Hi!  My name is Buddy and me and my sister were picked up by animal control for the umpteenth time after our previous owner just let us roam.  After getting multiple citations, our owner decided just to sign us over and we ended up in a high kill shelter.  We were both super scared as we weren't even allowed to be in the same cell and as owner surrenders we were on top of the euthanization list.  Lucky for us, BCAA saw us and came and got us both!  Our foster mom thinks we will each do better finding our own forever homes as even though we get along great, we both want attention and we tend to crowd each other out. I love playing with the other big dogs here and I have gotten along with them as well have ignored those things called cats.  I'm learning about what a leash is all about and my foster mom says I'm much improved!  I have done really well in both a crate and my kennel with no accidents,  barking or tearing up of my bedding but I would much prefer to be out with you.  I love my food and treats (I'm a lab mix, of course I love my food!) and while I'm kind of a big boy at around 57lbs, I'm not super big.  At around 2yo, I'm past puppy foolishness but still young enough to learn new things and I really want to please you so you will love me. Kahn is a 6 1/2 year old neutered male American Bulldog mix who weighs about 80 Lbs.  He was with a family who he lived with all his life.  They surrendered him to the shelter because where they were moving they couldn't take him. He was so stressed out and depressed, so he developed a skin infection.    We got him out of the shelter and he is now in a foster home and his skin is looking so much better, and that is because he is a happy lovebuy of a boy again.   He is totally housebroken, is not destructive when you leave him alone , just don't leave open food on the counter as he will help himself to it.   Kahn's personality is so sweet and he just adores to be sitting by your feet or next to you, and get lots of head rubs, belly rubs too.  Kahn Likes everyone, including dogs.    When he was surrendered they noted he was ok with cats but since he is in foster care he hasn't been around any cats so I am not sure how he reacts when 1st meeting one.  He would love a fenced in yard to go out and sit in the sun, that is his favorite thing to do in his foster home.  He lays in the sun room on his dog bead and just loves life.  Kahn is strong on a leash but walks nicely on it most of the time as long as he has no distractions so he would need someone who can handle a large dog & continue to work on his leash training.  He does want to jump up when he 1st meets someone but we are working on changing that so that training may have to continue.  He is not food aggressive & he will let you take anything he has in his mouth from him.  He learns quickly but because of his size Kahn really needs to be in a home with someone who perhaps has experience with a large breed dog & can be firm, consistent, & loving.  He responds well to structure & affection.   Definitely no small children living with him as he can easily knock them down in his excitement to see them.  Someone who is active, perhaps even someone who runs would be great for Kahn as even at 6 1/2 he has plenty of energy & it needs to be directed in the correct way.  I don't think his former life was very structured & he needs that plus he responds to that.  He is totally happy laying around with you & you just need to relax. All in all he's a big sweet goofball who would love to find a forever home with someone or a family who can offer him a life he deserves & has the patience & love he needs. Kahn also loves car rides & behaves very nicely when he's out for a drive.  He just sits in the back of the car and looks out the window and takes it all in.  He would love to be someones buddy going for rides.   If you want to meet him, fill out an application on our website bcaaofnj.og show less

Hi!  My name is Sally and I am in search of a forever home.  I was pregnant and showed up in the yard of what turned out to be some pretty nice folks who live in rural Georgia along with another dog who was also pregnant.  We both had our puppies within a week of each other but the other dog took off so I took over momma duties for both my puppies as well as hers.  The nice folks called a small local rescue to see if they could help me and the puppies and they came and got all of us and kept us safe; a volunteer then contacted BCAA to see if they could help us all and they said yes!  I loved my puppies and I'm told I was a really good momma dog and BCAA found all of my puppies great homes and they now say it's my turn to find my own forever home.  I'm still pretty shy and it takes some patience and TLC for me to trust but my foster mom and dad have been great helping me out and say that I'm really a sweet girl.  I have gotten along with all of the dogs I have met, both big and small, and I have ignored those things called cats.  I have done great in a kennel that has a nice recliner that I have claimed as my own.  While I'm in my kennel I haven't had any accidents, I don't bark, and I haven't torn up anything.  Now that I know my foster parents are good people and will not hurt me, I've done really well on leash (those treats they have also help) and enjoy going on a walk.  I am so happy to get regular good food and I love treats which I take very gently. The vet thinks I'm about a couple years old and I only weigh around 28lbs so I don't take up much room.  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an application which can be found at http://www.bcaaofnj.org. show less
