1 year old, 53 lb., pointer mix, Honey, has the perfect name because she’s sweet as honey! She was found as a stray in the rural south, taken to a shelter where she was vaccinated and spayed, and quickly adopted by the young lady who found her. Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep Honey because of her living situation, so she gave Honey to her parents, who also could not keep Honey because one member of the family is severely allergic to dogs! So poor Honey has been to four different places in a month. Right now she’s with us and hopefully she’ll find her forever home very soon! Honey is in doggy daycare and plays well with other dogs. She lived with cats for a short while and seemed very curious about them, but she was never allowed close enough to them to confirm her intentions! So the verdict is still out on how she is with cats. Honey is still very puppy-like. She loves to jump on you and is still very mouthy so would not do well in a home with very young children. Kids can mistake mouthiness for biting so we’d rather Honey go to a home with older children who understand boundaries around dogs or to an adult-only home. She is housetrained. According to her former family, she only had one accident and was always fine sleeping, without any accidents, through the night. Apply for Honey today; she’ll make a fantastic addition to your family! PAW places animals in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area only. show less

Rocky, a PAW volunteer favorite, is a stunning four-year-old treeing walker coonhound who weighs about 70 pounds. Everyone who knows him is in love with him! He’s an affectionate companion who enjoys exploring trails, trotting down sidewalks, or just sitting next to you on the ground cuddling.  He wriggles his behind and prances with his front paws when he knows he’s going for a stroll. While out and about, Rocky simply glances at the people and other dogs along the way.  Rocky relishes human affection—he especially delights in ear massages. Also, when you scratch his neck under his jaw, he points his nose straight up to the sky and closes his eyes.   Rocky’s furever home should be a calm household with dog-experienced adults (older teens are fine too) where he is the only dog. He will thrive with stability and lots of affection. A yard is not necessary if his humans take him for vigorous walks and sniffing-based adventures! Our hunch is that he’s not the best match for kitties.   This boy needs time to grow comfortable in a new environment, as all dogs do. He will reward the right people for their patience with hours of goofy hound entertainment and years of love and loyalty.  PAW places animals in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area only, but are willing to place him outside of that area for the perfect home for him! show less

Simba is a 1.5 year old, 57 lb., Husky mix.  He is very sweet with people and other dogs and has a TON of energy!! He wants to play play play! Simba would definitely do best with a very active person/family that loves to go hiking or for runs daily. His previous shelter notes that he is very affectionate, loves attention and to be petted.   His short-term foster mom says the following: “Simba had such a great weekend. We walked around the Naval Academy, took him to Bass Pro, and he had a pup cup! No accidents inside and I would argue had better house manners than a lot of other dogs we have had. He knows sit, waits patiently for his meals, and plays fetch. There was no begging or counter surfing during food prep or dinner. We did not crate him at all, he had free reign of the house and slept all night. He LOVES to give kisses.  He was quick to settle down after our walks and lounged on the couch with us. If anything startles him or he is unsure he will sit between your legs for reassurance. It took awhile for him to settle down with our other dog Daisy, but she can be testy sometimes.  He picks up on commands very quickly and was very responsive to his name.” Do you have room in your home for this lovely young guy?
