My StoryI am a gentleman who loves to go out on a walk, but I don’t need to get anywhere too quickly. I love to have a good time and play, but I’m ok with just hanging out if that’s more of your thing. I have been at my current place for about 6 months now and I’m really looking for a change of scenery. I know a couple of commands in Korean and I am very good at “sit”. How many dogs do you know that are bilingual? Also, have you seen my eyebrows? Handsome huh?My Perfect MatchMy last relationship ended after 5 years so I am really looking for somewhere to call home again. A dog bed, a couple of toys and someone to show off my amazing qualities to would be ideal. Also, if you are up for it, I really enjoy a good back/butt scratch. My Ideal DateI’m a pretty laid back guy so I would love a quiet stroll through the national park while we enjoy the company of one another. We could keep it low key and go back home to watch the game and relax with a cold one afterwards, or we could stay out and see the sights and picnic. I will also say that ending the date with a few kisses is probably a given.Send me a message if you’d like to share your home with me. Of course I’m up for a long-term place to call home, but if a short-term foster commitment is more your thing I can be flexible.***Want to learn more about this sweet boy? Buddy is the epitome of resilience. After his owner died and nobody in the family could care for him, he lost the only home he ever knew and was surrendered to the shelter. Buddy was understandably afraid those first few days…. he would shake and cower and we were pretty worried about him. But then Buddy decided this wasn`t such a bad place after all and we all finally got to meet the real Buddy! The confident, goofy, sweet Buddy. The very chatty Buddy! That`s right… Buddy has all the gossip and he wants to tell you all about it. Oh, you`re looking for a housetrained dog? Check! One who walks nicely on a leash? Check! You`re also looking for a dog who likes to go on hikes and explore? Check! And you want a dog who is sweet and happy even after all he`s been through? Check! Buddy lived with a poodle in his last home, and we think with proper and slow intros, he could live with another dog again. More than anything, though, Buddy is looking for a human to come scoop him up and remind him that it`s all gonna be okay. He`ll return the kindness with sweet Buddy kisses. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Buddy goes home with a harness, training voucher, and all the support and guidance you need. Please email us for more information on Buddy, or to set up a time to meet him: orangedotcrew@gmail.com show less

Check out Chuck with his one pointy ear and one floppy ear! We`re already in love.Chuck is a classy, calm, well-mannered gentlemen with his trademark pointed ears, model-like dimples, and scrunched face, he makes heads turn with these stunning characteristics. As if those wrinkles didn`t distinguish him enough, he makes the cutest strange little noises to help let you know just what he`s thinking rather than barking. Chuck is very observant of his surroundings and loves to watch the world go by without displaying any reactive behavior. We did not test him with another canine companion but could imagine his low-key demeanor would carry over in those situations but would recommend a meet-and-greet as with any addition to a new squad. He would make for an excellent apartment roommate to a human given there are skyline views or a nice porch to roam. Chuck can be your well-behaved restaurant patio companion for happy hour drinks or Taco Tuesdays as long as you`re willing to share because he LOVES tacos but not so much P Terry`s french fries (I told you he was unique, right?!). On weekends, he`s down to get a bit adventurous and stick his toes in the waters of the Greenbelt and catch a tan sunbathing by Lady Bird Lake. Chuck is still getting used to the idea of someone leading him thru life instead of roaming the streets alone so he takes a bit of time to gain trust and will need a confident owner willing to help him build up his own. He may not walk perfectly on a leash just yet but he will not pull and can be trusted. If you`re able to provide Chuck with an urban lifestyle he so greatly deserves, he`ll reward you with the luxury of loyal companionship for life. Come down and meet Chuck at Austin Animal Center today! show less

Little Miss Giddy Up has been spending some time in a foster home, and here is what her foster mom has to say:`Giddy is really a household service animal in many different ways. She ensures any critters like squirrels and birds are aware that she is there and they ought not to be. She helps to remind you to pick up small chewable items off the floor. She cleans up any food or drink spills quickly. She ensures you are never lonely while using the restroom. She makes sure while you shower, no drips come out and hit the floor by promptly licking them up. She will also lick dry your legs if you let her. She destuffs all the stuffed animals on the floor so they don`t hurt you while you sleep. And best of all, she makes sure you know she loves you. She is the most lovable lap dog anyone could ask for. She sneaks into your bed and your heart faster than you think is possible. One time we had gone to Tractor Supply for an in store pickup and decided to bring her. She introduced herself to anyone within leash distance and wiggled so hard for them and soaked up all the loves. I`m not sure how, but she was trying to show me something and pulled me through the store to get me there. It turned out she could smell the dog toy section from across the store and just NEEDED a new one. She got to pick one out and carried it to the register to check out. ADORABLE!`Giddy goes all in with everything she does. She plays hard, sleeps hard, and most of all loves hard. She is always very excited to see you come home, loves good games of tug-of-war or fetch, and thoroughly enjoys naps with her head in your lap. She is crate and house trained. If you want to learn more about Giddy and find out if she could be your next family member, email her foster mom at cldalgetty@gmail.com show less

People are Mamas` favorite. She wants to always be nearest them if she can and her favorite pastime is napping at her owner`s feet. Mamas enjoys long walks and even occasional jogs. When she visits a dog-friendly restaurant or bar, she will likely position herself in the best spot to meet the most people. She has even been known to walk up to perfect strangers at other tables to nap at their feet. Mamas has never met a person she didn`t like and the kids on her street know her by name because she is so gentle, warm, and loving towards them (gives lots of kisses). She has even done well at the office, too! She has never had an accident inside the home and she asks for permission before joining you on the bed or couch. She doesn`t bark much and doesn`t have an overwhelming presence (jumping on people, getting rowdy when guests enter the home). That`s not to say she doesn`t have a warm welcome when her owner walks in the door. She does laps around the house when her caretaker arrives home after a day of work to show her excitement that you have finally made it home. Overall, Mamas is a wonderful companion and would be the perfect touch to a home that is missing a little extra love and personality! It remains a mystery as to why someone hasn`t adopted her yet! Mingus didn`t have the best start when he came to AAC. He arrived as a skinny stray and was pretty scared and confused. Luckily, Mingus was able to go into foster and he has been doing great! Mingus would love an active adopter who will take him out and about in our lovely city. His favorite activities are learning new tricks, hiking around Austin, and swimming in the creek. Mingus likes to play with other pups, and he has an exuberant play style. As such, he`d do best with a playful, confident dog. A yard to run around in would be at the top of his wish list! Mingus enjoys what his foster calls `Tub Time` every evening. This is when his foster turns on the water in the bathtub, and then Mingus hops in and splashes about. His foster actually leaves the bathroom so Mingus can enjoy his Tub Time solo. He doesn`t make a mess, either… he just enjoys getting his little paws wet. It is seriously the most adorable thing! Mingus has been working with a trainer and he is doing really well; his trainer says he`s super smart! Mingus will go home not only with a training voucher, but also with the assistance of the Orange Dot Crew. They will make sure you have all the guidance, support, and equipment you need to make Mingus a successful member of your family. *read/sing to the tune of Rio Rio by Duran DuranHis name is RioAnd he sits, high-fives, and shakes.Just like the goodest boy he shows his love for youAnd when he shines he really shows you all he can Oh Rio, Rio wishes for his forever friend!Oh Rio’s family come and let’s go hike the Rio Grande!Rio has been an absolute doll of an office dog for the last few months with the Animal Protection Officers. He was always excited to have anyone walk into the office and insisted on greeting each and everyone. He never chewed on anything that wasn`t explicitly given to him, and even then he wasn`t much of a chewer. He does love a well stuffed kong or treats though! The only notable time he took something that wasn`t his was when he took a staff member`s zip-up hoodie to his bed to sleep with. He didn`t do anything but snuggle it, and that is doawn right heart-warming and endearing. He loves to walk and could be a great running/hiking buddy. We hope a public kennel will help him find his furever home or a lovely foster until that certain someone(s) come along. For further information and inquires please come to the shelter and meet this sweet boy. His Champion is Hilary, she works here and is the owner of previously mention hoodie, so just ask if she is in and she would be more than happy to come help you get to know this chocolate dream boy! You can also reach out via email to: hilary.shurtleff@americanpetsalive.org. He would do best in a home with no cats, but a doggy friend could be nice!! show less

A letter from Sam`s foster family:`Sam`s favorite thing, by far - is to give kisses! So much so that we have to say `Okay, no more kisses for now!` We have timed it - he will kiss you for over 2 minutes straight if you let him. He absolutely loves to cuddle and be by your side. He loves to sleep in the bed if allowed, but is just as happy on a dog bed next to you. He loves playing with his foster siblings- who are 15 and 30 lbs less than what he his. They like to play rough. And to be honest- he takes a minute to learn to love a new dog. But once they slowly meet he becomes the submissive one in the friendship. Our 1.5 year old pup loves to pull on his collar, although we don`t allow it, he just sits there and takes it. He is the sweetest dog to humans too- sometimes he gets a bit excited and nibbles, so would do best with older kids or adults, but I have never met a more loving dog. He loves walks- but also loves his sleep- a lot. He wouldn`t have any issues living in an apartment. He runs in our back yard at times but usually does his business and comes back in right away. He stays in a crate while we are at work during the day with no problems. He has no food aggression at all and LOVES his chew toys- which he kindly gives up if one of our bratty dogs takes it from him. We joke about trading in our 2 dogs for him. We are only allowed 3 dogs per our HOA, and we do not want stop fostering- otherwise we would claim him as our forever pup in a heartbeat. I am jealous of his future forever family, they will have one of the greatest dogs alive.`If you think Sam is your next `forever pup`, email jacqueslagel@gmail.com to learn more about him! show less
