Rudy''s sweet personality is shining in foster care! He is fully house-trained, dog and cat friendly, and and loves to go on daily walks! He `supervises` in the kitchen and loves to sample any meals you are preparing. When he is not resting up for his next meal and walk, he enjoys a good scratch behind his ears and a fun game of tug with a stuffed toy.

Austin Animal Center
Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
Shelter Driving Directions
The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
Austin and unincorporated Travis County, but will happily adopt to qualified folks from other communities.
Our standard Adoption fee for healthy, younger pets is $75. Pets over 5 years old have no adoption fee. Adoption includes a microchip and collar & tags, all the vaccinations a pet is old enough to receive, and spay or neuter surgery.
Adopters must be at least 18 yrs old with a current photo ID. Pets already in the home should have a current rabies vaccination and we may need to confirm permission for adoption from the owner of the property where an adopter lives.
