Name: Annie Suspected Breed(s): Australian shepherd mix Gender: Female Age: 2-3 yrs old Weight: 52 lbs Personality: Trainable, affectionate, energetic, goofy, good running partner, snuggler, outgoing, playful, friendly Observations with Dogs: Annie seems to enjoy male dogs about her size, but she is not a fan of most other dogs and would be best as an only dog in the home. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Annie has not lived with children, but she has gently taken treats and pets from young ones she has met on walks. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in the crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Annie is an absolute beauty -- with a personality to match! She is an energetic dog who loves to go for walks, hikes and runs. Annie knows the words sit, down and wait. Annie shows her affection by quietly staying by her people at their desk or treadmill. This goofy girl enjoys playing with toys and people alike! Whether it’s her antics inside while running “away” to be “caught” by people and then smothered with love or just calmly snuggling, she will make you laugh and feel like a very special human indeed. Annie also loves being a hostess to new humans and would surely like to meet you! Because Annie prefers to be queen of her world, she needs to go to a home where she is an "only child-dog" or to a home with experienced owners who have a male dog about her same size and weight. Annie's life was saved by Richard Straus. Thank you! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Azura Suspected Breed(s): Boxer/Lab Mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years Weight: 55 lbs Personality: Playful, adventurous, gentle, affectionate, calm, goofy, friendly, trainable, patient, outgoing, funny, easygoing Observations with Dogs: Azura and the resident dog in her foster home peacefully coexist, but they don’t play together as Azura might like. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Azura loves the 10 and 12 year old children in her foster home. When she is overly excited she can get a little too “mouthy” for the younger child, and this is something for which she will need continued training. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Azura initially barks when left in the crate, but she settles in fairly quickly. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Azura is a great combination of chill and playful. She enjoys her walks and her toys, but she’s also fairly content to nap most of the day. Evening is when Azura’s playfulness really shines through, and you are sure to smile watching her throw her stuffed animals in the air! During this burst of energy she plays vigorously by herself, and then conks out for the night. Azura is still learning some manners, like that shoes are not toys and not to be too “mouthy” when playing, but she is fairly easy to redirect. She will just need an adopter who is willing to continue training.  Azura loves to be out on walks, meeting all the dogs and people in the neighborhood, but she's also very calm both at home and out and about. She is a great companion for outings because she can go with the flow and welcomes all the people who want to touch her beautiful coat. If Azura sounds like the gal for you, apply today to adopt her! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Bebe Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd/husky mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 49lbs Personality: Playful, energetic, patient, a quick learner, outgoing, funny, loyal, a snuggler, gentle, smart, goofy, eager to please, affectionate, brave, trainable, adaptable, friendly. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs on and off leash.  Observations with Cats: Unknown Observations with Kids: Bebe has done well with the few children she has met on walks, but has never lived with children. Her exuberance and size is probably too much for small children. House Training Progress: Occasional accidents.  Crate Training Progress: Quiets quickly when crated.  Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Galax County, Virginia Additional Information: Bebe is an absolute gem! She is funny, sweet, and affectionate! Bebe loves to snuggle and give hugs. She just wants to love on her human so much that she needs some direction on how to appropriately express her love. It is impossible not to smile when Bebe’s around – she is wonderfully goofy, playful, and fun! She delights at meeting humans and dogs wherever she goes.  Bebe is great on walks and would make an amazing hiking buddy and possibly even a great running partner. She loves toys and is very happy to play with them on her own, with other dogs or with her human. Bebe does well in her crate at night and when no one is home, but she is trusted to roam outside of her crate when her foster is working from home. Bebe is great in the car and is up for any adventure! She is still learning her puppy manners but is generally very well behaved as long as she gets sufficient exercise. She loves to play with other dogs at daycare to burn off some energy, and is always down for a walk or hike! This smartie pants knows the words sit, down, stay, come, place, no, down, off and gentle when she is inside. She's very smart and learns quickly but is still learning to follow the word cues when she’s outside where there's more stimuli. If you are looking for a bundle of love and enjoy long walks then Bebe would love to meet you! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. He's free to roam day and night.  Location: Foster home Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: According to his current foster, Ben's name should really be Gentle Ben. He shares his love with everyone -- men, women, and children alike -- and is a champion snuggler. In fact, this affectionate big boy sometimes thinks he's a lap dog. Gentle Ben has excellent house manners and is trusted in the house alone. He gets goofy with toys sometimes but is otherwise content to be laying next to you or happily chewing on a treat. Right now, poor Ben has a cleft palate (a slit on the roof of his mouth) that leaves him congested and with a lot of nasal discharge. We're arranging surgery for that soon, and we' hope to find an adopter that will see him through it. Ben is the best and deserves the best. He loves the company of his humans, but is also comfortable being crated alone at home. Most of all, Cedar needs a human who can help him work through his leash reactivity with dedicated training. A quiet neighborhood would be best and a yard to play fetch in would be a plus! Cedar has a variety of hobbies that include; a good mental workout (games and sniffing for treats), playing fetch, and relaxing with humans. He loves sniffy games and working on his wobbly Kong, and has also been known to play an excellent game of fetch (in which he punctuates each retrieval with an adorable pounce). When not working on his training exercises and games, he loves nothing more than to play with and snuggle his people (between the daily activities he's been known to hop on the couch, let out a loud sigh, and happily doze off next to his foster human). Don't be surprised when after a long day of fun, a tired Cedar decides to put himself to bed. It's absolutely adorable. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Charlotte is an exuberant puppy who doesn’t yet know her size, so she can accidentally knock over young children. Charlotte would do best in a home with older children instead. House Training Progress: Making great progress Crate Training Progress: Does well in the crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Charlotte is full of enthusiasm, joy and love! After a day full of vigorous play or hikes she is delighted to cuddle in her people’s lap and conk out for a while. Beware though – it does take a lot of exercise to wear this energetic puppy out. Charlotte is learning all sorts of manners: how to be calm and sit before she gets pets, what counts as a chew toy, and that counters are not for surfing! Gentle redirection is the name of the game for Charlotte. Priority will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria:  --Experienced dog owners only --Willing to participate in ongoing training --Have a 6' tall fenced back yard --Live in a quiet suburban neighborhood --Applicants without young children Name: Copeland Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 3 years old Weight: 60 lbs Personality: quick learner, playful, funny, protective, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, energetic, snuggler, eager to please, good running partner Observations with Dogs: Copeland gets along with many dogs, especially active female dogs, but he'd like to be introduced slowly. He would love a home with a large dog to play with in the yard. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Copeland likes children but, given his size, he could easily knock down a young child. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate Location: Needs DC area foster/adopter Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, energetic, and loving dog who has been overlooked by prospective adopters for two years! He pounces on toys like a champ and is generally a goofy and happy "Scooby Doo" pup. He wants to bring all of his joy to his adopter! Copeland loves to learn. He knows "let's go", "sit", "go to mat", "trade", "go get it", and "come". He would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard in which he can feel secure and fully express his playful nature. Copeland is very loyal and wants a slow introduction to people and dogs, but bonds with his caregivers and can make other human and canine friends. He gets along with some people instantly, but he needs time to adjust to others or he will bark. Because he gets barky, it's helpful to put him in a crate or another room when a handyman visits, for example, and he'd rather be in a yard than out on frequent walks where he could meet a lot of scary strangers. For that reason, a quiet suburban environment would be the best fit for him, along with a canine buddy to play with. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. He sleeps well throughout the night in the crate too. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Here are some things you need to know about Huxley: 1. He is total fan of real dog bones. 2. He lives to be outside exploring with his people. 3. He is wicked smart and very adaptable. 4. If he were a highschool athlete he would definitely be on Track & Field. 5. He cuddles like an all-star.  Bottom line - Huxley is a fun, super energetic cudle bug. He needs future humans who enjoy helping him get his wiggles out and who want to spend a lot of time playing with him. As a smart, energetic adolescent pup, Huxley needs humans who are enthusiastic about helping him with training in order to him control his impulses and redirect his energy on walks or play puzzle games with him at home. Huxley even travels like a champ. His foster family recently described his road tripping skills as "perfect" after he spent his time sleeping and relaxing in his crate on a recent 6 hour road trip! CDCK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
