved kitty, with good kitty manner and a wonderful disposition. My dream home would be preferably with a family as the only cat because I enjoy lots of attention. I would like being housed with one of my kittens, as I do play and enjoy their company now that they are old enough to be on their own. Online Adoption Application ›  Marky is a very sweet cat who appeared at a managed feral colony about a year ago and the regular feeders quickly noticed how confident and friendly he was with them, to the point of jumping into one feeder’s car. The volunteers thought he deserved a safe indoor home if he was open to it so he was brought into a foster home for assessment. He was an angel at his vet appointment, where we learned that he is FELV/FIV negative, about 5 years old, in good overall health, and has “amazingly clean ears”. He has made fantastic progress interacting with his foster parents and adapting to being indoors, where he absolutely loves being petted and receiving belly rubs. However, he still startles easily and is continuing to learn that new visitors aren’t scary. To get to the next level of socialization and adoptability he needs more space and a foster with more time to interact with him. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.I found Mini as a kitten on the University of Tel Aviv Campus is Israel 13 years ago. Since then she has moved with me to Ann Arbor, MI and Sacramento CA - she is quite the traveler and is bilingual. Mini was born with Cerebellar hypoplasia, a mild form of brain damage which means she is a bit wobbly and cannot jump (so she can't go on the furniture :) ). Her condition does not require any special medical attention or medication. Mini doesn't know she is an extra special cat, she loves to run around, will ask for you to pick her up and hold her and is very affectionate and sweet. She is quite talkative. Mini has lived with Snoopy for most of her life. She is OK with dogs and kids and will probably do OK with other cats as well. She loves to go outside, but needs supervision or a well fenced yard, since she cannot defend herself. She uses her litter box well. Mini has a history of crystals in her urine, so it's best if she eats food formulated for urinary tract issues. Mini is a long haired black cat. Due to a medical emergency, I am forced to leave the US back to live close to family there. It breaks my heart that I cannot take my cats with me this time. I hope I can find them a good loving home that will enjoy then as much as I do.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Really Big Mittens/PawsMittens was brought to 13th St Cat Rescue because of the open wound on his leg. He had been left homeless when his family moved away 3 years ago. Mittens had been living by the kindness of strangers but lost too many battles with the neighborhood feral cats. He had the leg wound and both canine teeth broken; underweight and FIV+. He was not a candidate for returning to the streets. The leg wound is healed and the weight is increasing. Mittens enjoys the family life and since being neutered no longer has the drive to go outside. We want him to stay that way. Mittens still has issues. He loves being petted and doesn't know when to stop. He can get aggressive with his play. He’s learning to play with toys, wand toys and lasers, and not human hands. He is a big cat and needs space to expend his energy. Then he likes to chill with his family. Looking for a large addition to your cat family? Mittens is the one for you.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. He was severely anemic, underweight  and suffering from issues with his mouth and ulcerations to the pads of all four paws. He needed a great deal of medical care - removal of all of his teeth and a few surgeries to  his paws. He recovered well and his paws are  perfect with no further issues. His mouth is doing great but needs to be monitored with medication given daily  Moses is the smartest cat i have ever fostered. He has too much intellligence and energy to be cooped up in a small space any longer. He is very independent and slow to warm up to people but he loves to play and is very charming in his own way We are looking for an adopter or foster who has a large enough space for him to run around in ; who is fine going slow in letting him get to know you and who can appreciate just how awesome he is- even if petting him is always when he decides he wants it! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Playful, sweet girlMouser was rescued with her sister Minnie when they were about three months old from a feral colony. Mouser had a mouse in her mouth the first time I saw her, thus the names. Mouser is a gorgeous tortoiseshell colored kitty with a lot of black coloring. She's a very sweet girl and loves to be pet and have her stomach rubbed. Mouser will follow me around the house wanting pets and love. She's also very playful and likes other cats. Due to her background, she is shy with new people and situations so she needs someone who is patient and understanding while she adjust to a new home and person. Once she's comfortable though, she's a playful, sweet girl. Mouser would love to be adopted with her sister Minnie who she's attached to, but can also be adopted out alone to a good home. Mouser will make a great addition to someone's home. Mouser is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, deflead, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Online Adoption Application › My gosh isnt' she pretty, she knows it but is no Prima Donna either.  Yes October is a character enjoys being petted, and brushed gently, and playing some.  She is people-oriented and is a great companion cat for a single person or quiet home, as is common with calicos. She greets in the morning and loves some petting thiem and hangs out with you in the evening.  She has no bad vices, and is very sweet though isn't one to be carried all over the house. In this particular case, this beautiful calico is looking for a new home as she was an owner surrender when the family adopted her when they had one 2yo kid and then got overwhelmed as they starting having kids and ended up with 3 kids under 6 -  - not a surprise it overwhelemed October as well!  This is why we suspect she will be best in a quiet home without a bunch of little kids taunting her. She can be viewed at the foster home by appointment.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sweet Boy, Needing Humans to LovePanda is a very sweet boy who lives for human contact despite his recent tough life on the streets. This beautiful boy is not feral. Escaped, dumped, who knows. New cats often show up where ferals and strays are being fed.   Panda was found at a community cat feed in very bad shape - broken jaw and teeth, filthy and Hungry! He had surgery to repair his jaw and remove 4 broken teeth in April and has recovered very well. So much so that he needs to get out of this cage and into a foster or forever home asap!  He is so happy to be safe, warm, dry and free of pain at last. He is loving and so affectionate. Now that he is fully recovered his rescuer is trying very hard to find a good home for him or even a foster until kitten season is over. Panda recovered from his injuries in her garage “kitty hospital” and he is lonely now for the home he once had.  Can you help him? Can you open your hearts and offer a home or ask all your wonderful friends and family? If someone has a home for Panda, but not the money, his rescuer will pay for food and any vet bills and is open to deliver him to his new family. He is currently in Palo Alto near 101 and San Antonio Rd. Please  email Snowpony25@yahoo.com  THIS animal listing is a COURTESY LISTING - not a 13th St Cat Rescue animal. He is a very handsome gray tabby who loves attention and just wants a real home to love him, indoor/outdoor is fine, he is very good about staying in the yard, and perfect indoor manners. He even rides in the car happily and comes when you call. Just look at that cute pose in the bed!!!!!!!!!! Foster would keep him but they are allergic. The foster says he is smart, he minds them, isnt' that cool?!?. He'll run to you like a dog, when he sees you to greet you, he so enjoys people. He is 5 years old, and just doesn't understand why his owner isn't with him. BUT we've learned he'll be best as ONLY cat - no other pets, and NO LITTLE KIDS, as he's got some overstimulation behavior at times. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and deflead, of course. Please give this cat a second chance at love, if you think he'll be a fit. We think he won't disappoint you if you understand his personality and needs. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Big orange tabby needing love“Red” is a big orange tabby with medium to long hair. He showed up around October of 2017 as a stray. But he is constantly being picked on by the other stray/ferals that his foster if feeding and socializing.  Even though he has been around a while they have not come around to accept him and I feels bad that he is constantly harassed/attacked by the other cats.  He seems to have no problems with other cats being around at all, they see the ones with the problem with him.  Maybe it’s because of his size.  He is a stockier cat than the rest.  He was full grown when he arrived.  I did hop on the scale once with him and he was around 14lbs.  He is quite the big boy.  He is very skittish but once he trusts you he is quite the lover kitty.  He loves to be petted.  He immediately rolls over to give me his belly for a rub when I walk outside.  When I go to pick up the bowls he is rubbing his head on my hand.  He loves kitty treats and to snuggle up on the cat bed for a nap.  He has come inside a lot but usually doesn’t venture far into the house.  He likes to just snuggle on the cat beds near the door.  He does cower a lot of times but I pick him up and once I start petting him his motor comes on…and he’s a bit of a drooler.  If he was the first cat to walk into my patio he would have been an indoor pet for sure.  He truly wants to be loved.   I do not know about his litter box manners.  He does come inside for a while for some naps and to just hang out but always goes outside.  I have not seen him use the box, nor has he spent the whole night inside.  This is due to the fighting with the other cats.  I don’t want that inside.  Whoever takes him would need to be patient with him, but I think he would be an amazing pet.   He was taken in to the humane society around thanksgiving of 2017 and had the TNR done.  He also has a microchip. He gets flea treatment every month.  He has not been back to the vet since then but I would be more than happy to take him in for another round of rabies shots if that would help get him a forever home. He has eats dry food and doesn’t appear to be very picky.  He also enjoys a little wet food that I split between the five cats in the morning.  I wish I could keep every cat but like I said the other four have a problem with him.  They came first so they have seniority. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Hi, my name is Rosie. I used to live on the street with my sisters and brothers. Because I am so friendly, I was taken in by a lady and she contacted 13th Street to help me out.    I'm curious, spunky, and cuddly. When you want to cuddle, I'm ready! I've never scratched anyone -- not my thing.I think I just like humans and trust them. I like to cuddle with mature and calm kids and follow you around. I met a dog once and was a little confused, but I think I might learn to like them. I use the litter box like a big kid, and I didn't mind going into my little home to rest when I was on bed rest after my spay. I didn't even fuss too much when I had to take my medicine!   What I like to do is hang out with you and check out new things. I think I like to explore and learn right now. I'm still learning how to play like a normal kitten with kitten toys --  maybe you can teach me? I also like to look out the window of my bedroom, and when we go on car rides I like to watch the big old world go by.    What I really want is to find someone who will love and cuddle me lots. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Adores Being PettedZozo was rescued as a kitten in 2005, this girl was raised by her human dad for 12 years until she was sadly kicked out of the family through no fault of her own. Being a family friend, I took her in and have been getting to know her and looking for a new family.    She is definitely a senior who knows what she wants in life. While she might seem reserved and a bit grouchy when you first meet her, once she puts you firmly in her friend circle, she is simply adorable   Not exactly a lap kitty, Zozo still *adores* being pet and being near her people. Head rubs are rewarded with endless purrs and surprisingly strong head bonks. While not a fan of being picked up, she’ll tolerate it for a little bit. I was told she used to sleep on her dad’s chest and that he used to use her as a pillow, so once she loves you, I think her tolerance for cuddling is pretty high. She is also a really good conversationalist if you’re looking for someone to chat with. Zozo is a huge fan of sun bathing and food. Her stomach is definitely a way to her heart.   Best in a home without dogs. She kinda hates them. Has shown herself to be cat tolerant. Has lived with an infant and toddler, but I don’t consider her child friendly. She will avoid them.   This senior darling was pretty neglected in the last few years and deserves a loving forever home and people to call her own for keeps. Honestly, I love her and her unique personality, but my house is full.   She uses the litter box like a lady, had no current health issues and has a sense of humor.   Please ask me any questions. She has her own Instagram page at #myzozoproject.
