About George

George is a special needs fully rear paralyzed shihtzu who needs to have his bladder expressed several times a day in lieu of traditional potty breaks. Failure to do so will cause leaking and potential urinary tract infections which can lead to bladder stones. It is citical for his adoption. George was relinquished by his family because he was rear paralyzed. We believe that his paralysis was from abuse and has left some emotional scars as well as the obvious phyiscal damage. George started out very guarded with humans as well as with foods and toys. He came to us very underweight and we suspect he was denied food as well. We have worked with George and earned his trust but whoever adopts him will need to do the same. It may take him a couple months or more before he feels safe. Once he does he will be an amazing companion. He loves his toys and thinks belly rubs are awesome. He will do best in a home with a dog of similar size that he can play with. He should not be around children because of his prior suspected history. It would be unfair to him and the children if he felt threatened and snapped at them. George is fulled vetted. He has been neutered, had a dental, all vaccinations, microchipped, and is heartworm negative. George will come with his custom made cart as well. We are not a brick and mortar shelter. We are home based fosters. We all work full time jobs and volunteer for the rescue. We try to get back to you in 48 hours. The process to adopt is to complete an adoption application. Once that is approved we can move on to a required home visit and schedule a meet and greet. We do no adopt out of state. Jenny is sweet 6 year old girl who wants to be your Velcro dog. She was a family dog that met abuse by the men in the household and caused her to be taken into animal control unable to use her rear legs. We brought her into our rescue and using conservative treatment were able to get her mobile again. She relapsed a second time and has remained stable but it is possible it could happen again and so she is considered special needs. Should she relapse she will need physical therapy and water therapy. Her adopter has to be willing to provide that care for her or please don't apply. Jenny holds no ill will against anyone. She is always smiling, wagging her tail and happy for some belly rubs. She loves to run and play with other nice similar sized respectful dogs. Her gait is a bit wobby but that doesn't matter to Jenny. Jenny will need to be taken out more frequently to prevent any dribbling which is a remnant of her paralysis. While that might be a little more work, her love and loyalty will over ride a little extra effort for her care. We would lilke Jenny's adopter to maintain annual visits with her current chiropractor to prevent recurrence. That being said we can only adopt in the local Chicago metor area. We do require home visits and completed approved applications before any meet and greets. If you would like to contact us please do so through this site or you can email us at RescueTailsAnimalWelfare@gmail.com. We are all volunteers and will try to get back to you in 24 hours or less. show less

Nellie is said to be 15. We agree she is a senior but she might be a touch younger. Her family brought her into Animal Control to euthanize her saying she had vulva cancer. There is no such thing! They made it up and never had the vet diagnose her! Nellie had a polyp on her uterus. We had it removed when we got her spayed and did her dental! Nellie is am amazing happy dog who wants to be your couch companion and BFF. She has wonderful house manners and a constant wagging tail. She is a true delight! She may not hear well but her eyes see well. She climbs up stairs with no effort. She does have cherry eye that caused dry eye. Nellie does need to see the opthamologist annually and need twice daily prescription eye drops for life to to dry eye. Beyond that she is quite healthy and a good eater! Nellie is fine with other dogs but perfers people to pets. She does protect her space and food and will try to chase other dogs away from her zone. Nellie is fully vetted and would be a great dog for anyone who will give her all the love she deserves. She has been spayed, had a dental, vaccinated and has a microchip. If family please contact us through this website or at RescueTailsAnimalWelfare@gmail.com. We are volunteers with full time jobs who will try to get back to you in 48 hours or less. Thank you for your patience! We do require an approved adoption application before we can schedule a home visit and a potential meet and greet. We only adopt within the local Chicago metro area.
