Pittie, needs a Home! New Hartford, NY, Oneida County DARLIN' - A name, a term of endearment….so deserved for this sweet 62 lb, 5 year old girl. Surrendered to our care when her person lost their home, Darlin' lost everything too – her person, her home, her safety. She’s an amazing dog who is not only housetrained, she heads to the edge of the sidewalk to take care of her business. Her leash manners are good; she pulls only when there is a new scent that can’t wait to be investigated. Darlin comes with rockstar comments from her former person: she’s friendly to all people, loves kids, loves baths and will jump into the tub on her own, loves dogs of both genders but prefers males to females, is not a fan of kitties, sleeps on her own bed but will sometimes sneak onto her person’s bed in the middle of the night, loves to jump and give kisses, loves belly rubs, and knows sit (“put it down”). "I loved my time with this sweetheart – she is everything her former owner said and more. She’s gorgeous, sweet, playful, snuggly, takes treats gently, has a great smile and gorgeous eyes, is beautifully groomed, loved playing with a plush toy, posed for photos like a pro. Seriously, if you are still reading this and not rushing over to meet her you are missing out on a gem. Darlin' – her name and a very deserved term of endearment, but don’t just take my word for it…..see for yourself." Darlin is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. This happy, healthy, darling girl DARLIN is ready to meet you! ? show less

12 Photos · Updated 3 years ago Queens, NY - ****Update: 12/3/17**** Freddy is now staying at a vet hospital while we look for a foster home for him. Here is what his advocate and sponsor had to say about him : "I managed to arrive a couple of minutes before Mathew brought Frodo in. He immediately made himself at home: jumping at everybody and kissing everybody. He is extremely outgoing, friendly and sweet dog. He came with scratched nose and sides of lips. I could lift him, hold him, put ointment on the scratches. He is very young and has a lot of energy of course. Thus I had to steady him by holding his muzzle to put ointment on – no problem at all. His accommodations are very good: the hospital is very warm, he has separate room with huge crate (good enough for a Great Dane), I provided two comforters, two soft wide collers, two leashes, a sweater and a coat. There are other animals in the hospital overnight too. I walked him longer than an hour yesterday night and today morning. We will continue this schedule of walking. I am taking it easy: he learned “wait” quickly so I can pick his poop up and let cars and people pass (not so many in this area). Making him walk together with me will be of course harder job. I do not request for dogs to truly heal but they should not ever be in front or in back of me – we should walk together side by side with them sniffing and etc. I will have pictures taken during the week-end: too much going on now. There is a possibility of foster round the corner from me. But I am taking everything one step at a time. The hospital personnel is very compassionate and experienced with rescue. They loved him from the first sight. They will take good care of him for now. I think he will get a lot of attention and will be much happier there. He is very small and I think he is a pedigree: a true pit with stance and body type – just miniature. I have seen some like that: the owners told me that they are called “Bulli pits”. I will check it out." Stay tuned for more on Freddy Frodo! A volunteer writes: Hello up there, new human friend! My name’s Frodo, this is my chew toy, and we’re on the hunt for an adventure…wanna come with me? I’m a lot like that other Frodo you know, pint-sized, innocent and true of heart, I even have furry feet like him! My whole outlook on life is can-do and I don’t have a beef with anyone. See how I meet passing people and dogs with tail wags and a wigglebutt? That’s just me being me, I am full of love! I’m also full of energy and nothing makes me happier than getting my zoomie on in the yard, playing fetch or just running around with my peeps. I never guard my things, though I play a pretty good game of tug-o-war, and I always keep my mouth what they call ‘soft’ so no one gets hurt–not even the toys! Cuddles are cool too and if you try to kiss me, guess what? I’m gonna kiss you right back. So whaddya say? You, me, my chew toy and endless adventures full of snuggles and fun? I can’t wait to have you as my new sidekick so please say yes. Pretty pretty please with dog treats on top? Freddy is about 2 years old and a petite 43 lbs. show less

PRINCESS LIMA BEAN - 7 years old, 52 lbs, Manhattan Let's get to know each other a bit more... A volunteer writes: Princess Lima Bean is a delicate flower, soft and affectionate and longing for someone to take her under their wing and make her feel safe. She's shy at first, but very much wants to be friends, and with a 'slow and low' approach, is happy to come closer for petting and get dressed in a bandanna for our photo shoot. No camera can truly capture her aristocratic beauty, and she's not a fan of posing. Fortunately, my fun-loving friend Simba is playing in the pen next-door. The two are soon enraptured with each other. Princess hops onto the bench and gazes longingly through the fence, whining a little at her beau who jumps and grins hello back at her, then throws in a few reciprocal whines of his own. Even after he leaves the yard, her big brown eyes keep watch on the door, a perfectly loyal Juliet wondering wherefore art her Romeo. I'm a poor substitute but try to soften the loss with some gentle snuggles, and Princess sweetly rewards me with fluttering little cheek kisses. Out in the street she walks nicely on leash, almost immediately takes care of business, and passes yappy small dogs with ease. When a familiar staff member approaches, she greets them with tiny happy tail wags. Princess is quietly charming, easy to handle and so easy to love. With time and TLC from a caring family, she's going to blossom into the most wonderful pet. Lima Bean Videos: https://youtu.be/_DMbKAaOdm0 https://youtu.be/AFAsoS-ZLHo show less

Like AC/DC famously said “ We are back in Black” How could you not when you look at this gorgeous hunk? A total love machine... Dogs and kids, look out! You’ve found your forever friend! This guy craves companionship from both 2 legged and 4 legged friends. Knock, knock Lab lovers... your ship has come in! He’s moving North and this Southern smooth gentleman is available now! Celebrate your summer with this handsome guy on your arm! From Louie’s Foster Mom: Adorable three-year-old black lab Louie has come such a long way from when we first met him in an Arkansas shelter. Louie came into the shelter as a stray puppy and was at the shelter for about two-and-a-half years before I fostered him. At the shelter, only the volunteers take the dogs out for walks, so the dogs are kenneled 24/7. Louie did not do well at the shelter because he was so terrified he would just cower in the back of his kennel. So I started getting him out by carrying him. He has turned out to be such a wonderful boy, loving kids, dogs, and everyone he meets. If he’s nervous, he will just lie on his back so you can give him a belly rub. Louie loves playing ball and giving kisses. He's just so happy to be out of the shelter. Louie is housebroken, neutered, has all his shots, and is all ready to find his forever home. ***KINGSTON, NY*** 43 Lovebug 2 year old NEVILLE is looking for a Foster or Adopter to take her home! We don't have an AmsterDog newspaper but if we did, this beautiful girl Neville would be on the front page because we need to get her a home pronto. Neville, the Hawaiian Pineapple pizza of dogs, the indie rock band of pups, the Williamsburg of pooches, is differently delicious, enticingly edgy and crazy cool. Part pretty pittie, part little lovebug, Neville, has a neurological disorder that doesn't impact her lust for life one darn bit. It just looks like she's bopping to to the beat a little. We think it makes Neville that much more adorable and one in a million. It doesn't stop her from being one happy pup. And it doesn't stop her from dreaming of a home of her own. Or a pair of feet she can put her head on after a day of doing her favorite thing, running around in a big yard. Or giving kisses to her mama or daddy while she convinces them to give her treats. Or maybe even another dog brother or sister but we don't know about other dogs yet. What we do know, is this pup is just like all of us, looking for true love and for someone who sees it when they see her beautiful face. At the end of your day, no promotion, no new pair of shoes, not even really good pie is going to make you feel as good as the love of a pup. And Neville is a certified perfect pup. So call us! Email us! Message us! Neville can't use the computer so we will respond for her. Neville is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped. Any vet expenses will be completely covered. For more info on this outstanding girl, please message AmsterDog at 917 689 8414 or go to our website to fill out our online application, www.amsterdog.org Thanks for caring about a pet in need! show less

PAPA, 3.5 years old, 54 lbs, Berlin NJ *** Likes cats / needs solo dog home - No kids Papa is available for adoption! He is very loving with people, but will guard home against strangers. When one says “a good dog” we all think of Papa - he really is such a good boy. So loving, affectionate, intuitive, smart, just a well rounded pup. Papa lost the only home he has ever known due to no fault of his own - his owner passed away. Heartbroken Papa is waiting patiently for someone to notice him and give him another chance at life. A kennel is not a place for this wonderful boy! Will you open your home to him? Papa is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. If you would like to meet this sweet boy, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 A volunteer writes: A beautiful dog, inside and out. A good dog, a loyal dog, one who will trust and love his master, no matter what. You might just see a brown and shy dog in a kennel, I get it. But what you see is not the real Papa. Yes, Papa is his name and he is with us for no fault of his own. His owner passed away. Papa stayed with a neighbor for a few days before brought to the shelter. Papa is slowly coming out of his shell as he understands that we mean well and empathize with his loss. I simply fell in love with him after getting my first kiss at the end of a bonding session. I knew he could trust. I knew I could trust him. It was written all over him. Although I know I owe a walk to many dogs in the care center, Papa gets to see me at least three times when I am there. I can’t help it. He is now most often found at his door, still with puzzled puppy eyes but so ready for his stroll to the park or around the block. He does not mind pigeons, squirrels. He loves to hop on a bench and squeeze against me(or a staff) for hugs, kisses and comfort. Papa is such a friend, one I am pretty sure got a lot of love and good care from his former master. I (we) dream for Papa to find the most wonderful home ever (I wish it was mine) and a new loving owner. Papa Video: https://youtu.be/aJmLiQwGmHA https://youtu.be/7HDNow0TJhI show less

RANGER, 1 years old, 60 lbs, Verplanck NY Ranger is a precious boy! Super sweet, friendly, affecitonate - loves everyone he meets, adores other dogs and is great with children! Let's get to know each other a bit more... A volunteer writes: If you've ever wondered what a giant puppy would look like, look no further than Ranger. His gangly legs, soulful eyes, floppy paws and happy-go-lucky attitude leave no doubt that this boy is still a babe -- but it's clear he's more than ready for a family of his own. When we met, he was calmly lounging in his kennel and quick to accept an invitation to walk. When we stopped for photos, he plopped onto the sidewalk and struck a model pose complete with a cocky head tilt. His brindle swirl coloring is definitely a show stopper. Back on our walk, we quickly discovered this is one strong boy who knows where he's headed - mostly to look for a playmate. The staff did give him an "A" in play group! He sat nicely for treats, then jumped on the park bench and oh-so-briefly laid his head in my lap. He was keenly interested in everything and wanted to explore new sniffs and sights. A visit to the yard showed that toys are not his passion although water spraying out of a hose was a brief attention grabber. He was much more interested in what (or who) was in the next pen. Clearly, if given a chance, his first love would be another dog. Could Ranger be the dog for you? Ranger is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. You can also get the process started by filling out our online application: http://amsterdog.org/adoptionfoster-application/ Comments of Ruby's foster mom: Ruby is truly a gem... Senior my butt! Ruby is light years younger in spirit and body than she is in years. I can only hope that my golden years find me as fit, fun and fancy-free. She loves everything about humans and it is clear that she was a well-loved family member at one point in her life. She craves human attention and shadows me around the house. That said, she crates well and after a few minutes of voicing displeasure, settles down nicely for the evening. She loves to curl up on the sofa and snuggle during ‘tv time’... Eager to take car rides, she makes and excellent co-pilot! Housebroken, crate trained, non-destructive, zero guarding issues with food, treats, toys, etc. She doesn’t mind being touched anywhere, bathes nicely and listens when told to sit, lie down, get down from the sofa, crate up, etc. Sadly, it appears that Ruby was not socialized much. Although not aggressive, she is not a fan of other dogs approaching her (offers very strong corrections when approached) and is way too interested in the cat. Ruby is a great fit for any human home and would offer a teenager an excellent play partner. I believe she is best as an only pet or perhaps after very slow introduction with a calm, non-pushy pup. Definitely advise against cats. You may know me from such films as... https://youtu.be/Y0c3Jr6n8lU A volunteer writes: Ruby is a born socialite! She beams in crowds as well as with only one caretaker. She goes from one person to another, samples treats and enjoys togetherness and caresses. She always wears a smile, her prime asset, wags her tail and wiggles her butt to let you know that you are most welcome! She loves to kiss, too. Nobody can resist Ruby! She is the life of the party! Although her previous owner stated that she never mingled with kids, Ruby was all excited to see a mob of pupils coming out of a nearby school. She is a great walker, likely housetrained and well mannered nearing birds and other dogs. Ruby is great company, charming, active, playful, sociable and very loving. She will make a very endearing, lively and affectionate companion to the person who will choose her as his/her new four legged best friend. Come and meet spunky Ruby! show less

**Hyde Park, MA 02136** Valentine’s Day may be a few weeks away but our sweet vanilla and butterscotch Sasha is ready to steal your heart TODAY. Just one look into those baby brown eyes and next thing you know you’re in love. This 6 year old AmsterDog is a pretty little lady with a big heart and even bigger dreams. You see, she was emaciated at 24 lbs. when animal control found her, but she is now all filled out and healthy. At night, when Sasha is sleeping, she dreams of her forever family. She sees herself cuddling with them, reassuring her that she is home because she’s a smart, sensitive lady that just needs a reminder that “It’s OK!”. She sees herself sneaking naps with her humans when they doze off watching their favorite shows. She’s not picky about her choice of TV but we have feeling Sasha is a fan of rom coms. She sees a whole room full of tennis balls (ok maybe just a basket) and playing catch with her family. Sasha loves her naps, but this lady likes her exercise too. Wow, this is one long dream because Sasha also sees just a few furry friends. After all she went through we think she would be better in a home where she’s one of the few animals or a pretty chill environment. She might be OK with a bigger crew after a while but she is still unwinding from that scary city shelter. Sasha sees giving and getting lots of love from her family and being silly at the same time. Sasha might not see this in her dream, but we had to add that she is occasionally guarding her food slightly. An easy adjustment but hey, who wouldn’t be like “Hands off my meal” if you didn’t know where your next meal was coming from. This dream sounds pretty sweet so let’s make it come true for this beautiful pup and come fall in love with Sasha! Sasha is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped. SCULLY (now Rosie) - 3 years old, 62 lbs, Waxhaw, NC My name used to be Scully but my foster mama calls me Rosie. I am currently being fostered in NC after being surrendered to a kill shelter in December, right before Christmas no less. I'm a boxer pittie mix and am almost three years old. My ideal home would be with an active person/couple as I have lots of energy. If you have a fenced in backyard even better! I love, love, love to run and play but still need to learn to come back to you. Off leash is a no no without a fence. I adore long walks and light hiking. I can probably be trained for longer hikes and to go on a morning run with you! I have allergies to chicken and fleas and am on a special diet and medication presently. My foster mom is transitioning me to a limited ingredient commercial diet. Seems to be working fine and my allergies are in check. I'm am so easy peasy to medicate - you can drop it on top of my food or give it to me rolled in cheese. I LOVE cheese. Really, I do. Oh, I also love organic apples, baby carrots and bananas. My foster mom gives me these as treats. Unfortunately I am not a cat lover so a home with NO CATS is required. I am iffy with other dogs. Some I like. Some I don't. I am the girl boss after all. I would LOVE to be your one and only. I was surrendered from a home with small children, one small dog and two ferrets because the landlord said I had to go. I do have a loud bark. Maybe it was that? I'm shy at first and need a week or two to settle in. And for some reason I am a lap dog. Or, at least I think I should be. I have the most soulful eyes and give lots of kisses. I can shake and am decent on a leash, regular and retractable. A volunteer writes: Scully. Without her Mulder? Looking up for UFO’s? Maybe. Miss Scully started off as scared in her kennel, as this isn’t what she knows. She knows her former family of 2 adults, 2 young children and 2 ferrets, her soft bed, a full food bowl (she’s allergic to chicken), and covers to hide under if there’s a thunder storm. Scully is finally persuaded that I’m a friend, and once out, goes potty (we’re told she’s housetrained), shows me nice leash manners, and then off leash in the back joins me on the bench for some petting. Pleasantly plump, she’s been fed with love, her coat clean and groomed. Scully enjoys treats, taking them gently, gives kisses through the fence at a dog in an adjoining pen, and while still a bit anxious at this upheaval in her life, is making friends and coming out of her shell. We’re told she can be shy with strangers at first, and we’re all strangers, so this is a lot for this beautiful girl to deal with. And she’s dealing just fine, figuring it out step by step. I don’t do change well either, so I get Miss Scully and how brave she’s being. Scully is a proven family girl, and even liked licking the ferrets, so let’s get this little girl into a new home so she can once again have a family to love and take care of. A volunteer updates: That’s my girl! Scully saw me approach, her tail starts to wag and she came forward to be leashed. (She licked the ferrets she lived with, I still love that about her!) She’s figured out the routine, knows that people with leashes are friends ready to take her out for a walk and she’s a happy girl. Off leash, some zoomies, some bounces, some tail wags and a big smile; she’s happy to be out to stretch her legs and go potty. She’s such a beautiful dog, she takes my breath away as I watch her scamper through the pen. She’s ready to be part of a loving family again, and all she needs is for you to meet her and say “she’s the one”, and take her home. You’ll want to, trust me. SLADE - 2 years old, 41 lbs Manhattan *** Sweet Gentle affection seeking Slade arrived at the shelter with blunt force trauma wounds all over his poor little body. Slade is a little guy that seems to have hit a rough patch, but even though he's a little banged up he is as cute and sweet as can be! He is very friendly, frequently props his paws up for attention, and wags his tail when you talk to him. He is house-trained, likes treats, but most importantly likes to spend his time next to you. He's looking for a place to heal and a family to love... From his foster mom: "A bouncy compact bundle of joy whos tail has not stopped wagging since the minute he walked in our door. Despite the fact of the obvious cruelty, there is not a mean bone in this little guy's body. When you see the injuries on his sweet face and that vulnerable small stature it makes you wonder how someone could be so heartless. Just to watch him can warm the coldest of hearts… He is so spectacular that in only hours he has taken our lives by storm! Yet after A full day of bouncing, kissing, making the world a better place, he hits his bed hard and floats off to dreamland! This boy loves to sleep! And sleep he does! Once it's lights out, he means it. Considering he weighs only 41 pounds, I can assure you that 40 pounds of it is all heart! He deserves the best Home in the world! He's taken our breath away and deserves nothing less than perfection. Whoever would be lucky and blessed enough to have this kind hearted sweet face gentle lamb in their life has certainly won the lottery." Slade is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots. STAR - 9 years young, 55 lbs, Fire Island NY Words from Star’s foster mom: “Star is approximately 9 years old and 55 pounds. She is fine walking by dogs in the street, never had an issue with that. She has not been around any young kids only my nieces. I think she will be fine but she is “pawsy” when requesting pets. She barks when she knows we are home (she is downstairs in the bedroom separate when this happens) and just wants to be with us. When we are not home she doesn’t bark. We have a video camera and can hear what’s going on. She is fine with strangers. She has shown some fear when meeting certain people and I realized that is when they stand over her and stare at her. But once they give her a pet she’s their friend forever. She was outside when the mailman came and was fine and accepted pets from strangers in fire island. She was initially afraid of my dad, he gave her a treat and now they are best friends and he picks her up to go for rides. I leave her out in the morning and she has free range On the first floor of our house. She has never chewed on anything but her toys and will typically go lay on her bed after I leave.” Star is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped. Three cheers for this handsome, long-legged fellow. He’s the epitome of athletic yet humble. He has a way of expressing his independence in ways that you don’t usually find. Once Teardrop finds you comfy as a pillow, he’ll want to stretch out and won’t want to leave your lap. But he’s also up for a nice run so he can feel the wind blowing in his face. I mean with those legs, can you blame him? Teardrop will blow your mind with his best-of-both worlds attitude, but there’s only one way to find out! A volunteer adds: He may not have found his family just yet but Teardrop isn’t feeling sorry for himself and you’ll always find him front and center in his den, chatting up a storm and eager to let everyone know that he can’t wait to get out and start doing what he does best–loving on his friends! Whether they walk on two legs or four, this sweet boy has enough room in his heart for everyone and he’s equally happy sitting on a warm lap or softly playing with other pups in playgroup. Out on the street Teardrop can be a bit overwhelmed by all the noise and bustle of the city but he responds well to a reassuring voice and tries hard to be brave, sniffing all around and greeting passing dogs with a happy tail. He appreciates treats and toys (or better still, a treat hiding inside a toy!) and takes them politely and he’s always happy to share his good fortune with others. A kind-hearted pup with a ton of potential, Teardrop is searching for a family to love and a safe space to build his confidence and become the amazing grown-up he was always meant to be.
