Adopt Carly ***Courtesy Posting***

Female Coonhound

Meet Carly!  Carly is a 3 year 46 lb, Coonhound mix.  Carly  came to San Diego with over 150 other dogs from Louisiana to make room for the dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey. Being a hound, she is very curious about cats and should go to a cat free home.  Carly is house trained and a smart gal that learned how to use the doggy door in just a few days.  She is enjoying playing with her foster brother (a male Jack Russel Mix)- She tends to be an "alpha" with other female dogs around the same size, so she should be the only female dog of the house or live with a submissive female.  She should have lots of chew toys as she will occasionally pick up something she should not chew on & the hound in her will easily sniff out any food  left unattended -(she is a table or counter surfer).  She walks well on leash with a gentle leader &  is crate trained.  She enjoys the crate and will go there on her own for a nap. Carly is very sweet and enjoys cuddling and gives lots of kisses. She loves kids, but her play can be a little rough, so she would do best in a home without small children.   Carly is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccines.    Please go to Second Chance Dog Rescue's website at:  to complete an application to meet her.  Her adoption fee is $250.00 and helps the rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. ♥ *Carly will require a home visit prior to adoption.

Please go to our website, Click on pet adoptions and a drop down menu with our adoption application will be there. Complete and submit the application.

We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations. All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog.    You must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience.  To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an approved adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are (spayed/neutered), micro chipped and up to date on their vaccines.

We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a good fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog,  Pure-breeds adoption fee will vary.

Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. We have a three step process to adopt one of our dogs. After the home inspection is completed and if we feel their are any other concerns, the final decision will be made by our board of directors. Please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is placed with the new adoptive family in their home.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Rebecca at 619-851-1129 or Debbie at 619-283-1364.

Shelter Description

Four Paws Coonhound Rescue (FPCR) was started about 9 yrs ago by Rebecca Stevens. She'd recently found and adopted her beloved Gigi through Beagles and Buddies. When she realized how many coonhounds find themselves without a home, she decided to join a rare network of people who work to rescue and place coonhounds. Coonhounds are still pretty rare in Southern California, but FPCR places 50+ coonhounds per year. We are still dedicated to coonhound rescue, but our mission has evolved to include any dog or cat in need of a home. Four Paws Coonhound and Friends Rescue is a designated 501 (c) (3) (c) animal welfare organization. Our organization provides transportation, food, shelter, and support to our rescued dog and cat friends in need.

Shelter Driving Directions

All of our adoptable animals are in private foster homes and are seen by appointment only. Our regular working hours are Mon - Sat. 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. We are closed on Sundays. We do hold monthly adoption events at Petsmart in Santee from 11-2 pm on the 4th Saturday of each month, and also at Ark Antiques on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11-2 pm but the dates do vary depending on the schedule.

Areas Served

We are based in El Cajon, Ca. and work with the following cities or states...San Diego, Los Angeles, Arizona and Colorado.

Adoption Instructions

All of our potential adopters are required to start with filling out an adoption application, we then set up a meeting for that particular pet. We do recommend that they do a trial period to make sure that the animal and the family are perfect for each other. If all goes well then we will finalize the adoption. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. We also pay to register the microchip in the new owner's name. We do charge an adoption fee which will vary depending on breed & age. We also offer a Senior to Senior program for Seniors who would love to have an animal, but are on fixed incomes and cannot otherwise incur the costs of having an animal.
