Meet Bruno! Bruno is a very special boy who is approximately 5 years old. Bruno was relinquished twice to two different shelters because the owners did not know how to best deal with him. Why would they relinquish? Because he is a barker. He barks at all noises, people, movements… you name it. That does not seem to be changing with training and a calm environment. Bruno in the past had an electronic shock collar on him and it appears to have caused permanent trauma. Since being placed in foster care, he has blossomed into a loving, goofy companion. But… the barking continues. So, to find his perfect home has been a challenge. He needs a home with a secure fenced yard. No strangers and no walks. He launches out any door, so he needs to be leashed if people come. He is a special boy. He would be a great companion for a single woman who does not live in an apartment. Until we find his perfect forever home the Alternative Humane Society is committed to his long-term foster care. We cover all his veterinary expenses, food, and supplies. His foster is committed to on-going training and will continue to provide a safe and loving home. We are raising money to help support Bruno in his long-term foster care needs. Thank you so much for your support. If you believe Bruno would be a good fit for your home please fill out a Statement of Interest on the Alternative Humane Society webpage. https://alternative-humane-society.com/ He's happy and loves to play outside. He is a Barker! No apartments or condos sorry.

Goldie is a small, now slightly more than 20lb terrier mix. Vet claims he's 8. Now that he is comfortable, Goldie has been such a joy in my little family. He's very soft and always interested in what you're doing, where you're going and follows very closely behind. He just wants to be involved! He sleeps in the living room, either in his bed, in his kennel or on any of the various blankets strewn about our couch and sofa chair. I will note, he likes his sleep and isn't the most cuddly when he's tired, either at night or when he wakes up. He likes to hang out in whatever room we're in, either at your feet looking up at you or curled up in his little bed. He does fine around other animals, even though he's never particularly interested in playing. Everyday I have Goldie, he's even cuter and sweeter. He warms up more and more each day, and I can't wait to see him blossom in his forever home. If you think Goldie would be a good addition to your family, please fill out a Statement of Interest!

Lacey is a 30 lb Australian Cattle dog/ Australian Shepherd mix that joined us from California. Lacey is 10 months old. She is a very SMART and ENERGETIC girl that loves to play ball and go for walks. She also loves to snuggle and thinks your lap would be a great place to crash. Lacey does very well with women, cautious around men, and could possibly do well with older and respectful children. Lacey will need to be the only dog. Cats and other animals are unknown. Her ideal home would be with someone with a yard. She would not do well in an apartment or townhome because she is vocal. Lacey will bark at unknown sounds, the vacuum cleaner, and new people. Lacey was given very little attention before she came to us, but she already knows sit, down, and will throw up a shake to get treats. She will need to attend a rewards-based training and would make you look good with how quickly she’s able to learn, and it would help build an everlasting bond with her owners. If you’d like to find out more and meet this special girl to see if she’s a good fit with your pack, please fill out a Statement of Interest.

Saul is a 14 year old poodle mix, neutered and chipped. He came to us from a woman that was in hospice and wanted Saul to be in a comfortable home. Saul is a special needs dog. He needs to be handfed because he has no lower jaw. He had horrible dental disease and when they pulled his teeth his jaw disintegrated. He loves to eat! Hes pretty much blind but can still see movement in one eye. He would love to be in a home that would let him just be in someone's lap or out in a yard where he could experience the nice warm summer Sun in the grass. Being blind he needs someone that's watchful of him. He's very sweet and he will be ready for adoption very soon. Hes been checked by a vet and has potential of a bit more time. If you'd like a quiet buddy and have it in your heart to care for a senior with a few quirks, please go to our website and fill out a statement of interest for Saul.

Sparkles is a 6-year-old, 12lb Chihuahua girl with the long legs of the Deer-Legged breed. She has an affectionate, spunky personality. Wary and shy at first, she quickly warms up and loves affection. She is definitely a lap dog and could sit with you and be petted 24/7, although she is sensitive to being picked up. She will wait patiently for you to sit down and chill with her. She can be confident at times, but loud sudden noises scare her so when out walking, you’ll need a secure grip on the leash in case she’s a flight risk. Out on walks, she is energetic and curious and tolerates other dogs passing by. She is very interested in cats but it’s not known if she wants to play or not. Sparkles would really like to be the only princess in your home as she has shown food possession around other dogs. This cute girl is clever and knows sit, stay and come. She seems to be house-trained and hasn’t been much of a barker in her foster home so far. A fenced yard, even a small one, would be great for her. The best home for Sparkles would be with adults only who will be patient with her, offering lots of love and affection. Sparkles is spayed, has been microchipped and will be up-to-date on shots soon. If you are interested in meeting Sparkles, contact the Alternative Humane Society by filling out a Statement of Interest on our website: www.alternative-humane-society.com All meet and greets are done outdoors, using social distancing guidelines and wearing masks.
