Coco is a two year old active and affectionate brindle pit mix with a complicated past who is looking for a home with patient and experienced people willing to continue her training. Coco was initially adopted unspayed from the city shelter by a family with semi-permanent housing and therefore moved around a lot and had at least one litter of puppies. She came to us during a project of spaying and neutering cats at a homeless shelter. It's unclear how much time Coco had been able to spend outside and it appears that most of her experience with other dogs had been traumatic. Coco is very dog-reactive and at this point has yet to be able to interact with other dogs. Fast forward a few months and this dog has become our shadow. Tiny chance she thinks she is a cat (who could blame her considering she lives at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe), but she is also OBSESSED with playing fetch -- so much so, that she has been known to toss the ball for herself. She loves to cuddle and give hugs and is extremely obedient when inside. If given the chance, she will curl up with you at night, snoring gently. Due to being so dog-reactive, it is hard to capture her focus when outside. That said, she is continually improving. Coco still needs some extensive training to have the confidence and ability for casual strolls on the sidewalk without occasionally losing her mind and barking her head off at nearby dogs. We are still working on her dog aggression, but feel that in order to make permanent progress, she needs more stability and more attention. We would love to find a foster to adopt home for Coco to continue honing her skills. We can provide some ongoing support -- either via phone and/or in person if you are located near Brooklyn Heights or Fort Greene or have a car and are willing to come to us. We've taken some extra time before listing Coco for adoption because she is still a work in progress, but aren't we all? We would love if Coco found a home with access to backyard or outdoor space or in an area that isn't as saturated with dogs as Brooklyn Heights to give her a more relaxed chance to work on her outside skills  Coco adores cats, but does like to chase and play hard. Although Coco has yet to make a dog friend, it is very possible that with appropriate (and probably very slow) introduction, she would really enjoy and thrive in a household with another dog. She clearly wants to play, just doesn't know how yet. If you are interested in fostering Coco with the intention to adopt, please fill out an application at -- if you have specific questions, feel free to email, but please note that due to limited resources, there may be a long delay — the fastest way to receive a response is to put in an application. show less

**COURTESY POST** Madeleine was definitely indoors as a small kitten, but ended up outside and pregnant at 8 months old. She wants to be very loving, but had to be a bit cautious. Her kittens were born as soon as she got resettled indoors and she took wonderful care of them. Now it’s her turn to find a loving home preferably with another cat or kitten, because she’s a great kitty friend. Mighty Righty understands humans. He purrs like a Harley when his humans hold him for long periods, never asking to be put down. If you’re up to playing, so is he. He will even carefully keep his claws in while standing on his hind legs and playing hand jive with you. The alpha of the litter, he makes sure the territory is safe for him and his siblings, not backing down from the current territory holders. Lulu also loves being held, often even on her back, like a baby. She will climb your pants legs to get you to pick her up. But dangle a string, and she’s off on a playtime adventure. All the Most will also climb into your lap or arms, whatever it takes to get to you. Naturally, he loves interactive play and group grooming. Mon Ami can be the wildest player in the group, jumping flips to get to his goal, but when the game is over he will totally melt in your arms and show you how he earned his name. Venus is the most vocal of the group, though they are all fine communicators. Like all her siblings, she loves play time, meal time, and petting time. She’s recently begun to appreciate the wonders of being held by her human, and wonders why she held out at all. All are FIV/FeLV negative, spayed/neutered, and fully up-to-date on their shots etc. If you’re interested in meeting this adorable family, please contact June at show less
