PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE APPLYING Albert is the biggest hunk of chunk around. He is such a special dog, and we are looking for a very specific home for him. Albert has a past where his owners never set clear and proper boundaries, leaving Albert to be unsure and defensive. Albert is stubborn, through and through. He knows what he wants, and he will push his owner and handler around to get it. Unfortunatley, Albert hasn't learned proper ways of communicating, and uses his mouth and body weight to get what he wants. Albert has bitten his handler in the past, all over a resource that he was guarding.  Now, Albert has some incredible potential to be the best dog ever. Its important for us to let you know that though he is stubborn, resource guards, and can be hard to handle, he also is a squishy, loving boy.  What Albert needs is a home that is willing to continue his training, set clear boundaries, and keep him on a routine to avoid any issues. He is good with kids, but at this time we advise highschool age and older children to ensure his boundaires are met. Albert does well with exercise and structure, but too much "baby talk" and affection leads him to think he runs the house. A clear leader must be identified for Albert to be a successful dude.  Our preference for his future family is that they have Bulldog experience and understand the dog breed.      Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation. Hi my name is Athena, and I am a sweet 1.5-year-old German Shepherd and Anatolian Shepherd mix (I think!). I am very petite (only 60 lbs.) and so so cute, and amazing. I can see you are interested now…and you want to know more about me, huh? Well I was rescued from the very scary Riverside Kill shelter here in Southern California. In fact, I was rescued on the day that I was supposed to be euthanized. Why would they want to kill a sweet girl like me? Well, that I’m not so sure. I’ve done nothing wrong and I’ve proved to my foster and my rescue that I’m a sweet and amazing girl. Here are a few great things about me and why you should adopt me. I am great on leash, so walks are a breeze. I love walks and hikes, but I am also more than happy to lay around and cuddle. I’m the perfect mix of “lets go hang out and have fun” and “lets stay home and cuddle the day away.” I am fantastic with other dogs, large and small. I love playing, and I am very curious about the world around me, but with that being said, sometimes that world can overwhelm me a little, especially new situations. But don’t worry, it doesn’t stop me from being fiercely loyal and loving, I may just need some time to adjust to something that is new and scary. I just need a little patience to learn that the things outside my home can be fun and enjoyable. Once I am adjusted to a new home, my favorite thing in life is my Humans. Are you looking for a protector while you are in the bathroom? I will be right there outside the door. Need company while getting a snack in the kitchen? I’ll be there… to catch any crumbs that might hit the floor. Need someone to snuggle with while watching your most recent novella episode? Mariana?! She did what?? No way!!… I’ll be there and enjoy every moment with you. My best qualities are reserved for people who are willing to let me take my time in adjusting to my new home, but you will be rewarded with gentle, mellow, and amazing pup who loves new people. Can’t wait to take me home? Fill out an application today!!   Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation. Aurora is single and ready to mingle!! Aurora is a 3.5-year-old American Pit bull Terrier and is very petite at 45 lbs. What can we tell you about amazing aurora?! Well let’s start with how she ended up at a very high kill shelter, which almost ended her life. She came into Apple Valley Animal Shelter with a litter of puppies and 4 other male dogs. She was scared out of her mind and covered in scars. It is highly probable that she was used as a bait dog. The male dogs that came in with her where all humanely euthanized at the shelter due to severe human and dog aggression. Despite the condition that she came in, she did her best to care for her puppies at a loud and overwhelming shelter. The shelter sent out a plea for rescue help because all their kennels were full and they were going to start euthanizing for space. This is where we step in… Due to her possible previous situation of being a bait dog, she is not good with other dogs. The scars all over her face tell us a story of a terrible past, but we don’t want that to be her story. Her previous humans used her for profit and then tossed her out like trash. She deserves a place to call home. A warm bed and a family to love her forever.  Bait dogs are practice dogs that dog fighters use. They keep them weak and chained up, so their prize fighters don't get hurt, basically a punching bag. And sometimes force them to breed to make the next generation of fighting dogs. Aurora just wants a human family to love and cuddle with. She is a huge sweetheart and loves to give you her paw and lean on you for belly rubs. She is good with children, but older kids are recommended due to her exuberate personality and the chance of zoomies are high.  If you are looking for a dog who will be endlessly loyal, make you smile and laugh, and soak up all the love you have to give, then Aurora is your girl. She will meet new people with a huge smile and outgoing personality and will be the life of the party. Wont you make a difference in her life? Show her that her past will not affect her future? We understand adopting a dog who is not good with other dogs will restrict how social you can be with her, but just take a look in her eyes and you will know in your heart that she was meant for you. Show her that from now on, all she will get from humans is love and affection, and that she is enough. Interesting in adopting Aurora? Please fill out an application on our website. Please Read Frankie’s Full Bio before Applying. Yes, he is super cute, but he is looking for a specific home.  Frankie is a 1-year old male poodle and schnauzer mix, He is a low shedding dog and possibly a non-shedding dog, but due to not knowing his exact breeds (it is only a guess) we cannot guarantee he is hypoallergenic.  Frankie found himself at one of the highest kill shelters in Southern California, where he was quickly labeled rescued only for growling at the staff. The staff was so afraid of him that they used a catch pole to move him from the kennel he was in into our crate. He was also severely matted. In less than 48 hours, he became a different dog. While he has become very sweet in his foster home, he is still looking for a certain family so that he can continue to grow and succeed.  About Frankie: Knows commands “sit”, “wait”, “off”, “lay down” House trained Good with other animals Non-destructive in the house, but may get into things like trash cans and food items left out Does not bark too much, but does bark sometimes when getting to know new people and may bark when people come to the door. Velcro dog, he wants to be close to you at all times. His favorite thing is “YOU” (once he gets to know you) He is sensitive and does not like any rough play and at this time does not play with toys or other dogs. Warms up to woman faster than men, but will favorite the person who gives him the most attention Loves cheese and Ham On medication for anxiety (he will likely be able to be taken off this in the future) He can be snappy and growly with situations that he doesn’t like, but every time he has always given a warning and never went for a full bite. But he is to not be pushed into a situation where he could bite due to anxiety. He has never actually bitten anyone, but will show teeth and ask for space. He is a good mix of energy and snuggles. He is happy to go on walks, but also loves to stay home and snuggle What is he looking for: Prefers a home where someone is home most of the time. He has some separation anxiety, but is not destructive in the house. Does not like to be crated or put in a pen. His ideal day is to snuggle with someone all the time. Someone willing to continue to put boundaries in place so he doesn’t think he his in charge. A home with or without other animals, he doesn’t care for them either way, but coexists well. A home willing to give him time to adjust and understands that he is sensitive. He will get snappy if you are too rough with him or try to do too much too soon after meeting him. Once adjusted, he is a very sweet dog and very easy. A home willing to spend extra money on grooming. He needed to be sedated to be shaved down. Must understand that he may not ever be the most social dog with new people and taking him to public places may put him and others at risk if he becomes uncomfortable, he may snap. Requirements:  No children under the age of 12 (no exceptions) Home or apartment- If you are in a home, the yard must be 100% secure and he cannot be left outside alone or he will escape. Him wanting to escape is just temporary and once he is adjusted in a new home, he no longer tries, but still should not be left outside alone. Other animals in the home are ok as long as they don’t pester him too much. Frankie is very good with other dogs, but prefers human companionship. He does not play or snuggle up with other dogs and prefers them to just leave him alone. He prefers to potty outside with privacy and doesn’t like other dogs in the yard at the same time 😊 Must be willing to give him time to adjust before picking him up or handling him too much Must be willing to let him come to you to engage     Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation. Meet Lilly! This beautiful girl is 7 years old with a bounce in her step and big smile.  She is all white with a soft short coat and a pink nose with freckles.  She is smart and needs limits or she will take over every bed and couch in the house. Once rules are established, she is very responsive to gentle redirection.  She is crate trained and fully potty trained.  Lilly loves to be with her family and would do best with a single person or a couple with no young children.  She can be possessive of her family, so it is suggested that she is the only animal in the house. She will bark at knocks on the door and at people she doesn’t see regularly so she is a great protector.  She is a great work from home Buddy, spending most of her time right next to her owner and being most content in the house where she feels safest.  She does experience separation anxiety which is demonstrated by her vocalizing when you return home and jumping up to be in your space, while wagging her tail and smiling.   She would be an awesome exercise partner and loves taking walks in the neighborhood.  She loves to ride in the car and will sneak kisses to you while you are driving.  She lived in an area with trees and critters and will chase them with determination. Lilly is an awesome dog with a lot of love to share. Her smart and playful personality will keep you entertained and bring your home so much joy.     Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation. I was given the name Serenity for my calming energy. My first foster mom told me that when she first met me, she could feel me relax finally knowing I was safe. For most of my life, I lived in someones yard, never knowing true love, and being used for breeding. I can't remember how many puppies I have taken from me, but it was at least two litters. The pain I felt being starved and neglected was unimaginable, but that is all in the past! Once I was rescued I knew things were going to change!  Food has become my motivator for everything, which can you blame me? You want to teach me something, give me treats. If you leave food unattended, I will clean it up for you. My foster mom says I am a bit of a trouble maker when it comes to taking food off counters, but we are working on it. I also don't seem to enjoy the company of small dogs, they just bother me! Big dogs are great fun though, as long as we have similar energy.  I'm told its finally time for me to find a family of my own, and I am so excited about that! I have so enjoyed my foster families, but the idea of having my own family just makes my little nub tail wiggle! I might be a little extra work, but I promise you I will give you so much love and be forever grateful to you for loving me back.      Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation. My name is Stormy as I am a storm of energy and joy. They tell me Im such a sweet girl, but I have never really had an owner of my own to show me that. Sometimes being alone makes me a little nervous, and meeting new people can be hard for me, but I really do try and I am getting so much better! I think I just need an owner that will be consistant and love me for who I am. I work really hard to be a good girl. I love to play with other dogs, and walks are my favorite. Maybe we could go on some adventures together? I would really like that.  Recently I have been at a training facility where they have taught me how to be around new dogs. I am doing a great job at making friends! Male dogs are my preference but a girl likes what she likes! I am very comfortable around large farm animals, but any animal thats small I want to chase.  Do you think you could give me the home I so desperately want? I promise I will give you never ending love! Ill be such a good girl, just give me a chance. With some major past trauma, she takes some time to warm up to new people and new situations. Once she is comfortable, she is a GEM! We have seen Stormy go from a very nervous dog to a social butterfly. She is meeting new people with a waggy tail and her beautiful smile. This girl has overcome so much in her life, and just needs the final step of a family to call her own!     Thank you for wanting to adopt from Hank's Legacy Foundation.
