Abbey, our beautiful 9 year old Pyrenees mix, is looking for her forever family!  Abbey is a sweet and absolutely beautiful girl who loves to be loved, and if you are on the couch, she will gently paw you (with that 'Pyr Paw') to remind you to give her that love! She is so soft and cuddly and her foster family has already said that if they were ready to adopt, Abbey would be the one!  For a 9 year old, this beautiful girl has plenty of energy, so a family who can take her for walks will be good, but she does need work with leash walking. Abbey is looking for a home with a secure above ground fenced-in yard so she can walk the perimeter to make sure all is good at her home! She is dog-selective, so it would be best for her to be an only dog, and we do not feel she would be ok with cats as she really just does not seem to like other animals in general... she just wants to be the only one to get your love and attention! Abbey is housetrained, knows some basic commands, and is not a counter-surfer! She is not currently allowed on the furniture in her foster home, as they thought it would be best for her forever family to decide what they wanted to do! Her foster family say she is a joy to have around and we all hope to help her find her forever home ASAP! If you would like to meet this beauty, please complete an adoption application at GRRAND.org   show less

This beautiful girl is Abey!!! How could you ever get enough of this smile?!? Abey came to GRRAND when a kind vet contacted us about owners looking to euthanize their dog. Of course we said we could help! This sweet girl has obviously been through a lot, and we are thrilled to see that she is already blossoming in her foster home. Her foster mom reports that as she gets more settled, she is enjoying playing with her doggie foster siblings more and more. She is a little camera-shy, and she ducks away every time a camera is pointed at her Abey’s foster mon is currently in the process of determining whether Abey doesn’t have a good grasp on commands like sit and down, or whether Abey has a great grasp on choosing not to listen! LOL!!  Abey is approximately 4-5 years old and is about 68 pound. She is housetrained and we have not yet cat-tested her. If you are interested in meeting this happy girl, please fill out an adoption application ASAP! http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ PLEASE NOTE: In general, all GRRAND dogs will be up to date on vaccines, receive heartworm and fecal testing, be microchipped, and be altered (spayed/neutered) as part of their adoption fee.  Vet care will be provided to all GRRAND dogs as is age and medically appropriate. This may require ongoing vet appointments to be coordinated with one of our veterinarians for both fosters and adopters. WOW!!!!! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TRANSFORMATION OF ALANA!!!! It's all about the Love and TLC...   Alana was the last dog we were able to catch from our recent backyard breeding case. She came to us very fearful, not allowing anyone to get close. Then, things got worse. Alana has always had vision issues, and one night they seemed to get worse. She was bumping into things and seemed to be circling. Then, she stopped being able to stand or walk altogether. She was rushed to MedVet Cincinnati, where she was given an MRI and a spinal tap. Alana was eventually diagnosed with acute encephalitis. She is now on several medicines, and we are doing everything we can to get her back on the right track to have the chance to learn what a good, loving home is all about. One of the best things to happen to Alana is that one of her Neurology vet techs, Lauren, agreed to take her home temporarily to help her recover. Check out our previous post on FB to see Alana as she started learning to walk again. She is doing so much better now. As excited as we are to know that she is progressing medically, we’re equally ecstatic to see these pictures of Alana with Lauren. These dogs came to us so fearful of human contact, so this is a huge milestone and a good sign of what’s to come Alana’s diagnosis and treatment has been very expensive. If you would like to donate to her care, we would greatly appreciate it: http://grrand.org/grrand-critical-care-donation/ show less

This cutie pie is Augustus... Augie for short and this guy is looking for his forever family!!! Augie is a Lab Mix puppy with PLENTY of that funfilled puppy energy! and that is a lot of the reason that Augie is with GRRAND right now as his old owners just didn't have the time to give to Augie to get the exercise and direction a young pup like him needs! He is a very sweet boy who loves everyone he meets and is looking for a home that has a fenced in back yard or is committed to taking him to the dog park or doggie day care so he can stay socialized and tired! As everyone knows, and we love to remind... A tired puppy is a good puppy! He is currently in the kennel looking for a foster or forever family, but his GRRAND family say he is just a good boy!  Augie is house-trained and crate-trained too, is just as cute as can be and pretty smart too! Everyone that has met him has said this about him and for just a 7 month old pup, he is said to sit, lay, roll over, shake, and high five!!! His GRRAND family has been working with him on his manners and so far he is getting it like a champ, and right now working on his leash walking skills. So it seems that with some proper training, this guy will have a list of commands he knows and follows and will be a super well mannered boy!! He is also said to have been around a younger child and was a lovely good boy and minded his manners for the little one. We just know that this adorable guy will make a wonderful companion for you and your family!   PLEASE NOTE: In general, all GRRAND dogs will be up to date on vaccines, receive heartworm and fecal testing, be microchipped, and be altered (spayed/neutered) as part of their adoption fee.  Vet care will be provided to all GRRAND dogs as is age and medically appropriate. This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Interested families will have the support of our trainer to help understand Bernie and get him settled into his new home If you are interested in fostering Bernie, please complete a foster application: http://grrand.org/foster-process/ If you think Bernie may be the dog for you, please complete an adoption application: http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ show less

Meet Bolt! Bolt is a sweet and easy going, 3-4-year old lab mix, has been with a GRRAND foster for 2 years, is a textbook rescue story, and is so ready to find his forever home! While not a Golden Retriever, GRRAND could not let this good boy be forgotten... Bolt came to us in a starved, abused condition, and he had some health and skin issues that GRRAND vets have taken care of. Bolt needed ear surgery and significant veterinarian care was required, but he is fully recovered and now back in excellent health! His ear infection required the removal of one eardrum and he is feeling SO much better now! As far as his skin issues, GRRAND is working to find the best way to manage his allergies and have found daily allergy pills and a bi-weekly injection are keeping his coat beautiful and healthy, but they are still working on other options.  Bolt is wonderfully warm, and people friendly (of all ages), but due to him being considered a flight risk, he will need a home with an above ground fenced yard and a home with no kids under the age of 10. He is completely house and crate trained and rides well in the car, and likes to snuggle next to his person in the bed too!  Bolt has a high prey drive so he can not go to a home with cats or dogs. He is most happy getting all of his people’s love and attention so being the only dog is best for him! We recommend experienced dog owners for Bolt who are willing to have the time and patience to work with him while getting adjusted. He is a super deserving boy and we just know there is a great family out there that is just perfect for Bolt!! If you think you are the ones, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org     show less

Meet our sweet senior Labrador boy Boon... Boon (now called Buddy by his foster family) was taken in by GRRAND from a shelter as he was on the euthansia list for the day we snatched him up! We are so lucky to have him and he has landed in a wonderful foster home while awaiting for his forever people. We believe he is about 12 years old, and is just a sweet guy looking for a calm and loving place to hang out. His foster family has other dogs and he does just fine with them, but they think he would be OK as the only dog in the home if that was the situation. So Buddy... he doesn't ask for much... just a good meal a couple times a day (he gets so excited to eat!), a couple slow short strolls in the neighborhood each day and some sweet TLC!! We don't know much about this handsome boy's past, but as far as GRRAND is concerned, we do know he has lots of good stuff to look forward to in his future! He loves to sit in the doorway and watch and listen to the world and dream about his new family who he just knows is out there looking for him! Buddy had a hard time with the slick floors while he was at the kennel, but he seems to be doing ok in his foster home. We are certain he will make a wonderful addition to a person or family looking for a calm and grateful dog just looking for a place to chill. His foster family says he is a perfect gentleman, but with a silly goofball personality and yet a very "mellow fellow"! They have a few grandkids under the age of 5, and Buddy is very good with them too. He sounds awesome to us... How about you!? Would you like to meet this sweet boy? (you KNOW you do!) Clover is the puppy of the 9 backyard breeding dogs we recently took in, believed to be the son of Alana and Jones. Clover, now called Andy, is about 9 months old and came to us as a very frightened pup cowering in the back of his crate. We are so happy that since going to his foster home, he has had a chance to decompress and learn to be a loved dog! He is with an incredible foster family and foster “pack.” His family is working with him to transition from a “do whatever you want” outside dog to a dog with good manners. A canine gentleman if you will! Andy is a rough and tumble player with other dogs and has a LOT of energy. Thankfully he is learning to respect the thoughts of those in his pack who are not so energetic. He shows no hint of aggression, he is potty trained so long as you take him out every couple of hours, and he’s sleeping well at night. This cute pup is happy with his crate, walks well on a lead and has not tried to escape by digging under or jumping over the fence. When he goes to a new home Andy will need another playful dog equal to his energetic personality! It will be important for him to have a buddy to give him confidence, especially outside. All in all, Andy is making progress, but more training will be required to prepare him for his forever home. If you are interested in meeting Andy or any of our GRRAND dogs, please complete an adoption application! http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ show less

WHY IS THIS GUY NOT ADOPTED??  What an awesome guy Cosmo is! He is an easy to love great boy who has been dealt a bad hand... Cosmo has proven to be nothing but a fabulous boy, and we can not understand why he has not found a home yet!! A family with time, patience and lots of love to give this 1 year old pup is what he needs and deserves to have! This handsome boy is super sweet, LOVES to be loved on and is said to be quite the 'leaner'!! Cosmo is not a fan of the crate, so a baby gated off room for him until y'all get to know eachother is a super idea!! We have learned that he can not go to a home with a male dominate dog... he can go to a home with a non-dominate dog, but no male Alphas for Cosmo but he does do OK with female Alpha's! This boy is learning basic commands and just has the fun silly usual shenanigans that come with a puppy! He really is a good boy! Sadly, Cosmo was diagnosed with heartworm disease, but we can now Happily report he is completely finished with his heartworm treatments and is ready to go!!! He went to a home for a short time and when they realized he didnt like to be crated, sadly he was returned, so this guy needs a new home ASAP! They say he is a very energetic and fun loving boy who would love a home with a fenced yard to romp and play. He is very intelligent and quick to learn tricks (especially for treats). He feels that retrieving the essentials in the home are a part of his job... you know, like the kitchen rug, or your bath towels LOL!!! He means well when he brings them to you, he just wants you to know where they are!!! He is a very good loose leash walker as he rarely pulls.  As this handsome puppy is playful and has plenty of energy, his family will have to be there for him by having the time and patience to work with him by giving him the exercise and direction he needs to grow up to be a good boy! A tired pup is a good pup!! Cosmo loves to get love and give it back and he knows some tricks too... Shake is his favorite!! We can't say enough great things about Cosmo, we just feel he has had some bad breaks and we know there is a wonderful family out there just waiting to make him a fabulous part of their family!!!! ADOPTION PENDING!!! This guy is Finnegan and he is one lucky guy! He was found running with another dog as strays and taken to a shelter who contacted GRRAND. He came to us in horrible condition and in pain due to the severe mats of his fur, and limping from ACL damage that needs surgery. You can tell from his Freedom Ride pictures that he was so grateful for the awesome GRRAND volunteers who transported him and were taking him to safety. He knew everything was going to be OK! He spent lots of time with one of our dedicated GRRAND kennel staff members who gave him a much needed shave and a bath and he is feeling much better! So Finnegan has gone straight into a foster to adopt home, and if you really would like to know how this could be you, you need to fill out a GRRAND foster or adoption application so you can  have gone through the process of the application screen, home visit and approval process, and this will enable you to be on the ready for when we have a dog that comes in and fits your needs.  Finnegan is going to require ACL surgery and if you would like to assist GRRAND in his large surgery bill, please go to http://grrand.org/grrand-critical-care-donation/  GRRAND can't express enough how grateful we are to all of our wonderful donors who assist with these needy dogs! Grandpa is an 'ole sweet senior boy...   So this cool looking boy was picked up on the streets by a good samaritan about a year ago who had no intention of keeping him, but they nursed him back to good health and had them longer than expected. They are now having to move and can not take Grandpa with them.    Grandpa (who is now called Jack by his foster family) came to us as a 12-13 year old senior gentleman, looking for a great forever home for his Golden years. Unfortunately, after having a full veterinary intake exam, the news wasn’t what we had hoped. Grandpa has several masses in different areas that are very concerning, one that would require partial removal of his jaw. He also has a heart murmur, hookworms, and some elevated blood levels. Grandpa isn’t showing any signs that the masses are bothering him at this time. We are in consultation with many vets and specialists. We will do everything we can for Grandpa to make his remaining time amazing without causing him any suffering. Due to the risks and trauma associated with the surgeries and procedures that would be needed, we will be helping Grandpa with hospice care. Grandpa deserves all the love and care he can get at this time, and luckily, he has a great foster family to give him all that and more. If you would like to help us and them give Grandpa all the best, you can donate here: http://grrand.org/grrand-critical-care-donation/ (In general, all GRRAND dogs will be up to date on vaccines, receive heartworm and fecal testing, be microchipped, and be altered (spayed/neutered) as part of their adoption fee.  Vet care will be provided to all GRRAND dogs as is age and medically appropriate. ADOPTION PENDING!!! Luna is a beautiful and sweet almost 2 year old Golden (her birthday is around Halloween) who has a couple special requests for her forever family home, so it is very important you read her bio and understand that just because she has a beautiful face... she has some special needs too! This lovely girl is needing a home with adults only or no children under the age of 16, and she needs to be the only dog in the home as well. Her family will need to have the time and patience to work with a young golden who needs plenty of exercise and direction! She needs some socialization skills as she is pretty shy, not a fan of change, and doesnt like to be forced into situations she isn't comfortable with, so training for Luna and her new family is highly recommended to form a good strong bond and to help her with refreshing her basic commands and leash manners too. She said to be a pleaser and loves to play toss with a tennis ball in the yard. Luna is a very loving girl (said to be quite the snuggler!) who wants to have the house all to herself... sharing food and treats is not her favorite thing to do, so if you are a family who likes to have friends and their dogs over, she may not be a good fit for you. Luna is crate trained and likes to just go hang out in it during the day to chill and she also sleeps in it at night.  If you feel you would be the right family for Luna, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org     show less

Marshall is in a foster home PENDING ADOPTION... This cutie pie is Marshall and he is one of the favorites at the GRRAND kennel! He is about the bestest boy you will ever meet and we just know that whoever comes to meet him will just adore him!!  Marshall is a 1 year old Golden/Lab Mix who was turned into a shelter as his people were moving and didn't want to take him with them... We wonder HOW that is possible, as he just has that amazingly sweet Golden/Lab disposition and is pretty laid back and chill. Upon arrival to GRRAND it was found he may have been hit by a car and needs immediate medical attention and he is pretty malnourished as well. So we know that with some serious love, vet care, TLC and groceries in his belly, he will give you back 10x's the love he will get from you as that is all he wants!! This adorable and very sweet boy is said to be quite the "leaner" per his caretakers at the kennel and wants nothing more than to be petted and simply loved on... things it seems he didn't get to experience much, and we are so excited to give it to him! Apparently he enjoys prancing around and showing of his soft and squishy toys when he is out to play as he is very proud of himself. As Marshall is just a young pup, we know he will need a family who can give him the exercise and direction he will need to grow up to be a good boy and that will have the time to give him all the love and affection he can take in! We are really wanting to get Marshall into a foster home ASAP,  but in the meantime, if you feel you would like to meet Marshall, please fill out a foster or  adoption application at GRRAND.org   PLEASE NOTE: In general, all GRRAND dogs will be up to date on vaccines, receive heartworm and fecal testing, be microchipped, and be altered (spayed/neutered) as part of their adoption fee.  Vet care will be provided to all GRRAND dogs as is age and medically appropriate. So Millie has a sweet face, but this face is full of SPECIAL REQUESTS!!! PLEASE READ before you apply to adopt Millie... This sweet girl is a lover and is looking for a dog-savvy, adult only couple or single person to love her back! Millie came to us from a home where she had been improperly trained on an electric fence and was repeatedly being shocked when she would leave the yard. She has overcome many of her issues related to this, but she will require a home with an above ground physical fenced yard!!!   Millie does have some resource-guarding behaviors that she is currently working with a trainer on (who will help transition Millie into her new home), but she will need an adult only, experienced dog-savvy person committed to continual management of these behaviors. Due to this, NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 and again, she will need an above ground fenced yard and that means no apartments or condo type structures! We will not bend on this and in the end, Milie's trainer will have the final say of the right home for her. Millie would love an active person who will take her to doggie daycare to get her energy out or good runs/walks. She would do fine as an only dog or with a stable, submissive dog, but NO CATS! She is also crate-trained.  Millie has a waited too long for her happy forever, and with just the right person, you can live a happy great life together! So this honeypie is Pearl, and Pearl is a typical Lab puppy... FULL OF ENERGY!!! GRRAND took ownership of Pearl and her sister Sugar Bear a couple months ago, and a lot has changed since then... They had to go to separate foster homes due to a Parvo outbreak, and we have found that as long as these girls have another young dog to play with and love on, that they will be OK in separate homes.  We have learned that Pearl is just a great puppy and loves to play with other dogs. She will jump all over them, run and play with them and just have a blast with another dog that has her same sense of FUN and energy level! She is learning manners and "sit" she has mastered... as she is all polite and adorable and sweet stuff! She is learning to walk on leash and it seems a harness type leash is really good for her to keep her from pulling as she is a VERY determined walker and wants to keep up with the "BIG DOGS"! A squeaky anything gets her attention, and she is at the typical puppy age where everything needs to be put up and away as she wants to see what it is and if it is a chew toy!  She is a very affectionate puppy who can possibly be a bit overwhelming for an older dog, so Pearl is looking for a younger sibling that she can be playmates and grow up with. This cutie patootie is about a 4 month old Lab mix as she does have rear dew claws. She is absolutely adorable and will need a home that will have the time and patience to work with a puppy with lots of puppy energy and she will need plenty of exercise and direction to help release that puppy energy!  We have learned that Pearl is crate trained, and is good with a wire crate, but those closed-in airline crates are a no no for her! Car rides are a fun thing too, but make sure her belly is empty before you plan to go anywhere as noone likes a sick dog in the car! As we learn more about Pearl, we will update but if you think she could be the right puppy to fit into your family, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org show less

FOSTER HOME DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!!   This boy LOVES THE WATER and (really loves everything) we can not understand why he is not in a foster home or has been adopted!!! Pete came to GRRAND from a rural KY shelter and he is looking for all of the things he has never had... a family with a warm and loving home who can give him all of the love, and attention he can take! The shelter told GRRAND that 'Someone with a pond, swimming pool or 100 water hoses would be the perfect home for Pete cause HE LOVES water!! You have to fill his water bowl constantly because he thinks it's to play in... even in 17 degree weather!' So, now that everyone knows that Pete loves the water, we also need to tell you that he is super sweet and loving, and as any 1 year old puppy who has had no training or direction in his short life, Pete will need a family with the time and patience to work with him on just those things! He will need a home committed to giving him the exercise and direction he will need to grow up to be a good boy!  Sadly, Pete was diagnosed with heartworm disease and his foster or adoptive home will need to offer him a calm environment for when he is going through his treatments. This is usually a couple months and when all is cleared up, he will be back to his silly puppy self! (You can talk more with our foster coordinator about this) Could you be the one for Pete? Please check back later for more info on this boy... Spice is a beautiful 11 month old Lab mix who came to GRRAND from a rural Ky shelter where she had been found as a stray with her sister. Upon intake, the girls generally presented as feral dogs… they were terrified of human interaction and sought hard to escape the confines of any building or fenced area we put them in and had been housed in a kennel since their arrival early December. Since then, Sugar has been adopted and happily for Spice, she is in a wonderful foster home and is ready to find her forever family too! So this sweetie pie will need a home with another friendly, stable dog to help her build her confidence, a secure above ground fenced yard, no children under 16 yrs old, and experienced adults who can continue to work with her on her socialization skills! That is a lot we know, but after all she has been through, we want to make sure she gets all of the TLC and care that she needs, to grow up to be a super social and confident girl! Spice will need daily leash walking for socialization and a very secure environment due to her being a flight risk. We are taking all precautions as Spice is getting over her fear of people, but she still has insecurities that need to be addressed, therefore we recomend a 6 ft privacy fenced yard for her. We are happy to report though, she is learning to trust in people and with the correct love, patience and support from her family, this will get better every day!!! She is even starting to sit on the couch to chill while they watch TV! That is HUGE!! She is turning into quite the Velcro girl as she wants to know where her people are at all times!  Spice's foster family say that she loves treats and has a great appetite, so with her food motivation, she should be easy to train. Spice is very comfortable in her crate and sleeps happily in it all night without a peep out of her. Her foster mom calls Spice a gentle soul... As you can see from one of her pictures, she has an adorable "paw print marking" on the side of her face and they say her coat is so soft and shiny! We will post updates as we learn more, but if you would like to meet this sweet and lovely girl, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   show less

If you would like to help in Sugar's fight, please visit http://grrand.org/grrand-critical-care-donation/ to make your contribution and we appreciate (and Sugar Bear too!) anything you can do! Sugar Bear is about 4 months old, and is probably a Lab mix (as she has rear dew claws), is absolutely adorable and will need a home that will have the time and patience to work with a puppy with lots of puppy energy and she will need plenty of exercise and direction to help release that puppy energy! As we laern more, we will update on Sugar Bear... This may require ongoing vet appointments to be coordinated with one of our veterinarians for both fosters and adopters. A member of our Vet Care Team will work with you to complete care of your GRRAND dog.   show less

This is one handsome, big and fun loving boy, and sadly, Zen has tested positive for heartworm... Zen is a 2-3 year old Lab/Golden mix who came to GRRAND from a shelter so we are still learning about him, but we do know that he is a VERY social boy and just LOVES people! He is in a foster home so they are getting him through his heartworm treatment which is wonderful and should be wrapping up in October. He is in a dog free home and that will be best for Zen as he tends to resource guard... especially bones. He can NOT have any bones in his home and will need to go to an adult only home.  He has a lot of energy, and his manners are not the best just yet, so he will need a home that can give him the exercise and training he needs to be a good boy! We do know that he is housetrained and has otherwise been a great dog! This boy is destined to be a good dog, but his new family will need to have time and patience to help him get there! He looks like a mid sized boy in this pic (working on getting more), but this boy is a BIG 90lb guy of LOVE and fun! As we learn more about Zen, we will update, but if you would like to meet this happy guy, please contact GRRAND right away!
