Aayla is currently in Brooksville, FL but ready to travel to a new home because she is ready to start her new life!  Her foster home is a lot of fun because there are lots of other dogs to play with.  She loves them all too!  We also know that she really likes the kiddie pool and rolling in the dirt after to get as filthy as possible.  She is doing good with housebreaking training along with crate training.  This sweetie has a beautiful blue eye but she is hearing, NOT deaf like many have asked.  Her beautfiful blue and brown eyes are a unique trait and surely an attention getter! Adopting from DC Dogos means you will get 3 initial phone training sessions with our trainer and it is expected for our adopters to complete training with our dogs.  We ask that applicants do intensive research on the breed before deciding on bring a dogo to your home.  They are a wonderful breed to have in the family but they are not a breed for everyone!  As loving and loyal as they can be they are equally strong and stubborn! This breed is not comparable to any other breed out there as they are very unique. They require a lot of exercise and stimulation along with stong boundaries in the home. Everyone in the home is expected to take part of the training and routine requirements for dogs adopted from our program to make sure they are successful in their placement! Our rescue offers endless support to our adopters because our dogs are extremely important to us!  Along with initial training we cover up to date vetting (vaccinations, fecal, HW test), spay/neuter, chip, and chip registration. Currently in San Antonio, TX, Abby is looking for the perfect home where she can chill and be loved!  She is a really good girl and extra sweet according to her foster.  Abby gets along with the other female and male dog in the home and integrated with them both. She would love to have furry siblings in her next home but she is also perfectly happy with her humans. We don't know how she would do around cats and plan on a home without small children due to her delicate front right leg.  We know that Abby is about 3 years old and that she suffered a massive leg break as a puppy.  This was never given any medical attention so it healed on it's own and set in place. We had X-Rays and the vets all agree that there is nothing surgical that can be done at this point and to make sure she is comfortable. Abby uses the leg and we are going to see if a splint makes her life any easier. Her next home just needs to be one she could easily get around in and gets losts of love! Since being with DC Dogos she has learned a lot about being an inside dog and is now housetrained. She really loves to hang out and lay on her back like dogos tend to do! She really is a sweet girl and we cannot believe how wonderful she is despite that injury she has.  Abby also shows signs of hip dysplasia onset and her new family will need to keep her on daily joint meds, good food, and moderate exercise.  When we got Abby she was "cow hocked", meaning her knees bent inward on her back legs. Now that she gets proper exercise and not in a crate 24/7 she has really shown a lot of improvement and we expect that to continue! Her foster says her cow hocked back legs are barely even noticable now.  TLC and proper care goes a long way! For more information about Abby you can contact us at paws@dcdogos.org. Her current foster is moving and we need to find her a new home in June and we prefer it to be her furever home if at all possible! show less

Originally a Florida gal, Angel is a 6 year old Dogo Argentino who spent about 7 months at a humane society shelter, where she was loved and adored by all staff and volunteers!! She loved seeing her people and giving kisses every single day.  She currently lives in Conyers, GA but willing to travel to her new family! Angel really loves to eat, especially if it involves peanut butter! She gets so excited to eat and she will tell you all about it too! Angel does play with another male dogo but seems to prefer to be around her human instead. Angel likes to be the dominant one and we feel that she would do best in a home without female dogs...or cats.  Now, Angel is going through training in Georgia to learn some basic manners. She is a good girl who has shown to be friendly with people, and even children! They are working on her socialization techniques with other dogs now that she knows she's in a safe place.  Angel has some funny little anxieties that are cute- it seems that everything is new to her, and she's got the excitement of a puppy to see the world! She has a whole world to experience so we are taking it step by step with this sweetheart. Angel is ready to be adopted to a home that has the time and patience to continue working on her training. The rescue does provide initial training but the adopter needs to take it from there and make sure she continues to be a wonderful Dogo. Angel has a strong will to chase and catch squirrels and any other critter she gets a glimpse of!  Cats are off limits for her so a no cat home is a must.  Updates about Angel will be provided as we continue to learn more about her and watch her progress through training!! Bianca was recently saved from the streets of Puerto Rico on 2/26/19. Some people reached out to the rescue about a dog living in a park with another dog for about a month on their own. Some kind rescue friends in Puerto Rico quickly came to her rescue and brought her to the vet to get some much needed attention. She was SO happy to have human interaction and did great at the vet too.  She has been a total love right from the beginning despite how abandoned she must have felt.  She really loves her people and cherishes every kiss she gives! Now Bianca is living in the Loxahatchee area of south Florida with a foster mom.  She is a really good girl and everyone says she is a lot of fun. Her energy is going to make you smile no matter what! She is good around other dogs and while in PR they helped her with professional training and she did very well with socialization and that must continue so she stays on this path to success.  She is about 3-4 years old we think and probably was a mama at some point in her past.  Bianca is looking for a family that wants a fun dog they can play with and take on walks....she loves going on walks!  She wants to be an inside dog and have places to play and have fun.  Bianca has a habit of stealing shoes so we are working on that little issue so her new family must be able to give her lots of toys and places to run and enjoy the outdoors too.  If you are interested in Bianca please apply or email us at paws@dcdogos.org.  You can also learn more about the rescue at www.dcdogos.org.  We do help arrange little to no cost transport to their approved homes that are a really good fit. Also, Bianca needs a few things so if you like shopping here is her current wish list on Amazon! Please send a gift note so we know who to thank! Buddy is an 8yo male dogo currently living in northern Ohio with his foster. He gets along really well with her cats! He loves going on walks but does not like being in the yard.  He will go out to do business but then wants to go back in, unless going on a walk!  Adores people when he's not on his territory.  He would be a great pet therapy dog if he could tone down his enthusiasm several degrees.  He does kiss on the first date. Buddy has decided that he likes peanut butter on his toast.  Likes pizza, but prefers thin crust......watching his waistline.  You won't have to wash out your cereal bowl when you are done with breakfast, Buddy will gladly do that for you! He knows his basic commands and manners.  He is a senior but doesn't act like one in regards to his health and how well he gets around.  Buddy took some time to adjust with the foster and really took it hard when his world was flipped upside down and had to leave the only family he know. He was resistant but has really come a long way. He will need an experienced adopter and one with the patience to let him trust at his pace. Buddy has found the perfect foster as the stepping stone to his next home. We would not recommend a home with children since we do not know how he is around them and given his strong mindset we think a nice home with an experienced handler is best. He is very protective of his home!  Out in public he is not that way! For more information you can email us at paws@dcdogos.org. show less

Jada was found with her puppy, Willow, in an industrial area near Oakland, CA. Both were underweight, starved for food and attention, sick from parasites and exposure, and even sprayed by a skunk. They had recently had their ears cropped, an especially cruel experience for an adult dog, like Jada. Jada was especially tired and weary of strangers, from caring for Willow. Though DC Dogos initially intended to place Jada and Willow as a bonded pair, several weeks of evaluation and decompression revealed a need for Jada and Willow to start new, separate journeys, so they both can have their best chance. Jada has come to love and trust her foster family quickly. She is playful with her male dogo foster brother and affectionate toward her foster family. She enjoys cuddling, playing with toys, and lounging on the furniture. However, she has demonstrated stress, fear, and protective reactions to unfamiliar people and places, especially around Willow.  These behaviors likely stem from suspected past abuse and from having to protect Willow during their time on the loose. Jada is currently working on learning to develop trust, confidence and basic obedience with her loving foster family.  Jada will do best in an adult-only, low-stress home, with a consistent routine and few strange visitors. Jada is a mama's girl at heart but she would also appreciate a kind, loving, gentle dad. Her ideal "fur"-ever family will be committed to continuing her training--consistent and firm in establishing expectations for Jada but very patient and affectionate. Jada would love a fenced yard, with an easygoing male canine friend and a soft dog bed for naps. We welcome applications for Jada, but please be patient as we work on Jada's training. Preference will be given to adopters local to Arizona and able to attend a meet and greet prior to adoption. A special thanks to these donors for sponsoring Jada and her puppy, Willow, from sick and stray, to happily ever after! Polaris "Po" is a young deaf female currently living in Ft. Myers, FL with her foster mom.  She has a great older mentor sister figure showing her the ropes around the farm!  She cannot hear a thing but responds very well to learning and surely is a good girl.  Po was found on the streets by a cop who took her to the local shelter so we don't know anything about her history before us. We do know that she is dog friendly and kid friendly too.  She is trying to figure out what the big dog-like things are on the property and very curious to learn more about them....we call them horses!! Deaf dogs make wonderful pets for the right homes.  They need a family with patience and willingness to be consistant with training and hand signals.  They also need a family that will keep them safe from danger since they cannot hear things to alarm them, such as car horns if trying to cross a road. They need a home with very friendly dogs since they do not hear the cues dogs give when another dogs takes playing a little too far! Our rescue provides training to our adopters to help initiate the proper professional methods that need to be used for this breed and the special needs like deafness. You can look up more information about deaf dogs at www.deafdogsrock.org to learn more!  show less

RIO IS MISSING FROM THE SAN ANTONIO, TX AREA.  We decided to keep his profile up to help spread the word.  We love all of our rescues and have put forth a lot of time and money in searching for him and will continue to do so until he is back with the rescue. Please keep an eye out for him on social media and locally if your in the San Antonio area.  Rio is looking for someone that will like to talk him on long walks so he can enjoy the fresh air and daydream about actually catching one of the squirrels that cross his path. He is a strong but obedient when directed by his assertive handler. Just like all male dogos, Rio loves to test his boundaries and needs to be reminded of his place in your pack! He understands commands and responds well to training and corrections.  He may look tough on the outside but he is a big mush when it comes to giving some love!  He also loves chews and squeaky toys! But his favorite item in the world is a security blanket that he takes everywhere, even when he goes outside to do a little sunbathing! Rio found himself a stray in Puerto Rico after Hurrican Maria and recently traveled to Texas with the family that helped him.  He is a 3 yo friendly neutered healthy Dogo Argentino that loves the older children (10+) in his life. He wants a home where he can run and play with his humans and other non-dominant dogs. Rio says he wants a family that will give him lots of lovins'!  If you want a shadow to follow you around, Rio says he loves doing that! Rio is described to be friendly, active, playful, smart, and affectionate by his current humans. Right now he is spoiled with a tasty raw diet that is making a big difference in his recovery after being a stray with no food after the hurricane.  His first home when he got to Texas had an intact male Cane Corso and the two didn't  seem to want to share the same territory. Rio arrived to the States in late February and now needs a home that better suits him. He is dog friendly but needs a home without another alpha dog. He sounds to be textbook Dogo in regards to his traits, personality, and handsome good looks!  Rio is housetrained, crate trained, not a digger, not a fence jumper, good with older kids (no toddlers), and good with meeting new people too! He is very well behaved and eager to learn and please his humans!  He is currently located near Houston, TX but willing to relocate.  Tranpsort can be arranged for the perfect home! Rio is a member of the DC Dogos Inc family and you can learn more about us and him at www.dcdogos.org. show less

My name is Sage! I am 4 years old and soon to be the love of your life! My foster mom says everyone that meets me falls in love. My first owners never socialized me with other dogs properly, buckily my current foster mom is a dog trainer and behavior specialist and has been helping me learn “how to dog.” I play really well with my medium-sized foster sister and I want to play with my little-sized foster sister but she gets a little scared because I’m so strong. My foster mom says I am the most perfect dog in the world, the only thing is that I am very protective of her. This especially comes into play with my medium-sized foster sister. I just want to make sure she listens to our mom and I don’t like when she gets too excited especially around toys. I have tried to put her in her place a couple of times now; our mom doesn’t like it even though I’m just trying to help. To be honest, I’m more of a people person than a dog person. I can have a future dog sibling but I am dog selective. I would do best with a dog sibling that either has low energy or can play when I want, but is very respectful of my space. I would need a slooooowwwww introduction (my foster mom can help). I do okay around cats, but my foster mom wouldn’t trust me alone with them. I also do the best with older kids. Little ones just have way to much energy for me. I love snuggling up next to you, putting my head on your lap, stealing your spot on the couch (even though my mom doesn’t let me on the sofa; I still get one when she’s not looking). I get a little nervous around storms but with my bed away from windows, you in the room, and a blanket over me, and I’ll be okay! My foster mom LOVES that I have never destroyed anything and I am proud of that too! I am potty trained and will let you know when I have to go (also when I’m really hungry). I walk really well on leash and would do great on a hike if I continue my training. I also know sit, lay down, paw, place, & leave it! My foster mom loves me so much she is willing to give my next family a free training session. I would LOVE to stay either in the Chattanooga or Nashville area. That way I can still see my foster mom from time to time (I love her so much) and she can continue my training for free! show less

Willow is estimated to be 6 - 8 months old. She was found wandering near Oakland, CA with another female dogo presumed to be her mom. Both were hungry, covered in bites, sprayed by a skunk, with their ears scabbed and filthy after a recent crop. Willow also had a serious UTI, which caused the formation of struvite crystals in her urinary tract. Despite rough beginnings, Willow is a loving, sensitive, smart girl who is very eager to please. She can be shy at first, but quickly bonds with humans (especially women!) and other dogs. Willow currently gets along with dogs of all genders, sizes and temperaments. No cats please! She has not been exposed to children, but her temperament is well-suited for a dogo-savvy home willing to nurture good behavior through training for both Willow and any young, human siblings. Willow's ideal fur-ever home is in or near Phoenix, AZ where she is currently fostered, with a family who has lots of time to devote to her care and development. She loves cuddling, chewing nyla bones, playing with other medium-to-high energy dogs, and lounging around in her kiddie pool. Though Willow is crate-trained, she yearns to be with her humans and would do best in an environment where she is not left alone for long periods of time.  Willow is currently on a special urinary diet to dissolve struvite crystals in her urinary tract. While this special need is expected to be short-term, Willow's fur-ever family should be prepared to support any special needs on an ongoing basis. Her adopters must be willing to coordinate with DC Dogos to spay Willow at the age-appropriate time. DC Dogos has a strict no-breeding policy. A special thanks to these donors for sponsoring Willow and her mom, Jada, from sick and stray, to happily ever after!
