Aspen was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. She is approx 1 1/2 years old. She is 50 lbs. She loves all dogs she has met. She loves her walks, but needs to learn a few manners. She can use some basic obedience and leash training.  She is house trained, and does not care for the crate, however she can free roam as long as you put things away.  She sits for treats without even asking, loves. Carrots, cukes too. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. She is being fostered in South Bend, Indiana Adoption Info: We require a fenced in back yard ( physical fence)  and our policy is no small children under the age of 7 which is for the protection of our dog and your child. As many of our dogs come from a bad shelter environment or living conditions, most of our dogs need an adopter who is home more. This is for the best interest of the dog. Most of our dogs need training and most importantly lots of companionship.  Crating can have negative consequences when misused. Most of our dogs cannot free roam either when owners leave, as they will get into things. If they can free roam it will be included in their description. We prefer to get them on a path of socialization and training from the onset.  Therefore, we are looking for a home where an adult primary caretaker is home more. We do not want our dogs crated for more than a few hours a day. Adoption Process: - please fill out our adoption application: http://indianasaveadog.com/available-for-adoption/ - Please include detailed answers to the questions.  If a dog/puppy is listed on our website it is still available. PLEASE DO NOT email us to ask for availability. If they are listed on our website, we are accepting applications.  Please check your email and spam folder often after submitting an application. Mika's Story: Please read before you submit an application. Mika is 3 years old and 65 lbs. A DNA test was done. Surprisingly she is 50% AM Staf Terrier, 25% Golden Retriever, and 25% Bulldog Mix. Well we would have guessed lab was in there somewhere ! We rescued this sweet girl from the shelter and named her Mika, which means "new beginning". Sadly her " new beginning " hasn't happened yet. In fact we rescued her twice.  She was adopted 1 1/2 years ago and recently found herself back at the shelter. Her owner surrendered her. The shelter luckily called us and we picked her up. She was surrendered because Mika, developed a bad habit of wanting to chase anything moving; such as bikes, lawnmowers, and she wanted to chase joggers. Her previous owner lived in a subdivision with lots of activity, many bikers going down the sidewalk in front of their home. The situation became urgent when Mika saw a biker when she was in her backyard , and jumped the 4' fence to chase. Something that she had never done before. With all that being said, Mika is a wonderful dog...when Mika is not chasing the vacuum cleaner she will find your comfy recliner and relax, if your sitting in it hopefully there is room for Mika. Mika is a calm girl, submissive to her humans, laid back most of the time. She is very smart and wants to please.  Mika loves to watch DOG TV, she is housetrained, does not chew, can free roam and will want to sleep in your bed if you will let her. She is good with other dogs. No Cats. Mika's new home will need to be in an area with little activity. No sidewalks, No bikers or runners. She will also need a 6' high fenced in back yard in her new home. Mika lived with a retired couple, so someone was usually home. She would prefer a home where she would not be left alone for more than a few hours a day. Mika gets nervous around fast movements , young children and lots of activity, so she needs a home with kids age 13 and over. Mika pulls on a leash, and we are working on that, she is very strong so a gentle leader or more training would be necessary to walk her. Of course, she needs to stay away from areas with bikes and joggers during her walks; caution will need to be exercised . Her adoption fee is $100. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Mika is currently at a foster home in West Lafayette, Indiana. Please put in an application on our website www.indianasaveadog.com show less

I am looking for a very special owner. I am a very misunderstood pitty. I am 2 years old and 45 lbs.  My sister Di and I spent most of our lives in a shelter before being rescued. I did not meet many people, and I have a fear of people.  As a result, I have “stranger danger" syndrome. When I first meet a stranger, I bark and growl. In less than a couple days, I will become your best friend, full of kisses and love. I just need to know you are a good person, and treats are the way to my heart. I am not for the faint of heart. The people who met me were afraid of me at first, they did not understand I was more afraid of them, than they were of me. I need a miracle special adopter who is familiar with behavior issues, and the pit bull temperament.   I went to see a trainer and I was there for a while. My trainer loved me, and we bonded. Then I had to come back to the rescue with my sister. My sister is not adoptable yet, she is very reactive to strangers. The trainer felt that we should be separated and I would have a better chance at being adopted. I am a couch potato, kisser and lover once you get to know me. I need to go to a home with no children, and no dogs. I need a quiet home. If you have many friends, coming over I probably will not like them at first...   I will need to be put in a kennel until they leave. I will not be able to take walks or go many places. I need an adopter who is a homebody like me. I have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The rescue and my trainer want to help with my transition so I need a home within an hour or so of Grovertown, Indiana or near Sheridan, Indiana where my trainer is located. Watch my video and you will see my true personality when I trust and love a person.   Qualifications to adopt: someone that is home more during the day, experienced dog owner that is patient and willing to work through problems. A secure fenced in back yard 4’ tall minimum, no children  No other dogs or animals. Prince has never shown aggression with other animals, but he just wants his own human.  Please put in an application on our website www.indianasaveadogrescue.com  show less

Shay came from Texas and she was a Dead Dog Walking. She was scheduled to be euthanized and we were able to rescue her in the nick of time. She is such a sweet , fun and energetic lady. She is 1 year old and 40 lbs. What made us fall in love with her is when we saw her video at the shelter. The staff removed her from her kennel and into their office. There were toys on the floor and they threw the ball. She looked at the ball but did not retrieve. She ran back to the staff and just wanted a hug from them. She would not leave their side. She didn't care about toys or balls, she knew her time was up. Yes, dogs know. She just wanted love and safety. She was a scared girl there at the shelter. She has come around. She loves all people and she seems to love all dogs. She is full of energy and loves to run and play now. She is a happy girl here, but she wants and needs her forever family. Puppies will be spayed/neutered before adoption, they are up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.    Adoption Process: - please fill out our adoption application: http://indianasaveadog.com/available-for-adoption/ - Please include detailed answers to the questions. After your application has been approved you can put down a $50 deposit to hold the puppy until adoption day if you are interested in a certain puppy.  If a dog/puppy is listed on our website it is still available.  Puppies that have an approved application and have received a deposit are removed from the website. PLEASE DO NOT email us to ask for availability. If they are listed on our website, we are accepting applications.  Please check your email and spam folder often after submitting an application. You will receive an email to continue with processing of your app, or you may recieve a denial email if you do not meet our adoption criteria.  show less

Suzy and Sawyer , possibly littermates were rescued from a shelter in Texas. They were strays and were wondering together. They are 5-6 months old approx and 35 -40 lbs.  Adult size for Suzy is around 50 lbs. They are active and friendly with people and dogs. They were covered with fleas when we rescued them, so they may have some hair loss in certain areas, however we are treating it and we expect that when they leave for adoption hair will have grown back in. They are being spayed/neutered on June 25th and can leave for adoption after that.  Adoption Info: We require a fenced in back yard ( physical fence)  and our policy is no small children under the age of 7 which is for the protection of our puppy/ dog and your child. Tinker is the cutest little girl. She was owner surrendered to a Texas shelter , and is approx 12 weeks old.  As of this writing she is 6 lbs. There is no telling how big she will be as an adult. Right now we think she will be under 30 lbs. However  American Fox Hounds females are 40-60 lb dogs.  She would have to have a huge growth spurt to get that large. We don't know what other breed mixes are in her DNA either to determine her adult size.  We require a fenced in back yard ( physical fence)  and our policy is no small children under the age of 7. Puppies need a home where a primary adult caretaker is home during the day.  Puppies are up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. She will not be spayed  before adoption, as she is too small. Adopter will sign a legal and binding spay/neuter agreement   Adoption Process: - please fill out our adoption application: http://indianasaveadog.com/available-for-adoption/ - after your application has been approved you can put down a $50 deposit to hold the puppy of your choice until adoption day Note: we receive many applications on our dogs and puppies. We do not approve on a first come, first serve basis. You must meet our adoption criteria. 5 puppies were surrendered to a Texas shelter. The owner states the mom was a Dachshund. Since the owner had other dogs, he was not sure who the father was. He said could be Chihuahua, Min Pin, Pug or English Bulldog he did not know for sure. Truthfully who really knows what mixes they are. All we know is that they are small for their age of 12 weeks, and we do see all the above breeds, in all or some. The siblings are Wanda, Willow, Wilson, Wilma, and Willy. At the time of this writing Willy is 11 lbs . We require a fenced in back yard ( physical fence)  and our policy is no small children under the age of 7. My name is Zeke and I was rescued from Texas. I am a heeler, border collie, husky mix. I am 5 months old and 33 lbs. I have one beautiful brown and one beautiful blue eye.  I am going to be probably around 60 lbs as an adult.  I was put on a chain in the back yard when my owners got tired of my puppy behavior. So they surrendered me to the rescue. The rescue says I am such a good boy. I love people even though my first family didn't give me the love I deserve. I am outgoing and very social.  I am full of kisses and I am one happy boy. Like all puppies I need training and lots of companionship. I am doing well with my house training. I love other dogs.  We require a fenced in back yard ( physical fence)  and our policy is no small children under the age of 7. As many of our dogs come from a bad shelter environment or living conditions, most of our dogs need an adopter who is home more. This is for the best interest of the dog. Most of our dogs need training and most importantly lots of companionship. We prefer to get them on a path of socialization and training from the onset.  Therefore, we are looking for a home where someone is home more, such as retired, homemakers, someone who works out of the home or couples that work different schedules. We do not want our dogs crated for more than a few hours a day Zeke is neutered,  microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He is being fostered in Lowell, Indiana.   Please put in an application on our website www.indianasaveadog.com . show less
