About Raleigh (Has Application)

Adoption Fee: $200 for Senior Dogs

Dog Name: Raleigh
Suspected Breed(s): Bluetick Coonhound Mix
Gender: Female
Age: 7 years ** Available for senior adoption fee of $200 **
Weight: 60 lbs
Personality: Calm, patient, gentle, easygoing, funny, goofy, adaptable
Observations with Dogs: Raleigh loves to meet other dogs when out and about, but she sometimes needs help respecting other pups’ boundaries at home. She would do best as an only dog at home.
Observations with Cats: Raleigh would do best in a home without cats.
Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Raleigh is trusted to be uncrated during the day and she sleeps fine uncrated at night as long as she is kept to her regular feeding and walking schedule.
Location: DC area foster
Rescued From: Columbus County, NC
Additional Information: Raleigh has a quirky adorable charm that is all her own. This Southern girl will make you smile.

When Raleigh came to City Dogs Rescue in 2017, we knew she would get scooped up in a second with her adorable demeanor and goofy hound features. Unfortunately, some health issues have made it hard for her to find a perfect fit.

Raleigh has been with us for more than 800 days – will you be the lucky person who brings her into your home for a lifetime full of playing, smiling, and cuddling?

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful…City Dog
Raleigh’s foster parents have all marveled at how adaptable she is. At about 7 years old (we aren’t sure of her exact age), she has seen it all, and her affectionate demeanor shows that. She’s a low-energy pup who doesn’t need much exercise, and is happy to just follow you around the house or take a nap on the couch together.
While Raleigh can have some bossy behaviors with other dogs and at times try to resource guard bones, she loves the company of other dogs during walks, daycare, and in several foster homes. Raleigh is easygoing with dog and human guests.

Up for an Adventure
Raleigh is a true lapdog who is looking to spend her days curled up next to her human getting belly rubs, but she also jumps – literally! – at the chance to explore the outdoors. Her foster parents noted how wiggly and excited she gets for walks, taking small hikes around local trails, and even going kayaking! While she might not have the stamina for extensive hikes or runs due to her health history, she would be a great fit for anyone or any family who wants to get out of town and stretch their legs.

Seeking Her Own McDreamy
Raleigh has been through a lot, but she hasn’t let that get her down, and is looking for a forever home to keep her in good health and take care of her. This sweet patient has been successfully treated for heartworms as well as double hip dysplasia, and her foster was impressed at how quickly she recovered and learned how to take the stairs!
Raleigh still experiences some issues with her colon polyp disease, but she remains in good health and good spirits. A future foster or forever home will need to make sure they take her to regular vet appointments and are familiar with treatment.

Talking the Talk
Raleigh is a chatty Cathy. She loves loves loves to tell you all about her day, but her fosters have noted that her beagle-style baying has caused some issues with roommates or nearby neighbors. Whoever brings Raleigh into their family will need to have a deep appreciation for the dulcet tones of hounds and live in a place where her “singing” won’t disrupt others. Raleigh barks when her humans aren’t home and has some separation anxiety (we would too if we were in rescue for 800 days!), and will also bark for attention or to try to play with other dogs, but she doesn’t bark out of aggression or at her foster parents.

City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model).

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis.

Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a CAT: www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt-a-city-kitty.html City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
