About Cooper

Adoption Fee: $400

Cooper is 8-pound, 9ish year old male chihuahua mix from Texas (His records say 11yrs old, but his vets think otherwise). He is such a loving boy and eager to please. He has adjusted very well to the city and walks well on leash, is fully housebroken, a cuddler, loves people, and is good with dogs and children. However, he has severe separation anxiety. His mom adopted him in June and has worked on training and vet prescribed medication, but he still howls when left alone even for a bit. She is heart broken at having to give him up, but has no choice because she lives in an apartment building in NYC and has had multiple complaints from her neighbors. He needs to be in a home where someone is around all day or ideally in a house outside the city where it won't bother anyone if he cries when alone. Do help this handsome boy find his new forever home!

Neutered, had a dental cleaning 6 months ago, microchipped and up to date on shots.

Bobbie is 2ish-years, 10-pounds mix (maybe schnauzer/terrier?) surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter now in our care. He's a little nervous and takes a bit of time to warm up to people - but once he does he’s fiercely loyal and protective. Outside, Bobbie is all business and considers it his solemn duty to lead you back home for some zoomies around the house, a pit stop at the pee pad, and then directly into a warm lap or a cozy blanket. This pint-sized sherpa can seem aggressive to strangers, so his pawrents need to be prepared to calm his territorial tendencies. When Bobbie is out with his dog friends, he prefers to keep his distance and appreciates when they keep theirs. He is a loveable scruffy little guy though! Vaccinated for bordatella, dhpp, rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Brenda is a 10ish-month old, 10-pound female terrrier/pekingnese mix. This little super star is energetic and playful - and look at that gorgeous underbite! Brenda is easy-going and loves everyone - dogs and kids. She happily plays inside with toys or her foster fur-sister or outside (especially fetch and she drops the ball every so sweetly). Brenda is sweet-natured with lots of personality and loves attention - she settled into her foster home very quickly. Brenda is looking for a family that is home during the day to be active with, or another playful dog to keep her busy. She is not thrilled being left alone for long periods of time and is learning to go potty outside - making lots of progress. Brenda walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. She also is crate-trained and sleeps all night without a peep! Vaccinated, spayed, microchipped. Esmé is a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer mix who is currently 6 months old and about 22 lbs. She is spayed and microchipped. Esmé is almost house trained (occasional pee accidents), mostly crate trained (occasional barking) and knows many basic commands. She is sweet, loving and cuddly when she is not guarding. She responds well to positive training and can be lured away from objects with treats. However, if pushed passed her threshold she may bite. Esmé is looking for an experienced owner who is willing to work with her resource guarding issue. Please send an application to Waggytail if interested. Sweet Gordo was rescued from a hoarder's house. About 11 year old mix breed that weighs 23.6 lbs. He has early cataracts in both eyes so maybe his hesitation to walk around is due to some vision impairment although vet thinks he can see well enough to get around.  He was really scared when he first came in to us but he's come out of his shell and is so so gentle.  You can do anything to him he doesn't mind but he's still cautious.  He has a heart murmur.  He is not neutered. His teeth have some plaque but not terrible. He also has mild arthritis in his hip joints.   We'd love to find him a patient forever home, but we would consider foster to adopt. He does need a new foster who can give him eyed drops every 4 to 6 hours.  This is TRULY a rescue dog! Here's Jacko! A 7ish-years, 10-pound male chihuahua mix. He is low-key and quiet and a really good little guy once he is feeling safe and secure, but needs a bit of time to warm up. His hobbies mainly include napping. Jacko is healthy and house-trained and also loves going on walks. He loves people (after he gets to know them) and hanging out but gets barky on leash walks near other dogs (best in a home w/ no dogs). He takes a bit of time to warm up to you, but he is a good little guy!  He's presently living with an old cat who he barked alot at initially but is now  starting to tolerate it from 8 feet away.  His current foster says he's really awesome but just has his idiosycracies and once you know them it's easy to work around it. Jacko needs a patient, experienced foster or adopter who will understand that his heart is as cute and sweet as his appearance, and is willing to work with him. Jacko is up to date on shots, microchipped, and neutered. Judge is 2ish-year old, 13-pounds male miniature pinscher mix. He is a happy, playful little guy who is also equally sweet and affectionate! Judge is great with other dogs (especially the resident frenchie in the photo) sometimes he gets a little mouthy and excited when he plays - but not at all aggressive. He has medium to high energy and walks pretty well, but could use some reinforcement on leash skills. This gorgeous boy is house-trained and sleeps perfectly contently in a crate all night. He really enjoys long walks with his humans and foster fur-brother. Look at those ears! Because Judge is very active, we're looking to place him in a home with another dog. Received rabies, bordetella and dhpp vaccines. Neutered and micro-chipped. Little Man is a 6 year old, 17 pound male chihuahua mix who arrived from Tijuana in July. He came into rescue when his military owner had to move away. Little Man is a very special all-around great and sweet dog! A couple weeks after he arrived he was sadly diagnosed with a heart condition and he is looking for a special friend who is around a lot and can follow his medication schedule and really pamper him with love. Full health disclosure - the specialist we took him to gave him up to a year to live, but we are very hopeful after seeing him really blossoming in his foster home after he got started on the medications two months ago. On his last appointment he had improved so much that he can wait 3 months for his next follow-up with the cardiologist.  Little Man is very calm and gentle and spends most of the day sleeping. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you around like a shadow. He likes to snuggle up next to you, but is also independent enough that he will retreat to his bed and sleep through the night in his own space. Because of his condition, he needs to stay low activity - he's happy going for short walks around the block on his own pace. He's very mellow and doesn't really bark, though when his person returns home, he will run laps around the apartment, wagging his tail like crazy while making happy squeaky sounds! He is a funny little one, and will also have a few spikes of energy throughout the day where he loves to play fetch with his toys! He can howl and cry a bit when his favorite people leave him alone for too long - he would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home! He's at his happiest when he is napping the day away in close proximity to his people. He walks great on a leash and is calm around other dogs, and does well with cats also. He's a smart one who learns easily, and is very food motivated! He's pee pad trained within a small area (such as a playpen.) Some of the heart medications he is on are diuretics which means he drinks a lot of water and needs the bathroom frequently. In his foster home, he goes to the backyard door to signal that he needs to pee (about every 2 hours when he is awake.) Medication details: Currently, Little Man is prescribed 4 different heart medications. 3 of them needs to be given twice a day (every 12 hours). 1 of them needs to be given three times a day (every 8 hours).  Vaccinated for dhpp and rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Sadie is 11 ish-months, 25-pounds female dachshund/lab mix. This sweet girl is so happy and gentle - she was found as a stray in Texas before coming into our care. She has mastered going potty outside but is still learning the concept of leash-walking as she's quite strong and pulls hard.  Sadie is pretty smart (the lab part of her) and learned 'sit' pretty quickly. She is playful and really enjoys the dog park, and is great with people and kids but a little shy initially. Sadie is also a great traveler in the car! Such a silly girl as you can see by these photos! She would do best in an active home with a yard and another dog to play with. Sissy is 8ish-years, 8-pounds female chihuahua mix who just flew in from Texas to NYC. She is snuggly and cuddly and pretty much an indoor dog. Miss Sissy is fully wee pad trained and not at all familar with the city sights and sounds, which are scary to her. This teeny mini german shepherd look-alike will sit happily with her human in the park, but is not a fan of walking around the busy streets. Sissy barks a bit at new people but warms up quickly especially with treats. If you are looking for a pocket-sized home-body dog, this is your girl! Vaccinated but needs microchip and spay. Snow is 2ish-years, 10-pounds male chihuahua mix from the Brooklyn animal shelter. Affectionately named Bones by his foster humans, he is a sweet companion! Still a bit fearful after only a week, Bones cowers at times but is really loving and affectionate and prefers to be on your lap or by your side. He walks well on a leash. Snow aka Bones is agile and smart enough to have figured out doggy stairs in his first week. He lives with resident dogs and cats and no issues there thus far. Snow is reportedly fearful of being crated - pre-Waggytail care - from it being used as punishment. Hasn't quite mastered potty training but is learning!  Vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and 1 out of 2 rounds of dhpp (needs 2nd round). Neutered and microchipped.
