About Martini

Martini is a 2-year old, 15-pound male dachshund mix. This handsome boy with his side-eye glance was surrendered to a Texas shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. Martini is a bit timid when accepting pets and scratchies, but enjoys them when they are trusted. However, he still prefers to eat under the couch. He loves his toys - fluffy and squeaky balls - he even plays fetch with himself! As Martini comes out of his shell, he has become interested in his kitty foster sibling - he will follow him around a bit, but is never aggressive - only curious. He loves going for walks and is well-behaved despite the sometimes scary/loud city noises. Martini won't jump into bed, but happily sleeps there all night when properly invited up. This sweet, wonderful man, has a seemingly refined palate for vodka - or it gin? :) Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and received dhpp, bordatella, rabies. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application on the CONTACT US page. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Cheerio is a 10-lb., approximately one-and-a-half-year-old chihuahua mix who has been through a lot in his young life. He was surrendered to the city shelter when his family could no longer care for him. (He was said to have lived happily with a nine-year-old and another small dog.) Cheerio was very scared in the shelter - he made friends but would lie on his side, rub himself on the ground and whine from stress - and was set to be put down when Waggytail stepped in. In foster he has blossomed, with a gentle approach, into a joyful pup who loves to play fetch with his Kong (which he carries out to the yard!), and to carouse with two small doggie housemates. He is learning to sit for treats in order to curtail his excitement at seeing kids, runners and dogs on the street. Cheerio is housebroken if kept on a regular schedule. He would love a yard to expend his young energy on, and a quiet home that understands fearful dogs. He does need time to warm up, and continued positive training to thrive (no small kids, please). His human and canine foster family love him, and hope he finds a home that introduces him slowly to more new experiences so his awesomeness can continue to unfold. Cheerio is up to date on shots, microchipped, heartworm-negative and already neutered.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Hazel is a 12-pound, 1-year old Chihuahua - who, as you can see, is excellent help with laundry! Found as a stray in LA, she arrived in NYC a very scared little girl. She has blossomed in her foster home and each day becomes more comfortable and secure. Her foster parents are very patient, as she is still timid, but making excellent progress. Hazel is a happy pup who recently discovered a love of tennis balls and loves to play, even on her own. She is reportedly doing very well with her fear of strangers and is meeting lots of new friends, to one day become a social butterfly! Hazel would be great in home with another dog as she is playful, and loves to sprint around the dog park before walks. The way to Hazel's shy heart is first through treats, then tummy rubs! I am John F. Kennedy, but my friends call me Jack. I'm 9 pounds and 4 years old and deep-down a loving mush, but I come across as initially timid (except to the doormen who I am scouting for votes). I prefer to meet people on my own (comfortable) terms. My foster mom says I am happiest when she holds me and now that I trust her, I am more demanding of belly rubs. I'm not all looks though - my presidential qualities expand to intelligence - I know when 10-seconds are just about up on the microwave which means mealtime! My out-of-the-oval-office hobbies include cuddling on the couch and eating yummy treats. I am housetrained and good with dogs around my size and just like my namesake irresistible and people on the street stop to admire me. Check out my super-speedy tail wag! Moonie is a 5-year old, 16-pound female chihuahua found as a stray, brought to the shelter. Her foster mom says: an Italian GreyHuahua, or more like Italian GreyWOWZA!  This girl is queen of the animal kingdom and wants to please as your one-and-only. Check out her eye makeup! In two week’s time, she went from an unapproachable, easily startled sheltered stray to mushy goofball who loves and lives to be by your side. Like a little deer, her prancing gait and puddle-leaping will give you something to fawn over. Like a cat, she swirls around your legs then jumps up to dangle her arms over the easy chair. Like a raccoon, her dextrous little mitts will grab for your attention. Like a ferret, she squirms and winds around your neck and limbs while you relax. Moonie is an attention-seeker and is impossible to resist her not-so-subtle suggestions. She positions herself and maneuvers your hands, demanding belly rubs. This girl brings you a toy when it’s time to play fetch. Not just a pretty face! Moonie knows sit, lie down, and go to your bed, and finds her harness when it's time to go potty. She snuggles hard, then sleeps through the night. Moonie is still learning socialization in a crowd, but warmed up to the strangers before class was over. She got comfortable fairly quickly with workmen in and out of the building, she now struts around with a toy, showing off - her true sign of trust. Once that happens, she hogs the spotlight! She will make an excellent companion especially if her new person can take her to work. With a lot of initial one-on-one time, Moonie can easily become the star she is ready to be! Moonie is spayed, vaccinated, and micropchipped.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Pablo is a 3-year old hound mix. He is very sweet with people he knows and trusts, but needs time to warm up to new people. Who isn't initially weary of strangers anyway?! When he is home with his foster mom, his favorite place to be is in her lap. Pablo will let you know when he is ready to be pet and scratched by a visitor - he prefers to do it on his terms. He needs to live in a home where his people are around a lot because he loves his humans. If you are an experienced adopter or can spend time helping Pablo be confident with social skills, then he is perfect for you. This beautiful boy loves to play and is great with dogs especially outside or at other people's homes - a fur-sibling would be ideal for Pablo.  Pongo is a gorgeous and friendly Blue Heeler boy who came to NYC at the end of December from a Texas shelter where he'd been on the Euth list.   He's being fostered in Long Island and would   love to continue to live in a house with a yard.  He loves playing fetch, and when indoors he loves his kong.  He JUST turned 1 years old and is 46 pounds. He's all love but he's got some edges to smooth out with his manners and leash work,  so a little training will go a long way (he's still young- strong and has a lot of energy). But despite this he's worth every second you put into him beacuse he will be the best addition to your life. He's a lover. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him.  He should be ok with other dogs and kids, but not sure about cats. And definitely needs to live in the burbs.  Pongo is microchipped, neutered and up to date on shots.  He's got the short tail and wonderful soft classic Heeler fur and markings.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Estrella (aka Stella) is a 7-year old, 6-pound female terrier mix. This salt and pepper beauty is full of sweetness! Stella is a happy-go-lucky, easy-going, cuddle-loving girl! She has been through a lot so is a bit timid at first. Stella gets along with everyone - kids, dogs, people - she is all-around the perfect dog! Don't let her age fool you... She may be low-energy, but she is swift (can jump pretty high onto the bed) and easily keeps up with younger dogs! But then, give Stella your lap and she is happy as a clam to keep it warm! This tiny little nugget also loves to eat! Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, received dental, and 2 dhpp, bordatella, rabies. Zebedee is a 12 pound, approximately 1 year old, Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix arriving sometime in Feb from TX and needs foster. He's great with other dogs, but also likes some one on one time with his people. Zebedee has had no experience with cats so far. He is pretty sweet and would probably be good with kids, but don't know for sure. He uses a doggie door at his current foster home. Neutered, heartworm negative, received rabies, bordetella and DHLPPC vaccines.
