Apple (formerly named Jane) arrived to BC on Nov 9th and is being fostered in the lower mainland. She’s now looking for her FURever home. ❤️🐾 FOSTER UPDATE (Dec 7/23): Apple is a sweet and loveable 8 month old pup, likely a mix of hound/shepherd although she’s smaller than a typical shepherd breed. Weighing ~30 lbs, we don’t anticipate she’ll grow much larger. Apple is currently being fostered in a home with 3 other dogs and she is doing great. She does not bark excessively and when playing with the other dogs it is quiet play (no barking). She loves her toys and would happily play with them all day. ❤️ She is a joyful, happy-go-lucky puppy who enjoys all the typical “fun puppy” stuff - stuffie toys, balls, chew bones, and playing with her doggie siblings. She definitely loves other dogs, especially those who play with her, so she’d be great with a doggie sibling in her future home.  Apple makes fast friends with everyone. When she went to the vet for a checkup, she did great with all the new faces and other animals in the waiting area. We also visited my parents in the senior care home and she was lovely with all the residents & nurses there (wheelchairs don’t even scare her). She is not fazed by new people coming into her home, she just wants to make friends! Apple will be good for a home with kids and dogs. Her personality suggests that she would be a great playmate for little humans. She is not too much of a rambunctious "puppy" - meaning if you ignore her, she'll eventually lie down beside you and have a nap. If you show up with a toy, she will play for hours. She also has all the usual puppy traits that make her adorable. Although we don't have cats, she likes to crawl over everything and everyone, so any cats will need to have patience with her. However, she does not show any prey drive. Apple does not have a reactive bone in her body. She has never acted out aggressively in any situation. She's just such a loving little girl. Apple is also very intelligent and trainable so she will pick up new skills quickly. She has no problem doing her business outside and also knows how to use a pee pad. She is also fantastic in the car, just stays in her seat and lies down. She still needs practice with leash training and obedience training. She’s at the perfect age to start mastering these skills! Her energy level is a mixture of play, play, play and chilling out when it’s down time. If you aren’t doing anything, she’ll entertain herself with toys, play chase with her doggie siblings or simply have a nap. An average number of walks per day (2-3) is perfect for her. Apple's foster parents work from home, so she has not been left alone for long periods of time. Therefore we can’t be sure how she’d react to extended periods on her own. We think a doggie daycare or dog walker would be a great idea if she is adopted into a home where her people are not home during the daytime. In a nutshell, Apple truly has a heart of gold and a very friendly personality , making her a beloved companion to anyone she meets. She has all the usual puppy traits that make her irresistibly adorable. If you're seeking a loving, joyful fur baby to share your life with, Apple is your girl! BIO FROM MEXICO: Apple is a fun-loving 8 month old female Hound Mix resembling the Greek Harehound and weighing ~30 lbs. Her youthful spirit is matched only by her endearing sweetness and she's on a quest to find a loving forever home. While Apple does have puppy energy, enthusiasm and is always ready for an adventure, she's not a hyper puppy and won't overwhelm you. Her zest for life is contagious and she'll undoubtedly bring a dose of excitement to your daily routine. Whether it's playing fetch, exploring new places, or simply frolicking in the yard, Apple is up for the fun. This young girl has a loving heart and a friendly disposition, making her a beloved companion to anyone she meets. She’s still learning the ropes when it comes to leash manners and obedience training, so a bit of patience and dedication will go a long way in helping her master these skills. While Apple's interactions with cats are unknown, her sweet and adaptable nature suggests she could adjust well with proper introductions and guidance. We already know she’s fanatic with people and other doggies. 🐶 VETTING:  ✔️ Vaccinated. ✔️ Spayed. ✔️ Dewormed. ✔️ Flea/tick/heartworm prevention ✔️ No known medical issues or injuries. **Apple is currently in the lower mainland. Meet-and-greets can be arranged with applicants.** show less

While Shirley has found her forever home, Brooklyn is still on her quest for the perfect match. Weighing in at 45 lbs, Brooklyn is a compact bundle of joy, filled with a fun-loving zest for life. Her sociable nature shines as she effortlessly forms connections with both people and fellow canines, making her an ideal companion for those seeking a furry friend to brighten their days. Not only does Brooklyn excel in canine camaraderie, but she also boasts an impressive record of getting along well with cats, making her an all-around gem. With her endearing personality and shiny black fur, Brooklyn is ready to fill her future home with love, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished memories. A MESSAGE FROM BROOKLYN: 🐾🐾 Hi everyone! My name is Brooklyn! I’m originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, and I finally got my second chance at happiness when I flew to BC in October. 🇨🇦 Now I’m with an amazing foster family in the lower mainland. I’m 4 years old and weigh about 45 lbs, although I do need to put on a bit more weight to reach my ideal. I’m a unique Mexican mixed breed; based on my features, the vet says I’m likely a mix of Weimaraner, Short-Haired Pointer, Lab, and Whippet. Back in Mexico, I had a loving family for most of my life. I lived with my mom, dad, and my awesome doggie sibling. I’ll never forget the sadness I felt the day my family said they could no longer care for us. They dropped us off at a doggie shelter in Guadalajara … it was a big change but I do love other dogs so I made friends pretty quickly. My caretakers promised that I would soon be adopted by a new forever family. 🩷  Now that I’m finally here in BC, I’m ready for meet and greets! My fosters are more than happy to host meetings anywhere in the lower mainland so that I can introduce myself in person. I’ve had a harder time being chosen for adoption because of my black coat and larger size. But my fosters say I have so many wonderful qualities, I’m sure to get scooped up! I’m an incredibly friendly girl - I LOVE humans more than words can express. My fosters always tell me that I’m a sweet, gentle dog with a heart of gold. 🩷 Not only do I get along splendidly with people, I’m great with dogs of all ages and sizes. At my current foster home, I live with an energetic hound, a senior blind/deaf dog, and a shepherd puppy! I enjoy all of them and had no problem joining the pack. 🐶  Although I’d love a doggie sibling at my future home, it’s not a necessity. I can happily be your only fur baby too. Oh, and I don’t mind cats either! I used to live with cats at my previous home in Mexico. I’m also a very smart gal and I’ve shown my fosters how quickly I learn new things! I respond to my name when called, I know some basic commands, I’m house trained, I wait for permission before starting my meals, and I’m comfortable walking on leash. I live on a busy street where there’s lots to bark at but but I hardly bark at all. I’m definitely not an overly vocal dog.  My fosters will be the first to tell you I’m SUPER food motivated. Treats are the very best rewards when we’re practicing training. Even though I love my meals, I don’t guard my food and I gently take kibbles from your hands when you offer them.  I recently heard fireworks for the first time - Halloween! - and they didn’t phase me at all. I was too busy showing off my hot dog costume! I also had my first visit to the groomer for a bath and nail trim - the groomer said I was calm and wonderful even though the water seemed a bit scary at first. Now I’m clean, shiny, and spiffy for when I get to meet you in person! My energy level, according to my foster family, is just perfect! A moderately active person/family would be great for me. I’d be fine in either a house or apartment with daily walks. Being an adult dog, I’m not bouncing off the walls with energy and I certainly enjoy my relaxing nap times. A couple things I’m working on right now are 1) not jumping up on people & kitchen counters for food, and 2) crate training when I’m home alone because I get nervous when left alone - I just want to be sure my beloved humans will come back to me. I promise to be your loving companion, best friend, and loyal sidekick for life! I can’t wait to meet you … I just know we’ll have an incredible life together. 🩷 VETTING:  ▪️Up to date on all vaccinations. ▪️Spayed. ▪️Dewormed. ▪️Distemper negative. ▪️Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. ▪️No known medical issues or injuries. show less

Meet adoptable Diego! 💙🐾 ~ GENDER: Male ~ AGE: 3 years ~ WEIGHT: 57 lbs ~ BREED: Pit Bull mix ~ TEMPERAMENT: Diego has a long list of awesome qualities ... friendly, intelligent, affectionate, loyal, and playful to name a few. Diego is so eager to become a best friend to someone willing to give him a chance. He is super smart, very trainable, and very personable. He’s still young so he still has quite a bit of energy. He loves going for long walks, hikes, or any type of outdoor adventures. Waves are highly interesting and exciting, so water is not a problem! He likes to play and be goofy, but will also be happy just laying around being lazy and hanging out. He does great on a leash and never pulls. If you stop to talk to someone, he will just sit next to you and chill while you chat. His grateful, loving gaze will surely melt your heart. 💙 He is a wonderful, loyal friend who just needs that special person to share his life with. ~ ENERGY: Medium-high. ~ DOG FRIENDLY: Ok with female dogs. Selective (not always friendly) with male dogs. He has a dominant type of personality around other pooches. ~ CAT FRIENDLY: No. ~ KID FRIENDLY: Yes. ~ GOOD ON LEASH: Yes. ~ GOOD IN CAR: Yes. ~ HOUSE TRAINED: Yes. ~ BARKING: Minimal. ~ SHEDDING: Minimal. ~ ANY AGGRESSION: No, Diego loves humans of all ages! ~ MEDICAL: Neutered, de-wormed, has all vaccines including rabies. He’s a healthy boy. ~ RESCUE HISTORY: Diego was abandoned in the streets of Ajijic, Mexico. He hung around outside a local shop because the owners often fed him. But some customers were afraid of Diego, even though he is not an aggressive dog. The shop owners feared they would lose customers so they tried very hard to find a home for Diego. He moved in with a foster family in Ajijic temporarily but unfortunately they could not keep him long term. His fosters rented a space at a horse stable for Diego to stay for the time being, until a new foster or permanent home can be found. Diego is well cared for, exercised daily, and safe from the dangers of the streets. But he is still longing for a home & family of his own. ~ A MESSAGE FROM DIEGO'S CARETAKERS: Diego is a very special dog. He is so eager to belong somewhere and to be someone's best pal. He loves to keep you company, even if it's just hanging out doing nothing. He is loyal and bonds quickly & strongly with his people. Diego has a silly goofy side too - he loves to play, chase squirrels, and wrestle with cardboard boxes. 😆 He enjoys his walks very much and he's fantastic on the leash. Not to mention he is super handsome and gets tons of compliments when out for walks. Because he tends to be dominant with other dogs, he would do best as an only dog. If you decide to adopt this boy, I guarantee you'll fall in love with him and he will be the very best companion. Leo will be an awesome outdoor companion for fun activities and also a perfect indoor companion for cuddles and movie nights.  We know that Leo gets along well with other dogs, but he doesn’t have any experience with cats. If needed, we could request a cat test to introduce him to a feline friend.🐱  Leo was rescued from a life of homelessness on the streets of Mexico. He had taken refuge in someone’s garage but the resident dogs there made it very clear they didn’t want another dog on their territory. This is how Leo came into the care of the rescue - he has been living at the rescue shelter since June, waiting patiently for his perfect person to come along and scoop him up 💛 VETTING:  ▪️Fully vaccinated. ▪️Neutered. ▪️Dewormed. ▪️SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). ▪️Distemper negative. ▪️Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. ▪️No known medical issues or injuries. **PLEASE NOTE: Leo is currently in Mexico. Meet Michael! 🐕‍🦺🐾 Michael is a beautiful 8 year old boy who weighs approx 65 lbs. He is a mix of Labrador Retriever & Mallorcan Shepherd. Brains and beauty all in one! ❤️ Sadly, Michael has suffered a lot in his life. He grew up in Mexico with an owner who physically abused him. When his owner decided he no longer wanted Michael, he took him to the pound to be euthanized. The rescue stepped in and brought Michael to safety. He is now living with a foster family in Guadalajara, Mexico. Michael is looking for a forever home with someone who will show him what it's like to be loved. He longs for human acceptance and wants so much to make his person happy. He is very friendly with people, despite his past abuse. All he wants is a loving human connection. ❤️ We don’t know all the details of Michael’s upbringing, but something in his past caused him to be wary of other dogs, particularly unneutered males. He gets along with female dogs and neutered males, but ideally he'd like to be the only pet in the home. Also no cats for this guy please. Michael is a people-oriented dog, so although he’s not a social butterfly with other pets, he is a very loyal companion to his humans. Michael is the perfect pup for someone who is looking for an adventure buddy! Even though he is an older adult dog, he has a good amount of energy, loves long walks, loves exploring nature, and never says no to some outdoor fun. He knows how to walk on a leash and he rides well in the car too. Whether it’s a stroll around town or a road trip to the mountain trails, Michael will be your perfect sidekick. At home, Michael is a well-behaved guy. He's happy to lounge around with his humans and just chill out. He is house trained and does not guard his food or toys. He is not an excessive barker. Michael is also very intelligent and picks up training quickly, especially given his eagerness to please. He has already completed basic obedience training. Michael is food motivated which is a great tool for positive reinforcement training. Being a mix of lab and shepherd, Michael comes by his smarts honestly and would thrive with an owner who will keep his mind stimulated. Michael has a clean bill of health from the vet. He is SNAP 4Dx tested (negative for heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and anaplasma). He is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and recently had hernia repair surgery (fully recovered). If you can give Michael the forever home he so deserves, please submit an online application by clicking the ADOPT button. Michael is currently still in Mexico with his fosters, and he will travel to BC once his perfect match is found. ❤️🐕‍🦺 **PLEASE NOTE: There will be an additional $235 transport fee for transportation to Canada. NAME: Mistico 🩵 BREED: Husky Mix. AGE: 4 years. GENDER: Male. WEIGHT: 50 lbs. HEIGHT: 19" to shoulder. PERSONALITY/TEMPERAMENT: Calm, docile, easygoing, friendly. GOOD ON LEASH: Yes. HOUSE TRAINED: Not quite yet as he has been living at a shelter. DOG FRIENDLY: Yes. CAT FRIENDLY: Unknown. KID FRIENDLY: Yes. RESOURCE GUARDING: No. He loves his food and treats but never displays guarding behaviour. ANY AGGRESSION: No. Mistico was discovered buried alive in mud, for who knows how many days before he was rescued. He was in very rough shape and was slowly brought back to health with medical treatments, proper nutrition and lots of TLC. He is a distemper survivor - a very lucky boy to have survived this early crisis in his life. He was left with a distemper twitch in one of his back legs. This condition doesn't hinder his mobility and he manages very well with the required medication, which will be provided generously for his adopter/foster.  Mistico is a peaceful, good-natured boy, very calm and easygoing. He gets along well with adults, children and other dogs. He's a very happy dog who loves his walkies, is good on leash and is an all-around polite, friendly fella. He has not been tested with cats, but with his calm, adaptable personality should be ok. Mistico is just as happy to hang around the house as he is going for walks. He will truly be a great family dog. 🩵 This beautiful boy just wants a family to love, and to receive love in return. He'd fit in practically anywhere with his laid back temperament and gentle manner. VETTING: Fully vaccinated. Neutered. Dewormed. Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. No other known medical issues or injuries, aside from a back leg tremor after surviving distemper. NOTE FROM OUR RESCUE PARTNER IN MEXICO, WHERE MISTICO IS CURRENTLY LIVING:  Dear Friends and Supporters, It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we must announce the impending closure of Scruffy's Doggie Oasis Rescue and Adoption Center. After 17 years of unwavering dedication to saving and caring for hundreds of dogs in need, this decision weighs heavily upon us. Closure Date: We have until November 31st, 2023, to find loving homes for nearly 70 dogs in our care. Please consider being a foster for Mistico. 🙏 show less

Meet adoptable Nancy! ❤️🐾 Nancy is a beautiful 3-year old Shepherd mix breed female. She weighs approx 45 lbs and is 54 cm tall.  Nancy's past history before she was rescued is hard to even imagine. She lived with an abusive owner who physically assaulted her on a daily basis. The owner used his fists, feet, broomsticks and other hard objects to beat Nancy. When neighbours reported the ongoing abuse to the authorities, the rescue stepped in immediately to bring Nancy to safety.  Nancy was taken to a rescue shelter in Guadalajara, Mexico. For the first while, she was understandably cautious and fearful of people. She didn't want to be touched as her trust in humankind was shaken. Over the next few months, Nancy learned that not all humans are "bad". Her trust level grew exponentially as she regained confidence in people and felt their kindness. Nancy's transformation at the shelter has been incredible to see - she is now a happy, loving, friendly, and playful doggie. She is sometimes still a bit timid when meeting new faces but she warms up quickly once she knows you mean no harm.  Nancy gets along very well with all the staff, visitors, and trainers at the shelter. She is social and personable when interacting with people. She also gets along with kids (it's important to note that kids must be gentle with her and not frighten her with rough play). Nancy has no problems with the other dogs at the shelter. She coexists happily with them, shares the space without any territorial behaviour, does not guard her food/toys, and doesn't bark excessively. Nancy has not been tested with cats. She does not have any prior experience with them. In terms of obedience training, Nancy has worked with the trainers at the shelter and learned some basic commands such as sit, stay, down. She is also leash trained and walks perfectly on the lead. She is comfortable staying in her crate for reasonable amounts of time, but prefers freedom to roam. Nancy has proven to be an intelligent girl and a quick learner. She responds best to a positive reinforcement approach. House training is something that Nancy's future family will have to practice with her. This is difficult to master in a shelter environment. Nancy likes to be active and run freely in the outdoor areas of the shelter. She is medium-high energy. She would probably be happiest living in a house with a yard where she can run around and play. She also enjoys mental stimulation activities; ongoing training will be a great way to build on her current knowledge while also creating a trusting bond with her new humans. VETTING:  ✔️ Fully vaccinated. ✔️ Spayed. ✔️ SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). ✔️ Dewormed. ✔️ Flea/tick prevention. **PLEASE NOTE: Nancy is currently in Mexico. There will be an additional $235 transport fee for transportation to Canada. This will be discussed upon approval.** show less

Meet adoptable Nico! 🩵🐾 Nico is a unique Mexi-mix boy with features resembling a Sicillian Hound, although his exact breed is not known since we don't know his parents. He is 3 years old and weighs approx 25-30 lbs (he is fully grown). Nico was a homeless pup in Mexico and he spent most of his time at a local gas station. The mechanic at the gas station took care of Nico by feeding him and letting him hang out in the garage. Although he grew very fond of Nico, he knew Nico would be in harm's way if he stayed there. The mechanic reached out to the rescue for help as he wanted the best for Nico. When Nico realized he was leaving with the rescuer, he held onto the mechanic and didn't want to let go. But the man knew Nico would be safer off the streets and the rescue vowed to find Nico a forever home where he would live his best life. 🩵 Nico now lives at a private doggie boarding facility in Guadalajara where he is safe, loved, and well cared for. He can't wait to meet his forever family and start his new chapter. FULL BIOGRAPHY: ▪️AGE: 3 years. ▪️GENDER: Male. ▪️BREED: Mexican mixed breed. ▪️WEIGHT: approx 25 lbs. ▪️PERSONALITY/TEMPERAMENT: Nico is a very sweet, affectionate boy. He loves to be petted, cuddled, and held in your arms. He likes to be in the company of his beloved humans and he gets along with both adults & kids. Nico can be a bit shy at first in new places but he overcomes this with reassurance from his people. ▪️ENERGY LEVEL: Medium. Nico is an adult dog so he's past the "rambunctious puppy stage". He enjoys a moderate amount of exercise, such as daily walks and exploring trails.  ▪️GOOD ON LEASH: Yes, Nico is comfortable walking on leash, just needs a bit more practice with heeling. ▪️GOOD IN CAR: Yes. ▪️CRATE TRAINED: Yes. At night, he currently sleeps in his crate with his blankets at the boarding facility. ▪️HOUSE TRAINED: In progress. This is tricky to master in a boarding setting, compared to a real home. But he will just need a consistent routine at home to pick this up. ▪️BARKING LEVEL: Average. Not excessive. ▪️DOG FRIENDLY: Yes. ▪️CAT FRIENDLY: Not yet tested, but Nico is a low-key, calm, and non-reactive guy so proper introductions would work well. ▪️KID FRIENDLY: Yes. ▪️RESOURCE GUARDING: No, he is not food protective or people protective. No jealous or dominant type of behaviour. ▪️ANY AGGRESSION: No. ▪️MEDICAL: No known health issues or injuries. ▪️IDEAL HOME: Nico's ideal home would be with adults and older kids who love the companionship of a furry family member. He would love a family that doesn't mind him tagging along everywhere with them because he's mainly looking for that special dog-human connection. A home where the family is home more often than not would be fantastic for Nico since he loves his people unconditionally and enjoys bonding experiences with them. He is the type of dog that will evolve with his family and adjust to the dynamics of his people. He would be okay with or without fur siblings. VETTING:  ▪️Fully vaccinated. ▪️Neutered. ▪️Dewormed. ▪️SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). ▪️Distemper negative. ▪️Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. **PLEASE NOTE: Nico is currently in Mexico. There will be a $235 fee for transportation to BC. This will be discussed upon approval.** show less

Meet adoptable Olaf 🐕🐾 Olaf is a handsome 2 year old Belgian Shepherd mix. He weighs approx 50 lbs and is 26” tall to his shoulders. Besides his good looks, the very best thing about Olaf is his charming personality! 🤎 He is a friendly, good-natured, loving dog. He has a warm, affectionate disposition - he LOVES to be petted and never turns down an opportunity for cuddles. At the same time, Olaf is a fun-loving, active companion who enjoys long walks, park play, and exploring the outdoors.  True to the Shepherd breed, Olaf is highly intelligent, obedient, and responsive to training. He picks up new skills quite quickly and is always eager to please his humans. This guy is a great candidate for obedience training courses and we’re sure he’ll be an A+ student! At his current foster home in Guadalajara, Olaf is fully house trained and crate trained. He walks well on the leash and has no problem with car rides. Olaf is great with other dogs, just as he is with people. He lives with many doggies at his foster home, all ages and sizes. He is accustomed to the family lifestyle, being with adults, kids, and fur-siblings, as well as meeting visitors who come over. His fosters describe him as a social, personable dog who gets along easily with others. Olaf was rescued from a very destitute area of Mexico where stray dogs are notoriously mistreated and abused. Sadly, Olaf was dumped in this neighbourhood and did his best to fend for himself. At some point during his time on the streets, Olaf suffered a traumatic blow to his lower jaw. As per the veterinary exam, it is most likely that he was forcefully kicked or had a heavy object thrown at his face. This caused a fracture in his lower right jaw which left him with a slight deviation, but it does not affect his ability to eat or function normally. It just gives him an extra adorable, goofy grin! 😁 VETTING: ▪️Fully vaccinated. ▪️Neutered. ▪️Dewormed. ▪️SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma). ▪️Distemper negative. ▪️Flea/tick/heartworm prevention. **PLEASE NOTE: Olaf is currently in Mexico with his fosters.
