About Lou Lou

Meet Lou Lou! Who couldn't be smitten with this pretty girl after one look and one pet? She's a bouncy, super energetic youngster looking for that perfect home that can help her be more social with new animals and humans. Lou Lou would love an active home that can keep her body moving and her brain busy! She likes cuddles almost as much as play time, but still needs more exposure to other animals and people to become a well-rounded adult in a few short months. She could use basic puppy training classes and looks of mental stimulation to keep her challenged and occupied. Age: 6-12 months How I came to PAWS: Lou Lou was surrendered because her previous family could no longer handle caring for her. Animal ID#: A40589801 Weight: 33lbs (but she's estimated to be only half-grown and could be as big as 50lbs+!) Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. We get to know each dog as an individual and strive to make matches based on personality, not on breed label.) Location: Northeast Adoption Center All our dog meets are by appointment only; to get started, please complete the adoption application. To learn more about this dog, please contact us at adoptions@phillypaws.org or 215-298-9680 ext. 16._____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Alani is a tiny lil' mama who came to PAWS with kittens and is now living happily with her foster friend! Found stray, Alani is thought to be 4-6 years old and was know as “bathroom cat,” the guardian of the porcelain throne at PAWS. Alani had a scary past, so she takes a little time to build trust, but when she realizes she’s safe, she will happily follow you around the house and keep you company wherever you go. She is very calm but curious to explore every inch of your home. Point a laser in her direction and she’ll play with you for hours! Alani prefers her own space and is not a "velcro" girl, but will show affection when playing with toys and letting out the sweetest squeaky meows! She will melt your heart, and the hearts of your guests whom she’ll be curious to meet. This loving girl needs a supportive home that will enjoy her company and give her the love she deserves.  You will never feel lonely with Amelia in your home! She is looking for someone to follow around for the rest of her years. Amelia is an easy addition to most any home; she is happy to just BE. She is happy to be with YOU, she is happy to be around other pets, and she is perfectly happy napping the day away in solitude. As a small yet older lady, she holds her own. At the dog park, she silently demands respect from even the biggest dogs. She enjoys making the rounds and greeting all humans and canines alike. She kept up with her 2-year-old foster sister on her daily walks and occasionally even nudged her along to keep moving and stop sniffing so much! She has no trouble finding her way upstairs but does need some help getting back down them. Amelia is housebroken now that she's on a basic bathroom schedule. She may need a refresher once in a new home but she catches on quick! Amelia doesn’t do much jumping anymore, so she spends most of her time low to the ground in any available dog bed, whether they are meant for her or not. She'd be happy to be your lap buddy on the couch or bed but will need a lift. She hops willingly into to your arms, ready to go wherever you are going. She loves soft foods and treats that she can munch on her with her limited teeth. She doesn’t know any fancy tricks, but a yummy treat can motivate her to learn. She likes to supervise her foster mom in the kitchen while cooking and make drop in visits to her yoga mat and give little licks of encouragement. It’s unclear how much Amelia can see or hear and see, but it will be apparent how much love she has to give when those big ears pop up and those big brown eyes finally realize you are home!   Age: 10 years &#226&#128&#139How I came to PAWS: Stray Animal ID#: A40444703 Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.  This cute, angelic little face? It's Angelica's! Like all young pups, Angelica would benefit from basic training to become the social, friendly, well-rounded adult we know she can be! An adult-only home that's prepared to put her through socialization bootcamp would be best since she's still in her "awkward teen" months and isn't her most confident around strangers at first. Like most, Angelica responds best to positive reinforcement. Her ideal adopter would be able to help her with confidence building to enable her to let her guard down around new faces and come out of her shell!  Arnold is a sweet, older boy who would be the perfect addition to any family! Unfortunately, Arnold was surrendered due to his family not being able to keep him any more. It has been a tough road for Arnold, but he is learning to love and trust again! He would be a great companion for anyone looking for a low key dog who just wants to cuddle. He is looking for someone who is patient and will give him time to adjust to his new home. Arnold is currently working on some obedience training and would love to continue learning in his new home. He loves to be a shadow & would follow you everywhere you go if you'll let him! He absolutely loves to be pet, and he is happiest when he’s with his people or other dogs. He would do well in a home with or without other dogs. He is approximately 10 years old, but definitely has the spirit of a young pup!  Babadook is a goofy boy who came to PAWS after wandering around on the streets. He loves to run and play with other cats and even dogs! He's an easygoing guy who won't ask for tons of your attention, but does love getting cheek and chin scratches, is always there for you if you need a cuddle buddy, and is never opposed to being picked up and carried around.  Babadook does have a history of seizures which means he needs to take a pill twice a day, but his foster says he's truly the easiest cat ever to medicate—he puts up no fuss whatsoever! Other than that, all he needs is bloodwork once or twice a year to make sure that he's healthy. As much as his foster parents adore him, Babadook would love to find his own forever home, preferably with other cats for him to run around and wrestle with! If you're looking to add another fun pet to your family, consider taking home this wonderful boy today! When you first meet her she can be shy, but if you give her some time to warm up, she'll reward you with sweet purrs and lots of head nuzzles! Because Babe prefers peaceful snuggles to lots of action, she'll do best in a home with kids age 10+ who understand that she likes to take things slow.  Bev, also known as Big Mama, is equal parts sassy and sweet! This petite lady has beautiful, big, green eyes, curly whiskers and the softest fur for miles, which will come as no surprise since she’s a perfectionist when it comes to bath time! After a life on the streets, she is ready for a home that can give her all the unconditional love she deserves. Bev will do best with an adopter who has had experience with cats, and as an only pet so that she can embrace being queen of your castle. In foster care, Bev is proving to be quite the chatty Cathy—she lets out the cutest little chirps when you talk to her and when you pet her. Bev lets you know where she likes pets, and where she doesn’t; go with gentle pets on top of the head, cheeks, neck, behind the ears and beneath the chin, minding her mouth as it might be sore! When she’s looking for some company, she will hop up next to you on the couch or bed for a nap, but she will quietly retreat when she’d prefer some time to herself. Bev has stomatitis, a condition that causes sores and inflammation inside the mouth. To help manage her symptoms, she has had most of her teeth extracted (all but her canines) and is currently on a wet food only diet, which she isn't complaining about! (Her foster moms think she could be the next face for Friskies—come on, just look at that gummy smile!) Bev is also FIV positive, a virus that weakens the immune system (Note: FIV-positive cats can live normal lives, both in quality and duration. They just need to be monitored for infections. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions regarding Bev's health). This little lady doesn’t ask for much and is overly deserving of a forever where she can feel safe and loved… perhaps with you? From Bev's foster parents: We've had Bev for a little over a month now and boy, she's come such a long way! Though she was seemingly un-phased by the change in environment (and a lot of things), she was a bit touchy with us and wouldn't let her foster brothers come anywhere near her. Now, she follows us around everywhere we go and will come when called. She has even crawled up to sit on our chests without being prompted. Bev would still prefer to be the only kitty in the house, but she's made progress with her foster siblings! Also, believe it or not, she gives kisses!  Boris is a staff favorite and one of the sweetest cats his foster parent has ever fostered. Recovering from some eye surgery, he may look at you kinda funny at first (his foster likes to call him Little Squints) but that won't stop him from running right up to greet you, looking to be pet. Boris loves to find the softest materials in the house and will curl up for day-long naps (his personal favorite is a fuzzy blanket on his foster parent's couch, which he frequently steals off the pile to spread out on). Boris also has a strange, but passionate love for ping pong balls. He frequently opts to chase one of them around the house over the dozens of other toys he currently has. His personality is truly fantastic and he wants nothing more than to love on and curl up with someone all day.  Boris gets a little stressed out by other animals and would do best in a home as an only pet where his humans are frequently home to snuggle and scratch his chin and belly.  Candy is a sweet treat! She is 6 pounds of love that has come a long way from the underweight and scared chichi brought into the shelter. Today she gets super excited for her next tasty meal. In between meals she likes to go for a nice jaunt outside, (if the weather is right) or stay swaddled in her blankets next to the space heater, show off how high she can actually jump during her occasional zoomies or might even do her "Candy Dance" for you. Inside, she likes to perch for comfort- on the top of the couch, a throw pillow, any pile that keeps her higher up and sometimes curls up into a ball on your lap.    Candy should live somewhere quiet and comfortable, where she can be around people and have her own space. She doesn't mind her cat friends in the house and vise versa. She has shown little interest in small dogs and has barked at bigger dogs, but eventually settles down.  When her bat ears perk up you will immediately fall in love with her tiny face and whiskers.  Meet the Colonel! He's most famously known as a super sweet cuddle buddy that just wants to put his head on your lap. He’s great on walks and loves saying hi to everyone he meets on them. The Colonel is also a very smart boy who likes to figure out the secrets of the universe and conquer every puzzle feeder known to mankind.  Despite being so young, Colonel's a fairly low-key guy - a couple good long walks a day and some toys at home to keep his brain busy work just fine for him. Once he's had his fill of activities for the day, the Colonel likes to fall asleep for a nap by using his favorite humans as pillows. The Colonel has a significant heart murmur and an accompanying heart condition that he takes an easy daily medication to manage. He definitely does not let his condition get him down, though! He's as happy and cuddly as any young dog, and brings smiles wherever he goes. Colonel can join a home with kids as young as 14 who understand he has some limitations in how active he should be (although he'll make friends with kids of any age)! He's curious about other dogs and fairly respectful around them, and could live with a calm canine companion. He's learning about crate training and would love to continue in his new home, and would love a home with folks who are around a lot and/or have overlapping schedules between family members so he has people to keep him company. Adoption staff will be happy to discuss his needs in more detail before setting up a meet to adopt!  Apply to adopt at phillypaws.org Email adoptions@phillypaws.org for more information about me! Subvalvular aortic stenosis, also referred to as subaortic stenosis or SAS, is a common heart defect in dogs. In dogs with SAS, there is added tissue below the aortic valve (hence 'subaortic'). This abnormal tissue creates an obstruction ('stenosis' is the scientific term) that the heart has to overcome to pump blood to the body. This stenosis makes the heart work harder than normal. A heart murmur is created by blood being pumped across the stenosis into the aorta.'  Hi, I’m Columbus but my foster moms call me Pluis! Pluis is Dutch for “fluff” and I am indeed a gorgeous 15 pound ball of fluff! I love spending time with my 4 foster mommies, but I am currently looking for my forever home. I am a super cuddler and will always accompany you on the couch or closest fuzzy blanket. While a couch potato at times, I also enjoy playing with my fabric ribbon. Sometimes I can be a little too playful and give you a little scratch or bite—but I promise it’s all in good fun. I do well with meeting new people and will happily cozy up to your friends to show off how cuddly I am. Currently, I am thriving as the only pet in the house, but I would also be happy living with some like-temperamented cats. One final thing about me is that I had a stroke of bad luck with an abscessed tooth which turned into a medical emergency. While I’m missing some teeth and my whiskers are still growing back, I am fully recovered but might require some medical attention in the future, though I’m neutered and have had all my shots! Name: Columbus ID: A39440340 Age: ~3 years Reason for surrender: My previous family didn't have enough time for a pet.  I’m currently living in a foster home, and you can contact Emily at littlewhitehouse19146@gmail.com if you have any questions or inquiries. _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Coraline is cute as a button and she knows it! This complete sweetheart's favorite place to be is wherever you are. She can usually be found curled up right next to you as close as possible, or sleeping in a pile of blankets waiting for you to come find her.  Crabby Snax is a very affectionate adult cat who would love to spend the winter asleep on your chest! This smaller-framed guy was abandoned by a previous guardian in not-so-great shape. He is very grateful to be inside, well-fed and loved, and he lets you know it by running to the door to greet you and snuggling into your arms.   In his foster home, he has been content to sleep and cuddle, and hasn’t been a big player, though that might change when he gets into a home of his own!  He is great on car trips to the vet, and hasn’t shown any signs of aggression toward his foster mom’s resident cats and could live in a household with multiple cats or be purrfectly find taking up all of your attention! He’s a pretty quiet guy, though he does make little chirps when you bring him his dinner. He has strong food preferences, and thus far says a polite "no" to anything except chicken or turkey canned food (and pizza!), so his future adopter should be aware of his preferences.  Watch this animal's video:      Name: Crabby Snax Age: 10+ years Reason for surrender: Abandoned at the Shelter Animal ID#: A39731776 Please email adoptions@phillypaws.org for more information about me, or my former foster parent at gmzoller@gmail.com!  Current location: Old City Adoption Center  _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Danni Devito is a sweet girl who is 8 years young.  Once she gets comfortable with you, you'll see just how special she is. Get ready for round the clock snuggling and all night cuddling! She's an incredibly loving cat whose favorite spot in the house is right next to her people.    Danni eats a high qualiy wet food rather than dry food to help her lose weight (plus she only has front teeth and can't chew dry kibble)! But don't worry, she'll make sure you don't miss her meal times - she's very good at telling time!   Danni is a sweet and sensitive lady who can get startled easily and would love a calm, loving home to settle into. Older, respectful kids would be fine, but little ones might be too much for her. Although she'd prefer to be the queen of your castle, she has been getting along with her foster parent's docile senior resident cat. She really would flourish in a home where she could get as much affection as possible! She is house trained, but also has no issue using puppy pads as a back up, and if you've been gone for a while she always welcomes you back home! This senior dog would appreciate a home with adults and older children who'd shower him with affection and help him work on his manners. He's an older guy, and his back legs have "trick knees" that may cause him to wobble and limp occasionally during colder temperatures and lots of physical activity, but future adopters may only need to consider palliative care (such as pain meds) to keep him comfortable and mobile. Age: 8 to 10+ years &#226&#128&#139How I came to PAWS: Dwight's previous owner lost their home and could no longer care for him Animal ID#: A40715322 Weight: 9.4 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.   Emily is the sweetest! This wonderful lady loves to be petted and purrs like a freight train. One of her cutest habits is rolling around on her back to show you her bunny feet and belly. She is fine with being picked up, but prefers to sit next to you as opposed to on your lap. Emily prefers relaxing to playing and likes to gaze out the window, or snuggle up with you while you enjoy a cup of tea and a good book. She will greet your every morning with and adorable little trill and chirp!   In her foster home, she has been friendly to everybody she meets. It is a relatively calm and quiet environment, though we have no indication that she wouldn't do equally well in a home with more noise or children. She has not met her foster mom's resident cats ("because they are ill-behaved monsters"), but she would likely be fine with another cat with a proper introduction! Emily is considered a hospice case since our vets suspect she may have cancer, so PAWS is focusing on palliative care (providing relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress at any stage of illness) for Emily to keep her comfortable. This special girl has so much love and joy to give! If you'd like to be Emily's hero, reach out to adoption staff and we'll be happy to tell you all about her.  Age: ~5 years How I came to PAWS: Found stray Animal ID#: A40103220&#226&#128&#139 Current location: Foster care (This animal is not at the shelter) Emily is not at the shelter.  Are you looking for a super sweet cat who is also low maintenance? Enchilada is your guy! Check out his video to see just how loving and cute he is!  Enchilada is a loving guy all rolled up in a wrap of affection, and covered with a sauce of shyness! He takes a few minutes to warm up, but once he does, he just loves a serving of cheek rubs with a side of shoulder scratches. All cheesiness aside, he is SO cute when he's asking for pets, and does somersaults while you're petting him from excitement for more! He even hops up to rub on your hand if he hasn't seen you in a while.  He likes other cats, but would also be happy as the only cat. He's getting the hang of kitty communication with the other cats in his foster home. He is very playful and enjoys chasing them in games of tag. His other favorite toys are little mice and fuzzy things he can play with on his own. He doesn't ask for much playtime from his people, but loves the automatic toys his foster has - just turn them on and continue about your business while he's endlessly entertained!  Since he's shy at first, he'd do best with a cat-experienced adopter who can give him time to settle in - including lots of slow blinks and soft reassurances while he's getting used to you.  Age: 1-2 years old How I Came to PAWS: Surrendered because his owners had too many animals Animal ID#: A39841440  Current location: Foster care (this pet is not at the shelter).  Footloose wants to dance with you! He's a social and friendly boy. He wants to help you "lose your blues" and make you smile with his bouncy enthusiasm! He's past his puppy stage but still has plenty of energy for jogging and playing with you.  Footloose is a smart boy who would love to continue his training with you! Because he loves people so much, he'd be especially happy in a household where someone is home more often. He can join a home with older kids who are comfortable around large dogs - he is very nice, just sometimes oblivious about his size! While Footloose is friendly with many other dogs, he'd benefit from more socialization before living full time with another and will do best starting out as the only pet. It's pretty great! I spend lots of time showing off my nice "sit" skills, and Netflix-and-chilling on the couch. I also love curling up in a ball at my foster mom's feet while she works, and cuddling with my foster brothers on a blanket.   But what I really want is for my forever family to find me and bring me home. I'd love a home with kids or other dogs, but if you just want to keep me all to yourself and spoil me, I'm good with that too! I will be available once I'm neutered on 3/7/19!   Age: 7 Breed: Terrier/Chihuahua mix Weight:15 lbs  How I came to PAWS: Jonesy's owners became too ill to care for him Animal ID#: A40582152 Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. Meet Luke Skywalker! The sweetest cat with a hopeful story. He was living the perilous life of a stray in West Philadelphia, suffering from a severe kitty cold and painful toothaches. But luckily, he picked the right porch to take shelter on! His foster mom scooped him up and took him to City Cat Vets where he received the medical care he desperately needed and won the hearts of the benevolent staff with his handsome and youthful appearance. Once his health began to improve at home in foster care, Luke Skywalker became even more cuddly, affectionate, and talkative than ever before! Luke Skywalker is a good natured senior guy at approximately 10 years old, and is always looking dapper in his tuxedo. He enjoys chin scratches, day lounging, cuddling in bed, and a good chat. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. Luke would likely get along with children that are gentle and respect his space. He would thrive in an environment where he is the only pet and can have his people all to himself. Luke Skywalker has the perfect combination of an easy-going and lovey-dovey spirit. By bringing Luke Skywalker home, you would at long last be giving his story a happy ending: a warm and safe environment with a kind and loving person he can trust and love back. Please consider meeting him and welcoming this charming guy into your family. And thank you for saving a life!  Macaroni is a sweet, adventurous young kitty. She enjoys being around people and is affectionate, but she's also confident and independent. She's vocal and likes to serenade her humans with the most adorable chirpy meows. She loves to play, and her favorites are wand toys and mouse toys that she can chase around the room. She is looking for a home where she can be playful and loving. Macaroni has been living with a medium-sized dog and two cats. She gets along well with the dog, who lets her do her own thing. She is curious about the other cats, and they are slowly getting to know each other. She may do well with other pets if she's given the time and space to adjust. Macaroni will be available for adoption after her spay in early March! Age: 1-2 yrs How I came to PAWS: Macaroni approached her foster parent outside of my apartment one afternoon.  Maggy is a very sweet, gentle young mama cat. She has been an amazing mom to her 4 babies, but now it’s time for her to find her own furrever home! Maggy was most likely a stray cat when she was found on the streets with her kittens. When her foster mom first brought her to her temporary home, she was a little unsure around people. However, she very quickly learned how to be an indoor cat and how to love humans! Maggy is very relaxed and well behaved. We believe she would do fine with other cats and dogs as long as she is introduced properly. (She was always curious about the resident cats and dogs in her foster home).  Love the sound of a well-tuned purr motor? Moose is your guy! With just a few pets this adorable grey kitten goes from 0 to 60 with his ultra-loud rumbling purr. Moose is really well socialized with other cats, dogs, and his foster mom's young kids. He can be somewhat reserved with new people, but once he gets to know someone, he is very affectionate. He seeks out snuggles and attention and loves to curl up with a warm human. He can entertain himself for long periods of time playing with balls or other cat toys and loves to play with his sister Squirrel.  If you love to laugh, you'll love Gordita! This sassy little lady might be tiny, but she's got one of the biggest personalities at PAWS. Gordita came in to the shelter obese and barely able to run, but now she can roll around, run through the adoption center, and sometimes plays fetch! She was diagnosed by our vets as having Cushings disease (develops when their body overproduces the steroid hormone, cortisol), but she doesn't let it slow her down at all. She takes pills every day to keep her stable, and is looking for an adopter who can keep up with her medication and continue to help her on her weight loss journey. Because Gordita is choosy about her animal friends, she'll do best in an adult household as the only animal. In exchange she'll repay you in hilarious antics, tons of personality, and adorable pig-like snorts every time she sniffs things! Age: ~6-8 years Weight: Around 15 pounds Reason for surrender to shelter: Found as stray Animal ID#: A39404466  Breed: Chihuahua mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label) Current location: Foster Care If you are interested in meeting Gordita, please email adoptions@phillypaws.org for an application.  If you have questions, please email the above address or contact our adoption staff at 215-545-9600, ext. 69 or 70._____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Neo & Shae are a delightful bonded duo! They love affection but also enjoy their own independence. They both enjoy brushing and could probably be a lap cat, but like all great things, it comes with time. Hi I am Neo. I enjoy quiet tight spaces preferably near heated areas. I like attention however I am not the cuddly type. For the most part, I like to do my on the thing. I am completely opposite of my sister. I will not tell you when I want to rub but I will tell you when I don't want to be rubbed. I do not make much noise except when it is time to eat. I love to have my coat brushed. I am shy at first but a real sweetheart once you get to know me. Hi I am Shae. I am very social, a little more than a lap cat. I enjoy attention, I love belly rubs. I enjoy walking on your best while you rest, I am an alarm clock I will wake you at 4am on most mornings to be feed. I am neat, and comfortable with alerting my human that my water bowl is empty.  Petie Paul is a very chill guy who wants nothing more to snuggle up and take the best cat naps. He loves head rubs and would make a great companion during lazy days on the couch. Who cares if you watch another episode on Netflix? Not Petie. Life on the streets of West Philly just didn't have enough soft nap spots, so he's searching for a new forever home. Petie seems to do well with other cats at the moment, but would prefer not to live with dogs.  Hi! I am Phoebe, a former singer-songwriter and author of the smashing hit “Smelly Cat.” You might have heard it on that friendly human's show. I’ve decided to retire from the music industry and am now looking for a loving home where I can pursue my new passion: yoga! To be honest, I still sing a few notes every now and then, but my hit song reminds  me too much of my days at the shelter, so please don’t ask me to sing it – I am onto better things now. Wouldn’t you love to open your home and heart for a new gorgeous furry friend?! My foster parent says I am very kind and affectionate. That said, I may take a day or two to warm up to new humans and a new space, but once I settle in, I promise you lots of rubs and cuddles, and most of all — playtime! My favorite toy is the swatty feathery thingy, especially when it hides… I haven’t seen a laser in a while, but lights and reflections of all kinds get my attention. I should also say that I have a complicated relationship with food. I am not on a diet or anything but I could use some encouragement (from a human or maybe even another pet) while I  eat or I’ll just wait till everyone’s gone to bed for some late night snacking. Likes: playtime, watching out the window for birds and other moving things, taking naps under the couch. Dislikes: wet food, the sound of plastic bags, bubbles. Age: 1-2 years How I came to PAWS: My previous adopter did not like my singing Animal ID#: A36258212 Current location: Foster care (this cat is not at the shelter).  Pinto is a cute nugget! Though shy at first, once acclimated, he is an energetic, playful, and cuddly cat. His happiest moments, when he isn't busy making biscuits on every inch of fleece at home, is chasing his toys around the house, climbing as high as he can, and catching a breeze by the open windows.   Pinto is very active and would do best in home with other feline friends whom he could play with.  Prepare to meet the sweetest duo you'll ever see, Pumpkin and Figaro! These bonded brothers are learning what the good life is like in a warm house with snuggly blankets and snuggly humans. Fig is a large tuxedo gentleman who wishes playtime would never end. Toys are definitely the way to this goofy kitten's heart (he also says a few chin scratches wouldn't be the worst). Fig is a class clown who will make you laugh until you cry with his bumbly antics. He's not the most graceful kitten but he makes up for it with true heart. Little Pumpkin is a petite orange boy who purrs like a machine and wants to be loved so badly, but still sometimes gets nervous. He'll come to you for pets then suddenly become scared and skitter away- but he can't help himself and always comes back for more! Pumpkin will streeeeetch right next to you to give you tummy access because (don't tell any of his friends) he secretly loves belly rubs. This tough guy is all marshmallow fluff on the inside. These two would do best in a calm household with an owner who will be patient and give them the reassurance they need to come out of their shells. They've been much politer to the resident cat than he deserves and should do fine with other friendly cats with a proper introduction. Pumpkin and Fig have already blossomed so much in foster care and have made their foster mom so proud. They will make the sweetest, funniest and most loving companions you could imagine. These lovely boys are so ready to light up the forever home that will give them the patience, understanding and love that they deserve.  Rain is a gorgeous, jet black beauty with enough pizzazz and personality to match a dozen dogs! She's a high energy gal who'd make a wonderful exercise buddy to take on jogs or hiking trips. Rain would thrive in a home with older kids (or just adults), as long as her handlers are very confident in their ability to walk with a strong, bouncy pup. The perfect place for Rocko would be a home where he can enjoy lots of fun and goofing around! Once he's gotten the sillies out, he does a great job settling down to nap by your side. We think Rocko will really flourish with an active adopter who has experience with playful pups and can help him continue to learn his doggy etiquette. Older kids would enjoy taking Rocko on daily jogs, for which he'd happily repay you with lots of kisses.  I may be small, but my personality sure isn't! I'm a curious and affectionate girl that LOVES head rubs from any nearby human. My tail is a little puffy so when I stand on my back legs, I almost look like a squirrel. You may have noticed my last name. It's not a coincidence.  Sgt. Stubby is a cuddly tripod who handled stairs like a champ and finds no difficulty going through life with three legs. He enjoys playing with soft mice toys, running up and down the hallway, looking out the window, jumping on top of the fridge and cleaning his brilliant white coat. Sgt. Stubby is FIV positive and can sometimes have a sensitive stomach but being on a more sensitive diet is all he needs. His favorite vice is trying to steal potato chips or other crunchy snacks.  He really enjoys the company of humans and finds other cats fine as long as the respect his space.  After knowing his foster brother a few weeks he now enjoys playing and chasing him throughout the day as well as sleeping on the same couch without tension. He loves getting pets and purrs easily from any affection from humans.  Sgt. Stubby likes being active but he’s also a big sleeper. He could be fine in any size home and although he likes people, he does not need constant attention. He just wants to hang out with you when you are around, clean his white coat and munch on kibble.   Sgt. Stubby M. Nubbins had a rough go his first year of life but he has recovered and is ready to find his forever home! He is a sweet boy who is a pleasure to spend time with.    Age: 1-2 years How I came to PAWS: Found stray Animal ID#: A40496724 &#226&#128&#139I am not at the shelter.  Meet Shaquille, a talented man who was found in the parking lot of PAWS' Grays Ferry clinic. Just like his namesake, he demonstrated impressive running and dodging skills, before going straight into the net. Nowadays, he's more of a retired athlete who spends his days lying in the windowsill of his foster home, though he still enjoys the occasional workout with his toys and scratching post.  Shaq is a bit of a shy boy who might run away and hide at first, but if you wait for him to come to you (and maybe offer some tuna) he will let you brush him and scratch his head endlessly.  He’s a pretty chill guy who would do best in a calm home with people (and even cats) who will be patient as he adjusts to his new surroundings. Shaquille has kidney disease and is considered a hospice case. We would love to find him a forever home that can provide him with the care and comfort he needs in the time he has left.  Sometimes an extra special cat comes along. That cat is Snapple! Affectionate & trusting, there is a warmth to Snapple that is unique. He's proven himself to be a staff favorite!  Snapple was originally adopted a couple of years ago. His family loved him very much but their active lifestyle left him feeling stressed. When he returned to us, you could tell he was feeling sad. But getting to know him again has been such a reward.  He'll let you pet him until your arm gets tired. You can hear a soft purr when you scratch him behind the ears. He'll let you wipe his face when he gets those crusties in the corners of his eyes. And afterwards, he gives you a look like he is saying - thanks for taking care of that for me. Snapple would be fine with older kids and a home with less hustle and bustle. After a long day of work, taking an extra couple of minutes to spend with Snapple definitely ends the day on a high note with anticipation of seeing him again the next morning. This loving guy doesn't ask for much yet would provide so much to the lucky person who takes him home.   Suwa is a sweetheart! He was found as a stray in Philadelphia with a burn on his back—the vets suspect someone may have poured boiling water on this little guy. All that aside, Suwa is healing up very well! He still has a few vet checks ahead of him, but is ready for a family! Suwa loves to cuddle, especially at night. Even when he is playing alone, he loves to be in the same room as his people. Suwa also loves watching cars and birds out the window. Suwa is very vocal boy, with a non-traditional meow. If you love a gravely baritone, he’s the boy for you! He sometimes gives gentle love nips, and would probably be best in a home without young children or with experienced cat owners.  Before coming to the shelter, I lived my life in a loving home for several years, and I would love to once again live in a comfortable home like I'm used to! For now, I'm at PAWS enjoying my new luxury suite: the adoption enter bathroom! Although I came from a home where I was the only pet, I would like my future owners to know that I have good manners and like meeting new people. I will feel at home with kids of all ages and even dogs. I love nothing more than to be around my people! I'm a bit of a couch potato, so I would love a new family who will help me lose a few pounds through diet and light playtime. I'd love to meet you! Please stop by PAWS' Old City adoption center and ask for Taddy the bathroom cat!  Meet Tony, formerly known as Piper. Tony is an extremely loving, lively, silly, and easygoing boy. His favorite thing in the world is to cuddle (but he will let you know if he’s not in the mood) and his second favorite is to play! Tony loves all kinds of toys and becomes quite the aerial acrobat with wand toys. He has the warmest snuggles and the loudest purrs. Tony isn't picky about his environment, is curious, confident, and loves to explore. He especially enjoys a window with a view. Not only is he a clean and well-mannered roommate, but he also wants to be your BFF! You will never feel lonely with Tony. The best things about him are how much love he has to give and how easily he takes everything in stride. He is not easily phased by changes in the environment and loves meeting new people. Tony is FIV+. FIV stands for feline immunodeficiency virus, but all that means is his immune system doesn’t work as well as it should. He is in great health and his condition doesn’t slow him down at all or prohibit him from living with other cats. FIV+ cats can live just as long and healthy a life as a non-infected cat as long as their owners keep on top of their health (and teeth!) – which ANY good pet parent should be doing regardless. Will you open up your home to this sweet boy? From Tony's foster parent: Likes: Head and chin scratches, gazing out windows, snacks, small toys he can throw around and chase, catching major air playing with wand toys, talking about your day, playing, and lots of affection.   Does he like other cats? After a slow introduction, we think he would do great with kitty roommates! Does he like kids? Older kids who respect his space are ok. Please, no littles. Does he like doggos? All signs point to no.  Uncle Horace is a sweet, sweet lump of cuteness and affection. He's a little on the chunky side, but we just tell him there's more of him to love. Uncle Horace was surrendered because his aging owners could no longer physically care for him, and he came in overweight and with irritated skin. He's presently on the mend, and would love a new forever home in which to live out his golden years with people who have lots of time for him! Horace doesn't mind most same-sized, polite pups, although he'd prefer a home with older, gentle kids.  Yin & Yang are a curious pair of sweet long-haired black 6-month-old kittens. Easygoing and cuddly, when together they love to play and cause some mischief. Big brother Yin is about 6.6 lbs and little sister Yang is just over 4 lbs.  They are Leos to the core — warm-hearted, independent and brave, always embracing others with kindness, rarely making a peep and never raising a claw. They will thrive in a home that is calm and allows them to set the rules. These guys are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. The inseparable pair were found in Blackwood, NJ and transferred to PAWS in mid-January. They are currently in the care of a foster family — with kitty brother Kovu and pup brother Bean — learning to coexist with other animals. Totally up-to-date with all vaccines, boosters, and scheduled to be spayed and neutered on 2/16, these two are ready to join a loving family!  Meet Zapp Brannigan, a handsome little orange guy who likes lap time almost as much as he likes nap time. He likes other cats that can match his energy, and loves any and all toys—especially wand ones and laser pointers that can get him jumping and running! Zapp was found as a stray this past Spring and was sick for quite a while, until PAWS vets determined that allergies were prompting his perpetual illness. Zapp is much more stable now on a hypoallergenic diet, and his adopters will need to keep him on that strict diet to avoid relapse into illness again. Zapp's hobbies include doing pigeon impressions, soliciting head pats, and playing tag with the other resident and foster kitties in the home. He's very food motivated (so guard your human snacks!), and toy motivated, so if you need him to do something for you just butter him up with those sweet, sweet bribes. Zapp especially loves forehead rubs, he tolerates kisses, and is a two-time Regional Head Bonk Champion—in his mind, at least. **This animal has additional medical needs that the foster would like to discuss before setting up a meet to adopt.** Age: 1 year Reason for surrender: Found as stray Animal ID#: A38288232 Current location: Foster care (this pet is not at the shelter). Please email my foster parent at angela@phillypaws.org for more information about me!  Please apply online by emailing  adoptions@phillypaws.org_____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.    Zuma can’t wait to find her forever human to give her attention to. She love snuggling and getting scratches, playing with strings, and being all around adorable.  Zuma (female) is the most adorable black kitten her foster mom has ever seen. When she's not playing tag with her brother chasing each other around a basket, she’s eager to explore to find the best new place to nap.  She loves to chomp on strings and chase mouse toys around.  She is used to hearing a dog bark but haven’t had much interaction with other animals yet, she is not chatty and her foster mom thinks they could get used to other pets.   She will require 2 more rounds of shots the weekend of 3/1 and 3/23 (paperwork and details will be provided to adopters, and there is no charge for taking the kittens in for these final visits). If you’re interested in adopting one, or both, please fill out the application at PAWS or reach out to me with questions.
