About Kelso

In order to alleviate the need to bring an animal into the shelter environment, The Anti-Cruelty Society has developed the new Home-to-Home Shelter Bypass service to help people find new accommodations for their pets privately. THESE ANIMALS ARE NOT LOCATED IN ANY OF THE SOCIETY'S PHYSICAL SHELTER LOCATIONS. PLEASE REFER TO THE CONTACT INFORMATION IN THE PROFILE BELOW TO INQUIRE ABOUT ADOPTING.

Kelso is a sweet, affectionate, and very silly. He is very playful and loves attention from any human that will give him the time of day. He loves all his toys and makes it a priority to pick up each one at least once and fling it in the air (Squeaky toys are his favorite). He does fairly well with other dogs but can be a little timid when meeting a new dog. Kelso is currently being potty trained and is doing great with the exceptions of a few minor accidents. He has a lot of energy that needs to be burned off daily which means someone with a big gated backyard would be ideal for him. I would not recommend letting him off his leash unless it is in a secured area where he cannot escape. He does have very high anxiety when left alone for too long.

Kelso can be very shy at first with children and a little standoffish but he will slowly warm up to them. He has never shown any signs of aggression.

He is not currently taking any medication for an illness. However, his vet recommended that he takes Sentinel once every month to prevent him from fleas, heartworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms.

Currently, he is on a strict feeding schedule to maintain a healthy weight. He is fed once in the morning at 6AM and half a cup at 6PM. He is currently eating Simply Nourished (Lamb and Oatmeal Recipe). We do not allow any table food. Due to his anxiety, he is currently experiencing diarrhea so we are including pureed organic pumpkin for fiber.

He is in the process of being crate trained, He responds to sit command, and is highly motivated by treats. He still needs a little work meeting people he tends to jump in excitement but is gentle.

This decision does not come easy for us. We have gotten to know him and bond with him for the past week and we love him dearly, but our apartment isn't well suited for his high energy. His separation anxiety is something that we have never dealt with and we feel that he would be much happier with someone who is home with him majority of the time. He really is a special dog with a warm and loving personality and would be a great addition to anyone's family.
