About King and Nina

Nina is an active 2yo 45lb border collie/german shepherd mix. She has a lot of personality and can be a total derp (tongue hanging out sideways and everything)! She's housebroken and crate trained, and walks amazing on the leash! She loves other dogs and is good with indoor cats. She is pretty high energy and enjoys going on hikes and playing with her canine siblings. She MUST go to a home where there is a resident confident adult medium-large dog (she worships the male german shepherd in her foster home but is best friends with a female Doberman the same age.. she's fine with small dogs but she's a bit too rambunctious for them). She has also discovered the comforts of the couch and loves to lay along the top and get petted while you watch movies. Because she can still be skittish with people though, she should NOT go to a home with children or apartment living (no exceptions!). She would do best in a gentle, quiet adult only home with another dog and a house with fenced yard. She has gained a lot of skills and confidence while in her foster home, but she is ready for the next chapter in her life with a new family that will continue to help her grow. Here is Nina’s story video: https://youtu.be/KxWGwurZVWk King is Nina’s companion/emotional support dog. He’s a 7-8yo purebred 75lb German Shepherd. Nina WORSHIPS him and is his shadow, follows him everywhere, and they even crate together. King is a mellow boy who prefers lounging in the house or on the couch. He would do best in a cat-free home.  They are not for first time dog owner, but when together they’re pretty easy. All they need is a couch and a yard.  Adoption fee for the two together will be $550. Nina can also be adopted by herself without King, however, we are requiring she go to a home that has another resident dog, and that she goes with a pal pup (either King or another known friend) for the first week during the transition phase, so that she doesn’t panic in a new home. ** PLEASE READ HIS DESCRIPTION BEFORE CALLING/APPLYING! ** His super cute looks are deceiving! Roger is a "project dog"! Which means he will need on-going training and is ONLY available to an SF Bay Area experienced, sport dog home. Roger is a 8 year old, 10lb Australian Terrier/Jack Russell mix, and this guy is ALL terrier!! (His personality is probably closest to that of a Jack Russell) He loves to play with other small dogs, is good with cats (although sometimes he wants to play with them if they run). He LOVES to play (can’t say this enough), and he is very high energy. He has learned a handful of tricks (is a titled Advanced Trick Dog), and he competes in USDAA Agility (with two titles already- SPS and PD)!, so he must go to a home that can continue dog sports with him, and keep him very active, both mentally and physically. He’s like the energizer bunny, and he is one of the smartest dogs we have ever met, scary smart! He does also love to snuggle with his person and give kisses. He’s crate-trained and housebroken. His only issue (besides his energy and intelligence level) is *fear aggression toward strangers* (will bite if a stranger approaches, reaches their hand for/toward him, or spooks him), but with lots of patience, management, training (counter conditioning), and carefully monitored socialization, his fear has decreased, but it may never go completely away, so you can never let your guard down with him. He has gotten a LOT better in his foster home over the last several years, but will need someone to continue the right kind of training with him. He does seem to warm up much faster to young women than to older people or men. This is why he’d do best in a home with NO children and with someone experienced with terrier or high energy breeds (like herding dogs) and near-professional dog behavior experience. Once you give this dog a chance, you will fall in love! He’s really such an absolutely brilliant dog, the life of the party! Roger has been in rescue since 3/2011. Roger is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and will come with a collar, harness, leash, and bag of food!
