About Sage

Meet Sage! When rescued from the terrible streets of Houston, Sage was so timid, shy and fearful of every human and dog around her. She had been through so much by herself on the streets where it's a struggle to survive for so many homeless animals. Sage has now over come her fears and gained the confidence in humans and realized that there is indeed a good life that exists after all. Sage loves her hoomans so much. She is very sweet, docile and loves to cuddle right next to you. She is one dog that literally smiles every time she is headed out to the park and her walks with her brothers and sisters. She gets along well with kids and will be a little shy with new dogs until she finally warms up. She will need a few minutes of introduction on a leash with new dogs before she opens up.At the parks and on her walks, she loves barking at other dogs, which is what dogs do and will go into a little defense mode as she used to on the streets if a new dog approaches her. She is fully house trained and the most loving dog. She loves the affection from her hoomans and gives so much more back to them. She loves her treats and does a perfect little tap dance when she is excited or sees her favorite treat. She is the perfect dog for any family looking for a loving little fur baby to add to their family.❤️ Adoption applications can be found at www.adorehouston.org! Meet Annie! Annie is a new addition to the Adore organization. She was saved by her foster family who found her on the street and gave her a safe place to stay. Here is what her foster mom has to say about her: "She is definitely housebroken and has pretty good manners inside. We've worked with her a little too. She loves attention and is not food aggressive; prefers attention to food as rewards. Loves a good belly rub and loves lounging on the futon. She would love more walks than we can give her. We have a cat that we keep separated from her. But they see each other and "Annie" the dog, mostly friendly whines when she sees her. She is pretty friendly. Daughter has taken her up to the boarding facility she works at a couple of times for a visit or grooming and she hasn't been a problem or aggressive. Walks on a leash eagerly. She is really, really funny, sweet and loves to learn (tricks and things). She has not been destructive but loves to chew and shred things, which we coordinate with appropriate stuff. She's about 55 lbs., and we think part German Shepherd and maybe Chow (she has black on her tongue). She doesn't like storms (if she is outside when one is brewing she wants to come in immediately) and she doesn't like other people's lawn equipment (edging and mowing). She loves playing in the sprinkler/hose. She really will make someone who want's a larger dog a great pet!" Annie is soon to be spayed and microchipped (will be before any home visit). She is up to date on vaccines and is heartworm positive. Don't worry, she will begin her treatment soon and at no cost to any adopter! Heartworms are not contagious, email us if you have anymore questions at info@adorehouston.org Adoption applications can be found on our website at www.adorehouston.org/adoption-application/ show less

Meet Champ and Rocco! Champ was found many years ago tied to a tree. Rocco was found starving and eating out of the trash to survive. While they were both found separately, they have been together since 2012. They were both adopted into the same home, unfortunately the family could no longer care for them. Champ is a beautiful German Shepherd who is about 9 years old and weighs about 85 lbs. He is a very sweet boy who walks well on a leash and is dog friendly. He has some skin issues that requires at least one medicated bath twice a month. His hips are in good shape and he does not have hip issues. Champ needs a proper introduction to new people and like any German Shepherd, he grows protective of his family. He is very bonded to Rocco and we will not consider adopting them out separately. Rocco is an (equally beautiful) American Bulldog who is about 8 years old and weighs 86 lbs. Rocco is the definition of sweetness! He will kiss your face whenever he can. He is an old soul that enjoys being around people. Rocco walks well on a leash and is very low energy. Rocco helps Champ build confidence and Champ is more at ease when Rocco is with him. They are both completely house trained, and crate trained. They are dog friendly, but have not interacted with cats yet. These boys are ready to live out the rest of their lives in a loving home. They are neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Meet Cheyenne and Jake! Cheyenne has had a really rough past. She was originally bought from a breeder along with Jake the Yellow Labrador Retriever. They lived out in the country where their owner would leave them outside to fend for themselves. He would leave town for days at a time with no care for Jake or Cheyenne. They had litters of puppies together and Cheyenne was used for entertainment by the man...we do not want to think about that meaning. It has caused Cheyenne to have some anxiety, Jake helps her and is like her therapy dog. Jake and Cheyenne were then rescued, and lived a happy life indoors. Unfortunately, their adopter passed away, and they are once again searching for their forever home. They are currently in a foster home and are doing great. They are both 200% house trained and never go potty or chew things inside. Cheyenne loves attention and is a total sweetheart once she gets comfortable. They both walk well on a leash and enjoy couch time. Jake is your typical loving and sweet family Lab. He is big, but very gentle. They will be a perfect addition to any home. They do well with other dogs, and are great with kids. We have not seen them around cats. They are both spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Meet Gunther! This poor bob-tailed German Shepherd Dog has been through more pain than we can imagine. Adore was contacted by a local shelter who asked us to take in an emergency dog that animal control just picked up. He was found as a stray with his tail DEGLOVED from an unknown cause. After we rushed him from the shelter to our vet, it was determined the best course of action would be to amputate the remainder of his tail. Gunther has since recovered from his horrific injury and he is so much happier. Unfortunately, we were not able to find him a foster and he is stuck in boarding. Gunther is a sweet boy, he is active but with some activity he does mellow out. He has been good with another female large dog in boarding, but he does seem to want to chase cats. We have not seen him with kids yet, but we think he will be good with older kids/teens. While we have not seen him in a home yet, he is very clean in his kennel. He is about 3.5 years old and weighs about 80 lbs. Gunther is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm positive due to being out on the streets. Don't worry, Adore pays for treatment and heartworms are not contagious to people or other animals! I was wandering around the gym parking lot, feeling down-on-my luck when I spotted him. I ran up to him with my tail wagging, looked up with my big brown eyes, and nuzzled his leg. Then I followed him to his car and jumped on in. Any place he could take me would be better than here. It was starting to get cold and I was hungry. This was the start of my rescue story. I wasn’t the prettiest. My body had seen better days. My girlish figure was all gone – you could see all of my ribs sticking out! I had spots of missing fur all over my body. Pesky ringworms. It’s hard to keep those guys away when you’re living on the street. Look at the “Before” first picture of me… I am embarrassed! I am glad that he noticed my beautiful spirit, eyes, and temperament and took a chance on a gal like me. I got taken to a nice vet to fix me all up. Besides the ring-worm, he found out I was suffering from the dreaded Heartworms. Before treating the heartworms, I wanted to get spayed so that I could try to find a forever home. Unfortunately, I had one more hurdle to overcome on my story. While waking up from surgery, I suffered from a pulmonary embolism (due to a heartworm dislodging). Luckily the nice vet was able to save me! This video was taken the same day that I flat-lined and came back to life. As you can see I am a happy go lucky girl that doesn’t let any obstacles slow me down. All I want is a human of my own to love on. I have completed my heartworm treatment, healthy, and ready to go to my forever home! I am a goofy clown who loves making you laugh. I love to smile and wag my tail constantly. I try to be really good and listen to my foster parents. I always sit for my food and to go out on the leash. I am working on potty training. I am dog friendly but have not yet been tested on cats or children. Despite all of my positive qualities, I know I may look scary to some people. I promise I am not scary! I love all people and want to be best friends with any new person I meet. I promise if you give a girl like me a chance, I will be your best friend forever. I want a family of my own – please give me a chance! I am up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. show less
