About Little Man!

Adoption Fee: $400

Little Man is a 6 year old, 17 pound male chihuahua mix who arrived from Tijuana in July. He came into rescue when his military owner had to move away. Little Man is a very special all-around great and sweet dog! A couple weeks after he arrived he was sadly diagnosed with a heart condition and he is looking for a special friend who is around a lot and can follow his medication schedule and really pamper him with love. Full health disclosure - the specialist we took him to gave him up to a year to live, but we are very hopeful after seeing him really blossoming in his foster home after he got started on the medications two months ago. On his last appointment he had improved so much that he can wait 3 months for his next follow-up with the cardiologist.

Little Man is very calm and gentle and spends most of the day sleeping. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you around like a shadow. He likes to snuggle up next to you, but is also independent enough that he will retreat to his bed and sleep through the night in his own space. Because of his condition, he needs to stay low activity - he's happy going for short walks around the block on his own pace. He's very mellow and doesn't really bark, though when his person returns home, he will run laps around the apartment, wagging his tail like crazy while making happy squeaky sounds! He is a funny little one, and will also have a few spikes of energy throughout the day where he loves to play fetch with his toys! He can howl and cry a bit when his favorite people leave him alone for too long - he would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home! He's at his happiest when he is napping the day away in close proximity to his people. He walks great on a leash and is calm around other dogs, and does well with cats also. He's a smart one who learns easily, and is very food motivated! He's pee pad trained within a small area (such as a playpen.) Some of the heart medications he is on are diuretics which means he drinks a lot of water and needs the bathroom frequently. In his foster home, he goes to the backyard door to signal that he needs to pee (about every 2 hours when he is awake.)

Medication details: Currently, Little Man is prescribed 4 different heart medications. 3 of them needs to be given twice a day (every 12 hours). 1 of them needs to be given three times a day (every 8 hours).

Vaccinated for dhpp and rabies. Neutered and microchipped.

Hazelnut is a 4ish-years, 12-pounds male chihuahua/corgi mix. If you're looking for a trusty sidekick, he's your guy! His favorite past-time is taking a walk outside with his people - he is a dream on leash and does his business quickly. Don't let Hazelnut's small size fool you - he'll give any intruders a good bark! Hazelnut is slowly coming out of his shell and learning to be a bit more confident, but needs a patient adopter who moves at his speed! His latest accomplishments include mastering the stairs and learning to love his crate. Hazelnut now sleeps quietly through the night and hangs out in his bungalow while his foster humans work. He has made lots of progress in the week he's been here and we look forward to seeing him grow in his forever home!  Vaccinated for rabies, bordetella, and dhpp. Neutered but needs microchip. Muffin is an approximately 5 month old male black and white dsh that came to us from the Animal Medical Center.  Muffin was dropped off at AMC about 2 months ago by a good Samaritan who found him on the road with an obvious leg and eye injury. He had a partial degloving wound on his right hind limb, which has since been closed and healed. He also had a right tibial fracture and femoral fracture that did not require fixation. Muffin is a very healthy cat otherwise.  Though a little shy, Muffin is super sweet and affectionate once he knows you. He LOVES other cats so we're looking for a home with another cat for him. Muffin will require some socialization at the beginning to help him feel comfortable around his new home. Muffin is FeLV/FIV snap negative and has been dewormed. His vaccines are up to date.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Ruthie (fka Sweet Pea) is a tough little 2ish-years, 8-pounds female (maybe setter/shih tzu?) mix. Brought into the city shelter as a stray, she is curious but very fearful. Ruthie has been in foster care for a week and has made some great progress. She LOVES to be pet but cautiously - craving human affection - but is skeptical. Ruthie follows her foster humans all over the house, but runs away if approached too quickly, and isn't ready to be picked up yet. If her humans are sitting on the couch, she eventually comes and sits near them and is slowly sitting on our laps. Ruthie is super smart (learned her name and potty in one day) and feels safe and comfortable in her crate. This gorgeous spotted girl is quiet and crate-trained and also uses pee pads. Her foster family has an outdoor enclosed courtyard so she does go potty outside, but nips when we tried to put a leash on her. Ruthie is a potential flight risk and not ready to go for walks yet. She has lots of trust to learn and confidence to build, but she is sweet and even playful (at times) with her own toys. Try not to judge her by her recent haircut because she's self-conscious about it, but by her inner beauty. Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative. Received rabies and bordetella vaccines, and first of two da2pp vaccines (needs 2nd).  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Snow is 2ish-years, 10-pounds male chihuahua mix from the Brooklyn animal shelter. He is a sweet companion but a bit shy initially. Snow is affectionate and loving once he gains your trust. This clingy little boy is weary in unfamilar places, but quietly sits in a safe lap or in his open-door crate (he'll go in on his own, but afraid to be put in by someone). Snow is medium to high energy, plays and behaves as normal as any other adorable cutie would! He walks well on a leash and is getting the hang of house-training. He was previously in foster care with other dogs and cats - fine with dogs (and older kids) but not thrilled about the cat. Snow needs a family who can be patient with his guarding issues and fear of new people.  Vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and 1 dhpp. Neutered and microchipped. Stormi is a 8ish-year-old, 14 lb schnazuer mix (maybe some dachshund?). This sweet girl is a ball of uber-friendly active, well-behaved and loving scruff! With her big soulful eyes and her droopy ears and beard, she looks like a dog from an old Disney movie who gets lost, had an adventure, and then ends up in a loving home with her new family sleeping by the fire on a huge pillow. That could be you! Stormi loves her people and always wants to be in sight of them, so if you're a household of more than one, she will always be trying to find the best spot to lie down and keep an eye on everyone. She also sleeps in her own bed at night and spends a lot of time in the various beds around the house instead of getting up on the sofa. She is getting along really well with her grumpy foster brother and knows when to give him space. She LOVES her walks and bounds into the air when you pick up her leash and trots like a pro on the street. She is fully housetrained, enjoys a house full of people, greets everyone who stops on the street with an offer to pet her and loves other dogs. Hold on tight to that leash, because she wants to say hello to everyone!   Received rabies, da2pp, bordatella vaccines. Heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed. ZAR is a 2ish-years, 7-pounds male chihuahua mix. Zar is a very polite, quiet and shy gentlemen who will do everything possible to get his persons affection. He is a total snuggle bug and prefers cuddling above all.  He loves to give little kisses and likes other dogs (loves his foster sister). You'll never see a happier tail wagging!  He does well in his crate and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He is super chill and low key but he also loves going for walks and does a happy dance as soon as he gets outside into fresh air.  right now he is still easily scared by city noises, fast walkers and lumbering men but he's learning to adjust to big city living. Up to date on DA2PP, bordetella and rabies vaccinations. Heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails!
