This pup Love Love Loves other dogs and would love a dog companion.  They just made their way to foster homes from our Georgia transport so we will update as we learn more about them. All three were neglected / abused at their previous location. When animal control got involves no one would claim any of the pups and Brigit had two broken hind limbs (she has had corrective surgery already on one, scheduled for second). All three were very fearful of contact and very thin. They are filling out, are healthy and beginning to accept humans are “good Things” - poached chicken has had a lot to do with that! They are looking for a loving home with someone who has the time to devote to raising and training an active pup! They are not house trained, these pups WILL NOT walk on a leash when they arrive. Be prepared to carry a warm, licking puppy home! You will need to take time to leash train them after they have had some time to get to know you. Please apply at crossyourpaws.com if you are interested in giving a forever home. If you have an application on file- please message us on Facebook -do not email! Hi y'all, my name is Elle! I came in from Kentucky with the need for my eye to be removed 😢. The man that surrendered me said I was 8 years old and when he found me at 1 year old, my eye was already injured. I WENT 7 YEARS WITHOUT MY EYE REMOVED AND IN SEVERE PAIN! Even though life is unfair, I am SO happy to have arrived in PA. I was immediately schedule for an eye removal surgery and spay at the same time. Unfortunately, my eye got infected after four days internally and I went right back to the vet. The vet had to Reopen my eye socket and clean everything out and restitch everything back together. I was back at square one post op. LUCKILY, I am on day 8 from my eye surgery and have less than a week left before my stitches can be removed. 🙏❤️ I am on the mend, no signs of infection, and only have a few days left of finishing my antibiotics.    as of today, I wiggle, jiggle, wag my tail, smile, and LOSE MY MIND with excitement of being with humans. Being pain free is THE BEST and I can finally enjoy my life! I hunker a little when someone reached to touch me but am learning kindness comes from human touch and no one will ever hurt me again.    if you're interested in giving me the good life, full of love, cuddles, a little play, more cuddles, all the pets, treats, yummy food, head massages, dance parties in the kitchen, more treats, breakfast in bed, hugs, kindness, more dance parties, kisses, high fives, and more breakfast in bed, I'm your girl 🤪🥰😉 applications can be submitted at crossyourpaws.com   show less

Howie Newfoundland 1.5 years old 102lbs Male- neutered last week Howie was given up by his first owner after almost a year and half because they had unexpected medical issues. He had spent a bunch of time outside and was not exposed to normal things in life as most puppies are which has made him fearful of day to day activity. A nice local family took him in and he was neutered after ten days of being with them. He was brought home and 5 hours after being neutered “bit/mouthed” the woman that owned him in the face. The owner was then scared of Howie and the bond was broken due to fear. They did not feel comfortable keeping him and were scared but wanted him to be safe so she was able to get in contact with a CYP foster family to take him in. There is no way to say if this was intentional, mouthing, or anesthesia loopy drug feeling. He did not growl or continue biting when this situation occurred.  He has been in his new foster home for a week with zero sign of aggression. The owner that had him for a year also informed us of zero signs of aggression. He shows zero signs of resource guarding either. Unfortunately, everyone sees the beautiful calm, adult Newfoundland's and aren't as educated on the work and training needed for an XL breed from puppy to teenager then to the calm adult!! He needs training just like any typical 1.5 year old pup! Howie is potty trained and sweet as pie. He does like to romp and play in the yard. He has favorite toys he likes to run around with in his mouth but is super gentle with them.  If you are interested in giving a sweet big bundle of Howie a second chance at a good life…. Lola is 8 years old and weighs 65lbs (slightly underweight). She is a Great Pyrenees mix. Lola is an absolute joy! She is very loving and affectionate. Lola would do best with older children who understand giving her space when needed. She gets along well with other dogs and when she was in the shelter in Kentucky, she wasn’t bothered by the shelter cat.  In the house, she is pretty mellow. She likes to look out the window and even watches TV! She has a curious mind and is very interested in the small critters outside like squirrels and rabbits. For this reason, she will do better with a fenced in yard so that she has the freedom to run and not accidentally injure herself on a lead. She WILL chase after anything that catches her eye. So far, she hasn’t shown much interest in toys, but she did chase after a ball. Just chased it, didn’t fetch it. This interest could be fostered into a fun activity for her.  She is rather quiet and not much of a barker. That may change as she becomes more comfortable. She did alert her foster mom when she heard something outside and ran to the back door. She will be a great warning system for her family. Great Pyrenees have a reputation for being very loyal and loving family dogs and although she’s a mix, we have seen this trait in her from the beginning. Lola is very food driven. She eats VERY quickly. Once she knows that her meals are coming on a regular basis, she will probably slow down. A slow feeder bowl would benefit her until this behavior stops. She LOVES treats too!  As far as basic commands, Lola hasn’t learned any in her 8 years.  She will need an adopter who is willing to continue working with her through the learning process. Her intelligence and desire for treats and positive reinforcement should make the process pretty easy. We haven’t had much of an opportunity, since she arrived, to work on leash manners, but the little experience we've had with her on a leash leads us to believe she will need work in this area as well.  Lola would probably do best in a home without a lot of steps. She seems intimidated by the stairs in her fosters home. She can climb them, but we feel that due to her age and her breed’s tendency for joint issues, her forever home should be one level. She would be much happier without a mountain to climb every day.  FOSTER MOM’S OVERALL OPINION ON LOLA: A wonderful family dog! She’s still very active for her age, yet fine to snuggle with you on the couch while you watch a movie. You may need to remind her that she’s not a lap dog! She does love it outdoors as well. Please don’t let her age intimidate you. There is nothing better than the love and loyalty you will get from a senior dog. Personally, I’ve rescued 2 seniors in the past and hands down, they were the BEST dogs I’ve ever had! It’s like they know they’ve been given a second chance and will thank you every day for the rest of their lives!  Please apply at crossyourpaws.com if you are interested in giving a forever home. Lylac is still looking for her forever home! Hi, my name is Lylac and I'm around 2 years old a 53 lb bundle of cuddles and kisses. The first two years of my life weren't great. I was hungry all the time but since I came to Pittsburgh I get regular meals and treats! I used to live in a backyard cage but now enjoy such luxuries as sleeping in bed and watching TV on the sofa. I’m a little shy when I meet new people but warm up quickly. I love car rides and even got to go visit a farm where I met cats, chickens, dogs, and horses! There was even a horse named Lilac at the farm. I don’t know why they spelled her name weird but she was a pretty cool girl. I like going on walks but am happy to snooze the day away too. Do you like to sleep in on a Sunday morning? Me too! I’m still learning some stuff and need patience but am picking things up fast. I am spayed, housetrained, quiet (foster mom hasn’t heard me bark yet), and love to chew on my toys. I like older kids and other dogs so if you have them I’m good with it! I am looking for my furever best friend who wants to sit out on the porch with me and go on adventures. Please apply at crossyourpaws.com if you are interested in giving a forever home.
