About Ms. Gordita Grande

If you love to laugh, you'll love Gordita! This sassy little lady might be tiny, but she's got one of the biggest personalities at PAWS. Gordita came in to the shelter obese and barely able to run, but now she can roll around, run through the adoption center, and sometimes plays fetch! She was diagnosed by our vets as having Cushings disease (develops when their body overproduces the steroid hormone, cortisol), but she doesn't let it slow her down at all. She takes pills every day to keep her stable, and is looking for an adopter who can keep up with her medication and continue to help her on her weight loss journey. Because Gordita is choosy about her animal friends, she'll do best in an adult household as the only animal. In exchange she'll repay you in hilarious antics, tons of personality, and adorable pig-like snorts every time she sniffs things! Age: ~6-8 years Weight: Around 15 pounds Reason for surrender to shelter: Found as stray Animal ID#: A39404466  Breed: Chihuahua mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label) Current location: 1810 Grant Avenue (Dog meets are by appointment for approved adopters only.) If you are interested in meeting Gordita, please email adoptions@phillypaws.org for an application.  If you have questions, please email the above address or contact our adoption staff at 215-545-9600, ext. 69 or 70._____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  You will never feel lonely with Amelia in your home! She is looking for someone to follow around for the rest of her years. Amelia is an easy addition to most any home; she is happy to just BE. She is happy to be with YOU, she is happy to be around other pets, and she is perfectly happy napping the day away in solitude. As a small yet older lady, she holds her own. At the dog park, she silently demands respect from even the biggest dogs. She enjoys making the rounds and greeting all humans and canines alike. She keeps up with her 2-year-old foster sister on her daily walks and occasionally even nudges her along to keep moving and stop sniffing so much! She has no trouble finding her way upstairs but does need some help getting back down them. Amelia is housebroken now that she's on a basic bathroom schedule. She may need a refresher once in a new home but she catches on quick! Amelia doesn’t do much jumping anymore, so she spends most of her time low to the ground in any available dog bed, whether they are meant for her or not. She'd be happy to be your lap buddy on the couch or bed but will need a lift. She hops willingly into to your arms, ready to go wherever you are going. She loves soft foods and treats that she can munch on her with her limited teeth. She doesn’t know any fancy tricks, but a yummy treat can motivate her to learn. She likes to supervise her foster mom in the kitchen while cooking and make drop in visits to her yoga mat and give little licks of encouragement. It’s unclear how much Amelia can see or hear us, but it will be apparent how much love she has to give when those big ears pop up and those big brown eyes finally realize you are home!   Age: 10 years &#226&#128&#139How I came to PAWS: Stray Animal ID#: A40444703 Weight: Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.   Angelica's certainly got a cute, angelic little face. She'll need an adult-only home that's prepared to put her through socialization bootcamp, since she's still in her awkward teen months and isn't very confident around strangers at first. She needs lots of positive reinforcement and confidence building to enable her to come out of her shell and let her guard down a little more around new faces. Angelica could use the same basic manners and training all young pups need to become social, friendly, well-rounded adults!  Astro is a quiet and easy going fellow. He enjoys walks and discovering new scents, and likes to play with his toys from time to time. Overall Astro is not very demanding. He is mobile and loves cuddles but he is not one to constantly demand attention. He would be perfect with a family who can show him the love he deserves. He seems to have no issues with dogs and does well with cats.  His interactions are short and cordial. He seems to be somewhat curious when we pass one on the street but he loses interest quickly.  Babadook is a goofy boy who came to PAWS after wandering around on the streets. He loves to run and play with other cats and even dogs! He's an easygoing guy who won't ask for tons of your attention, but does love getting cheek and chin scratches, is always there for you if you need a cuddle buddy, and is never opposed to being picked up and carried around.  Babadook does have a history of seizures which means he needs to take a pill twice a day, but his foster says he's truly the easiest cat ever to medicate—he puts up no fuss whatsoever! Other than that, all he needs is bloodwork once or twice a year to make sure that he's healthy. As much as his foster parents adore him, Babadook would love to find his own forever home, preferably with other cats for him to run around and wrestle with! If you're looking to add another fun pet to your family, consider taking home this wonderful boy today!   You wouldn’t think that such a petite thing could have such a loud purr! That’s just the kind of cat Babe is —gentle, sweet, accepting. You can scoop her up in your arms and hold her like a little, er, babe. When you first meet her she can be shy, but if you give her some time to warm up, she'll reward you with sweet purrs and lots of head nuzzles! Because Babe prefers peaceful snuggles to lots of action, she'll do best in a home with kids ten and up who understand that she likes to take things slow. While she would probably prefer to be your only pet, she may be able to live with another gentle pet who will give her space.  Meet Chloe! She is considered special needs because she has a heart condition and other health issues. Chloe is one sweet little lady in search of a special forever home. This affectionate gal has a heart murmur and collapsed trachea syndrome, but does well on her medications, and her coughing is minimized when she is calm. Her favorite pastimes include walks, car rides, and being wherever her people are! Chloe gets along with cats and other dogs (especially if they're closer to her size), has a loving temperament, and is very friendly with everyone she meets. She'll thrive best in a mellow household with adults or older teens who can be sensitive to her medical needs and give her all the love she deserves! She would especially love a home where there are other animals or humans who are around a lot to keep her company. Location: Foster Care (All our dog meets are by appointment for approved adopters only.) Breed: Maltese mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label) Age: 6-10 years Weight: Under 15 pounds Reason for surrender to shelter: Chloe's owner had too many animals to take good care of them all.  Meet the Colonel! He's most famously known as a super sweet cuddle buddy that just wants to put his head on your lap. He’s great on walks and loves saying hi to everyone he meets on them. The Colonel is also a very smart boy who likes to figure out the secrets of the universe and conquer every puzzle feeder known to mankind.  Despite being so young, Colonel's a fairly low-key guy - a couple good long walks a day and some toys at home to keep his brain busy work just fine for him. Once he's had his fill of activities for the day, the Colonel likes to fall asleep for a nap by using his favorite humans as pillows. The Colonel has a significant heart murmur and an accompanying heart condition that he takes an easy daily medication to manage. He definitely does not let his condition get him down, though! He's as happy and cuddly as any young dog, and brings smiles wherever he goes. Colonel can join a home with kids as young as 14 who understand he has some limitations in how active he should be (although he'll make friends with kids of any age)! He's curious about other dogs and fairly respectful around them, and could live with a calm canine companion. He's learning about crate training and would love to continue in his new home, and would love a home with folks who are around a lot and/or have overlapping schedules between family members so he has people to keep him company. Adoption staff will be happy to discuss his needs in more detail before setting up a meet to adopt!  Apply to adopt at phillypaws.org Email adoptions@phillypaws.org for more information about me! Subvalvular aortic stenosis, also referred to as subaortic stenosis or SAS, is a common heart defect in dogs. In dogs with SAS, there is added tissue below the aortic valve (hence 'subaortic'). This abnormal tissue creates an obstruction ('stenosis' is the scientific term) that the heart has to overcome to pump blood to the body. This stenosis makes the heart work harder than normal. A heart murmur is created by blood being pumped across the stenosis into the aorta.' If you are interested in adopting Colonel, our staff will be happy to discuss his needs with you in detail. _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Hi, I’m Columbus but my foster moms call me Pluis! Pluis is Dutch for “fluff” and I am indeed a gorgeous 15 pound ball of fluff! I love spending time with my 4 foster mommies, but I am currently looking for my forever home. I am a super cuddler and will always accompany you on the couch or closest fuzzy blanket. While a couch potato at times, I also enjoy playing with my fabric ribbon. Sometimes I can be a little too playful and give you a little scratch or bite—but I promise it’s all in good fun. I do well with meeting new people and will happily cozy up to your friends to show off how cuddly I am. Currently, I am thriving as the only pet in the house, but I would also be happy living with some like-temperamented cats. One final thing about me is that I had a stroke of bad luck with an abscessed tooth which turned into a medical emergency. While I’m missing some teeth and my whiskers are still growing back, I am fully recovered but might require some medical attention in the future, though I’m neutered and have had all my shots!  Crabby Snax is a very affectionate adult cat who would love to spend the winter asleep on your chest! This smaller-framed guy was abandoned by a previous guardian in not-so-great shape. He is very grateful to be inside, well-fed and loved, and he lets you know it by running to the door to greet you and snuggling into your arms.   In his foster home, he has been content to sleep and cuddle, and hasn’t been a big player, though that might change when he gets into a home of his own!  He is great on car trips to the vet, and hasn’t shown any signs of aggression toward his foster mom’s resident cats and could live in a household with multiple cats or be purrfectly find taking up all of your attention! He’s a pretty quiet guy, though he does make little chirps when you bring him his dinner. He has strong food preferences, and thus far says a polite "no" to anything except chicken or turkey canned food (and pizza!), so his future adopter should be aware of his preferences.  Watch this animal's video:      Name: Crabby Snax Age: 4-6 years Reason for surrender: Abandoned at the Shelter Animal ID#: A39731776 Please email adoptions@phillypaws.org for more information about me, or my former foster parent at gmzoller@gmail.com!  Current location: Old City Adoption Center  _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  These two kitties would love to find a forever home that can take them together!   Girlie is a shorthair calico (we find more orange fur popping up all over her every day!) she is sweet, loving and caring. She often chirps and will follow you throughout the house. She is obsessed with hair ties and will generally carry one around as she follows. She’s a curious little thing, as cats generally are, but is sure to be extra careful. She’s always in the mood for a good cuddle and scratch under her chin. Her supper soft fur and precious personality makes that easy. She may be a bit shy initially, as she can get timid with new experiences, but as she learns more about what’s happening it won’t take long for her to be right up in the action.    Curry (aka shoulder cat) is a puff ball and loves to stretch out and nap on any comfy surface. His fluffy-ness makes him fun to pet, he'll snuggleall hours of the day, and if you pick him up, he'll be sure to climb on onto your shoulders and drape over you like a scarf. While he’s there hanging out (literally) you’ll notice he has a very prevalent PURR. And he does, about 90% of his day. He’ll purr when he’s sleeping, or eating, or playing, really any time and every time is a good time for Curry to purr. He will jump and chirp while he runs around with his sister. He also enjoys a good investigation at times, maybe under the covers, or when you go into the shower. Curry is an extremely chill cat, you can scoop him up at anytime, and he’ll just flop and let you snuggle.  Both of these kitties are two peas in a pod, they love each other and definitely show it. They take naps together, give each other baths, and explore together. They play and battle, and find new places to go throughout the house together. They also seem to be able to have a strong connection with their foster mamas, and will follow them wherever they go and keep them company as they work at their desks. Girly and Curry come when called, and are slowly learning the word “no”... but we're still working on that one.  Age: 4.5 months How I came to PAWS: found stray Animal ID#: A39770046 (Curry) & A39770061 (Girlie) &#226&#128&#139I am not at the shelter.  Dolly is a laid back girl who enjoys people and other polite dogs. She's an outdoorsy gal who enjoys long walks on a leash, and doesn't mind if you dress her up for the chilly weather! She likes to take a nice slow pace and enjoy just taking extra time to check out the world around her. She is house trained, but also has no issue using puppy pads as a back up, and if you've been gone for a while she always welcomes you back home! Dolly will need an adopter who has a good relationship with their vet and is comfortable handling senior care. She may occasionally need to go on medications to keep her liver levels stable in her bloodwork, but at this time she has a great quality of life. Dolly's a fairly easy-going kinda gal who wouldn't mind another low-key, calm dog in her life. She would also do just fine in an adult-only home as the only pup. Dolly's a funny little gal who loves army-crawling around and rolling over for belly rubs—she's got plenty of silly antics in her!   Hi, my name is Dr. Duffy! I am a laid back kind of gal who will quickly warm up to you with a little bit of time. I would love a calm and quiet home with older kids or just adults. I absolutely love head rubs! How to describe myself in one word... Soft? Yes. It goes beyond my soft orange and white fur. I’ve got a soft personality, too. I am a sweet, gentle girl—obviously, once someone’s pet, though I was found as a stray—and I will sit softly on your lap while you pet me. I really appreciate human attention. Tail-less? Not quite. I have a Manx-like stub that is pretty cute—and highly evolved. If people don’t need tails, why would I? Ready? Absolutely. I’m here at PAWS Northeast waiting for a kind person who wants a soft, small-tailed feline companion. Then I could easily find a word to describe both of us: Lucky!  Are you looking for a super sweet cat who is also low maintenance? Enchilada is your guy! Check out his video to see just how loving and cute he is!  Enchilada is a loving guy all rolled up in a wrap of affection, and covered with a sauce of shyness! He takes a few minutes to warm up, but once he does, he just loves a serving of cheek rubs with a side of shoulder scratches. All cheesiness aside, he is SO cute when he's asking for pets, and does somersaults while you're petting him from excitement for more! He even hops up to rub on your hand if he hasn't seen you in a while.  He likes other cats, but would also be happy as the only cat. He's getting the hang of kitty communication with the other cats in his foster home. He is very playful and enjoys chasing them in games of tag. His other favorite toys are little mice and fuzzy things he can play with on his own. He doesn't ask for much playtime from his people, but loves the automatic toys his foster has - just turn them on and continue about your business while he's endlessly entertained!  Since he's shy at first, he'd do best with a cat-experienced adopter who can give him time to settle in - including lots of slow blinks and soft reassurances while he's getting used to you.  Age: 1-2 years old How I Came to PAWS: Surrendered because his owners had too many animals Animal ID#: A39841440  Current location: Foster care (this pet is not at the shelter).  If you're looking for a guy who's as handsome as he is sweet, you definitely want to meet Ernest! This loving boy is happiest when he's snuggling on your lap and giving you kitty kisses. Although he pretends to be shy when you first meet him, it only takes a few chin scratches to make him your best friend. Ernest is a mellow cat who will play when there's a toy around, but he's mainly interested in relaxing and being affectionate with you. Ernest is looking for a very special home: he may need to wear belly band diapers due to occasional bladder issue with which we're trying to help him, but he does know to use the litter box. Jack enjoys playing with his siblings and idolizes his big and similarly fluffy foster brother, following him around the house.  (In Photo: Jack - blue collar, long hair Age: 3 Months How I came to PAWS: Found as a stray Animal ID#: A39836894-Foster &#226&#128&#139I am not at the shelter.  Meet Jack Jack, an exuberant bundle of energy! He is really sweet and enjoys being petted and once he's all tuckered out, will like to cuddle too. He gets along well with most other dogs, but we aren't sure about cats yet. He LOVES to play fetch and would benefit from games that challenge his brain and keep him guessing! Jack Jack would love an active home who can provide him lots of exercise and training. He was surrendered from his first home because he was destructive in the house when alone; he may have separation anxiety, or he may simply need lots more exercise every day. He would benefit from a doggy daycare if his owners aren't home most of the day.  Age: 1 year &#226&#128&#139How I came to PAWS: surrendered for being destructive  Animal ID#: A40582257  Weight: ~37 lbs Mixed breed: Labradoodle.  This is Jet and he's an awesome kitty! Jet is the alpha of his litter and was the easiest to socialize. He’s very energetic and playful, likes people, and gets along very well with other cats (his foster's adult cat gives him his seal of approval). Jet loves all kinds of toys and is very play motivated. When he gets sleepy he likes to come over and ask for cuddles. He’ll hang out with his human but he’s not clingy and will happily roam around and nap on his own as well. Jet would be happy in an active household with folks that can devote some time to playing with him to expend some of his energy. However, Jet, along with his littermates, isn’t a fan of loud noises. Jet tested negative for FIV and FeLV, is microchipped, has had his neuter surgery and will be up to date on all vaccinations.  From Jet's foster parent: Jet loves to play with his sister Opal! If you are thinking of adopting a pair of kittens they would make a great couple as they have very similar personalities, energy levels, and love to play and roughhouse with one another. It would be fantastic if they could be adopted together.  Age: 12 weeks How I came to PAWS: Found stray  Animal ID#: A39939898 &#226&#128&#139I am not at the shelter.  Kiss is the cuddly and sassy little baby of the family! BIGGEST attention seeker of them all!! The first one to run to the food, the first one to come to you for some cuddles, and the absolute cutest ball of sunshine. His name is Kiss (has a twin brother named Hershey) and we could not think of a better name for him based on his personality. If he wants something he WILL make it known with his endless adorable meows. Even if he makes a mess you can’t stay mad at him. He has the cutest baby face with some specks of brown that make him absolutely beautiful. Kiss also LOVES to explore. He’s our hunger monster who will do anything for food and is ALWAYS hungry and he’s also somehow always sleepy - even when he runs out to greet us at the door, his eyes will be close to shutting.  This is Kody! He's a handsome little guy who looks amazing in his recent haircut and doesn't mind playing dress up in honor of the holiday season. Kody came to PAWS in rough shape- skin so itchy and painful he couldn't stop chewing himself and crying, and now with some TLC and special food he's feeling much better! Kody has allergies, so he will need a special diet and medicine to stay happy and healthy. He will also need regular trips to the groomer to keep his 'do looking great, but he also doesn't mind a good brushing, and obviously all the pets you can supply! Kody doesn't mind other polite dogs, and could potentially live with older, teenaged kids.  from Lady's foster parent: "She has been so good and friendly. She’s so easygoing. Lady loves watching cars go by from her window seat and loves to play with toys, but her all-time favorite activity is napping. Not a jumper — hasn’t even dared to go on my bed or couch yet!" Lady's a gorgeous "lynx point" domestic shorthair that was found stray in West Philly! And now she's living it up in foster care while she awaits her forever home! She's generally healthy but will need an adopter with a careful eye to monitor her overall health. Lady is FeLV+, meaning she has a weaker immune system than some other cats. FeLV is contagious to other kitties, but it does no direct harm to them other than lessen their immunity to illness, meaning Lady's adopter must keep her inside in a low-stress environment, and be sure to take her in for regular vet check ups to make she's healthy inside and out. Lady could do just fine living as an only cat, or potentially with other FeLV+ kitties after a very slow, gradual introduction. For more information on her condition, please reach out to PAWS staff!  Meet Luke Skywalker! The sweetest cat with a hopeful story. He was living the perilous life of a stray in West Philadelphia, suffering from a severe kitty cold and painful toothaches. But luckily, he picked the right porch to take shelter on! His foster mom scooped him up and took him to City Cat Vets where he received the medical care he desperately needed and won the hearts of the benevolent staff with his handsome and youthful appearance. Once his health began to improve at home in foster care, Luke Skywalker became even more cuddly, affectionate, and talkative than ever before! Luke Skywalker is a good natured senior guy at approximately 10 years old, and is always looking dapper in his tuxedo. He enjoys chin scratches, day lounging, cuddling in bed, and a good chat. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. Luke would likely get along with children that are gentle and respect his space. He would thrive in an environment where he is the only pet and can have his people all to himself. Luke Skywalker has the perfect combination of an easy-going and lovey-dovey spirit. By bringing Luke Skywalker home, you would at long last be giving his story a happy ending: a warm and safe environment with a kind and loving person he can trust and love back. Please consider meeting him and welcoming this charming guy into your family. And thank you for saving a life!  Hey there, I'm Maltheal! I'm a young, handsome, slick black ball of soft and snuggly fluff. I may be a little shy at first but once I'm comfortable, I'm a total ball of mush and purrs. I'm known to start some serious cuddle puddles, too! I am curious and playful, as well as an excellent climber and explorer. I play well with others so I definitely would thrive with a fellow feline brother or sister. I've been around dogs too and while I don't thrive with super energetic ones, but if they're chill, so am I!    Mr. Nibbles is a sweet and rambunctious cat who would love an active home! He was taken in as a stray after befriending his foster parents on their porch in West Philly. He's not shy, loves to greet people at the front door, and is always looking for nuzzles and head scratches. He's super energetic, and would flourish in a home where people could give him regular opportunities for play and indoor exploration.    Mr. Nibbles (or 'Nibs') is a bit resistant to being picked up or held, but is friendly and loving in many other interactions. He does give literal (gentle) nibbles, especially when he hasn't had enough playtime, but in his foster home this behavior has diminished considerably. If you're looking for a loving and adventurous addition to your family who will constantly make you laugh with his silly antics, Nibs might be a great fit for you! Small yet mighty, Onyx was so small when he came to his foster home…the tinniest little floof of a kitten! However, Onxy has a fantastic appetite and started putting on lots of good weight as soon as he had access to all the food he wanted. Onyx LOVES mealtime! Usually a little reserved, when mealtime comes around he is first in line with bright eyes and tail a-wagging! He doesn’t seem to be an overeater however, he just gets very excited when that can opens up and food would be a good way to win him over. Although Onyx is very playful and energetic with his littermates, he’s a bit shy around new humans. Onyx will need a forever mom or dad who can be patient while he gets comfortable with his new human. Although shy at first, Onyx has warmed up and is a wonderful little kitten, he likes playing with his brother and sister but he also has a much more independent streak and happily explores and naps all on his own. He gets along with other adult cats, he actually is drawn to his foster dad’s adult cat and loves to follow him around and try to play with him. Onyx would do well in a calm household, while he likes to play, he’s not a fan of loud noises or lots of large humans running around. He doesn’t like to be held but he’ll sit in your lap, especially if you have a nice warm blanket. Onyx tested negative for FIV and FeLV, is microchipped, has had his neuter surgery and will be up to date on all vaccinations. Meet and greets can be scheduled with Onyx’s foster parent if you’d like to get a feel to see if Onyx is a good fit for you.  These two goofy furballs are ready to find a nice quiet forever home together!    When they're not playing their favorite games  (hide and seek or king of the hill), wrestling, or napping in a box together, they're giving their favorite human cuddles, dropping toys on their lap to play, or just being beyond cute because, well look at them. While Oscar (gray) and Ernie (orange) don't like big crowds of people and maybe shy the first time you meet them but they are quick to warm up and show off their lovable personalities. Overall they are pretty easy going and enjoy human attention (and big spoon you at night). Their perfect home would be a place where they can run around and get attention, but preferably with a family, small household, solo, etc.    Being the fluffballs they are, longhaired cats require a little more maintenance. That being said, Oscar and Ernie enjoy getting brushed or combed!  Oscar may grab the comb from you, roll on his back, and look like he's playing the harmonica while biting it. Not sure if that's cuter or how fluffy they get after being combed.  They are litterbox trained with no accidents, take kindly to nail trimmings and enjoy a scratching post which keeps them away from scratching the couch. They enjoy windows and I've had to adjust my curtains/shades but nothing extreme. They like to explore but are never out of hand. There is a big golden retriever and an older cat in their foster home, they live in separate parts of the house and have had interactions. Oscar hisses each time he sees the dog but Ernie seems like he could come to like an older or calm dog. Although I think they would be happiest without other pets.    Not only are they annoyingly cute,  they are also very well behaved kittens. Oscar and Ernie are looking for someone special to share their wonderful personalities with.  Age: 4 months How I came to PAWS: found stray Animal ID#:A39955365 (Oscar) & A39955378  (Ernie) &#226&#128&#139I am not at the shelter.  Meet Otis! Otis is a big lug of a mixed breed dog (perhaps American Bulldog or American Staffordshire) estimated to be 2-4 years old. At 80 lbs., he may look like a tough guy, but Otis is not tough at all!  Sweet Otis was wandering alone in Fairmount Park when he was discovered by a jogger and his dog. Otis was dirty, cold and eager for attention, and no owner could be located. He was clearly someone’s pet once, as Otis hasn’t had a single accident or been destructive. He is content to hang out in a spare bedroom, snoozing in his crate or tossing around a favorite toy while the humans are at work. He is fostered with two cranky senior canines and he would love to play with them, but they just tell him off and he runs away. During his behavior evaluation, Otis interacted and played well with dogs large and small, male and female. He loves to be near people, follows you to the shower and peeks his giant head around the curtain. Otis is a fan of food and toys, but has shown absolutely no possessiveness of either. He is tolerant of handling, and loves to be petted and played with by everyone. He greatly enjoys learning new things, going on walks, playing and getting plenty of love and attention. Otis would likely do well in a home with another friendly dog or as the one and only. He is friendly with everyone he meets, but a home without small or fragile people is recommended because he has a head like a bowling ball and the grace of a drunken elephant. If you are looking for a big, loving dog for fun and adventure...Otis is the guy for you.  Otter is an adorable and friendly cat. He is a “velcro cat” and will follow you anywhere for a little attention. He loves a belly rub and will always find a way to wriggle into your lap or arms. He has a very short attention span, though, and will quickly slip away only to come back in a minute for more pets. He is energetic in the late afternoon and loves to play with a wand or any chase-able toy, but by evening he will be snuggled up for a nap or trying to jump with you into bed for a warm nights sleep.  Otter is a very timid cat, and is easily spooked or scared, so it is best to be gentle and reassuring with him—then he will come right out of his shell! When he does get spooked, Otter will usually find the darkest smallest place to hide out in, so don’t be surprised if he wiggles his way under your couch or chair!  Otter does get excited and playful sometimes, and will pounce on your hand or arm. When he does, he is very gentle with his claws and teeth, so is fun to play back.  This is a sweet, beautiful and friendly cat who needs a home where he can explore and snuggle, play… and wriggle into all the dark cozy places he can find.  If you are looking for an affectionate, cat-friendly, belly rub-loving, floofy friend, then look no further! Parvati Patil is the gal for you! She is a young, medium-haired ball of love who is looking for a furever home she can call her own. ' Parvati is newly off the streets and is still getting used to the ins and outs of indoor life. She can he a bit shy and get overwhelmed by big spaces, but is easily won over with cheek rubs. She loves being around humans and other cats and likes to curl up at her foster mom's feet. She has a playful side but is still trying to figure out what toys she likes best. So far she seems to be drawn to toys that make noise and toys she can hunt. She is also quite chatty and will chirp at her human if she wants attention. She doesn't seem to like dogs but would probably do well in a home with children.  My name is Peanut and I am ready to steal your heart and move in with you! Even though I cant pay rent, I'm a loving roommate who makes up for it by providing cuddles and even allowing the occasional belly rub. Outside of snuggle time, I enjoy food, chasing laser toys, playing with squeaky mouse toys, more food, sunbathing, taking naps, and food. If I randomly start darting around the house, it's because I'm trying to protect you from dangers your mortal eyes cannot perceive - or maybe because you made a loud noise. I would be happiest as the only pet in the home so I have can your attention all to myself, and I'll be a good fit for someone who is fine with me coming to them for attention on my own terms. I like my foster dad, but he's a little too stingy with the treats, so I am ready to headbutt him goodbye and find my forever home. Please apply to adopt with PAWS and reach out to him so I can meet you! If it works out, maybe I'll be your forever cat (you're welcome in advance).  Hi! I am Phoebe, a former singer-songwriter and author of the smashing hit “Smelly Cat.” You might have heard it on that friendly human's show. I’ve decided to retire from the music industry and am now looking for a loving home where I can pursue my new passion: yoga! To be honest, I still sing a few notes every now and then, but my hit song reminds  me too much of my days at the shelter, so please don’t ask me to sing it – I am onto better things now. Wouldn’t you love to open your home and heart for a new gorgeous furry friend?! My foster parent says I am very kind and affectionate. That said, I may take a day or two to warm up to new humans and a new space, but once I settle in, I promise you lots of rubs and cuddles, and most of all — playtime! My favorite toy is the swatty feathery thingy, especially when it hides… I haven’t seen a laser in a while, but lights and reflections of all kinds get my attention. I should also say that I have a complicated relationship with food. I am not on a diet or anything but I could use some encouragement (from a human or maybe even another pet) while I  eat or I’ll just wait till everyone’s gone to bed for some late night snacking. Likes: playtime, watching out the window for birds and other moving things, taking naps under the couch. Dislikes: wet food, the sound of plastic bags, bubbles. Age: 1-2 years How I came to PAWS: My previous adopter did not like my singing Animal ID#: A36258212 Current location: Foster care (this cat is not at the shelter). His happiest moments, when he isn't busy making biscuits on every inch of fleece at home, is chasing his toys around the house, climbing as high as he can, and catching a breeze by the open windows.   Pinto is very active and would do best in home with other feline friends whom he could play with.  Meet Shaquille, a talented man who was found in the parking lot of PAWS' Grays Ferry clinic. Just like his namesake, he demonstrated impressive running and dodging skills, before going straight into the net. Nowadays, he's more of a retired athlete who spends his days lying in the windowsill of his foster home, though he still enjoys the occasional workout with his toys and scratching post.  Shaq is a bit of a shy boy who might run away and hide at first, but if you wait for him to come to you (and maybe offer some tuna) he will let you brush him and scratch his head endlessly.  He’s a pretty chill guy who would do best in a calm home with people (and even cats) who will be patient as he adjusts to his new surroundings. Shaquille has kidney disease and is considered a hospice case. We would love to find him a forever home that can provide him with the care and comfort he needs in the time he has left.  Sometimes an extra special cat comes along. That cat is Snapple. Personally, he's my favorite right now. Affectionate & trusting, there is a warmth to Snapple that is unique. Snapple was originally adopted a couple of years ago. His family loved him very much but their active lifestyle left him feeling stressed. When he returned to us, you could tell he was feeling sad. But getting to know him again has been such a reward.  He'll let you pet him until your arm gets tired. You can hear a soft purr when you scratch him behind the ears. He'll let you wipe his face when he gets those crusties in the corners of his eyes. And afterwards, he gives you a look like he is saying - thanks for taking care of that for me. Snapple would be fine with older kids and a home with less hustle and bustle. After a long day of work, taking an extra couple of minutes to spend with Snapple definitely ends the day on a high note with anticipation of seeing him again the next morning. This loving guy doesn't ask for much yet would provide so much to the lucky person who takes him home.   Called Spaghetti Bruce for his resemblance to a long skinny piece of pasta with a funny, big, meatball head, this fella made himself known as a hungry, dirty stray on the streets by yelling, purring and refusing to be ignored! No longer spaghetti-like, Bruce still absolutely loves his food and will holler and follow you to the ends of the earth if he thinks you have a treat. He's also very happy to hang out with his person, stretch out in a sunbeam, and purr non-stop. His favorite way to 'greet' people is to sniff their hand and won't hesitate to let you know when he wants a nice snout and top-of-the head scratch. While's he's a fully grown boy, he still has a kitten-like curiosity for exploring every nook and cranny and goes wild for his favorite bouncy wand toy. After so much time spent on the streets, Bruce needs to be the kitty king of his own castle, and would do best in a home where he gets all the food and attention! He does seem to get a little anxious around too much activity, and would prefer a calmer home without children. While we don't know anything about Bruce's past life, the vet estimates this orange tabby to be in the 6-8 year old range and he's FIV and FeLV negative.  Suwa is a 3.5 year old sweetheart. He was found as a stray in Philadelphia with a burn on his back- the vets think someone may have poured boiling water on this little guy. But Suwa is healing up very well! He still has a few vet checks ahead of him, but is ready for a family. Suwa loves to cuddle, especially at night. Even when he is playing alone, he loves to be in the same room as his people. Suwa also loves watching cars and birds out the window. Suwa is very vocal boy, with a non-traditional meow. If you love a gravely baritone, he’s the boy for you! He sometimes gives gentle love nips, and would probably be best in a home without young children or with experienced cat owners.  Whiskey is white and blue and is slightly smaller than his brother, Foxtrot. He is very curious and confident kitty who loves to explore, cuddle, and play with his brother (but he will let you know when he's in the mood for each of these). He loves stomach rubs and--if done with his playtime--is happy to be picked up and relax on his back. If you bring out an interesting toy, he will come running to play. He began using a litter box with no training at all. He is more inclined to quietly cuddle or lie in the sun, but will be more than happy to follow his brother's lead and sneak into a drawer or wrestle and play.  Whisper Shark, as her name may suggest, is equal parts quiet and sweet as she is a sharp and cunning huntress! Your toes may never be safe again under the blanket (you're gonna need a bigger bed)! She is a little shy and nervous and is still working on fully trusting humans, so she would do best in a quiet home with an experienced parent(s) that can help coax her out of her shell, but because of that she shouldn't live in a home with any children. In the meantime, she absolutely LOVES all cats and will make a wonderful companion to anybody looking for a friend to cuddle and play with their current furbaby, and should absolutely live with at least one other cat to feel at her most comfortable.  Meet Zapp Brannigan, a handsome little orange guy who likes lap time almost as much as he likes nap time. He likes other cats that can match his energy, and loves any and all toys - especially wand ones and laser pointers that can get him jumping and running! Zapp was found as a stray this past Spring and was sick for quite a while, until PAWS vets determined that allergies were prompting her perpetual illness. Zapp is much more stable now on a hypoallergenic diet, and his adopters will need to keep him on that strict diet to avoid relapse into illness again. Zapp's hobbies include doing pigeon impressions, soliciting head pats, and playing tag with the other resident and foster kitties in the home. He's very food motivated (so guard your human snacks!!), and toy motivated, so if you need him to do something for you just butter him up with those sweet, sweet bribes. Zapp especially loves forehead rubs, he tolerates kisses, and is a two-time Regional Head Bonk Champion- in his mind, at least. **This animal has additional medical needs that the foster would like to discuss before setting up a meet to adopt.** Age: 1 year Reason for surrender: Found as stray Animal ID#: A38288232 Current location: Foster care (this pet is not at the shelter). Please email my foster parent at angela@phillypaws.org for more information about me!  Please apply online by emailing  adoptions@phillypaws.org www.phillypaws.org_____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.
