Name: Ace Suspected Breed(s): Redtick hound mix Gender: Male Age: 3 yrs old Weight: 58 lbs Personality: Outgoing, goofy/funny, loyal, smart, rambunctious, adventurous, good hiking partner, and mischievous. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs Observations with Cats: There are two resident cats in Ace's foster home. Ace is making progress with learning not to chase or bark at them. Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: No recent accidents, though Ace does have a tendency to mark when in a new place. Crate Training Progress: Ace quiets down quickly once in the crate. He can get overstimulated in some social situations, and he finds the crate to be a calming place. Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Webster County, WV Additional Information: Ace is an energetic, loving companion. He adores long walks, sniffs, and being outside with his foster human. He is a people "person" and wants to greet everyone he sees. Ace is also a fan of other dogs and is on his best behavior when meeting a new 4-legged friend and gets along great with his much smaller foster pup sibling. He enjoys long walks and runs and would make a fabulous exercise companion: he has incredible stamina! Mealtime puzzles are a source of great fun for Ace! He loves bones and stuffies, especially stuffies he can destroy: none of that tough chewer nonsense for Ace! A social butterfly, he enjoys being with his human while playing in the yard and is also fascinated by all the smells during his walks. Ace knows the words sit, spin, come, and up, and he is still learning more! If you are an active person, Ace may just be the guy for you! Ace's life was saved by the daughters of Barry and Rita, in honor of their 54th wedding anniversary. Name: Amaya Suspected Breed(s): Cattle dog mix Gender: Female Age: 6 mos old as of 4/1/22 Weight: ~40 lbs Personality: Friendly, playful, easygoing, independent. shy, goofy/funny, good running partner, rambunctious, smart, eager-to please, trustworthy, loyal, energetic, affectionate, gentle, timid/fearful, snuggler, and mischievous. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: Amaya is still working on house training. Crate Training Progress: Amaya is making good progress on crate training Location: DC area foster. Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: 6-month-old Amaya has the MOST kissable face. This speckled, floppy-eared lady is like the dog version of the energizer bunny; she is fun, excitable, and wants to hang out with you 24/7. Amaya has literally endless love to give, and she will never hesitate to let you know how much she adores you! While she may be shy at first, she is quick to open up and show that she has complete trust in you. This little lady loves to hang out with her humans and is up for anything, whether that be a walk, playtime, or just having a snuggle on the couch. Amaya has a lot of energy, so she is always excited and eager to meet new friends and loves when guests come to visit (the more people the more pets, right?)! This friendly gal's #1 goal is to be your BFF, and she will show it by being your shadow; whatever you're doing, she will happily tag along. Amaya makes every activity into a party, even changing the sheets! She also has endless affection, and when it's bedtime she loves to cuddle in bed with her humans. Amaya enjoys walks but sometimes gets too excited about all the fun sights and smells and has trouble focusing and remembering that walks are also potty breaks. She has endless curiosity, and is interested in anything and everything! This little lady would be best suited for a home that can patiently work on some basic training with her, since she is learning these skills for the first time and needs some gentle direction and practice. However, she has been making progress on her training (she is adapting very well to her crate) and knows "sit." Amaya is clever and resourceful, she just needs some guidance and redirection! Amaya's sweet demeanor and loving personality is quick to steal hearts, and she is looking for a forever home that has lots of love and patience (and she has so much love to give!). Name: Bailey Suspected Breed(s): Pittie mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 50 lbs Personality: Playful, affectionate, outgoing, rambunctious, smart, and energetic Observations with Dogs: Generally good with other dogs on playdates. Bailey can get overly excited and sometimes plays rough, so any playmates would need to match that style. He is still learning how to contain his emotions when meeting people and dogs on-leash, so he would do best with a fenced yard or in a quieter, less dense part of the city.   Observations with Cats: Bailey would be best in a home without cats. Observations with Kids: Bailey would do best in a home without children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Bailey does well in the crate. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Are you looking to have a good time? A partner in crime? A snuggle buddy who will be loyal to you furever? Well, luckily for you, adoptable Bailey is looking for that too! This pup is smart, friendly, and energetic. He loves fetch and is an athletic superstar when it comes to catching balls mid-air in the yard. One-on-one playdates with doggie friends who are game for his rough style of play are his favorite. Bailey is also happy to occupy himself with squeaky toys or, when you are willing, a good game of tug. Training time is always a treat for Bailey too! He learns behaviors and new words quickly and is very eager to please his human.  After a full day of fun, snuggle time on the couch is a must for this sweetheart. Companionship is a serious business for Bailey, and he’s definitely up to the task. Bailey is still learning how to greet people and dogs when on walks, so he would do best with a fenced yard or in a quieter, less dense part of the city.   Bailey knows life isn’t always easy. He was found after being hit by a car, and after making a full recovery, he’s excited to make the most of life again. He’d love to enjoy it right next to you, so apply to adopt this sweet man today! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Dogs: Callie likes to play with some dogs but would be best as an only dog to soak up all the limelight!  Observations with Cats: Would do best in a home without cats.  Observations with Kids: Would do best in a home without young children, as she can be shy and anxious around new people and might become overwhelmed. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Callie enjoys spending time in her crate during the day with the door open and quiets quickly when the door is shut. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Galax County, Virginia Additional Information: Looking for a best friend? Then Callie is most definitely your girl. Callie is a wonderful mix of loving devoted pup and energetic fun girl as she loves napping all cuddled up next to you, but given the chance she would have the time of her life running around for hours soaking in the sunshine and sniffing all the daisies. Most days though, she is more than content to stick by your side and show you what devotion really looks like. Have we mentioned that Callie also lives for learning new tricks? This girl knows “come,” “sit,” “stay,” like a champ and is continuing to learn “leave it.”  And while Callie does enjoy a solid walk filled with sniffing galore, she is also happy enjoying some quality time with her toys. Callie likes to play with some dogs, but is looking to live that "only dog" life (aka a single-pet home) where she can have all the attention of her humans. Callie's future human can expect all of her devotion while they help her improve her manners on walks (I mean, what dog doesn't try to pull when they are excited?) and help her not to get so stressed when strangers enter the home. Although Callie wants to be the only pet in your home, we can assure you that her heart brings the love of 10 dogs to the table.  __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Copeland has had the great opportunity to be staying with a trainer, and she reports that he loves to learn! He knows "let's go," "sit," "go to mat," "trade," "go get it," and "come." Like most dogs, he'd love a person who wants to continue to use positive training to engage him. Getting treats for winning your approval and being a good boy is Copeland's favorite part of life!   Copeland is leash reactive (meaning he barks on leash) so isn’t a great fit for the city, but he would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard for him to play in. Copeland is very loyal and bonds deeply with his caregivers — it would be hard to find a more affectionate and trusting dog than Copeland to be your next furry friend. He also enjoys making other human and canine friends. His best friend is a large female Malinois, but he’s spent time around dogs large and small and might love a canine companion to romp with in his new home. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Kids: She hasn't lived with children but has been friendly with those she's met. Has met them calmly and without jumping.  House Training Progress: Housetrained Crate Training Progress: Does well crated Location: Arrives in DC on 6/4 Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Cora is as stunning as she is loving. She proved to be too sweet and loyal with her people to guard their poultry -- she'd rather chill in the house with you! Cora is a little uncertain in new situations but meets adults and children well without being overly-excited or jumping on them. Her current caregivers say she's so quiet that you'd hardly know she's in the house, although she might give a few barks at unexpected noises. Cora is new to the organization, and we can't wait to share more about this sweetheart! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Guinness Suspected Breed(s): Collie mix Gender: Male Age: 1-2 yrs old Weight: 53 lbs Personality: Friendly, goofy/funny, energetic, playful, rambunctious, good running partner, and adaptable. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs and might like another active dog to play with! Guinness goes to the dog park 2-3 times a week but would love to go every day if he could.  Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: He's mostly got it down but occasionally has accidents. Crate Training Progress: Guinness sleeps in his crate at night without issue and will happily hang out in his crate for an hour or two at a time during the day if he is well-exercised. He is very social and sometimes he’d prefer to be in the center of the action with his human friends! Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Despite his name, Guinness has nothing pint-sized about him! His personality and approach to life is enthusiastic, energetic, outgoing and goofy. He is a social boy who is always greeting friends new and old, human and canine. Lots of walkies and an occasional sniffing stroll are some of Guinness's favorite pastimes. Then of course, there's the dog park and doggie daycare, both great places for him to burn off some of his energy and have tons of fun! Guinness gets so many compliments at the dog park for being gentle and playful with both big and small dogs.  This smart boy has learned to sit, shake, lay, stay, and "leave it" in just a matter of weeks. But we're not sure if he's ready for Mensa yet -- silly Guinness often bonks his head on furniture! Like any adolescent dog, he has a lot of energy for playtime and other exercise. Guinness sometimes wants all of your attention and will try to get you to play and interact with him, especially when he has energy to burn. He would love an active home, maybe with a canine friend to keep him company! Does Guinness sound like the one for you? Apply today! Guinness is sponsored by Amy B. CDCK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. Name: Holmes Suspected Breed(s): Mixed Breed Gender: Male Age: 6 months old Weight: 54lbs Personality: Smart, outgoing, rambunctious, playful, eager-to-please, energetic and food-motivated. Observations with Dogs: Seems to love all other dogs. Observations with Cats: Holmes does well with the resident cat in his foster home — he’s curious but takes direction well about whether to approach. He eventually figured out that bringing balls to the cat tree did not mean the cat would agree to play.  Observations with Kids: Holmes is a little too exuberant for young children, as he loves to play and doesn't understand his size. House Training Progress: No recent accidents.  Crate Training Progress: Holmes is doing great with crate training — he’s crated overnight and can be in his crate for 2-3 hours at a time during the day. Sometimes he’ll hang out in his crate when there’s nothing more exciting happening around him! Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Holmes is a velvety, sweet, and gentle black shadow who will follow you around the house with curiosity, seeking out opportunities for affection or an extra treat. He is a darling dog with a lot of puppy energy. This goofball LOVES to play fetch and tug-of-war, and will flop over for belly rubs with a dramatic sigh (if he’s tired out from chasing his own tail). He sprints circles around his friends at the dog park, when he's not rolling over or gently hopping to initiate a wrestle/romp session. Holmes is affectionate and always brings a toy back to you to keep playing. This smart and eager-to-please pup (he already knows "sit," and "down") is one friendly guy! Holmes is looking for a home that has a lot of time to play, exercise, and provide mental stimulation, as well as some help with training for walks. Apply today to meet Holmes! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.
