**WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** UPDATE: Adira is more socialized and confident! She is overcoming her past and full of JOY! Slowly give a gentle hug to shy Adira. Her name means Strong, and Noble. We gave her this name to help her self-confidence. She is a retired breeder mama. Adira is 2 year old English BullGirl given up to a vet's office who turned her over to our rescue. Her spirit has been hurt by her previous people, but her playful loving personality still pops out occasionally. She will play with her toys and then looks around to make sure she is allowed to have fun. She will run in the fenced yard galloping like a horse then suddenly stops to hide as if she thinks she shouldn’t act happy! More and more she is opening to human love and her personality is starting to shine. She is absolutely loving and becoming more confident. She is puppy playful and has some puppy behavior she is working on. Adira weighs almost 50 lbs. She is very shy and timid so an adult home would be better suited for her needs. She needs a home where they will show her it's ok to trust and be loved. Loud noises scare her so soft-spoken people would be best. Adira does seem to like women better than men, only cowering to men she does not react, just tries to make herself as small as possible, covering her eyes. She will need some guidance, love, and patience in order for her to come out of her shell. She needs a home with people who have experience with English bulldogs, understand all their breed characteristics and health concerns. She is healthy now but may have allergies or breathing issues in the future. We just want people to be prepared long term. She is good with smaller dogs and some taller dogs but she really prefers to be the only dog to ensure her feelings of safety. She does guard her food from other dogs so feeding separately would be necessary if you have another dog. This dog's adoption fee is $900 to go towards their vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Our beautiful, sweet, gentle Camden was neglected, particularly his eyes, resulting in a horrible infection, dry eye, and vision loss at an early age. He has begun treatment, (eye drops 3 x a day) which he takes easily, with very good results. He will need to continue these two medicated drops for the rest of his life. His vision is like looking out of muddy glasses. He doesn't bump into things but it something to think long-term about. Otherwise, he is healthy and in good shape. Camden is a happy boy who enjoys all the attention he gets, whether it’s going for a walk or cuddling in a lap. He has good energy and a lovely spirit that he just can’t wait to share with a new family. He also gets along with other dogs. This wonderful, handsome boy will bring lots of joy and smiles to a new family. If you believe you are a great match for Camden. **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** COQUITO IS WAY HEALTHIER THAN EXPECTED BUT HE IS STILL SPECIAL NEEDS! Coquito's previous people could not afford his medical care and he was on death's door when we rescued him. He was not expected to make it but we have completed months of rehab to get him to a seemingly healthy state. We have done a couple of thousand dollars of diagnostics and treatments. His liver is still enlarged but his liver values are NORMAL He has collapsed trachea but has not had any symptoms since the thyroid meds kicked in. He is on thyroid tabs, joint meds, two eye drops, and supplements. He is doing phenomenally well. We are putting him up for adoption to a qualified home. He is 11 years old, 5.5 pounds, he will potty on wet grass, something chihuahuas are not fond of! LOL!, He cuddles and asks for attention with his paws. Coquito is quiet and good with dogs under 15 pounds. He initiates play with the other dogs. COQUITO IS SPECIAL NEEDS AND WILL NEED DAILY MEDICATION, REGULAR VET VISITS TO MONITOR HIS THYROID!  PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME AND FINANCES TO CONTINUE THE CARE WE HAVE PROVIDED. No Children. Check this link for his video playlist  His adoption fee is $150 to go towards his vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). Please read his daily needs and check pricing with your vet for the thyroid tests and x-rays so you know what to expect.   He is calm and cuddly once he trusts you but he will freak out and hold his breath when being held by some people in new environments. This stress causes him to lose oxygen and his tongue turns blue. If he is not relieved from his stress quickly he will need oxygen by a vet. When he is getting his tests ran we plan a couple of hours so he can rest in between tests and not be gasping to breathe.    FOOD He is on Dave's brand low protein and low phosphorus canned food with a teaspoon of Dave's brand joint formula just to get him to eat the low protein food. It is important he doesn't eat other treats except for some veg, because of the high protein is hard for his liver and pancreas to digest.   MEDICATIONS He gets 1/2 Galliprant once a day for arthritis which is a lifelong prescription for pain and inflammation.  He also needs Gabapentin for pain once daily. He is on Thyro tabs 1.5 grams twice a day and needs a thyroid blood test every 6 months. His ophthalmologist has him on two eye drops for the ulcers caused by the thyroid issue. Currently, both drops are only for one eye but eventually, it will be for both eyes. He is on Sentinal brand monthly heartworm prevention for under 10 pounds. He has not had a reaction to this brand so he must only continue with it.   SUPPLEMENTS *He gets pre & probiotics in his food once a day to help with his digestion and fiber in the opposite meal to keep his bowels working..He gets blocked up easily which makes him painful and triggers a nerve that affects his neck and right front leg.  *He gets joint supplements once a day from Zesty paws brand.    *He is not on flea and tick prevention because we don't have a problem and he is sensitive so we give him ECO Flea once a day. He loves it!  *He also gets an immune supplement once a day.  *He gets pulse antibiotic therapy with Clindymysin 4-5 days twice a day at the beginning of each month to keep the oral infection down since he is not able to go under anesthesia for a dental cleaning. due to his collapsed trachea. He currently doesn't have any symptoms of coughing from the trachea. Keeping the infection down is crucial to helping his other organs function better and less oral pain from inflammation. During those few days, he doesn't get the probiotics.  *He gets liver supplements that helped get his liver values in a good range on his bloodwork. This is another precaution so he keeps up his health.   GROOMING He needs to be groomed at home in short periods of time because he stresses and again loses oxygen with the collapsed trachea. Once he trusts you, you will need to gently maneuver him to get him cleaned up. He can't have anything around his neck, because of the trachea. He needs his paws and privets groomed for cleanliness and a better grip on the floor. His chest also gets food on it sometimes so I groom his body to even out his lion's mane! LOL! There are YouTube videos to guide you.   This regime is only a fraction of what saved his life. Scientifically and physically she wasn't going to live the first few days we had him. He has been through a battery of tests, treatments, and meds to get him to adoptable status in 6 months.   He will need a dedicated caregiver to follow through with his needs and continue with proper vet care at an established vet, not a vaccine clinic.   We get a lot of people interested in Coquito's cuteness but they don't understand the commitment. We are no-kill, foster home only so all our dogs are free to run in foster homes sleeping in our beds and getting all their needs met. We are hopeful for Coquito and all our other special needs dogs will all get qualified homes, but if not they can be in our forever foster care program. He will always be safe and properly cared for. Please think this through, get information from your vet on the cost of tests and look online for the cost of meds plus supplements. He has a quality of life with this regimen. Please let me know if you truly feel you can fulfill his needs.    NEW Recently he had a stroke at the ophthalmologist and went blind, had a hard time walking and eating. That lasted 3-4 days and he was back to normal. We ran his bloodwork and other tests that all came out fine. His heart is good. It must have been the stress at the ophthalmologist because they had to hold him for the exam. Next time he will get a sedative to prevent the stress. If you are interested please fill out the adoption application For additional information regarding our adoption process, please check our FAQ's Page.   *All dogs in the care of Get a Life Pet Rescue live in loving foster homes while waiting for their perfect match. **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** PLEASE READ HIS FULL BIO BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT! Happy boy Harrison is eager to win your heart! Harrison was turned over to the police and was on his way to a kill facility if we didn't step up to save him. He has lower lumbar paralysis, meaning he can't use his rear legs. He is also bladder and bowel incontinent, so his bladder needs to be manually expressed 4 plus times a day. His bowel movement release on its own and you can manually speed the process most of the time. Harrison has no idea he is injured, he happily plays fetch and lives each day to the fullest. He is a wonderful companion for someone willing to keep up with his needs and in-home physical therapy. We are looking for that special person to see past his limitations and fall in love with his very deserving spirit. His previous people did get him the spinal surgery but didn't seem to do rehab. He’s been receiving Acupuncture, laser therapy, physical therapy and aqua therapy with a group of specialists who have trained us how to continue his therapy at home. He has also had I-Therm therapy which has helped and we are looking to get a machine for our rescue to continue his rehab and help our other special needs dogs. He shows signs of feeling from his paws and he has positive reactions to therapy. He sometimes uses his legs by showing strength. We are hopeful he will walk with continued home therapy. This absolutely adorable little guy is only two years old and 8 pounds. He has wheels that he can do his zoomies around the house and he travels well in the car, always ready to meet people. We are looking for a home for him who can keep up with his monthly grooming and heartworm prevention as well as daily health care and maintenance. His adoption fee is $200 to go towards his vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, microchip, and all his therapy/rehab). If you feel you can fulfill Harrison's needs he will drown you with kisses and his fantastic personality!  Check his VIDEO PLAYLIST here. **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Introducing, Krispy Kreme Rat Terrier. His mature adult owner moved in with her family who has children and Krispy was not happy. He is not good with children or cats. He.needs a calm adult home with a regular schedule and time to spend with him. He is loving and gives kisses once he trusts you and he will let you know when he needs to go potty.  Krispy is stimulated by activity and reacts in fear, so apartment or condo living with people and pets in passing would not be good for him. He is good on the walk in open areas and distance from others. Over time he gets used to the same people and realizes they are not going to hurt him. The vet said he is blind in one eye possibly from head trauma Krispy can see with the other eye and doesn't walk into anything, we address him from his sited side so he knows we are approaching him for cuddles. We do feel he would be best as an only dog so he can get all the loving. He had a dental cleaning and is ready for his home. He is 8-9 years old. and 13 pounds. He is small and muscular. A FAB walking buddy! Krispy's adoption fee is $300 to go towards his vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Check our New Years' baby, Rockwell ChiPoo (Chihuahua Poodle) He is lively and fun on walks but quiet and well mannered in the house.  He prefers to be the center of attention and have all your devotion so he is best as an only dog.  He can be jealous of other dogs once he attaches to you but that’s because he has so much love to give!   He does take time to accept new people and will bark or shy away the first day while he gets used to you BUT baby talk and snacks work to win him over. He is 2 and a half years old and 11 pounds with a wavy silky coat. He may not be totally hypoallergenic so if you have allergies to dogs, he won't be a match. Rockwell needs an adult home that will help him through his initial fear then you will find that he quickly becomes bonded to you and offers great companionship. He will bark at new people and dogs passing by so a high-rise or condo situation with people passing by frequently will NOT work unless you are very experienced with fearful dogs.  He thinks he is going to be hurt so it may take a while for him to get over his fear of new people.  He comes around to love within a day and he does NOT bite except at the vet when he is held down. Rockwell needs more work on socialization with new people.  He is loving and cuddly once he trusts you but Rockwell will go through an adjustment each time he meets new people until he is properly desensitized. You will need to continue with calm, nonaggressive training in order for him to have a peaceful life and you need to establish boundaries with people new to Rockwell so that they give him the space to introduce himself when he is ready.  He does make new friends quickly especially on leashed tranquilly walks.  Rockwell is always following you around and waiting to be invited to sit with you for his belly rubs!  He has awesome inside manners and is potty trained. He sits still to have his harness put on when it’s time for a walk.  He sleeps next to you or in a cozy dog bed and he loves to lay in the sun on the patio.  The key to Rockwell’s heart is to allow him to feel safe by not rushing close introductions and allow him space to introduce himself.  If you are looking for a little buddy that will stay close and adore you, please check Rockwell!  Rockwell's adoption fee is $350 to go towards his vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). **WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Ooh la laa laaa Xavier Pekingese is prancing into your heart! He's 7 years old and needs to put on some weight so he will be around 12+ pounds. He needs an adult home, preferably as an only dog because he is learning not to be possessive of his toys. He is respectful of humans and his toys but he would NOT be good with children. He is doing well with respecting his foster dogs and his toys but this is something that would need a dedicated calm person the continue to help him with if you have another small dog. Xavier needs a home with a routine and people that will approach him slowly. He responds well to baby talk and lowering yourself to his level and not standing over him. Once he trusts he will not be hit by you he is kissy and loving! When you tell him he is a good boy he wags his fluffy tail with excitement!  He will need basic grooming and monthly heartworm prevention as all dogs in Florida should be on because of mosquitos spreading Heartworm disease. Xavier also had a dental cleaning with his vetting. This dog's adoption fee is $350 to go towards their vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed).
