💃🏻Ariel is a new intake and she is FLOURISHING in her new foster home! Ariel was rescued from a very unfortunate situation with her buddy Ren and their 4️⃣ puppies (aka the Breakfast Club pups). They have both been in their foster home for about a week and are thoroughly enjoying the inside life! 🐾   ✨From her fosters: “Ariel is feisty, courageous, very puppy-like and very smart. She learned how to open up our back door latch the first day she was with us!” She is curious and likes to explore the house but never strays far from her humans, especially her foster dad. She is playful and initiates most of the play with Ren. She is working on being house trained and crate trained too! 🐾   💃🏻Ariel will do well with a playful, male dog in the home with her. She will need basic training and lots of exercise to ensure she doesn’t get herself into trouble. She is loving and will probably be a velcro Dogo, judging from the past week! 🥰 She needs to gain about 10-20 pounds but is healthy otherwise. She will need strict boundaries to ensure she stays safe. 🐾   💃🏻Ariel is currently in Texas. We are willing to transport within reason. We are so grateful she and her partner Ren and her puppies were given a second shot at life. They are all wonderful dogs and will be fantastic additions to their new families! Ariel needs to move into a foster or adoptive home ASAP. 🐾 show less

Blade is currently getting all kinds of love and hugs in Tampa, FL. He's probably about 2 years old and a total lover boy who really enjoys being around his people. He is extremely friendly to everyone he meets and we haven't seen him react to any of the dogs. We will introduce him to dog soon and expect him to do well. Blade likes to just get as much attention from us as he can. He loves to give really tight waist hugs and wants to give you kisses all the time, he is unbelievably affectionate. If you don't like kisses and hugs and this is not the dog for you! We've only had him a short while and still learning a lot about his characteristics. He was very frail and malnourished but now gaining weight. He doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence but we see him gaining that each day. When he goes out he definitely prefers to be around his people versus independent time alone so a home that has a lot of attention to give would be perfect. He is a bit timid and shy in between being affectionate and just doesn't want to disappoint you. Did we say he's perfect? Well let's repeat that one more time, this dog is perfect! Blade was picked up in Naples along with five other Dogos in the area. We believe it was probably some sort of breeder dump. Sad to hear but we are glad that he's now in the DC Dogos family and will never experience that again.  show less

💙WELCOME BRUNO 💙 Bruno was rescued from West LA Shelter in Los Angeles CA with his mama Lola (we suspect!). They shared a kennel for 8 long months, cuddled on a cold concrete floor waiting for help 😢 Thank goodness for our AMAZING foster, who took them both in and has helped them remember what it's like to be dogs again! They are living the PNW dream!🌦️ 🧢After decompression and evaluation, we feel the best thing for Bruno and Lola is to adopt them separately. They have been successfully separated and are enjoying one on one human time! 🧢 🔵 Bruno is a stoic boy at about 2️⃣(ish) years old. He is still gaining confidence and understanding of what life outside of bars looks like! He is loving and silly! 🚙Bruno's FAVORITE activity is riding in a side by side with his foster dad🚙. He'll jump right in and enjoy the ride! He has been working on his basic commands, leash walking and also loves hiking! He is an absolutely GORGEOUS boy that has waited for his forever him for long enough!! Bruno would do best in a home WITHOUT other dogs, with a human that loves to exercise and understands and has patience for him. And owner MUST have an off roading vehicle!!! Kidding, but that would be a major plus! 🍃 🌀This sweet boy will require ongoing training and understanding that he does not do great with other dogs. He does have some leash reactivity to dogs that his foster is working on. He has been around farm animals and enjoys being outside. He is devoted and loyal and loves his humans. 🤟🏽Please consider adopting Bruno and giving him the life he has always dreamed of! 🚗 Bruno will be your shotgun rider for life!🚙 show less

Hi, my name is Claire! I am the teeny, tiniest Dogo you will ever see! I was rescued with my three siblings and parents from a severe neglect situation. I was just 23#! But don't worry, I'm happy and loved now in my foster home! I love to play with my Dobie foster sister and jump off things, just to keep my foster mom on her toes! I am a happy go-lucky puppy that loves to play and zoomie but also snuggle in a warm blanket or nap in the sun! I turned one year old in October but act and look much younger, probably because I was not given proper nutrition as a puppy.  I have seen a specialist veternarian called a Cardiologist and have had many tests. The doctors tell me I have a congenital heart defect that will need to be corrected. I know my foster mom and the DC Dogos team are working hard to get me into the appropriate interventionalist to help with this. Because of this heart defect, I likely will never grow as big as my brothers and sisters or other Dogos. I will also likely be limited to how much hard exercise I get a day, just to make sure my heart can keep up!  I am now 30# and sure am happy. I will not be up for adoption until my treatment plan is in place. I love my foster mama and she loves me so it's all good! Please keep checking in on my progress. I might be the world's first pocket Dogo!  show less

We rescued Gina from a rural shelter after she was found roaming the woods with another Dogo, Tommy. Gina was a hot mess - heartworm positive, pregnant, emaciated with a yellow stained coat. Her first few weeks in rescue were tough on Gina as she had to be separated from her best friend Tommy, and then heartbreakingly lost her entire litter of puppies. Despite Gina's traumatic few weeks, nowadays she is the happiest girl in the world. Reunited with Tommy, they are both being fostered in the Atlanta suburbs where they spend their days playing with their dozens of toys, napping on their soft and comfy beds, and digging in the yard searching for moles. Gina loves her people and would happily spend all of her time with her humans, and she is so affectionate - this girl gives the best hugs!! Gina is well behaved and trained in basic commands. Gina's ideal home would be somewhere Tommy would be welcome, too (: Although Gina is good with other dogs (with a good intro of course) her ideal home would be one where her and Tommy could be the only dogs - giving their humans ample time to give them both the attention they deserve. Preferably people who like being outdoors, as they both adore spending time outside. No small children, as these two play hard and would knock over anything in their way! Due to Gina's health issues, she is currently going through slow-kill heartworm treatment and will remain intact until our vet deems it safe enough to spay her, Any home interested in her would foster her until this time comes, with all medical expenses being covered by us. show less

We saved Jewel (formerly Harper) from a Houston shelter within hours of her euthansia deadline. She is heartworm positive, has demodex, and suffers from an old gunshot wound to her right front ankle. We think she is about 4 years old, possibly younger and has had a very difficult and rough life so far but it will never be that way again. She is timid and shy to humam touch but we know she will recover over time and come out of her shell as she learns to trust us! Stay tuned for updates and we expect the earliest she would be available for adoption is early June.  Update :Jewell has been in her new foster home for a few months now. Jewell is enjoying the home life and doing well with her foster brother. Jewell loves her daily walks and enjoys swimming in her pool or any water. Jewell would do best in a home that has another confident male dog, so she continues to gain confidence. Jewell has done very well with her foster dog brother and has gain confidence and learn how to be how to be a dog. Jewell is still HW positive and has several tick borne disease but is on treatment and is doing well and is ready for her forever home.    Update on Jewell from her foster mom and dad  Hi, my name is Jewel, or as my foster parents call me Juju, Ju bug, Miss  Sassy Pants or Miss Woo Woo. I am an expert in all things cuddling. I have a big personality but can be timid around new people. Due to my past I can lack confidence at times and look to my big brother and cousins on who I can trust and how to dog. But once I know you and know I can trust you, I will be your shadow and best friend! I love waking my foster parents up in the morning telling them all about my doggo dreams and adventures I had, hence the nick name Miss Sassy Pants and Miss Woo Woo. I really love to talk and express how happy and eager I am to eat and get my morning walk! Yes, despite me being HW+ and having some annoying tick borne diseases (which are being managed with medication) I am an excellent walking/ hiking buddy. Most days we get to walk 4+ miles a day. I have a great nose and eyes for all the critters. I love watching and smelling for them while I walk, it can be exhausting some times but I’m just doing my job! So, needless to say after that kind of activity I become an even better couch potato for the remainder of the day.  I am house trained, know some basic commands and am gentle and aware of my size around little people.  Oh, and how could I forget to mention… I LOVE the water! Lakes, ponds, pools, water bowls… truly whatever I can get to cool myself off. I’m from Houston after all. A girl had to learn how to keep herself cool! My foster parents call me extra because I got my own pool. But I can’t help it, I like what I like! Okay, so back to the matter at hand. If you are looking for a 95lb love bug who will be loyal and loving and potentially throw some sass around from time to time, I’m your girl! Please consider taking a chance on me, I promise you won’t regret it! show less

Marvelous Max has a very heartbreaking story.  DC Dogos rescued Max on 9/11/2022 after he was found by a couple in the Orlando, FL area roaming on a rural road. We know that in July of 2022 he did not have any injuries as we tried to rescue him from his owner but were told he was rehomed. Sometime between July and September he was hurt, possibly hit by a car. He was sent to a foster home in Louisiana to have another vet evaluate his injury. Other vets in Florida recommended against surgery but we found a vet that was confident they could do the repair. Pins and mesh were added to repair the broken bone. Max developed an infection soon after surgery before dressing was removed. He was given antibiotics (no cultures). The infection continued to persist and caused the pins to push out and have to be removed. Cultures were done and new antibiotics were given. DC Dogos Rescue decided to take Max to a new vet for a second opinion and they cultured the wound and gave him the appropriate antibiotics as what he was originally prescribed were not effective. The infection persisted so we tried another round and he appeared to have healed and was cleared to start rehab. The day prior to rehab the foster noticed infection break through the skin so rehab was cancelled and another culture drawn showing the same bacterial growth- which we found out was from the mesh that was implanted in his leg! After some very long thought out decisions with many veterinarians, we all agreed that it was in Max's best interest to amputate the leg due to the resistance of the bacteria present and concern of further complications. Max has not used this leg much at all since he has been under our care. He is an active almost 2 year old boy who has done very well handling all that he has been dealt.  UPDATE: Max had his surgery to amputate his leg and he is doing wonderful! He is walking around on 3 legs and happy as can be! Max is currently recovering in a neighboring state where his surgery was done. This is one Marvelous happy-go-lucky Max!  show less

🕺Ren is a new intake and is FLOURISHING in his foster home with his partner, Ariel. Ren was rescued from a very unfortunate situation with Ariel and their 4️⃣ puppies (aka the Breakfast Club pups). They have both been in their foster home for about a week and are thoroughly enjoying the inside life! 🕺 🐾Ren is a pretty chill guy. His fosters say he acts like a Great Dane, ready to play but also always ready to nap in the sun! 😴☀️ We just found out he is a water dog and loves to play with the hose and sprinklers! ⛲️ He is working on crate training and  house training currently and has pretty much got it! He is a quick learner and wants to please his humans. He’ll be so easy to train! ✨ 🐾Ren seems to have an issue with his vision in one or both eyes. He moves his head to the side to compensate. He does not seem to be bothered by it, he does not startle or become scared because of it. This could be congenital or due to poor nutrition for so long. Either way, he has the cutest little head tilt!🐾 🕺Ren would do well in a home with a female dog, as he is used to being with Ariel. He will require training an experienced handler. As these dogs have never known boundaries, his future family needs to understand that strict boundaries are a must to keep everyone safe. 🐾 🕺Ren is currently in Texas but can be transported within reason. He is a great boy that will be a fantastic addition to his future family! He will need time to decompress and relax at whatever home he goes to.🕺 show less
