“Mimi - this three year old Dutch Shepherd is a diamond in the rough. She’s smart, sweet, and wants to please! In just the short three weeks we’ve been together, she’s already learned “sit, down, off, leave it” and is learning recall and how to let me trim her nails quietly. With just a bit more consistent work, I have no doubt she’ll be that dog that everyone is in awe over because of how well she’s trained. Mimi’s background…. This girl has been failed by humans. We don’t know for sure what happened before she came to MAD Rescue, but all signs point to horribly irresponsible owners. She was picked up by Animal Control in January 2022 for running the streets. She was microchipped and her owners came to get her. But in March 2022, she and an intact male Dutch Shepherd were picked up after they killed their neighbors rabbits. It was clear that Mimi was pregnant and not far from having her pups. But this time, the owners decided they didn’t want her anymore and chose not to get her from Animal Control. Mimi had three beautiful little brown and brindle pups on April 9th, 2022. She’s an exceptional mama and keeps her pups very well fed, clean and well cared for. In the two weeks since they’ve been born, I’ve had to do very little to care for them because Mimi does all the work! They’re healthy, thriving and so big! We suspect Mimi has had many litters previously and may have been used in an unscrupulous breeding situation. So what’s the perfect home for Mimi? A home with owners who are willing to continue working on training her. She has prey drive in spades, so no other small household critters and no small children. She gets over-excited and wants to chase/nip at my kids when they are running around and yelling, but is loving and kind with them when they’re calm. She has been with other dogs and may be ok with proper introductions. Mimi does have an “off button” and will relax and lie calmly as long as her people are relaxing. She’s very in-tuned with her people and will reciprocate the energy given to her. But in order for Mimi to thrive, she will do best in a household that will further her obedience training. She is and will continue to learn quickly and will become that dog that everyone comments on because of her beauty and her obedience. Mimi should not be involved in jumping or intense sports. She had a leg fracture that had started to heal before coming to MAD Rescue. She would be better suited for nose work (tracking), obedience and light agility as far as sports. She currently likes to jump up on people to get hugs and greet them, but we’re working on the “off” cue, and she’s catching on. This girl truly is a diamond in the rough (being less rough every day!). She is so in tune with her people, and will be such an incredible companion to a lucky household. She’s so smart, sweet and wants to be connected with and please her people. She has not been left for long periods alone yet, but the few times she’s been left alone, she does not show separation anxiety. She also does not appear to be bothered by loud noises. She’s an easy, clean dog to have around, as long as you keep in mind that she wants to instinctually go after small critters ( though her “leave it!” Command is coming along ). This girl just wants a home where she can love her people!” If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic .
