About Bonnie

Adoption Fee: $350

Meet Bonnie. She is a 3-4-year-old Labrador Retriever mix. Bonnie is a very timid, shy, and adorable girl. She came to us via the shelter where her previous owner turned her in. Abused, starved, and starting to shut down when we met her. When her foster parents brought her into their home, she spent the first few days trying to hide under any surface that she would fit in. They took her to the vet to be checked out and found out her spay sutures had started to come undone, and an infection had started. The veterinarian fixed the opened area and treated the infection. Within a few days, it was apparent that Bonnie began to feel better.

Bonnie has come a long way during the time she has spent with her foster family. She now plays with her foster siblings and has made herself at home, sitting on the couch and dog beds and even plays with toys. Bonnie gets along great with other dogs and loves to play and run around their yard. She also settles nicely and enjoys spending time in her crate or the room with the family. Bonnie sleeps through the night; she is potty trained and knows how to use a doggy door. She is not food or toy aggressive. Bonnie possibly never took a walk. Her foster family is working with her on this. She is still a little scared when you first put the collar or leash on her, but once the walk begins, she relaxes and walks nicely. She is also learning to ride in the car. She is still afraid of this and will need more work.

Bonnie is currently fostered with four other dogs and is thriving with them. She will need to go to a home that has at least one dog that is willing to play with her. Her new family needs to be patient and continue to work on her trust. Most new things can scare her (like being dried off with a towel), but in time, she comes around.

Bonnie is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. If you believe Bonnie is a good fit for your family, please fill out the application on the WCLRR web site. If you are already approved to adopt, please send an email to adopt@wclrr.org and express your interest in Bonnie.

Meet Derek! He is a ten-month-old male yellow Labrador Retriever. Derek was surrendered to WCLRR because his young family had another baby, and there wasn't time for him.  Derek was, unfortunately, an outside dog in his previous home. Once he came into the rescue, his foster mom worked with getting him comfortable in the house. For the first several days, he refused to go inside. Derek now sleeps comfortably in his foster home. He is doing great on his potty-training and enjoying being part of a family.  Derek loves the pool at his foster home and can be seen just lounging on the top step to cool off. Derek has decided being a member of a family is wonderful. He loves to lay around in the evening with his foster family and watch TV. His new family should make sure that they have many safe chew toys and bones, antlers. Nylabones and Kong's are the right choice.  Derek walks ok on a leash and has learned some other basic commands like sit and no. He is a smart boy; however, additional training will be needed, but he's demonstrated he's eager to learn. His new home needs to make sure items are picked up off the floor, making sure Derek doesn't get them.  Derek has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on his vaccines.  If you are interested in Derek and have already been approved to adopt, please send an email to adopt@wclrr.org and put "DEREK" in the subject line explaining why he is an excellent fit for your family. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE "ADOPT" BUTTON ON THIS PAGE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION WITH WCLRR! Due to the overwhelming demand for dogs and the current shortage of Labradors and Golden Retrievers in need of rescue, your wait time to adopt could be very long. We are trying our best to get dogs to families, and your patience is appreciated. You may have a considerable wait time after applying and having your home interview. Neither one guarantees you will receive a dog.  show less

Meet Gloria! She is a  sweet chocolate female Labrador Retriever approximately 14 months old, and she is everything a Labrador Retriever should be. Gloria loves people and especially loves other dogs, big, small, seniors, and puppies. She loves swimming and playing in the pool. Gloria also loves to fetch the ball or disc and is always up for a fun game of tug a war. Gloria is still considered a puppy and likes to chew on everything. Her new family should supply appropriate chew toys for her, such as Kong's and Nylabones.  Gloria has started her obedience training and quickly excelled in mastering the commands "wait," "sit, "down," and and "come." She even learned tricks like "sit pretty, "shake," and "say a prayer." Gloria is a quick learner, and continued training will make her better.  Gloria's leash and walking manners are still a work in progress, but maybe some outdoor sounds and environments are still a little scary to her. We believe that Gloria was a backyard dog and not exposed to sounds in the outside world; skateboards, garbage trucks, and loud noises startle her, so continued exposure to outside noises will help her.  Gloria has been spayed, microchipped, and is current on her vaccinations.  If you are interested in Gloria and have already been approved to adopt, please send an email to adopt@wclrr.org and put "GLORIA" in the subject line and explaining why she is a great fit for your family.  PLEASE DO NOT USE THE "ADOPT" BUTTON ON THIS PAGE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION WITH WCLRR!
