Annie was locked in an attic. She had been there a long time and put her head through a window and barked for help. A neighbor saved her and got ahold of DC Dogos to scoop her up! Let start with the best things about Annie. She is a lover and would be near you at all time if you allow her. Not only is she gorgeous but she has the sweetest soul ❤️ Eager to please but also stubborn like a typical Dogo. Very smart and you can never underestimate her! So let's talk about some of the more difficult things about her. She can escape a normal crate and likely a gate closure.(I've included a picture of her current kennel in the pictures of her profile) She needs something like that with a lock to ensure she is safe. She experienced food insecurity and because of that she will try to get to any food so it's best for her to be supervised and continue the training I've been doing to not open cabinets or counter surf. To adopt Annie you need to know that it could and should take up to a month or more before she is introduced to any dogs in the home if you want the best chance of success. She was repeatedly attacked by a dog and because of that she has many scars and many fears of dogs. She needs not only time to decompress in a new home but time to build trust before meeting another dog. She would do best with a submissive male or as an only dog. She loves small dogs but she also loves to get into some pretty rough play with large males once she is comfortable with them. Speaking of rough play, she is rough with just about every movement. She likes to invade your personal space, at all times, and forgets her strength and size. For that reason I would not have her around kids under 12. Even her affection can cause a bruise or two. Her best life would include working a laborious task, hunting, or something physically challenging. She has been cat tested but has not lived in a home where cats roam free so you would need the ability to keep her separate from cats if she doesn't do well with your specific cat. I would not recommend her with a female large dog because many female dogs can be unpredictable together. One minute or even for months they're fine and then they snap, and it is very hard to repair a relationship between a female Dogo and another female. She has interacted with a female great dane supervised for short periods of time but I would not trust them to be together without my full attention. No Dogo is easy, but if you're looking for an easy dog Annie is not for you. However, if you are looking for the absolute most loving -sweet soul, of a menace she is worth every second! show less

Echo is a giant 4 year old puppy who is loves to explore and play!  He is friendly with other dogs, both males and females and also good with older kids (16+).  Echo came from a family who had circumstances change and after they boarded him for a couple months they reached out to us and we were able to help.  He has a loving past and was also trained so his new foster will polish up on that training! Stay tuned for updates on Echo! He's young and full of playful energy that enjoys other dogs and going on walks. He's really enjoys training and catches on very quick. He probably would love going to training classes such as scent training, weight pull, agility, etc. Echo would do best with someone that is active and will be able to spend quality time with him. An adult home without young kids would be perfect for him.  In his current foster home located in Venice, FL he likes to play with his 2 year old dogo foster sister and they really have a lot of fun together!  He really enjoys having other dogs around so a home with other pets would be great.  The foster family would even keep him but their male Dalmation does not feel the same!  He really likes hanging out with the family and going on adventures.  Echo also likes meeting new folks and getting all kinds of attention.  He really has become a great dog while with this foster family and he will make a great new addition to whomever takes him home! ECHO'S BACKSTORY: He comes from a loving family who was no longer to keep him due to housing issues. With them he did get professional training and was loved very much. They had to put him in boarding for several months and finally DC Dogos was able to bring him into the rescue.  show less

We rescued Gina from a rural shelter after she was found roaming the woods with another Dogo, Tommy. Gina was a hot mess - heartworm positive, pregnant, emaciated with a yellow stained coat. Her first few weeks in rescue were tough on Gina as she had to be separated from her best friend Tommy, and then heartbreakingly lost her entire litter of puppies. Despite Gina's traumatic few weeks, nowadays she is the happiest girl in the world. Reunited with Tommy, they are both being fostered in the Atlanta suburbs where they spend their days playing with their dozens of toys, napping on their soft and comfy beds, and digging in the yard searching for moles. Gina loves her people and would happily spend all of her time with her humans, and she is so affectionate - this girl gives the best hugs!! Gina is well behaved and trained in basic commands. Gina's ideal home would be somewhere Tommy would be welcome, too (: Although Gina is good with other dogs (with a good intro of course) her ideal home would be one where her and Tommy could be the only dogs - giving their humans ample time to give them both the attention they deserve. Preferably people who like being outdoors, as they both adore spending time outside. No small children, as these two play hard and would knock over anything in their way! Due to Gina's health issues, she is currently going through slow-kill heartworm treatment and will remain intact until our vet deems it safe enough to spay her, Any home interested in her would foster her until this time comes, with all medical expenses being covered by us. show less

Meet JOHNNY CASH!!    Aged somewhere between 6-8(?), Johnny is one of the sweetest boys you will ever meet! He was found wandering the streets of North Jersey, weighing only 65lbs!!! This boy was nothing but bones! His under belly, legs, and tail are all deeply stained with the evidence of being crated and left in his own excrement for a very long time. He is also blind in his left eye.    Since being in his foster home Johnny Cash has clearly loved being spoiled with baths (boy does this guy need them lol), multiple small meals a day to help him gain weight, and loooooooads of snuggles and cuddles from the entire foster family!. He is house trained, knows basic commands, and has lovely house manners. Not surprising, Johnny Cash is not a big fan of being in a crate. He will bark himself to sleep (😞) or until he is let out. Other than some slight pulling, he walks well in a leash. Because of the blindness in his left eye, he tends to lean to the left & does bump into things when he is super excited. Johnny happily excepts and appreciates some gentle guidance helping him navigate new surroundings. He gives kisses & takes treats oh so gently. And should you stop rubbing his belly, he moans in displeasure until you start up again. One of the cutest things about him (there are so many) is his bark. It’s low & raspy like a true legend should sound! Johnny Cash is very smart! Within an hour of being in his foster home, he learned which door to go to be let outside. In the same amount of time, he not only responds, but comes when his name is called!!!!!  Johnny Cash should be the ONLY dog in the home. He deserves to live out his life on the sofa or in your bed getting all of the belly rubs.  This boy is amazing! Get your application in, and adopt JOHNNY CASH NOOOOW! show less

Well hello there - my name is Kodiak! I am an approx 2 year old male Dogo and I was rescued from the shelter a few months ago. These nice people at DC Dogos say that it doesn't make sense that my original peoples never came forward to claim me after I was found roaming on the side of the Florida turnpike - as I am perfect! Apparently, there's a book called "dictionary" and next to the word "PERFECT" is my handsome face, who knew! What else can I say about myself, did you hear I am perfect? I like all of the humans, big, small, loud, quiet. I like ALL of the dogs - from rambunctious puppies, to that calm, collect & classy older female. My ideal pack would be playful and match my happy and friendly energy! I like to think that everyone I meet is a stranger ready to be my new best friend, and get this.. I know commands too! Is your mind blown yet? Told ya, I AM PERFECT! I am ready to be that perfect person's "ride or die" Dogo, I am ready for adventures and I have been practicing my shotgun pose. I am healthy, happy and handsome, a triple H you might say! My new BFF may not even need breed experience, but a general idea of the breed after a decent amount of research is always best with us Dogos! I am currently giving kisses, getting back scratches & doing the Dogo lean in Tampa, Florida, but I am up for a road trip to my new perfect home, as long as I can ride shotgun! show less

Meet Lucy!! Lucy is a 4 year old adult female Dogo Argentino currently being fostered in Arizona. Lucy is about the sweetest female Dogo you will ever, ever find. Truly. She LOVES people! In fact, she will wiggle her whole body and cover you with kisses and snuggle with you. She will do best as an only dog in the home and will love her family unconditionally. She may look Dogo but she has the heart of a Labrador Retriever (for people). Lucy was recently spayed and is recovering in her foster home where she is showered with love, toys, and a big backyard where she takes her morning sun tans! She is doing fantastic on the leash and had a previous foster who was an incredible instructor. She taught Lucy how to feel safe when around other dogs and she has made excellent progress! Although Lucy has played well with other Dogos SUPERVISED, Lucy has gone through a few behavioral lessons and will continue to need supervision and instruction. Lucy will do well in any home where she is the only dog. She simply deserves a wonderful home where she'll never have to fight for attention again! Lucy would thrive in a home where she will be the sunshine of your life and the center of your world! She would love an active lifestyle but honestly would be happy as can be just to be by your side. She would much rather be with her people than playing out in a backyard alone. She is such a fantastic girl, she will make anyone happy!! If you think she's melted your heart and might be the Dogo you are looking for, please fill out an adoption application or feel free to reach out to the rescue with any questions you may have. Transport can be arranged for the right home.     show less

Mason was saved after being dumped at a shelter with two other Dogos - another rescue saved them and left poor Mason behind! How could we say no to his adorable face, of course we had to break him out! Now he's near Houston, TX and around a year old and has more energy than he knows what to do with. He is a sweet and loving boy! He is constantly pushing boundaries and needs a home that won't bat an eye while he tests the waters to see what he can and cannot get away with. His new home should have a strong alpha leader that understands a dog like Mason thrives on routine and structure, one that enjoys a dog that loves mental and physical stimulation and that is not afraid of a challenge. Mason will be an incredible dog but it is imperative that training continues and this handsome guy is kept firmly in his place. Once Mason settles into his routine he is an amazingly sweet, gentle and loving dog. He loves to play and will do anything for a piece of cut up hot dog, those are his favorite! Mason loves to lay on his bed and chew his Benebone in the company of his human and likes to pause his chewing and "check in" or say hi to his person every now and then. It's the cutest! Mason would like a home with a fenced in yard or a very outdoorsy/active person, no young children as Mason has been known to correct them, and no cats as Mason thinks kitties could be a tasty snack. Breed experience preferred! Also, he really loves playing with the girl dogs so a home with a female playment would be perfect! show less

*ADOPTED!!!* Rayne is currently a happy Florida pup that seems to just love everyone and everything there is about life!  She is a very confident girl and has no clue that being deaf is any different whatsoever!  This pup loves meeting new dogs of all sizes, colors, and genders.  She is not shy and learns her boundaries with them pretty quick. Just like most pups she loves toys all over the place and eating food.  Rayne thinks life is just great and even likes going on car rides.  This pup is going to make a great pet to a home that has the time and patience to properly train a deaf dog that will be a big deaf dog! Training is extremely important along with a home that has a safe and secure yard. She would love having other pets in her home, especially ones that are VERY friendly and can tolerate a dog that will not hear the cues they give. This is very important to understand when taking in a deaf pup so that the pets in the home are friendly and patient, just like her parents! Rayne will learn sign language to communicate and all the other training just like any other dog.  We prefer to place in a home with deaf pet experience but open to homes that have done the proper research and will be a good fit. Our goal is to make sure that she finds the perfect forever home where she will be safe, loved, and enjoy her entire life. Safety for deafies is even more important since they do not hear potential dangers, such as cars and other critters.  Rayne is open to traveling to a new home but it has to be perfect! If you are applying for Rayne be sure to give us as much information as possible about your home, pets, and experience. Dogos are a powerful, strong, loyal, and loving breed not fit for all homes even when the home is a great pet home! Training is key to success for any dog, especially one that is hearing impaired.  You can learn more about deaf dogs by going to deafdogsrock.org.  show less

** PENDING ADOPTION Saffron was dumped at a shelter by her person and she was shattered. The person who was the center of her universe abandoned her. Saffron gave up on everything. The noise and shelter environment were too much for her and she just couldn't take it. Saffron just wanted to die so all the stress and awfulness would finally come to an end. When she came into rescue, Saffron was just a shell. No personality, no joy and happiness, she just existed. Very s-l-o-w-l-y, she came to understand that a foster home is not a shelter. There are yummy treats doled out a whole bunch throughout the day. Hot dogs are yummy. Walks and car rides are fun. A sidekick to play with is FUN! Life became wonderful again. If you are Saffron's person/people, you ARE the center of her universe. She will love you with all her heart, 1,000%. She is very licky-kissey, and will gladly lick off 5 or 6 layers of skin. She has to have a canine buddy to help keep her brave, a brother would do best. She likes toys, especially ripping them apart. She likes to play, romp and run, and just have a grand ol' time. Saffron is choosy on who she likes and who is an axe murderer. Most of the people out there are axe murderers, and need to be avoided at all costs. In Saffron's mind, people are either good or axe murderers. People are either good or evil. And those axe murderer types? She refuses to even try to make up to them. Evil is evil, end of story. Oh, by the way, cats are axe murderers. Kitties are scary creatures. Saffron's new home will need patience. There is a loving and fun dog in that Dogo suit. Change isn't her forte. She is attached to her foster Mom. Switching loyalty to a new family will take some time. Patience is a virtue. Saffron is currently located in Ohio and is waiting patiently for her forever home. show less

Snow is 2 years old, who has been through a lot. She was found as a stray and brought to the shelter. Snow is going to need a special someone who has patience and experience with the Dogo breed. Snow is very leery of humans and will take time warming up to you but once she does she is very loving and loyal to her owners. Snow is in a foster family now and is doing well with her foster fur brother. Snow would do great in a home as a only dog or another male her size. No children or small pets. Snow is looking for the perfect someone that loves to work with a special rescue dog! Somebody abandoned her and she was found on the streets as a stray before making it to a shelter in northern Indiana. We were able to pull her the day she was scheduled for euthanasia and glad we did! We are certain that Snow is going to be one of those amazing transformation rescues once she finds her permanent home! Currently Snow is with one of our wonderful foster homes where she enjoys playing with their rescue male dogo. She really likes him but needs some work to have the confidence with other dogs. We don't know her struggles on the street before but surely this caused her to be on the defense when meeting strange dogs and people.  This is going to take some time and patience to help her overcome some of these fears but we know she can do it! We think Snow did not get enough proper socialization during her first critical years before being dumped so she can be shy and untrusting when meeting strangers.  Her new person needs to be someone that will help her work through this and gain the confidence she needs to not stress over these situations.  We definitely do not think that Snow is a 'broken' dog and we know the right home is out there for her. She deserves a committed person that will dedicate their heart to her mental wellbeing and help her be the confident dog she deserves to be! At only 2 years old, she has many bright years ahead of her and we can't wait to see her flourish with her new person!  show less

Stone has finally figured out that life is good. After over a month roaming the streets of metro Atlanta, Stone was trapped and taken to the shelter where he finally got to eat a meal he didn't have to spend hours searching for. The shelter staff contacted us and let us know that Stone was desperate for rescue, and we jumped at the chance to save this amazing young man. A nasty bacterial skin infection secondary to Demodex mange, Stone looked like he was dressed up as a naked mole rat for Halloween. Bright pink, no hair and scabs all over, this shy & timid sweetheart reminded everyone of a lost boy, with bilateral eye and ear infections to boot - Stone's neglect was obvious. Stone was curious yet extremely cautious, he was interested in making new friends but it seemed that he just had absolutely no idea how to navigate it. His "stone cold" stare seemed sad and confused, like he wasn't sure what was going to happen next. Fast forward six weeks, and we don't even remember who that dogo is. Stone smiles, he plays, he whines for attention and he adores his foster Dad the most! He is non reactive to other dogs, thinks kittens could make a decent midday snack, and although can be a bit nervous at first - loves humans and is getting great at making new friends. Stone is not quite ready for adoption, this approx year old male Dogo needs a little more time to gain all of the confidence he can possibly gain and then he will pack his bags at his foster home in Atlanta, and travel to any of the surrounding states for his forever home. His foster mama prefers he stay somewhat close just to ensure he can come back if need be, just in case. We love you Stone, you're doing amazing! show less
