About Piper

Piper is 1ish-years, 6-pounds female chihuahua/miniature pinscher mix who just arrived to NYC. She was surrendered by a Texas family taking care of her for a homeless family member. Piper is a charming little girl with some puppy energy, but who also loves to cuddle and nap. Piper is still getting used to the NYC noises and needs some encouragement with leash walking and to not be startled by the sights, sounds, stairs, and other dogs everywhere - but she is very friendly. This long-legged kissy girl is doing great with wee wee pad training and going potty outside - once she does her business outside, she's pretty much done with her walk. Those long legs aren't just for looks - she cam jump, too! Another dog ar home is best for Piper to play with to release her energy.

Received rabies, dhppl and bordatella. Microchipped and spayed.

Bobby Brown is 8-months, 10-pound male chihuahua/dachshund mix. This smiley guy is fun, loving and energetic. He is a little shy at first, but warms up quite quickly, and then shows his true love! Bobby Brown gets along beautifully with his foster fur-sibling - he just adores the other pup and loves to play. He is still getting used to the outside and still gets a little scared of loud noises, but familiarity should cure that in no time. Bobby Brown is mainly house-trained with wee pads but also goes potty outside. This cute boy also lives with a human child and is great with him! Received rabies vaccine, and two rounds of dhpp & bordatella - needs final round. Heartworm negative and neutered. Unsure if chipped - waiting confirmation.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Brenda (aka Buttercup) is a 10ish-month old, 10-pound female terrrier/pekingnese mix originally found in Tijuana with her two brothers. Brenda is an energetic and playful puppy with an adorable underbite! This happy girl loves the dog park and meeting other pups and their humans. She loves playing indoors with toys, or outside with other dogs that match her energy level. Based on her sweet temperament, we imagine she would be fine with children, but unknown for sure. Brenda is looking for a family that is home during the day to be active with, or another playful dog to keep her busy. She is not thrilled being left alone for long periods of time, but is wee-pad trained and learning to go potty outside. Brenda walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. She also is crate-trained and sleeps all night without a peep! Vaccinated, spayed, microchipped. Sweet Gordo was rescued from a hoarder's house. About 11 year old mix breed that weighs 23.6 lbs. He has early cataracts in both eyes so maybe his hesitation to walk around is due to some vision impairment although vet thinks he can see well enough to get around.  He was really scared when he first came in to us but he's come out of his shell and is so so gentle.  You can do anything to him he doesn't mind but he's still cautious.  He has a heart murmur.  He is not neutered. His teeth have some plaque but not terrible. He also has mild arthritis in his hip joints.   We'd love to find him a patient forever home, but we would consider foster to adopt. He does need a new foster who can give him eyed drops every 4 to 6 hours.  This is TRULY a rescue dog! Here's Jacko! A 7ish-years, 10-pound male chihuahua mix. He is low-key and quiet and his hobbies mainly include napping. Jacko is healthy and house-trained and also loves going on walks. He loves people and hanging out but gets a little barky on leash walks near other dogs. He takes a bit of time to warm up to you, but he is a good little guy! We are still learning about him, and are unsure about cats or kids but stay tuned! He was a real charmer at his recent photo shoot with @photosforfostersnyc. Judge is 2ish-year old, 13-pounds male miniature pinscher mix. He is a happy, playful little guy who is also equally sweet and affectionate! Judge is great with other dogs (especially the resident frenchie in the photo) sometimes he gets a little mouthy and excited when he plays - but not at all aggressive. He has medium to high energy and walks pretty well, but could use some reinforcement on leash skills. This gorgeous boy is house-trained and sleeps perfectly contently in a crate all night. He really enjoys long walks with his humans and foster fur-brother. Look at those ears! Because Judge is very active, we're looking to place him in a home with another dog. Received rabies, bordetella and dhpp vaccines. Neutered and micro-chipped. Little Man is a 6 year old, 17 pound male chihuahua mix who arrived from Tijuana in July. He came into rescue when his military owner had to move away. Little Man is a very special all-around great and sweet dog! A couple weeks after he arrived he was sadly diagnosed with a heart condition and he is looking for a special friend who is around a lot and can follow his medication schedule and really pamper him with love. Full health disclosure - the specialist we took him to gave him up to a year to live, but we are very hopeful after seeing him really blossoming in his foster home after he got started on the medications two months ago. On his last appointment he had improved so much that he can wait 3 months for his next follow-up with the cardiologist.  Little Man is very calm and gentle and spends most of the day sleeping. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you around like a shadow. He likes to snuggle up next to you, but is also independent enough that he will retreat to his bed and sleep through the night in his own space. Because of his condition, he needs to stay low activity - he's happy going for short walks around the block on his own pace. He's very mellow and doesn't really bark, though when his person returns home, he will run laps around the apartment, wagging his tail like crazy while making happy squeaky sounds! He is a funny little one, and will also have a few spikes of energy throughout the day where he loves to play fetch with his toys! He can howl and cry a bit when his favorite people leave him alone for too long - he would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home! He's at his happiest when he is napping the day away in close proximity to his people. He walks great on a leash and is calm around other dogs, and does well with cats also. He's a smart one who learns easily, and is very food motivated! He's pee pad trained within a small area (such as a playpen.) Some of the heart medications he is on are diuretics which means he drinks a lot of water and needs the bathroom frequently. In his foster home, he goes to the backyard door to signal that he needs to pee (about every 2 hours when he is awake.) Medication details: Currently, Little Man is prescribed 4 different heart medications. 3 of them needs to be given twice a day (every 12 hours). 1 of them needs to be given three times a day (every 8 hours).  Vaccinated for dhpp and rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Merlin is 3ish-years, 7-pounds (needs to gain a few) male stray from the Brooklyn animal shelter. This little muskrat dog is a scruffy ball or fur, eyes, ears and bones - he has a lot of 'getting healthy' to do. Merlin (formerly Malbec but that doesn't suit him) is underweight now eating well since he is safely in foster care. He's currently being treated for some missing hair spots but it doesn't stop his charm! Merlin is SUCH A GOOD BOY and he's pretty much housebroken. He loves to go on walks and took his first bath like a champ. He also gets along just fine with his resident dog and cat siblings. Adopt his goofball muppet baby! Mishka is a 6-month, 7-pound female chiweenie puppy. This sweet girl travelled from Texas to find her furever home. Mishka is pretty fearful of the sights and sounds of the busy city and prefers to be indoors looking out from the windowsill although she loves the local garden in her neighborhood. She is wee pad trained, but still working on going potty outside. Mishka is as loveable and cuddly as she is timid. She loves pretty much all dogs and enjoys meeting and playing with other pups, but is friendlier and happier hanging out at a park rather than walking around the NYC streets. Who couldn't love that gorgeous underbite?! Soy is a 6-year-old neutered male Chihuahua mix, who came to us from the city shelter.  Soy is a lovable little pup. When his foster first got him, he was the most awkward cuddler- he would plop his head on your lap with his butt up in the air, rigid as a statue. These days, he stretches to his full length to reach your hands for pets while you're standing. When you're laying he'll plop his whole body. He doesn't like to be carried by strangers but once he bonds with you he'll pretty much let you do just about anything. He's a little sensitive about his paws, but he'll even let you know grab those if he likes you.. With other dogs, he's a treat- he usually lets others take the lead and will feed off the energy of the other dog. He's quite the sniffer, but he'll come if beckoned, and he's pretty brilliant for his age. He picks up on things quick and won't have an issue adjusting to most lifestyles, however, we would recommend someone semi active as he gets stir crazy if left alone for too long. Overall, he's a sociallite and will be the perfect dog for the person that enjoys weekend drives to parks, or the casual walker who enjoys sitting at a dog run.
