This wonderful girl was found outside of Cortez by a kind young man who recognized how special she is and brought her to Denkai. Covered with ticks and very thin, Charlotte was a victim of neglect but does not appear to have been hit.  Charlotte was timid at first but has warmed up in her new foster home.  She loves children.  Charlotte has not been aggressive with other dogs in her foster home but as she bonds with her foster mom she is getting jealous of one of the other dogs and has been grouchy with her (growls, shows teeth)--she may not react well to every dog--it is difficult to say because she has not been around many other dogs while in our care.  Charlotte loves to be with her family and she gets upset when her foster family leaves.  She often barges at the door and sometimes jumps baby gates to get into closed off areas.  She goes through the trash and will get on the table while the family is absent.  Charlotte would really like to have people who do not need to leave her excessively--she has been abandoned and is very afraid that it will happen again.  Charlotte loves to go for walks, play, eat treats, and cuddle.  She is good on a leash and gentle with taking treats.  Although she is large she is still very happy to sit in your lap or lay her head down on you.  She loves to be with people and is ready to bond with a new person or family. This dog is a special "old soul" that will be an incredible companion.    show less

A letter to my oh so sweet Nina, my foster dog❤ Nina, when you came to the store you melted my heart. Your heart broken howl when I left the room broke my heart, when you would flinch or cower away when I moved fast or I walked towards you broke my heart. Your face said it all. You slept under my desk at work and when I got up you made sure you were there right beside me, even though you couldn't go far. You waited for me to come back and if it felt like forever, you sure made it known - the whole store could hear you😂. You came home and found our big male dog, Moose, and our older female dog Dally and you were stuck to those two like glue. We battled with you using the bathroom in the house and of course I couldn't yell or get mad and take you right outside as it would take 3 to 4 rounds around the kitchen before I could catch you to take you outside. You pushed my buttons and tested my patience. Here we are a week later, you can be taken outside on a longer leash and left outside without being watched to go potty and get a sun bath. We are on day 3 of not using the bathroom in the house. You don't cower or flinch as bad like you did the first day. You get super excited when we call your name, you have started to trust us and now know we won't hurt you, ever. Today you took the biggest step since you were dropped off at Denkai, I put you by the register with your little blanket bed and your water bowl, and every time a customer came up to check out you were right there to greet them and let them love on you. I want to tell you sweet girl, your forever home will come soon enough and we will keep making big steps like today. You are an angel and a gentle soul. You have made me so proud of you. You will be one foster pup who I will never let leave my heart or mind even if you're camera shy. Once you pull your camera out, she avoids you. 😍😂 Love forever, your foster momma.😘💜 show less
