About Gabby

The nitty gritty on Gabby: 9 years old. 12 pounds. Miniature Poodle blend. Blind female. Energetic. Best in a home with other dogs or someone home more often than not. Meet Gabby. Her motto might be: ‘What I lack in sight, I make up for in heart.’ Gabby is a sweet little lady just wanting to love and be loved. She didn’t have the easiest life prior to coming to PPR, and despite having lost her vision, she’s now a very happy and active girl. She’s full of energy – just call her the dog version of the energizer bunny! You would never know Gabby is a senior citizen. She loves being petted and loved on, wagging her tail and even rolling over for belly rubs. She gets along well with other dogs and children and is very friendly and vocal. Gabby navigates the house and yard well and is very good at following by sound. She may walk into things but she bounces right off them and keeps going. This little sweetheart is happy just to be by your side and on her special blanket that she settles down on when she’s relaxing.

Gabby loves to eat…in fact, her foster mom calls her an “enthusiastic eater”! Feel free to be her seeing eye person by taking her out on walks because she loves them. She’s also housetrained. Gabby would be best in a home with other dogs or where someone is home more often than not as she isn't crazy about being alone. Not any different from any of us getting older, Gabby is on a medication for life - she needs daily medicated eye drops. Also, a one level home without stairs would be best suited for her so she can maneuver around safely. If this loving sweetie sounds like someone who belongs right by your side, we’d love to hear more about you and have you fill out an adoption application. Gabby is fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and is ready for her forever home. Her adoption donation is $225.

Fast facts on Clover: 10 years old. 7 pounds. Friendly Chihuahua girl. Happy girl with some spinal cord damage. Diapers are advised. Loves affection. Always up for an adventure out of the house. Meet Clover. A best friend is like a four leaf “Clover” – hard to find and lucky to have. This might just be your lucky day! Clover is a friendly and happy girl that enjoys snuggling up close to her person on the sofa. Her favorite place to sleep at night is under the covers in the people bed. She loves getting petted and rubbed…when you stop, she takes her paw and puts it on your arm to let you know she wants more.  Clover loves to sunbathe in the yard. She gets along with other dogs really well. She makes a great sidekick as she’s always up for an adventure and ready to join you as you head out the door. She rides nicely in her car seat or in store shopping carts. Due to an old back injury, there are times when her back left leg muscles don’t work so well but she doesn’t let that stop her from getting where she wants to go. She’s able to take short walks, but if you want to take a longer walk, she’ll happily sit in the doggy stroller. Clover’s old injury caused some spinal cord damage so she doesn’t always have full control of her bladder and bowels. Her foster mom uses diapers just in case, but most of the time they are dry as she’s pretty much housetrained. Clover will need a family that will change her diaper and express her bladder a couple times a day. Don't worry...it's super easy to learn how and she doesn't mind at all. If you are a big hearted person who is up for giving this special girl a nice cozy home and receiving some unconditional love back, what are you waiting for? You gotta home we gotta dog. Fill out an adoption application and let’s see if there’s a match. Clover is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for her forever home. Her adoption donation is $200. show less

The bare bones on Cora: 7 years old. 20 pounds. Parson Russell Terrier blend girl. Friendly, affectionate, loves everyone. Playful. Not a fan of big dogs. Meet Cora. This adorable girl has two settings: 1. Fun and 2. More fun. This joyful girl is a lover and a snuggler and loves men, women and kids. You won’t find a better family dog. Cora gives kisses and will lean into you for affection. A very happy, waggy, cuddly girl, she’s great with small dogs and cats, but dogs bigger than her make her uneasy so she’s best in a household without them. Cora is full of life, loves to play, loves to run and is ready to rest when you’re hitting the couch. She’s great in the car too and seems to enjoy watching all the people and cars pass by. Talk about house manners….hers are perfect. There’s no need to block her off into any area of the home since she is 100% housetrained. She’s got the most adorable look with her little underbite, and she has so much love to offer to some very lucky family. If you can see yourself bringing this bundle of pure joy into your home and taking her on adventures with you, what are you waiting for? You gotta home, we gotta dog. Fill out an adoption application and let’s see if there’s a match. Cora is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, just had her teeth polished and is ready for her forever home. Cotton is a 1 1/2 year old, 60-pound Labrador Retriever and American bulldog blend boy. This young boy is as sweet as can be! Cotton has never met a stranger – he is super friendly and greets everyone he meets like a long lost friend. You won’t want to miss out on one of Cotton’s famous doggie kisses – this gentleman just has so much love to give! Cotton enjoys spending time outdoors: going for a walk, playing in the backyard, or simply laying on the porch and soaking up the sun. Cotton is still a young boy so loves playtime and has plenty of energy for long walks. After a good play session, Cotton turns into quite the snuggle bug – he loves to cuddle up beside you on the couch, or bury himself in a cozy blanket on a comfy dog bed. Cotton gets along well with other dogs, big or small. He is a playful, young guy who isn't always quite aware of his size, so he would do best with another doggie mate that does not mind his playful nature. Cotton would also be very content as your one and only pet. Cotton is deaf, but he is very attentive to his people and is learning to respond to hand signals, so his hearing deficit does not slow him down one bit. Being the young guy that he is, Cotton is still polishing some of his manners. He is also still learning to stay home along for extended periods of time, so someone who can be home more often would be a plus for Cotton. Fun-loving Cotton would make a wonderful addition to any family! Cotton is housetrained, heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for his forever home. His adoption donation is $225 and will include three training sessions with a qualified force-free trainer.  show less

The down low on Denny: 10 years old. 26 pounds. Dapper Lhasa Apso and Maltese blend boy. Sweetheart. Great companion. Quiet. The perfect gentleman. Meet Denny. He may be older but he got to see all the cool bands and he’s still got his groove on. This little gent will warm your heart with his easygoing disposition and sweet nature. He has really nice house manners and is good with other dogs. It takes a while for Denny to come out of his shell. Once he does he is the perfect companion dog and likes to be near his person, so you’ll never have to worry about going it alone. Oh, and hint, hint - if you want to make a good first impression, his foster mom says he must have squeaky toys and a plush large dog bed! Denny rides in the car well and is just a lovable, very easy to handle, friendly, calm, and sweet boy. He’s the perfect companion for someone who wants a senior that still has some pep in his step. He is housebroken. If you think this little stud muffin would look good next to you in your upcoming selfies, what are you waiting for? You gotta home, we gotta dog. The doggy data on Dusty: 9 years old. 12 pounds. Doxie and Terrier blend boy. Sweet and gentle. Really likes cats. Loves toys. Meet Dusty. When we asked him what kind of person he’s looking for, here’s what he told us: “You are nice, loving and easygoing. You are happy going out to meet friends or spending a lazy Sunday morning curled up in bed with your iPad and a cup of coffee. And singing to the radio while you're driving, well that’s a plus. If this sounds like you, I want to meet you!”. Dusty is a dashing boy who loves to cuddle. He’s so good natured and mellow. He’s great around seniors. He loves his toys and shares well with other dogs. Speaking of other dogs, he gets along great with them and he has a particular interest in cats. Dusty is good on a leash. We don’t know firsthand about his interaction with kids, but with his docile and patient nature would assume he would be gentle.   Dusty wouldn’t ever pass up a treat so make sure that treat jar is filled up at your house. He’s such a polite, loving, happy boy. He does need some work on housebreaking skills – in his former home he used a doggy door so he’s not used to holding it. Plan on working with him in that area. If your heart is ready to be filled up a little bit more with some unconditional love, what are you waiting for? You gotta home we gotta dog. The scoop on Hot Pocket: 8 weeks old. Under 2 pounds. Tiny Chihuahua puppy. Kissy, playful, squirmy, happy boy. Due to medical conditions he requires a very specific type of home - experienced owners, someone home most of the time (he can't be left alone for an 8 hr work day), no small children, no large dogs or aggressive cats, parents who won't scold him for accidents, parents willing to give him meds if needed, a family who will make his safety their priority. Do you fit this ridiculously long list of requirements? Then keep reading! Hot Pocket has no symptoms of his conditions now, but might later in life - he may never be fully housetrainable and may need seizure medication. Right now, Hot Pocket is like any other puppy you meet, but much cuter. This very tiny Chi puppy has an open fontanel (soft spot, hole in the skull), therefore dropping him could be fatal. He's also hydrocephalic (water on the brain), which could lead to seizures later in life. And he has strabismus, a condition causing eye misalignment, which is common and asymptomatic except that Hot Pocket won't be able to read for long periods of time. If you’re thinking “I’ve got to meet this baby boy” then we want to meet you. Fill out an adoption application and let’s talk. Hot Pocket has had his first round of puppy shots and needs to be adopted locally so he can complete his puppy vetting – vaccines, neuter and microchip -- which are included in his adoption donation of $225.   show less

The basics on Leo: 13 years old. 13 pounds. 13 kinds of loveable Peekapoo boy. Sweet. Happy. Friendly. Good with cats, dogs and kids. On medication for a heart condition. Meet Leo. If you’re a snow bird, waiting for your snow bunny, well here he is! Leo's owners boarded him, then never returned. He's a senior gent on heart medicine. Does he look sad? Nope. Depressed? Nope. Excited for his new life with you? Yep! How long will he live? We don’t know  - maybe 6 months, maybe 3 years. But we promise that Leo will do his best to live forever if you give him the life he deserves. He’s such a loving boy and is going to bring pure joy to one lucky family. Leo lived with a cat before so he’s great with them, and also gets along with other dogs and definitely likes kids…he’d fit in with just about any family. Leo needs someone to spoil him for the time he has left which may be quite a long time. He’s housebroken but needs to be let outside frequently due to one of his medications. With boys you can use belly bands so it makes it so much easier. If you can see yourself posting pics of this very special gent all over your social media, what are you waiting for? You gotta home, we gotta dog. Fill out an adoption application and let’s see if there’s a match. Leo is heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for his forever home. The Furry Facts on this Free Spirited Dude: 2 years old. 51 pounds. Standard Poodle boy. Needs a fenced in yard. Meet Maverick! Like the famous big wave spot off the California coast, this gnarly logger will have you shouting “COWABUNGA!” Standing at 26 inches tall, this steel gray, hunk, hunk of burning love will steal your heart. Just out of his puppy stage he still loves being loved on. Hugs, neck scratches, and all the petting your hands can give, he’ll lap it up! It’s all fun in the sun for this boy! When Maverick first came to PPR he suffered seizures, since being in our care he’s been taking medicine for them and they are under control. You’ll need to commit to continuing with this medication. Hang loose dawg, no time for wipeouts here, this gentle giant is ready to surf the roads whether by leash or car as your ride along sidekick! He can be your one & only but has no qualms playing second fiddle as long as his canine buddy is at least 35 pounds or more. This irresistible freedom loving pooch can get a bit amped while playing, so he’ll need a mate that can handle him. Little Wahines have nothing to fear, Maverick’s no shark. He’s a grommet looking to keep those good vibrations happening. He enjoys chewing on rawhides &  learning new tricks. He knows how to shake, sit, and stay. He’s one bodacious pooch! Best for this dude not to be around small children, rather he needs a human who's experienced with large dogs. Maverick is house trained. Maxwell is a 7-year-old, 42-pound Labrador Retriever and Beagle blend boy.  Maxwell is a guy who likes to take it slow. It takes a little bit of time for him to form relationships with people and he can be shy. He is still working on meeting and bonding with people, but has made remarkable progress since being in our care. So much progress he has stunned us all! Once you've earned Maxwell's trust, the rewards are great. He's a very gentle, quiet, and attentive dog, who absolutely adores the one he's deemed to be his person. Maxwell's favorite thing in the whole wide world - beside food and yummy treats of course - is playing with his dog buddies. He loves the company of other large, playful dogs - especially females. Together with his dog buddies, Maxwell loves to fetch, role in the grass, and play tag. Maxwell comes to us from a hoarding situation, where he was not given much exposure to the outside world, so most experiences are still new and scary to Maxwell. He is working on gaining confidence in the world and has spent several months in a board-and-train program with a professional, positive-reinforcement based dog trainer. Maxwell has made great strides, but because he is still a bit insecure, he will need to find a home with someone who can continue to help him build his confidence, keep up his training, and meet him with lots of love and patience. We know this all may sound like a lot, but Maxwell promises he is worth it! Maxwell is housetrained, heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He is ready for his forever home and hoping that his perfect forever family is out there! Maxwell is free to adopt or eligible for our Furever Foster program. His adoption will include a training package with a qualified force-free trainer in the adopter's area. Maxwell may also be considered for adoption outside the state of Florida. show less

Just the facts on Oscar: 1 year old Lab blend boy. Smart. Energetic and playful. Would thrive in a household with active dogs his size or bigger. Good with older kids (teens & up). Needs frequent exercise or a large area to run in. No small dogs. No cats. Meet Oscar. Labracadabra! Poof...your new BFF has appeared! He’s related to Al Cabone, his favorite rapper is LL Drool J and he donates to Kickstarters just to brag about it on Twitter. But that’s not the important stuff. Oscar is an energetic and smart pup who talks a lot, likes to play doggy games, and absolutely loves frisbees. He really enjoys walks and gets super excited about them. High on his list is nibbling on nylabones and cardboard boxes.  He does really well with bigger dogs that will romp around and play with him. Oscar needs a home where he’s the only dog or the smaller of two dogs.  His new owner will be dedicated to getting him exercise both morning and night and sometimes in between – he has energy to burn! A Peek into Pixie: 9 years old. 5 pounds (4 lbs of which are attitude - in typical chi fashion). Sassy Chihuahua girl. Likes to snuggle. Enjoys being carried. No small children due to her tiny size. Meet Pixie.  She’s mostly toothless so her tongue hangs out which makes her adorable.  She’s spicy and likes to be the boss.  Her favorite activities are eating, napping, and telling everyone what to do.  She “talks” to you and the more frustrated she gets when you don’t listen, the louder she’ll get.  Why walk anywhere when you can be carried?  Pixie enjoys sunbathing and laying on the hot pavers, but when that gets too much even for her, she’ll walk over to the nearest person sitting in the shade and curl up to her tiniest self and snuggle into a lap.  Pixie loves comfy beds and fuzzy blankets, and when she feels adventurous she spends a few minutes building a tunnel in her blanket and then burrows into it even deeper. She gets along fine with other dogs and probably cats too. She shouldn’t be around small children because she’s so tiny and her back legs are not the best. If this feisty little lady sounds like someone you’d like to have as your new sidekick, what are you waiting for? Riley in a nutshell: 7-yr-old, 15 lb, blind Pomeranian-Chihuahua blend girl is laid back, quiet, and independent. Needs a house where she is the only dog. No small children or house with pool. Riley is not one of those sappy lap dogs, barking, kicking up a fuss, and losing all dignity. This little lady is calm, cool, and collected. She is a little shy at first, but loves people and happily wags her tail and perks her ears up when meeting someone new or when visitors come to your home. Riley is very quiet and rarely barks so she’d do well in an apartment or condo. Since she is blind, she is a bit cautious, so she’d do best in a home with no children or older children. And though she’s independent, she insists on being your one and only. Riley will be happiest in a home where she’s the only pet so you can’t share your love with anyone but her. She is pee-pad trained and loves to go on walks and car rides. Actually, she’s crazy about car rides and when you ask, “Riley, want to take a trip in the car?” her ears perk up and she’s ready to ride. She loves to go on walks and is a sweet companion. She has gorgeous honey-colored wavy hair and loves to have her hair brushed. Since she is blind, she can only go to a one-story home with no pool. If you can see yourself loving sweet girl, what are you waiting for? You gotta home, we gotta dog. Fill out an adoption application and let’s see if there’s a match. The stats on Squeaky: 3 years old. 50 pounds. Hound blend cutie patootie girl. Happy and friendly. Lots of love to give. Best in a home with someone home most of the time. Meet Squeaky. Does a life time of unconditional cuddles sound good to you? Are you tired of begging for a dog’s affection? Well here is the dog for you! And while there’s no way to officially prove it, we are convinced she’s also part teddy bear because this little girl loves to snuggle. Squeaky is great with other dogs and cats -  she’s currently in foster care with two small senior dogs and has been very kind and gentle with them. This four-legged bundle of squishes is just as happy playing fetch outside as she is snuggled next to any person with a heartbeat.  Squeaky was found wandering the streets all alone with a broken leg. She quickly made her way to PPR where she’s been able to rest and relax in foster care and heal her leg. Now, this girl is ready to strut her stuff on the sidewalk with you by her side. Squeaky is on the lookout for a home with a fenced yard. She is such an affectionate little lady, she would do best with someone home most of the time. She's fully housebroken. This smart cookie also knows basic commands. She can sit, stay, give paw, drop it, and is also working on her leash training. If you can see yourself stylin’ around with this gorgeous girl and showing her off to the world, what are you waiting for? Tilly is a 10-year-old, 62-pound Blue Tick Coon Hound girl. Our silly Tilly is such a sweetheart! Tilly originally came to us as part of a hoarding case, where she was locked away in a crate for most of her life. Now we are happy to say that Tilly has traded her crate for a cozy spot on the couch. She is loving her new life lounging on the coziest dog beds! Tilly is a happy-go-lucky girl. She enjoys going for leisurely walks, or roaming around the backyard, exploring wherever her hound dog nose takes her. Tilly recently discovered the joy of playing with dog toys. She now cannot get enough of little squeaky toys and it is so cute to see her getting all excited. The way to Tilly’s heart definitely includes food. She recently had a dental cleaning, where we had to extract several of her teeth, but that has not diminished her appetite. Tilly can still eat kibble and you will never hear her say no to any treat you offer her. Bananas are her favorite snack in the world. Tilly gets along very well with other dogs big or small, as long as they respect her space. She is never aggressive, but may get vocal if they come up to her too quickly. Sweet Tilly is mostly housetrained, however she does tend to have to go to the bathroom quickly after eating, so you will just have to make sure mealtime is quickly followed by a pottybreak. Tilly is a mellow, loving lady who is looking for a cozy place to enjoy her golden days. Tilly has completed heartworm treatment, is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, and recently had her teeth polished. Her adoption donation is $250.   show less
