Albert is an approximately 3 year old, 13 lb. little shihtzu mix gentleman who was found running in the middle of a four lane highway. His foster family loves his sweet, calm, and gentle personality and can't wait to help him find his forever family in a nice quiet home where he will thrive!  Albert was crate trained and potty trained when he was found. He has been fully vetted and neutered since coming into foster. He appears to have some environmental allergies (eye discharge) and has some crooked bottom teeth that the vet says may need to be removed someday. Albert doesn't shed much but will need routine grooming.  Albert loves quiet, cozy time, and will curl up on the couch with his foster mom and foster dad at any time of the day. Albert seems to really enjoy being held by his humans. He gets along great with new people he's met, including several polite children from two to eight years old, and has done extremely well with all other dogs he's encountered. Albert has not yet met a cat that we are aware of. Albert has bonded really nicely with his foster brother Sammy (1 year old 25 lb rescue poodle mix) and enjoys playing with him and going on walks. Albert is very good in public and is super well behaved at various coffee shops, breweries, and restaurants. He generally curls up on his blankie and goes to sleep. He's been on one vacation with his foster family and is happy to ride in the car in either his crate or his seatbelt harness. Alberts dislikes include being cold, having his face washed, getting his sweater put on, and getting his nails done at the groomer.  Aside from spending time with his foster family, Albert loves three things most of all: Curling up in a nest of blankets, his daily Greenie, and belly rubs.  Albert would be the best fit with a family who is home a lot. (He is extremely well behaved while his foster parents are working from home.) Albert would be great for someone who travels and would like to take him with them.  He would be suitable as an only dog or with another low energy dog-friendly dog that he could snuggle and play with. Albert can't wait to find his forever home!  show less

Sweet Autumn Momma did not have the best start at life, but she is making up for lost time now.  Autumn is approximately 4 years old, possibly younger, and 17 lbs.  She came into rescue with her five 8 week old puppies, and was incredibly attached to them.  She is still a timid and nervous little lady, but she has gone from having her tail tucked between her legs to wagging it nonstop as she prances around the house and yard following around her favorite humans, specifically her foster dad.  She loves to be snuggled up with her foster family, and is great with kids.  She will definitely take some time to adjust to a new setting and family, but once she does, she is the best pup and is so lovable.  She at first seemed to be unsure how to play with toys, but she has started chewing on her bones and rolling around with toys.  She also LOVES treats!  She doesn't mind other dogs if they give her space at first, and she can often be found watching them play from a distance.  She would do well as an only dog, or with dogs on the calmer side.  Autumn is housebroken and crate trained, and is UTD on vaccines.  She was not a huge fan of the leash or walks at first, but she is learning that walks can be fun.  She needs a patient, compassionate, loving family (or person) that will let her take the time and space that she needs to feel comfortable and at home. Once she is comfortable, she is PERFECT.  If you are looking for a little best friend who has so much love to give, apply for Autumn Momma today at Paws Across Pittsburgh. show less

Reintroducing Lyla (Formerly Biscotti) a 20 month old super sweet cuddly girl with a rough start to life at no fault of her own! Lyla thought she had found her furever home, but she was returned to Paws a few months later. She is looking for a fresh start with someone who will give her the structure, training and the boundaries she needs after having so much inconsistency the first couple years of her life. Lyla absolutely LOVES her humans and will build the strongest bond that will last a lifetime with anyone that shows her kindness (or feeds her). She may come off shy at first but once she feels comfortable, she will give anyone more love than they could ever ask for (no seriously, there are never enough pets and doggie kisses for this lover girl). Lyla is crate trained and potty trained (impressive right?!) She is doing great with her leash training and other commands… Lyla is a people pleaser and is very smart! Lyla does a great job entertaining herself while her foster mom works from home. She lays in her bed without a peep and enjoys some alone time in her crate throughout the day. Lyla loves her toys, bones, car rides and especially playing fetch…she is very fast and athletic! Because Lyla loves her people so much, she can get protective over sharing her human’s attention with other dogs. Though she has done well coexisting with dogs in the past, at this time, Lyla would do best in a single dog home. Are you the one that can give Lyla the love, training, and routine she deserves?!   show less

Finn is an estimated 8 year old, 50 lb terrier mix.  Finn was found chained up in horrible conditions, sad and unloved.  His 'home' was a falling apart dog house and his 'freedom' was a five foot chain.  Upon entering foster, Finn didn't know how to receive human touch and he had never lived in a warm home before. What is beautiful is he now seeks attention from his foster and will do the cutest lean in when you get him in the right spots.  He's really loving the family home life with regular meal times and opportunities for pets!  He is most often seen laying on the ground near his favorite 'human'. He's a chill dog who loves to go for short walks.  He is low activity overall. Finn has a medical diagnosis, with Cushings Syndrome.  Symptoms include incredible thirst, unsatiable hunger, pott belly, significant hair loss, and heightened arousal.  He is currently on medication which is successfully reducing his symptoms.  He should have a full life with continued medicine treatment and monitoring. Finn went from no home skills to fully house trained, crate trained, and knows a few basic commands.   He is currently living with three other dogs in foster but can be unpredictable especially with male dogs that are unneutered or a dog that shows any sign of aggresion towards him.  He will also guard his food from other dogs but has no aggression to humans near his food.  Finn is not aggressive towards humans at all, however his foster did get nipped in the leg when breaking up a fight with him and another foster who growled at him. The bite was not intended for the foster mother, but it is important to know that for this reason Finn will need to be your one and only for his remaining years. I know there is someone out there who would love Finn in his final years.  Let's find Finn the loving forever home he deserves!   show less

Are you looking for a pocket sized shepherd dog with amazing house manners? Look no further! Gypsy is a beautiful, 3 year old GSD mix that demonstrates many traditional GSD characteristics: loyal, steady, smart, training-oriented, and prone to ultra-silly-goober tendencies when relaxed.  This pup is a dream in the home. She's crate-trained, house-trained, and incredibly friendly and sweet to everyone she has met. Gypsy is decently food motivated and she has a very gentle mouth, making training time with her extra enjoyable! She's relaxing enough to start playing with her fosters and enjoys a tug rope, but can take or leave your fetch game, thanks.  So far, it seems Gypsy is a bit shy around other dogs, especially overly loud or boisterous ones. If she were to live with another dog, she'd need a meet and greet, and that pup would probably need to be a fairly dog-savvy dog themselves! As we continue to help her build confidence, we will keep her bio updated on her dog preferences.  She's done very well with the older children she's met, but does jump a bit, so we'd recommend older children while she works on this habit. Her shelter notes say she's good with cats, but we haven't had a chance to see this ourselves Works in progress: At the moment, Gypsy has approximately zero leash manners. However, given how trainable she's been in other situations, we have no doubt she will develop these skills quickly with a consistent, experiened owner that's committed to the task. She also currently loves a good couch/bed a bit too much for our liking, so she's still learning to sleep on her own bed, instead of the queen-sized guest bed she prefers :)  She has the merest hint of separation anxiety when either of her fosters leave the house, so for this reason (and many more), we highly recommend you continue crating her early and often. She does amazingly her crate, so this shouldn't be a problem.  Other notes: As her foster, we can't stress enough: this is an amazing pup. She's very trainable, very loving, and very silly. She will be an incredible companion to a loving adopter for many years. We'd encourage any adopter to continue training her, as she thrives with a bit of structure and it quells her anxious tendencies To borrow a line from Big Fluffy Dog Rescue – "If you ask me if she sheds, you can't have her." They're called German Shedders for a reason, folks :)  Apply to find out more about Gypsy today!  show less
