My name is Brooklyn! I’m originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, and I finally got my second chance at happiness when I flew to BC in October. 🇨🇦 Now I’m with an amazing foster family in the lower mainland. I’m 4 years old and weigh about 45 lbs, although I do need to put on a bit more weight to reach my ideal. I’m a unique Mexican mixed breed; based on my features, the vet says I’m likely a mix of Weimaraner, Short-Haired Pointer, Lab, and Whippet. Back in Mexico, I had a loving family for most of my life. I lived with my mom, dad, and my awesome doggie sibling. I’ll never forget the sadness I felt the day my family said they could no longer care for us. They dropped us off at a doggie shelter in Guadalajara … it was a big change but I do love other dogs so I made friends pretty quickly. My caretakers promised that I would soon be adopted by a new forever family. 🩷 Now that I’m finally here in BC, I’m ready for meet and greets! My fosters are more than happy to host meetings anywhere in the lower mainland so that I can introduce myself in person. I’ve had a harder time being chosen for adoption because of my black coat and larger size. But my fosters say I have so many wonderful qualities, I’m sure to get scooped up! I’m an incredibly friendly girl - I LOVE humans more than words can express. My fosters always tell me that I’m a sweet, gentle dog with a heart of gold. 🩷 Not only do I get along splendidly with people, I’m great with dogs of all ages and sizes. At my current foster home, I live with an energetic hound, a senior blind/deaf dog, and a shepherd puppy! I enjoy all of them and had no problem joining the pack. 🐶 Although I’d love a doggie sibling at my future home, it’s not a necessity. I can happily be your only fur baby too. Oh, and I don’t mind cats either! I used to live with cats at my previous home in Mexico. I’m also a very smart gal and I’ve shown my fosters how quickly I learn new things! I respond to my name when called, I know some basic commands, I’m house trained, I wait for permission before starting my meals, and I’m comfortable walking on leash. I live on a busy street where there’s lots to bark at but but I hardly bark at all. I’m definitely not an overly vocal dog. My fosters will be the first to tell you I’m SUPER food motivated. Treats are the very best rewards when we’re practicing training. Even though I love my meals, I don’t guard my food and I gently take kibbles from your hands when you offer them. I recently heard fireworks for the first time - Halloween! - and they didn’t phase me at all. I was too busy showing off my hot dog costume! I also had my first visit to the groomer for a bath and nail trim - the groomer said I was calm and wonderful even though the water seemed a bit scary at first. Now I’m clean, shiny, and spiffy for when I get to meet you in person! My energy level, according to my foster family, is just perfect! A moderately active person/family would be great for me. I’d be fine in either a house or apartment with daily walks. Being an adult dog, I’m not bouncing off the walls with energy and I certainly enjoy my relaxing nap times. A couple things I’m working on right now are 1) not jumping up on people & kitchen counters for food, and 2) crate training when I’m home alone because I get nervous when left alone - I just want to be sure my beloved humans will come back to me. I promise to be your loving companion, best friend, and loyal sidekick for life! I can’t wait to meet you … I just know we’ll have an incredible life together. 🩷 VETTING: ▪️Up to date on all vaccinations. ▪️Spayed. ▪️Dewormed. ▪️Distemper negative. ▪️Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. ▪️No known medical issues or injuries.
