Shelter Description

Dallas DogRRR is a group of dedicated, animal-loving volunteers who support the abandoned dogs of Dallas, Texas, by collecting supplies, paying vet bills, locating foster families, facilitating adoptions, and advocating for a more hopeful future. We are often seen even in the trenches of SE Dallas searching for and rescuing forgotten dogs. We have no administrative fees; no one is on payroll. Every single cent that is donated goes directly to paying for vet bills and food/supplies for our rescued dogs, as well as for boarding (for those that don’t have fosters). We are simply a group of volunteers motivated by the inspiring rescue stories that we get to be a part of every day! Interested in joining us on our adventures? We have so many ways for you to get involved.

Blind and Deaf but he doesn’t let that define him! He is playful, cuddly, loving, trusting, goofy, handsome, and searching for his forever home - someone special to love him, care for him, and be patient with him. Admiral is such a good boy. He’s low maintenance and such a happy boy.  So sweet and soft and looking for his furever home! Admiral is adjusting amazingly well in his foster home, since found, in shelter, 12 hour transport he was a little confused on what was going on but with quick learning techniques from foster to help Admiral relax and get comfortable; he is thriving and loving the safe life!  He's even enjoying outside play time; playing with other resident dogs...what an amazing, resilent dog.  You would barely know he is blind; he gets around so well and has this amazing instinct. Admiral was found dumped in a yard, he looked bad at first sight, finders didn't know if someone had done this to him.  After a thorough vet check, it seems he may have been attacked by dogs.  As best we can tell he is blind and deaf, but he is sweet and adjusting very well.  He is around 4 years old and 55 pounds.   All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption.  The standard minimum donation for puppies is $300, dogs over 12 months is $200 and for our senior dogs $100.  You can view all the adoptable pets and fill out an adoption application online on our website at http://dallasdogrrr.org.  For more information, you can email adopt@dallasdogrrr.org. Autumn, saved in the nick of time.  Sweet little one was in loud kennel by herself about to give birth to 10 puppies.  When a saint came along to bring her home to the peace and quiet of their home for her to have her babies.  Puppies were born on October 16, 2017.  Momma took good care of her babies and all have been adopted and living the high life.  Autumn is ready to find her furever home now.  She is very sweet and calm.  She is a bit shy at first, it takes her a little time to warm up to her surrounding, we are thinking she had a pretty rough life up to her arrival in the shelter.  But with your patience and love, in turn you will get a loyal and loving companion. Autumn is around 4 years old and 45 pounds.  She is so sweet and has learned how to become a dog and enjoy life now with the comforts of a good home. All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. This boy is the absolute sweetest.  He lives for face scratches...and food!  He was extremely underweight but has been steadily gaining weight.  His skin is improving, and his low back/hips seem to be feeling better because he is attempting to play and can now get up on the couch.  He just wants love and attention...and a comfortable place to rest his head. Dog friendly (with medium to large dogs), people friendly, kid friendly, house trained, crate trained.  He's a little 'too interested' in cats and small dogs. Barber is a sweet eight-year-old Rottweiler mix that came into a local shelter as a stray on 10/15. Just look into his eyes and you can tell that he’s sad and longing for a good home. Barber has some hair loss down the the center of his back and his tail. He also is slightly arthritic in his back legs. Judging from the calluses on his elbows he has probably spent most of his life outside. This sweet, sweet senior needs to be out of the shelter and on to a better life than he’s obviously known so far. I absolutely fell in love with this precious boy and I know you will too. He is very calm and gentle and chooses to stay close to his human friend. He is very loving. He gives kisses. He sits for treats. He wants to please. He appears to be house trained. He went nose to nose wagging his tail with other dogs in the bay. He was not interested in meeting the cats. Barber is waiting to go home with you. Hi. My name is pronounced “cruise” - as in cruising together - as in me and you forever. I’m a 3 month old, male, 10 lbs, 15” tall, skinny mini black lab twin with wobbly baby horse legs. I don’t think that’s a real breed nor do I think I’ll be as big or muscular as a lab. I like being unique so am cool with that.  Not too long ago I was just weeks old, homeless, had mange and was picked up by animal control. I’m now several months old, have a gorgeous black coat, and living with a foster while we look for the perfect forever home for me. Foster Mom took me to Home Depot tonight to practice leash walking and socializing. She could have left the leash at home. People were taking turns holding me while Mom shopped. The cashier even carried me out to the car. Didn’t get much exercise but those hugs and kisses sure were fun. I’m still a little shy but kinda digging it. I didn’t know big eyed puppy stares were so powerful. My overall personality is adorable – you’ll see. I get along with everyone I’ve met including big grumpy dogs. I love horsing around on my long horsey legs. I also like squeaky toys, tug-a-war, chew bones and sunning on the patio. I sleep through the night and am fine in a kennel. I don’t know how to walk on a leash cause people keep picking me up. Maybe you could help me with that. My first adoption event will be May 25. If you don’t want to wait or risk losing me to someone else, you can meet me at my foster’s house.  Sound good? Let’s Crus. Look at this adorable pup!  Pulled from the shelter and given a second chance.  So cute and learning so quickly.  He is around 12 weeks old as of May 15 and weighs around 10 pounds. How would you feel, fighting for your life through a hurricane, overcoming the stress of arriving and still not have a safe, loving home to relax and gain the confidence you need to thrive. Well that is what has happened to sweet Darla from Hurricane Harvey. She has not been given a chance due to timing, bad circumstances, unfortunate initial foster! Darla has been given that chance now finally and is thriving.  She is a beautiful 6 year old shepherd mix.  She is very shy at first, but once she warms up, she will be your shadow as she waits for cuddles and belly rubs. She gets along with cats, even the grumpy ones who don’t really like to be bothered. She knows sit, stay, leave it, lay down, eat, and come. She will wait patiently by the door until instructed to go inside...or outside...  If you’re looking for a loyal companion to be your new partner in cuddle crime, this is your girl! She is up to date with her shots as well as spayed.  Darla is estimated to be about 6 years old, weighs about 50 pounds.  All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Meet Foster Little Dewers! 🥰 He is doing great after his HW treatment and ready for his fur-ever home. He is neutered. This little 10lb ish boy is super super sweet. He plays well with older puppies and older dogs. ( I don’t know about cats as we do not have any).  Dewers is a well behaved boy. He sits and he comes when he is called.  His happy pleasures are: sitting in the sun, chasing squirrels and beetle hunting , and rocking in the lap of his favorite people. We believe he is about 4 plus years old.  Poor little boy must have had a rough beginning as there is a small bite on his left ear. He is such a fun and cute little boy, that you don’t pay attention to it. He loves to sleep in a lap or right next to humans. He is crate trained, but he does love to sleep all day near a sunny window or on a human bed. He chews and plays well with toys and sticks. I have not seen him chew on furniture. He is a really good and well behaved pup. Dewers is a sweet male terrier mix.  He is all healthy and ready for his bright future. Loves to play, snuggle and goof around.   All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Her eyes are so soulful. Elliott is looking for the perfect family to see past her muscle tic (from distemper) and allow her time to warm. Elliott is a beautiful, smart, sweet pup.  She will be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a dog to pamper and understand her fight.  She takes a little extra time to connect and build that bond but once you do it will be well worth the wait.  She needs that special time with other dogs as well. She was found as a stray in South Texas without her mommy or any siblings.  Shortly after she got here she came down with parvo, sweet girl fought hard and made it through this deadly disease. Then had to fight distemper and was left with a little twitch but other then that she is sweet and loveable.   She's enjoying life with her foster brothers and sisters and quickly found her voice!  She plays hard and naps hard!  Great with other pups, large and small.  Not sure about cats, they're alien to her right now.  Is a real cuddle-bug and is overflowing with kisses! She is estimated to be a year old and weighs 35 pounds dated (1-30-2018) All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Emerald is doing so good!  She is eager to want to play with other dogs. She greets you with lots of kisses and is a HUGE snuggle bug!  She gets a little anxious when you leave but with some cool treats she is learning to adapt quickly and learning that you always come back for her. She is fantastic on a leash!! We encountered some dogs, cars and people on golf carts WITH their dogs, ears perked up and kept walking like nothing was there. She stopped when I stopped, never pulled and seriously didn’t react to anything. Emerald (Emmy for short) is a beaut and a perfect lady.  She is looking so good, her fur and skin are healthy and coming in beautifully.  She is such a sweet girl.  It is her time to get all the love and attention now that her babies have found their homes.  If you have it in your heart to share your home with this sweet girl, she will be so grateful. My foster parents affectionately call me Buddy Boy and even though I’m blind and deaf sometimes I think I can hear them.  I’m 14 years old, slow, arthritic and slightly HW positive.  Frank Sinatra is pretty appropriate cause I do things 'My Way'.  With all those things working against me I’m still very sweet, clever, calm and smart.  I have a good appetite, I’m good at taking my meds, I have good potty manners and I sleep a lot.  I’m good at riding in the car (no whining) and my fosters buckle me in the back seat.  I mastered the doggy door in just one weekend and when my fosters are home I get to go in and out as often as I like.  I love sunning, smelling the fresh air and rolling in the grass.  I love my fosters big back yard because I can walk around at my own pace and keep my joints loose.   How am I clever you ask?  When I want food or water I’ve learned to go to the back door and turn around like I just came in. Turn left and after several steps I’ll U-Turn to the right and feel my way along the china hutch and when I get to the end I know my food and water will be there.  I’ve learned where I am by the feel of the carpet, tile, or the plastic runner so I’m really good at finding my bed.  I still bump into things but my fosters have placed pillows & things on anything that can hurt me since I use my head to find my way.  Things my fosters do to help me:  Before touching me, they put their hand in front of my nose so I know someone is there and I’m not startled. I have a safe zone with a comfy bed and I can’t be tripped over.  They use drops of vanilla extract to help me find my way.  They don’t move anything once I’ve mastered it like where my food is or the furniture.   I would love a forever family and home to live out the remainder of my years, could that be you? Geisha is coming out of her shell after her unfortunate past.  Such a beautiful, loving girl.  She is a white shepherd mix around 4 years old and 35 pounds. Geisha is another pup rescued from an abandoned situation with several other dogs...what is now known as the "hell house".  She is shy and super scared she looks down in shame and will take treats from your hands and with patience and time she will come around. When offering treats she would take from my hand and lick my hand and smell it. She stayed close to my area and did not see me out but she would make eye contact which is getting better and better. She did not alway hide her head. Please consider giving her a chance at a loving home.  She is heartworm positive and needs to be spayed but we will take care of this. Reba is great with cats, birds, and big dogs but not so much with small dogs. She is about 55 lbs. She is very sweet and loving but does take a little time to gain your trust but once she does she is the cutest, cuddlest, best companion/friend/pupster you could want.  She is a bit more nervous around men, no aggression just very shy and keeps her distance. Unfortunately, Reba's adopter had a chance of lifestyle, she decided to go to military boot camp where she is unable to bring her companion.  She loved this girl and while tough to give her up she felt it was the best thing to do.  So being a Dogrrr we will take her back and are determined to find her a new home that will help Reba continue the life she deserves.   All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. It's been a year since Hurricane Harvey and Indy has made strides.  He is still shy at first and definitely prefers women to men but he is a sweet boy who loves his daily walks.  He gets so excited and runs to his spot that his harness gets put on.  He loves other dogs and still probably needs a fur sibling to help entertain and guide him.  He is not your typically snuggle bug, he prefers to lay on his own and watch all the action from afar. Indy was rescued from Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey; he came from a shelter in Houston. Indy is a shy boy.  He has definitely not experienced love and attention his whole life.  He is always sure to place himself in a position he can see from all angles what might be coming at him.  We say he is ‘on standby’ at all times.  In the few weeks the foster has had him he has made great progress but still has a long way to go.  He is very sweet and has showed no signs of aggression even when scared.  He gets along well with other dogs, foster thinks he probably needs a fur sibling to help show him the way.  Indy will be a loyal, loving dog one day it is just going to take some patience, love and consistency to get him to trust for the first time ever.  If you are up for the challenge and huge reward in the end; this sweet guy is for you.  Our first priority is to provide these dogs with a safe, loving place to lay their head and recover after a traumatic situation. Indy is estimated to be about 5 years old, weighs about 40 pounds. He's heartworm negative and will be medically cleared upon finalizing adoption.   All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Jiggy’s owners left her behind when they moved. Jiggy stayed loyal to her owners by staying in the property in case they came back; unfortunately she was hit by a car one day while she ventured out looking for food. Due to lack of proper care after her accident, her spine grew crooked causing her to be incontinent (meaning she doesn’t have full control of her bladder or defecation). Jiggy Jill doesn’t realize that she is different than any other dog. She is able to run and play. She is truly the happiest, silliest and most active pup. Jiggy gets along with other dogs, cats and loves humans. Jiggy is special needs and requires extra care. She is on a special prescription food which keeps her poops solid for easy clean up. She is also trained to wear diapers and overalls while she is indoors. Jiggy Jill might have been a throw away stray who nobody cared for but we want to give her the best quality life. She definitely deserves it. All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Julie is SO sweet and very mellow overall.  She is an older gal with a bit of arthritis in her hips and back legs but she still has a lot of love to give.  She has energy and spunk when she is ready for attention.  She would be so perfect for a quieter home where she can be the main one getting all the attention.  She gets along with all dogs and people but she is currently having to vye for the attention with several other dogs and we know she would be happier in a home where she is the only queen. Julie’s such a pretty girl.  She has come a long way in a few months. She’s at a healthy weight, her black fur is coming in so nice and soft. She was treated for HW and should be fully cleared at her upcoming 6-month checkup.  She loves to be near her person and we look forward to seeing her journey continue.  Such a great dog that needs lots of love, who doesn't want that!   Julie was found abandoned in deplorable conditions, Romo and Julie were left to survive on their own after their elderly family moved out and left them behind.  Both were dirty, smelly and covered in fleas from living most of the time in a cage in the back.  She does not like cages these days, but does well alone in the house. Leah is a super love bug.  Always wanting to snuggle. Completely potty trained since day 2. Gets along great with all size dogs. Loves water especially running through the sprinklers in the middle of summer to cool off.  Who doesnt love to do that!  She is about a year old.  Due to her history she can be food aggressive, as long as she has her own space to eat she is such a good girl; certainly not surprising as she had to fend for her food for awhile there.  Otherwise, super chill dog.  Sweet Leah was found abandoned at an apartment complex; we think her family must have moved and left her behind to fend for herself in the complex.  It seemed she was sick and weak, and of course scared not knowing where to sleep, eat or get refuge from the weather.   Dogrrr rescued her and now she is a happy and healthy little girl.  Leah is ready for a family to love and treasure her.  All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Unfortunately, Leela's condition is not a good one. She's been diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). This is a condition where the cushioning discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column either bulge or burst (herniate) into the spinal cord space. These discs then press on the nerves running through the spinal cord causing pain, nerve damage, and even paralysis. This probably has been debilitating her for a while, and had it been caught earlier, surgery may have been an option. Her condition will not improve, and there sadly is little we can do to help her besides monitor her quality of life and keep her happy. She's happy, but it's growing more difficult for her to have bowel movements because of her paralysis. Please keep her in your thoughts as her wonderful foster is showing her the love and care she deserves. Leela is an adorable, if eyes could talk, senior chihuahua surrendered to local shelter.  She seems in good spirits and healthy, she is paralyzed on her backend but we are going to get that checked out.  She is able to go potty on her own without assistance.  We are thinking if we get her some wheels for her backend, she may be good as new!  Leela is around 10 years old and 13 pounds. Lemon is such a sweet loving girl, but first she needs to trust you.  So slow intros with this cutie are a must.  We are working on building Lemon's confidence, she recently went to Home Depot to practice some of her new commands.  Helping her overcome some of her fears and having fun too.  She just needs a little patience and time and she will be such an amazing companion. Lemon was found sick, emaciated, dehydrated and pitiful.  Living in deplorable conditions with several other dogs.  One of outreach volunteers was able to get her into our care. She was only 3 months old and had parvo; she spent a week in the ER getting fluids and medicine to help combat the effects of parvo.  We are going to help this girl get the life she deserves.   Lemon is doing amazing now, she gets to be a healthy, happy puppy now.  You would never know she was ever sick.  Beautiful, playful and ready for her happily ever after. All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Lena is a quiet, thoughtful girl who, once she gets to know you, will smooch and happily show you her tricks.  She is looking for a caring and compassionate home that will help build her confidence and understand she is a bit shy when meeting new people. She is gett ing more comfortable in her foster home and is especially close to her foster sister, Ellie. They run and play for hours and can often be found huddled together sleeping. Hasn’t shown any food aggression and is a very eager eater. She’s recently learned to take a treat, and learns commands quickly. She eats in her kennel and stays there for short periods. You can tell she desperately wants approval, you can see it in her eyes. Anyone that earns her trust and love will be a very lucky person. Mackenzie (Mackie for short). She is the sweetest!! Approximately 5 months old. Weighs 25 lbs. She’s going to be a low rider, I think. She loves to play with other dogs and loves kids. Crate trained and is extremely well behaved in her crate. Still working on house breaking. She has a liver shunt and will have a procedure to help that. She is thriving on her medicine regimen and correct food. She loves to take her medicine!! Since her liver is underdeveloped her kidneys are picking up the slack and loves to drink water. A lot of water!! Despite her little medical thing she’s a great puppy and has learned to sit and loves to play outside. She loves going on walks and all the toys she can find. Definitely needs doggie sisters in her forever home. Urgent plea from local shelter for this sweet girl.  They think she suffered a brain injury that has led to blindness. She was reported by citizens to have been having a seizure and they were trying to cool the puppy off. When the puppy was brought to shelter she had a temp of 99 degrees. Her right front leg was swollen. It does not appear to be broken but they we watching closely.  We have her in our care, bear with us while we make sure she is getting all the care needed to become the happy pup she deserves.  All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. You will not be forgotten... Dumped at a high kill shelter in her most time of need, after years of what probably was the best one could expect from a companion, and nonetheless right before Christmas. I have to wonder, was it a new Christmas puppy coming that made you do what you did?  Maybe it was a combination of her age and tumors that convinced you that her time was up and to spare you the expense and wait at a vet clinic it was just easier to drop her off at the shelter.  Did she walk in on her own will, with shaky legs. An angel stepped in to save her without a plan because she will not be able to eat, sleep or enjoy the holiday festivities if sher didn't. I dont even care how it will interrupt my life, she deserves to live her golden years in the best way possible.  Her first priority was to get her here to Camp Dogrrr, she will not be the first neglected senior who has lived out their last year or so here at the farm and she will be with us inside while we open presents on Christmas Day and yes she will have one of her own under the tree as well. She will have the best bed I can find for her old bones and she will be treated as one of the family because I dont know her, but I Love her already. I break into tears at what I think may be going through her mind as to what she did wrong. I want to hug her and tell her she is the best dog ever and I will.  She will have friends and get lots of petting and everyday she will feel the love that you never gave her since she was a puppy and I question even then. Mary is about 80lbs, 13 years old and she is so sweet! She gets along with all other dogs and cats and kids. She is an older girl and she is a strong survivor! She is hard of hearing and has Vestibular Disease, which makes her dizzy, so car rides are hard for her. She has arthritis and she went through a tough cancer surgery a few months ago. She is a wonderful girl. All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. She could be one of the Golden Girls, yes she's a bit older but she is spunky, sweet and lets you know when she's had enough! This beautiful sweet girl was dumped in a shelter covered with fleas and ticks and in pain all over her body...probably from being kept in small quarters where her muscles atrophied and her skin is worn and missing fur on all parts used to lay down.  Don't think she ever had a comfy bed or gentle hand pet her.  When you saw her in the shelter your thinking this is an old dog...she just laid there in misery.  She would get up when you came to her but wept everywhere you pet her.  Had several litters of pups over the years. Well now, after just two weeks this sweet girl gets so excited when you come home...wags her tail and at times seems like she almost wants to jump up.  She is loving life.  All she wants to do is get pets and snuggle with you.  She has an awesome personality.  She is still sore in some places and has arthritis in her hips and legs but what a difference a little medical care and love can do.  And in actuality she is not even that old, I think in a few more weeks she is going to start building more muscle and getting even stronger...this girl still has a lot of life to live.  If your interested in a chow mix, she will be a great companion maybe not your hiking buddy but your snuggling up watching movies buddy!  Minna is around 9 years old and 30 pounds.  All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Mini Mouse is a tiny ball of love and delight. She is good with other dogs and I walked her past the elementary school as it let out. The kids excited her and she went right up to the couple of families that approached us. She is completely housebroken either to outside or pee pads. She walks well on a leash and loves belly rubs and getting to nap in the human's beds. She takes treats with the other dogs and that does well. She does like company, either human or other dogs. Somewhat of a Velcro dog but does fine sleeping at night or when I am gone for a few hours in crate or bathroom. I see no anxiety or aggression issues and she transitioned to household routine well. She is 6 lbs of snuggly happiness and around a year old. All Dallas DogRRR adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Mr. Paddington is a bit of a prince and would just like to sit on his throne (i.e., your lap). He’s crate trained, but definitely would prefer snuggling up with his human. Gets along great with kids (especially when getting belly rubs). Walks really well on a leash, but would prefer to be carried. Potty trained – zero accidents since being with his foster mom! Not very energetic, but very lovable! He tolerates other dogs, but can tend to be a bit protective of his human. Cats are not his friends! Mr. Paddington was an owner surrender to the shelter.  At close to 7 years old we thought he deserved more and are hoping to find him the perfect home that will treasure him the rest of his life. Such a sweet guy who is adjusting well, his little personality is starting to come out as he adjusts to this change. This is one of the sweetest most beautiful dogs I’ve ever met.  You can tell her life wasn’t pleasant but she still has a lot of love to give she just wants to make sure you are worthy.  Shy at first but her sweetness is so ready to come out and share.  Already after a few days she is relaxing and enjoying herself.  Such a good girl. Panama found herself trapped in a canal in south Texas.  She is about 35-40 pounds she is tall and petite she is a little shy but welcomes hugs and kisses. She will be great once she gets into a home where she can learn to love and trust !  She is super sweet she is vetted and spayed!  She is learning to walk on a leash. Panama is such a precious little momma, she was found in a shelter after being rescued from nearly drowning in a canal.  She is so cute and sweet and ready to find a home that will protect her and keep her safe.  She is about 2 years old and 35 pounds. Miss Pebbles has gotten the all clear after recovering from her traumatic injury that broke her jaw and celebrated by eating the first REAL food in two months!  She is 2-3 years old, dog friendly, couch cuddler, crate trained (with treats). Pebbles was found alone and abandoned cowering underneath a tree after either a blow to the face, or being hit by car. She had her jaw wired for several weeks, and had to wear a muzzle to restrict movement for nearly two months. But, that muzzle is permanently off and she's 100% healthy! She does well with everyone, is HW-, and looking for the family that won't let her down!  This sweet adorable face was held together by muzzle not for protection because her jaw was completely broken.  She did so well during her recovery with liquid food and pulverized meds. She loves to be with you, cuddle, and sit on your lap. I've found she is a bit afraid of fast movements and loud noises, so I don't think she has been treated well.  But, let me warn you...whoever meets her will fall in love as she is the sweetest.  She is loving and wants all the attention you have to shower her with. She is 2-3 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. Peggy Sue. This big old hippo of a gal needs a hospice foster home that can get her to vet appointments as needed. All vetting is paid, she just needs a warm bed, a soft touch and a loving home. She is particular about her canine companions so she would do best as an only dog. This senior canine is happy just lumbering about and would make an amazing companion for a senior human. Pretty, Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Peggy Sue-she is vintage just like her Buddy Holly name sake song. Life was not very kind to this old Matriarch, she needs a home of her own. She isn't very fond of other dogs, she's born many litters and dealt with so much it's time for her to be a little selfish with her needs. This is your lucky day! If you are reading this note, then you are considering adopting Peggy Sue, a truly special girl. Clearly, her past was somewhat rough, but she has healed physical and emotionally.   Similar to most dogs, Peggy Sue gives her love unconditionally.  The character trait that makes her so unique is her gratitude.   She is so low maintenance because she is very content to be with her humans, feeling safe and secure.    The neighborhood kids (all ages) know and love her.   I live on a cul-de-sac with young kids.  Peggy Sue does not mind bikes, scooters, Barbie cars and kid noise.  The toddlers come up to her and touch her.   She is so excited to see people when we are walking in the neighborhood.  I use the word “walk” but it really is more of a slow stroll.  She enjoys taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the neighborhood.  She will ignore other dogs unless they are dog reactive, then we usually steer clear. Peggy Sue is very observant, smart and trainable.  She thrives in a secure environment where she was knows she is loved.   I hope and pray that she finds a home that will love and cherish her the way she deserves. Peggy Sue has come a long way from the days of misery.  She is a 'happy hippo'; we call her.  She is low energy and just wants to be loved and know she is safe from her tortuous days.  She loves people and tries to say Hi to everyone on her walks.  Are you looking for a big love bug that you can spoil her final years; she will be eternally grateful. show less

BROKEN & FORGOTTEN There he sat. Hit by a car, dragged in by a catch pole, and thrown into a concrete cell only to wait to be put out of his misery.  He sat there without a second thought for a WEEK! It wasn't until a volunteer managed to "get permission" to visit the shelter was he seen. And then, he was given a day to get out! He was unable to walk, hasn't eaten, and he has road rash all over his backside. We can't imagine the pain he has been in, but we were determined to help this guy. He needs to stay hospitalized for the time being to be observed.  He's an older guy, of course heart worm positive, and he's been carrying a bullet around for a while. His road rash has been cleaned up, and despite the swelling, nothing appears broken! His hips are a not aligned and probably a combination of displaysia and a dislocation. Next stop... orthopedic surgeon so we can see what can be done. For now, we're going to let him heal, clean up the wounds, internal parasites, and just show him some love like he has shown us so far. Hi everyone, my name is Spirit. I was run over by a car at the beginning of last year and had one front paw amputated. I have made a remarkable recovery as a tripod ever since. I can run around just fine but will never be a running dog due to my other front leg being fixed with plates as well. I am loving humans and to be close to them. Cuddles are my favorite. I am super low key and sweet. The perfect home for me will not have any stairs or an area where I don't have to walk stairs- that would be too much for me. I don't mind cats or other dogs. I have recently completed an intense training program as I struggled with resource guarding from being a stray for many years. My adoptive parents would need to keep working with me under the guidance of my trainers. n You can follow my story on Facebook on my "Saving Spirit" fan page.  Please contact us at adopt@dallasdogrrr.org for some more information about me. Stallone working on his “adopt me” smile ...it also doubles as his “gimme all the cookies” face. We can’t even train with this super smart boy without smiling along with him. This is one happy boy now!  He is getting used to the comforts of a home and is such a good boy. Stallone had his first training session and he did amazing! We are so excited to see his progress!!  He is a good boy but he is strong and just needs to learn a few manners to make it easier for his furever family. His intake pictures have arrived and they are worse than the cold dark photo I received in the “Dog Catcher Truck” asking for help. He is worn and weathered, he was given a blanket while he waited for his ride to “Freedom”, he took it and made it a bed as if it was his first nice thing he has had in a while. All shelters have a mandatory stray hold. The shelter has waived that due to his medical condition. He has clearly had no care at all and NO-ONE is probably missing him. He is just a “STRAY” he belongs to no-one he just wandered the streets for survival! He has a large tumor on his testicles, his nails are long, he his bald, skinny, and has deep wounds. How many people watched him walk by everyday struggling to survive. How many people looked the other way thinking they could not help. I don’t know who’s happier, St Nick or me/the back of my legs from the cone knocking into me. He is gaining weight slowly but he looks so much better than when I first got him. He’s such a sweet natured pup. He loves playing with my other dogs and is glued to me when I’m home. He thinks he’s a lap dog so we’re working on boundaries. He’s house broken and not to mention incredibly photogenic.  This sweet boy weighs 50 pounds and is 5 years old. Found surrendered to a shelter with his eye barely attached.  How long has this poor boy been suffering?  As soon as we heard about this guy we scooped him up to get him checked out.  The first thing was removal of the eye. My name is Benson aka Traveler, I’m a super duper well-behaved, calm dog. And because I'm so patient and peaceful and not clingy or crazy, I make a great big brother to my foster's crazy pups! I am crate and potty trained and the whole time I have been with my foster family I haven’t had a single accident inside. When I am left at home alone, I am best left in my crate as I do like to look out the windows and sometimes knock things over on accident 😊 Because of my past, I’m very timid at first to new people, but  when I am shown love and compassion I warm up very quickly. I will do better having brothers in the house as I love playing with other dogs, tug of war with a rope, or just wrestling and horse play on the living room floor. I am kid friendly, and still haven’t decided how I feel about cats (I live with 2 right now but we are still at a standoff of sorts trying to figure each other out). Because of my past I am extremely grateful to be inside but I still I like exploring and going on walks around the neighborhood. I very rarely bark unless there is a stranger at the door. I enjoy face scratches and hugs, baby talk, big stretches, and lounging around on the couch while the humans watch TV. Traveler is his name and it is very fitting.  Poor Traveler was found homeless trying to make himself save and comfortable in the closest thing he thought was home...a box on someone's back porch that didn't want to have anything to do with him.  From what we understand he has been seen roaming the streets of South Dallas for over a year.  They would run him off but he would come back to the same box to sleep in.  Knowing he was desperate for a loving home we rescued him in hopes we can find him that!  His traveling days are now behind him. This girl is doing amazing well despite her initial prognosis.  She is a fighter and filling out and growing into such a beautiful dog.  She seems to be adapting well and just needs her meds 3x a day to maintain what her body needs.  She is so sweet and so worth the extra effort of just a few meds and perhaps we few extra checks ups now and then.  But we are so pleased with the results of her surgery and so glad to see her feeling and doing so well. Valentine was rescued last Feb, she is a Pyrenees Anatolian mix, about 70 lbs, had a liver shunt and had surgery to help her. She needs medicine 3x a day. She is very sweet and beautiful, she loves her humans and wants to be sure they are safe at all times.  She is a good girl, a bit shy out of her element but as long as she has you she feels safe. Valentine is great with other pups, playful and gentle and doesn’t bother her foster sibling kitty.
