About Homer

Adoption Fee: $200 for Senior Dogs

Dog Name: Homer *Available for our $200 Senior Fee*
Suspected Breed(s): Lemon Hound
Gender: Male
Age: 8 years old
Weight: 62 lbs
Personality: Easygoing, funny, trainable, goofy, eager to please, friendly, gentle, quiet, calm, smart, affectionate
Observations with Dogs: Homer is good with other dogs. When on walks he can’t help but whine to go meet other pups, but then all this goofy boy does is take a quick sniff and move on!
Observations with Cats: Homer ignores the cat in his foster home and would prefer a cat that will ignore him instead of trying to play.
Observations with Kids: He is gentle with kids, but noise and commotion cause him anxiety, so a home without children would be best.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Homer prefers not to be crated, but he is trusted to be uncrated in the house. In his current foster home, he sleeps on a dog bed in their bedroom.
Location: DC area foster home
Rescued From: Bladen County, NC
Additional Information: Looking for a long-eared goofball? Apply today to meet Homer! He is a handsome boy who loves a good scent and a good meal. This gentle giant seems to think he’s smaller than he is: at 66 lbs, he’d still love to crawl right up into your lap. Homer has a sweet, calm, and serious demeanor, but he also has playful moments—like tossing his head and putting on a real show for you. It’s quite a sight! His beautiful hound dog eyes and ears get him lots of attention while out on walks. Homer is very friendly, a good leash-walker, and meets dogs nicely on leash. He does have some anxiety and likes routines—always knowing when it's time to walk, eat, and nap. He sure loves to have lots of sniffs when he’s out and about. His favorite place to be is the woods – he loves to smell all the nature and go on long walks exploring the forest. At home, he gets super excited for dinner and leaps around and barks—especially if any of his favorites are on the menu—such as peanut butter, cheese, cabbage leaves and green beans! He is working on expanding his vocabulary to include “roll over” and “stay”, having already mastered “shake”, “sit”, and “down”. Homer is looking for a forever family that will adore him as much as he will adore them! (It is hard not to love this adorable, happy pooch!) Homer is not well suited to apartment living, and needs to be adopted to a single family home. Will you give Homer a home?

** Homer is sponsored by Kim Rueben as a gift to her nieces and nephews. Together they sponsored 3 dogs for CDR. Thank you Kim and family!

Wonderful Thad has been overlooked for over 450 days! Is it because of his ears that someone decided to crop on their own? Is it because he's a big boy? He is, but a VERY sweet and cuddly one. Name: Super Thad Suspected Breed(s): Boxer / American Bulldog mix Gender: Male Age: 4 years old Weight: 70 lbs Personality: Easygoing, friendly, snuggler, outgoing, good running or hiking partner, trainable, enrgetic, playful, active, happy, eager to please, smart! Observations with Dogs: Working on introductions on and off leash. He gets along with a variety of dogs but he can sometimes be selective about which dogs he likes. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Loves kids of all ages House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Untested. He is given free range of the house and does very well. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus Co, NC as part of our Hurricane Florence evacuation effort Additional Information: Thadeus is an awesome boy who loves to play and be close to his people. This handsome guy wants love from everyone. He is an unabashed snuggler who likes to lean in for pets. It’s hard to ever feel alone with Thad around. He is always very, very pleased to see you (he is working on calmer greetings with less jubilant jumping!). Thad is both a scholar and an athlete. He knows the words “Yes”, “Sit”, “Stay”, “Wait” and is making progress on “Off”. He plays like a pro and exercises a lot during the day. Prior to his rescue, this brave boy survived someone clipping his ears and rode out a hurricane in a shelter. Thad remains a confident, affectionate and patient companion, ready for a loving home and lots of cuddles. Apply today to meet Thad! Thad's video playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTvHnnlOjhESVQjpU-1i2prSYK5n8D_dE Super Thad aka Thadeus is named and sponsored by Sarah & Adam in honor of their wedding. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.
