Volunteer Opportunities

Waggytail Rescue is a small dog and cat 501(c)3 rescue based in New York City (NYC). We are dedicated to the rehabilitation and rehoming of small breed dogs and other animals in need. We do not have a physical shelter location. All of our animals are graciously fostered by our volunteers. Our volunteer opportunities include:

Transport Drivers: We frequently need people with cars to help us transport dogs/cats from various vet appointments, to their foster homes from transports, and to events. Drivers must upload a photo of their valid license below.
Adoption/Foster Application Checks: We need dedicated volunteers to help screen adoption and foster applications. These volunteers are the back bone of our organization! This role will include talking to the applicants, verifying their home is pet friendly, and chatting with their references. This is an at home way to help us place rescue animals into their temporary or forever homes. Applicants should be comfortable speaking on the phone.
Medical Volunteer: Those with veterinary experience are always needed in rescue. Medical volunteers help us implement protocols dictated by our vets, answer questions from fosters, and more.
Operations Volunteer: If you are an experienced dog or cat foster familiar with how to acclimate a new animal to your home and routine, we can use your help as a foster contact. Foster contacts guide new and old fosters through the decompression period of a new home and help vet potential applicants for each animal.
Photographers: If you have a professional camera, or if you know how to take great photos of wiggly animals, we'd love your help. Photographers may help out at our events, our transports, or at a one-on-one session with a foster.
Event Help: This may include helping volunteers set up / clean up, manning a donation table, collecting raffle tickets, greeting people at the door, etc. Our events are typically on the weekends in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

If you are approved, a Waggytail representative will work with you via email or phone to iron out logistics and to put you in contact with our volunteers/fosters.
All supplies and paperwork should remain with the dog and be passed on to the foster. They are the property of Waggytail and will be reused for the future.
