This magically handsome mug belongs to Merlin the gray pittie! Merlin was found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to the animal control shelter. We can't believe no one came looking for this wonderful guy, but luckily Merlin caught the eye of a City of Elderly Love foster family who sprung him from the shelter. He's now on the hunt for the perfect forever home!
Because Merlin was feeling pretty crummy when he came into the shelter, suffering from pneumonia and was in poor physical condition, it was believed that he was an older adult dog but as he's recovered from his ordeal and received much needed veterinary care, it appears as though Merlin is only middle aged - 5 at most! Merlin loves meeting new people of all shapes, sizes and ages. He's very much a "people-dog" and loves to stay close to his human best friends. In fact, his favorite thing to do is snuggle with his foster family on the couch! Merlin is a very smart guy! He's learned sit, leave it, kisses, "go home", stay and drop it in no time! He also loves to go for walks and is great on the leash. He's also crate trained and housebroken! We can't say enough great things about this guy.
Merlin is currently living with another large dog who he LOVES to play with. His favorite game is "bitey face" (wrestling) and will pounce around in delight when he thinks its playtime and loves to go for walks in the neighborhood with her. Merlin would do well in a home with other friendly, playful dogs. Because Merlin is younger than we thought, it doesn't surprise us that he has great energy and sometimes even has some puppy-like tendencies like "mouthing" (not biting) his canine foster sister while playing and sometimes even your hand when he wants to play. He can sometimes be leash-reactive when he sees other dogs on walks because he wants to interact so badly. His foster family is helping him work through the behavior and act appropriately on walks. Merlin is also living with a cat and shows friendly interest in him.
Merlin is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is vaccinated, microchipped and will be neutered prior to going to his forever home. He is also heartworm and lymes disease negative.
