About Nugget

Hi, my name is Nugget.  I was Louise when arrived in the USA from China.   I didn’t have the best life before being rescued but thankfully I was rescued and I got my freedom flight to the United States on 11/6.  I am a little smaller than the average golden, just 45 pounds. My foster family thinks I was meant to get bigger because I have super big floppy ears and large paws but the vet says I am done growing. I didn’t get a lot of human attention before being rescued but I am making up for that now. I can be a little shy at first but I warm up to people really quickly. I play well with other dogs and toys but if a human is available to pet and love me, I much prefer that.

The vet thinks I am around 2 years old but I am basically a puppy at heart. My foster family has been working with me on basic commands and manners and my foster mom thinks I am very smart so she doesn’t think it will be very hard for me to be a well trained dog.  I have caught on quickly!  I am also LOVE food and I will do anything for a treat.

I do good around kids but I will sometimes use my mouth to ask for attention (I like to put your hand in my mouth when you aren’t looking but I don’t bite down!). My foster family is trying to break that habit but I might still need some help. This is very typical of Golden puppy behavior so I'll learn it's not really appreciated.  Because I crave so much human attention and I still need help with my training, my foster parents say I need a family that has a lot of time to devote to me.   I had a few accidents when I first came to my foster family but I think I am potty trained now. I am crate trained and do well in a crate when the humans aren’t home. I walk well on a leash and like to go on walks to the park. I do not have any experience with cats.

If you have lots of love and time for me and you have an approved application on file, please email Marcie.  I am being fostered on the east side of Indianapolis.

PLEASE NOTE: Emails to the foster contact listed above will only be answered if you have an APPROVED application on file with GRRACE. Requests for information from non-approved applicants will not be answered. If you'd like to adopt from GRRACE in the future, we encourage you to submit an Application as the approval process can take 1-3 weeks. I’m Piper, a very petite (45 lb.) 11 month old girl with a beautiful lustrous red coat. I am spayed, micro-chipped, and current on all my vaccinations. I’m housebroken and have been a very good house dog in my foster home. I am a bit shy and have led a somewhat sheltered life. I would love to have more positive experiences just to build my confidence!  I am still working on basic commands but would benefit greatly from basic obedience training. I will flourish with each positive experience I have – I’m ready to be all that I can be!  Did I mention I am a love sponge and adore snuggling?  I am high energy when there’s room to run and enjoy chasing after birds & critters in the big yard at my foster home, but I settle beautifully once I’ve had enough exercise. I just learned that I love chasing Frisbees – I’m a Fly Girl!  Because I'm a Fly Girl, I must have a yard with a structural fence.   I do love being around my family, and being separated is hard for me. I may kick up a little fuss, but I eventually settle. My original family said I get along with other dogs and kids, but because of my energy and need for training, I would do best in a home with older children and gentle dogs. My foster family has a cat, and I haven't learned how to safely play with the cat, so cats are probably a no-no.  I must say that I don’t care too much for my crate, but my foster family thinks I don't need one because I haven't been destructive or gotten into any trouble.   I'm still a puppy so I have lots to learn, but I promise to give back every ounce of training and love invested in me!
