Maxwell is a 7-year-old, 49-pound Labrador Retriever and Hound blend boy. Calm, sweet, and loyal homebody. Needs a patient adopter who will give him plenty of time to open up, as Maxwell is still adjusting to life in a loving home. Once he feels safe and secure, his adorable goofy personality will shine! Maxwell came to us from a hoarding situation, where he was not given much exposure to the outside world, so a lot of experiences are still new and scary to him. Maxwell has made amazing strides since being in our care, but he is still a shy guy who prefers to take it slow. We think that’s quite alright, so we allow Maxwell to meet new people at his own pace. Sometimes it can take a bit of time for him to form relationships with people, but once you have earned Maxwell’s trust, the rewards are great: Maxwell is a very gentle, quiet and attentive dog, who absolutely adores the one he’s deemed to be his person. He’ll follow you around the house and always finds a spot to rest nearby. The perfect companion that he is, Maxwell is happy to just sit quietly by your side, as he is not a big fan of getting cuddles. Maxwell’s favorite pastime is playing with his dog buddies! He just loves the company of other large, playful dogs - especially females - so it would be ideal if his forever home would have a confident dog to be his pal and show him the ropes in his new environment. If you don’t happen to have a playful female dog, don’t worry — Maxwell gets along just fine with the two low-key male dogs in his foster home, too. Just teeny tiny dogs aren’t really Maxwell’s thing, well.... we’re pretty sure he sometimes confuses them with squirrels.  When he’s not playing with his dog buddies, Maxwell loves to nap on cozy dog beds, roll in the grass, or best of all play fetch. His eyes light up at the sight of a tennis ball! He is also a big fan of snack-time and responds very well to food and positive-reinforcement based training in general. Maxwell requires a home with a securely fenced-in yard as he is a flight risk.  Most of all Maxwell wants what every dog wants: a safe and comfortable home where he can be loved for who he is. His foster mom promises you that you simply cannot help but fall head over heels for this sweet dog once you get to know him. Think you would be able to give Maxwell the loving home he deserves? Fill out an application and let’s see if it’s a match. Maxwell is housetrained, heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Maxwell is ready for his forever home and hoping that his perfect forever family is out there! His adoption donation is waived.  show less

The Scoop on Zazu: 7 year-old, 13 pound, Yorkie blend boy. This little guy is sweet, well-behaved, and intelligent.  He is learning to play with toys and having a ball! He is great around other small dogs and needs at least one pup pal in his new home to help him build his confidence. He hasn’t had the easiest life and needs someone with LOTS OF PATIENCE and love to give so he can feel comfortable in a safe environment. He is VERY SLOWLY coming out of his shell but many years outside isolated from people have taken an emotional toll and he will need a gentle, understanding angel to adopt him. We have discovered he prefers to be around male humans over female humans.  Zazu has a digestive disorder that requires meds and special food. He also needs a home with a securely fenced-in yard and no small children.  Do you have room in your heart and home for this special boy? Fill out an adoption application and let’s see if there’s a match. Zazu is heartworm negative, neutered, chipped, up to date on vaccines and ready for his forever home. Adoption donation $275. PLEASE NOTE: This is one of the dogs recently rescued from the “breeder” case.  These pups have lived their whole lives outside in rabbit hutches so they will need someone with patience, understanding, and lots of love to give. They haven’t had a lot of human interaction so would not be a fit in homes with very small children, loud sounds or too much commotion. They also likely won’t be big cuddlers right away because they have lived their lives without affection and need time to adjust. show less
